“They stole my diamonds!” said the owner of Best’s Diamond Store to a local policeman. “I just called my insurance company (保险公司). They’re sending a man here to decide how much money to pay me for the stolen diamonds.” “Tell me what happened.” said the policeman.
“I went to the store alone.” Mr. Best began, “As soon as I opened the door, two men rushed in. The blond one had a gun. He looked at me angrily and told me to open the safe. I was scared, so I gave him my diamonds. Then they tied me to a chair. After they left, I tried hard to free myself from the ropes and called you.”
“What did the two men look like?” “One of them was thin and the other was fat. They wore masks over their whole heads with only little holes for their eyes and mouths.”
Just then the insurance man arrived. “Don’t worry.” the policeman said to him, “You don’t have to pay Mr. Best anything. He is lying about the robbers. He took the diamonds himself.”
1.According to Mr. Best, he might be about to ________ when the robbers came in.
A.start his business B.have dinner C.clean the diamonds D.call the policeman
2.Picture ________ is a “safe”.
A. B. C. D.
3.The policeman believed Mr. Best lied because he made a mistake about the robbers’ ________.
A.height B.build C.hair D.voice
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C
根据第二段“As soon as I opened the door, two men rushed in.” 故选A。
根据第二段“He looked at me angrily and told me to open the safe. I was scared, so I gave him my diamonds.”
根据第三段“They wore masks over their whole heads with only little holes for their eyes and mouths.”以及“The blond one had a gun.”
①It’s 5:30 a.m., and your phone rings. A policeman says someone broke into a store and took something expensive. They need you right away because witnesses (目击者) may be dishonest while the clues (线索) at the scene (现场) will always tell the truth. It is your job to study the whole scene for clues that will help catch the thief. You are a crime (犯罪) scene officer, and the game is on.
②Outside the store, you see a broken window, but there is no glass on the street. There are shoe-prints (鞋印), and marks left by the car tires (轮胎) which are seen as two direct clues around you.
③First, you look at the shoe-prints. They’re large, so you’re likely to look for a man. You take pictures of the shoe’s pattern. This can tell you the type of the shoes. You then check the space between the shoe-prints. You now know how long the person’s steps were. This gives you an idea of the height of the thief.
④Then, as you follow the shoe-prints over to the tire marks, the spaces between the steps get bigger. They lead to the passenger’s side of the car. Now you know the thief probably didn’t work alone. Again, you take pictures of the tire marks. They can help you find out the type of the car and the direction it went.
⑤The most important clues will come from a person’s body. You find some fingerprints near the broken window. Using a computer, you can match them with millions of others. You also find a hair at the scene. You keep it, because you know hair will show a person’s DNA.You can compare this with other people’s DNA.If you can match the hair with the fingerprint or the DNA, you will know who was in the store.
⑥Will you find the thief? You now have a lot of information, so it’s possible. For a crime scene officer, it’s all in a day’s work.
1.________ made a call at 5:30 a. m..
A.A policeman B.A passenger C.A thief D.A crime scene officer
2.According to paragraph 3, the crime scene officer CAN find information about ________.
①height ②build ③man/woman ④appearance ⑤personality
A.①② B.①③ C.②④ D.③⑤
3.The correct order to find the thief is that ________.
A.
B.
C.
D.
4.The structure of the passage is ________.
A. B.
C. D.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.B 4.A

故选A。
The word opera comes from the Latin word opus, meaning “work”. It is a type of musical show that brings together music, singing, dance, acting, set design (布景设计), costumes, make-up, and even hairdressing. As such, it’s a team effort. Besides, opera also needs an audience to watch the show. Because of this, opera has always mirrored the society of its time.
Opera has been around for over 400 years and its origins can be traced back to Florence, Italy, in the late 16th century. Italy’s strong economy during the Renaissance (文艺复兴) provided a lot of money and support for artistic creation. It is said that the first opera in history was Dafne, created by Jacopo Peri and performed in 1597. Since then, opera has grown and changed with different music styles.
In the late 1700s, opera entered the Classical Period Composers turned their attention to praising the beauty in real life, and the music returned to the true emotional expression. The 1800s were the age of Romanticism During this period, opera showed themes like love, freedom, and justice. By the 1900s, opera, like other arts, entered the modern period. New ways of composing appeared, and opera reached a wider audience through radio and television.

You are sitting in the cinema with popcorn in mouth when a scene flashes on the screen—the moment when the hero fights against the villain (反派)—and you doubt whether success is possible. Then, the hero wins and you realize you’ve been holding your breath all the time. Superhero movies come out every year. Avengers: Endgame was so popular that tickets for the first week were sold out quickly. Why do we never get tired of watching these movies?
Superhuman abilities, alien worlds, and strange situations are features of our favorite superhero (超级英雄) movies. Yet these characteristics are absent from our real life. The great difference between these movies and our daily life allows us to separate one from the other. When our real life becomes too hard for us to face, we can get away into the world of superheroes.
Superheroes are those who have superpowers and are brave enough to sacrifice (牺牲) themselves. This kind of courage is often translated on screen as superheroes using their abilities to protect humans. This is another reason why we love them. We are born to be attracted to people who protect the weaker ones.
In recent movies, superheroes with amazing abilities also experience very human moments like losing loved ones. As a result, we see part of ourselves in these characters and they help us face challenges like them.
The last reason why superhero movies are so popular today is money. These movies make a great deal of money. This win-win situation drives a lot of filmmakers to keep making films.
Over the past few years, superheroes have turned from comic-book characters to movie stars. They have become such a common part of popular culture that it seems we can’t live without them. You might eat your popcorn while watching the breath-stealing scenes again soon.

A.have popcorn in mouth B.expect to see the villain

2.In Paragraph 2, we want to enter the world of superheroes when we ________.
A.can protect the weaker ones B.cannot separate it from real life
C.want to get away from real life D.find strange situations in real life
3.How many reasons are there for people to love superhero movies?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
4.What does the writer think of the future of superhero movies?
A.People will get tired of the superhero movies soon.
B.Filmmakers may not make money from the movies.
C.Superhero movies will have to face new challenges.

What is TV to you? Some people say that TV is the cause of many social problems. TV watchers waste their time and get lazy. I know a lot of people who can’t seem to live without TV. As soon as they get home, they turn it on. Even if they have work to do, family to be with, or friends to see, they do it all while the TV is on. On the other hand, some people think TV shows are educational. And others see the TV as their best friend. So who is right?
There are many benefits of watching television. By watching international news, you are kept informed (有见识的) and up-to-date with breaking news in the world. Some TV shows and channels (频道) show educational programs that can help you learn more about the world. Travel shows teach you about different people, cultures, ideas, and places you might never encounter (偶然碰到) in real life. Watching some shows might give you new ideas and new information that you might never come across in your own lives. What’s more, television can help you feel less lonely. It can be a kind of friend if you are alone. Or, it can be a social experience if you watch it with family or friends.
Of course, many people say TV is a waste of time. According to them, watching television is not as good as doing other things like playing with friends, reading books, or learning new things. They also say watching too much TV is bad for your health. You may get fat. You may have trouble sleeping. You may have bad dreams, and your grades may go down. And when you watch a television show, you are not talking to your family or playing with your friends outside. Instead, you are sitting in a chair and staring at the television. It is no good.

When I was a little girl, my parents were busy working, so I was always staying with my grandmother. She was a fan of Qinqiang Opera and would often hum the opera while cooking dinner. The sound of her voice, rich and filled with feelings, attracted me a lot. I would follow her, standing on a small chair in the kitchen. My voice filled the rooms, even though I seldom understood the lyrics.
One day, my grandmother noticed my interest and decided to teach me the basic singing skills. She showed me how to project my voice, how to move my hands and eyes to express feelings. At first, I had a hard time keeping up, but with her patience and encouragement, I performed well gradually.
As I grew older, my grandmother introduced me to more skills about performing Qinqiang Opera, including facial expressions and costume designs. She also told me that the performer’s feelings built the character, so I learned to put them into my performances, making each character come alive on stage (舞台).
Years passed, and I became more confident in my abilities. I started performing at local events, where my grandmother would proudly watch. Her smile of support filled me with joy and energy.
Today, Qinqiang Opera is not just a hobby for me but a lifelong journey of learning and growth. It has taught me the importance of hard work, the power of expression, and the beauty of cultural tradition. Think about the last time you went to an art or history museum. Which pieces of artifacts (文物) stood out to you? Did you read the introduction next to them? Did it tell you where the artifacts were from and how the museums got them?
Today, many museums around the world own art and artifacts that were stolen or looted (掠夺) from their original countries during war or colonial rule. You may see ancient Chinese paintings shown in the British Museum, or sculptures from Africa that date back to the 19th century on display in the Louvre Museum. Many countries have asked European museums to repatriate the artifacts.
The debate over whether and how museums should give back artifacts to their original countries has been going on for many years. Those who suggest returning all foreign artifacts to their homes insist that it is morally (道义上) the right thing to do. Furthermore, the country owning the objects will receive an important part of their heritage back, and these artifacts will be given a chance to be truly valued in their homeland.
Yet there are different voices. Those against the return point out that some foreign artifacts were not stolen but bought a long time ago. Also, it is sometimes hard to identify (确认) the true owners of certain artifacts—should they be returned to the country, a group or an individual? There is also a view that culture is a shared treasure and the artifacts are in fact “cultural ambassadors (大使)” that improve understanding. They believe that while taking them away from their countries of origin was wrong, history is full of “good” and “bad” actors. Moreover, they feel that keeping the cultural objects in the current museums has kept millions of artifacts safe from damage.
On the matter of return, some governments have made the move. In 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron told officially that France would give back 26 looted treasures to the African state of Benin. “I cannot accept that a large part of cultural heritage from several African countries is in France,” said Macron. It’s said to be part of France’s long-promised plans to return artifacts taken from Africa during the colonial rule.
Museums all across Europe began reconsidering their previous policies on colonial treasures. In France, twenty-seven artifacts had been identified for return, but only one has been returned. Then, on October 6, 2020, France’s National Assembly officially passed a bill (法案) promising the return of these heritage artifacts, but didn’t fix a certain date. It seems that there is still a long way to go for the return of foreign heritage treasures.
1.The underlined word “repatriate” in paragraph 2 probably means______.
A.protect B.show C.return D.borrow
2.People who consider foreign artifacts as “cultural ambassadors” may agree that ______.
A.mistakes in history need correcting in time
B.heritage artifacts belong to all the human beings
C.artifacts will be better protected in their homeland
D.history museum tours will be popular in the future
3.What can we learn from the passage?
A.French museums refused to identify all the colonial treasures.
B.Policies and bills have no use in protecting foreign heritage treasures.
C.The treasures stolen or looted can hardly be back to their homeland soon.
D.Governments have the duty to keep foreign treasures in good protection.
4.By writing this passage, the writer wants to ______.
A.explain how and why many foreign treasures were stolen or looted
B.advise governments to take actions in returning foreign treasures
C.encourage us to take part in the debate over stolen or looted treasures
D.show different views and present situation on the return of treasures
根据第二段“Today, many museums around the world own art and artifacts that were stolen or looted (掠夺) from their original countries during war or colonial rule.”以及“Many countries have asked European museums to repatriate the artifacts.”
根据第四段“There is also a view that culture is a shared treasure and the artifacts are in fact ‘cultural ambassadors (大使)’ that improve understanding.”
根据最后一段“In France, twenty-seven artifacts had been identified for return, but only one has been returned. Then, on October 6, 2020, France’s National Assembly officially passed a bill (法案) promising the return of these heritage artifacts, but didn’t fix a certain date. It seems that there is still a long way to go for the return of foreign heritage treasures.”
根据第三段“The debate over whether and how museums should give back artifacts to their original countries has been going on for many years.”
At the 2007 Asian Winter Games in Changchun, Jilin Province, 17-year-old Xu Mengtao won a silver medal in freestyle skiing women’s aerials Eighteen years later, at the 2025 Games in Harbin, she turned that into gold and became China’s first snow sports grand slam (大满贯) winner.
“For a sportswoman who competes in aerials, it is tough to stay at the top of their game at this age,” Xu told China Daily.
Xu was born in 1990. She started freestyle skiing at 12. Her journey to the top wasn’t easy. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, she finished sixth. But that only made her work harder. She won a silver medal at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
In 2016, she hurt her knee badly. Doctors took out nearly 70 percent of the cartilage (半月板) in her left knee. “There were some moments when I thought about giving up,” Xu told CCTV News. “I already had a silver medal. 1.词句猜测题。根据“For a sportswoman who competes in aerials, it is tough to stay at the top of their game at this age,’ Xu told China Daily.”(“对于一位参加空中技巧比赛的女运动员来说,在这个年龄保持顶尖水平是很困难的,”徐梦桃对《中国日报》说。)可知,“tough”在此语境中表示“困难的、具有挑战性的”。故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据“After many injuries and challenges, she completed the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics with steel pins in her body…”可知选项D正确;根据“Doctors took out nearly 70 percent of the cartilage in her left knee.”可知选项A错误;根据“She started freestyle skiing at 12.”

You sit in front of the TV to “watch just one programme”. Or you open social media platform for a quick scroll (滚动) through short videos… Well, you know how the story ends—You may spend hours on useless information. Then your brain becomes lazy and slow.
There’s a word for it. That’s “brain rot” and it was chosen as Oxford’s Word of the Year for 2024. In fact, “brain rot” isn’t a new word. It first appeared in Henry David Thoreau’s book Walden more than a century ago. He thought that brain rot happened when people stopped being interested in learning new things or didn’t think deeply. From then on, “brain rot” was used.
In 2024, the use of “brain rot” increased by 230%. It shows people’s worry about social media scrolling. Today, you easily spend too much time on the screen. You’re fed a large amount of unimportant and unchallenging (无挑战性的) information according to what you’ve visited online. As a result, you hardly do things to boost your brain abilities. Over time, you may have brain rot.
Then, ________? Kids and teenagers’ brains are still growing. If they get too much screen time and have brain rot, they will have a lifetime of poorer thinking ability. “Kids are still learning how to focus, control their actions and manage their feelings,” says Leventhal, an expert in brain studies. “Brain rot might make it harder for them to learn these important skills.”
To avoid brain rot, you can start by controlling your screen time and connecting with people offline. Choose to read useful information when you use social media. Also, try to develop hobbies, like playing table tennis and painting. There is a huge world out of your screen! Be the master of your own mind!
1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By listing numbers. B.By giving examples.
C.By describing pictures. D.By asking questions.
2.Where did the term “brain rot” first appear?
A.In Oxford’s Word of the Year list. B.In a recent scientific report.
C.In Henry David Thoreau’s book Walden. D.In a popular social media app.
3.What does the underlined phrase “boost your brain abilities” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Study your brain. B.Calm your brain down.
C.Check your brain. D.Make your brain work better.
4.Which of the following can be put into ________ in Paragraph 4?
A.who is influenced most by brain rot B.why are kids crazy about the screen
C.how does brain rot happen in your daily life D.what should kids do to improve thinking abilities
5.What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce the history of “brain rot”. B.To share an experience of having brain rot.
C.To teach Oxford’s Word of the Year for 2024. D.To ask people to reduce meaningless screen time.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D 4.A 5.D
根据“You sit in front of the TV to ‘watch just one programme’. Or you open social media platform for a quick scroll (滚动) through short videos… Well, you know how the story ends—You may spend hours on useless information.”
根据“In fact, ‘brain rot’ isn’t a new word. It first appeared in Henry David Thoreau’s book Walden more than a century ago.”

Over time, you may have brain rot.”
根据“Kids and teenagers’ brains are still growing. If they get too much screen time and have brain rot, they will have a lifetime of poorer thinking ability.” 故选A。

Have you ever noticed that airplane seats are usually blue during your travel? Here’s why they’re often a dark shade of blue.
■Blue is calming.
Color psychology (心理学) plays an important role in designing the cloth for airplane seats. “The idea is to give airplanes a more comfortable feeling, with relaxing colors and restful designs,” explained a designer in Boeing Company People connect certain colors with certain feelings. Blue is a calming color that suggests peace and relaxation.
■It physically feels cooler.
It’s also on the cool end of the color wheel, and can physically make you feel cooler. In a study, 48 percent of people thought soda in a blue glass was more thirst-quenching (解渴的) than one served in glasses of other colors, probably because they connected blue with cold.
Likewise, warm colors such as red and orange can make people feel warmer. Although it’s unheard that red is used for airplane seats, feeling hot when you board an airplane is good for no one.
■Blue feels professional.
Airlines always choose blue in their seat design because it reflects a cool professionalism (专业性). Blue’s not too unusual and is one of the most common colors, showing a sense of stability (稳定). Another study found that people connected blue with ability. You’re putting your safety and life in the hands of the airline staff and the airplane itself. So ability is certainly important.
■ The right shade hides stains (污渍) well.
Dark blue seats are also practical (实用的). Imagine how many people sit on them every day. And how many food pieces, drinks, and who-know-what-else get spilled on them? Darker shades are better at hiding stains and don’t show their wear (磨损) as easily.
1.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Blue is an exciting color.
B.Blue is a symbol of change.
C.Different colors bring different feelings.
D.Color psychology is not used in designing.
2.What do airlines hope to show by using blue in their seat design?
A.They can provide a faster travel.
B.They know a lot about psychology.
C.They can make sure the safety of passengers.
D.They are more creative than their competitors.
3.Why are blue seats more practical?
A.Because blue seats cost less.
B.Because blue cloth feels more comfortable.
C.Because blue seats look clean and new for longer.
D.Because blue cloth doesn’t let water through easily.
4.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.Foods and safety. B.Common sense of life.
C.Sports in everyday life. D.Humans and animals.
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.C 4.B

根据最后一段“Darker shades are better at hiding stains and don’t show their wear as easily.”
For young people who grow up in villages, a job in the city sounds good. But Ning Fenfang, 34, left the big city to be a farmer.
In 2017, she left her job in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and went back to her hometown of Cili County in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. At that time, much of the farmland there was deserted. Seeing this, Ning decided to be a farmer. She started with growing rice and oilseed rape (油菜) in 2020. She rented the land and hired villagers to work it.
Ning now farms more than 66.7 hectares of land. More than 300 housewives have worked part-time on her land, each making more than 10,000 yuan per year.
“It’s never easy,” said Ning. At first, many people didn’t understand her decision. Farming is often seen as an “unsuitable” job for both the post-90s generation and women in general. Also, she lacked enough farming knowledge. However, Ning loved farming.
“When you’re tired, you can stop and rest and do what you want to do. Every day, you can embrace nature, which is the poetry and far afield (诗和远方) that many people hope for,” Ning told the People’s Courts News and Communication Agency.
Ning has tried to turn farming into a “fashionable” job. Rather than depending on farmers, she advises mechanized (机械化) farming, which means using high-tech machines. She also plans to provide children living in cities with a chance to experience farming.
Ning feels responsible for farmers. Recently she has suggested that the agricultural insurance (农业保险) plans should include greenhouses, as freezing rain hit her hometown and caused losses to farmers in the winter of 2023.
1.Why did Ning decide to become a farmer?
A.To make money. B.To live a quiet life. C.To realize her dream. D.To make use of the deserted farmland.
2.How did people feel about Ning’s decision at first?
A.Happy. B.Puzzled. C.Surprised. D.Worried.
3.What does the underlined word “lacked” in Paragraph 4 mean?
4.What can we learn from Ning’s words in Paragraph 5?
A.Farming brings her great pleasure. B.It's tiring to take up farming.
C.She needs to take a rest. D.Many people hope to be farmers.
5.What is Ning like according to the last two paragraphs?
A.Friendly and humorous. B.Creative and responsible. C.Strict and hard-working. D.Brave and careful.
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.C 4.A 5.B

根据“When you’re tired, you can stop and rest and do what you want to do. Every day, you can embrace nature, which is the poetry and far afield that many people hope for”可知,她认为务农能让人拥抱自然,实现很多人向往的“诗和远方”,体现出务农给她带来了极大的乐趣。故选A。

Matthew Henson was an American explorer (探险家). He was a member of the group who are thought to have been the first people to ever reach the North Pole (北极点). At the time, lots of people only spoke about the group’s leader, Robert Peary. It wasn’t until many years later that people also celebrated Matthew’s success.
Matthew Henson was born on 8th August 1866. He started working on a ship named “Katie Hines” when he was 12 years old. Matthew travelled to many different countries on the ship and he learnt lots of new skills. Later, Matthew worked in a shop. An explorer called Robert Peary visited the shop and spoke to Matthew. He admired Matthew for what he had done and then offered him a job. Matthew and Robert explored jungles (丛林) and rainforests in Central America together. After this, Robert asked Matthew to explore the Arctic (北极地区) with him.
Matthew worked with the Inuit (因纽特人) who lived in the Arctic. They taught him how to build sleds and how to make igloos out of the snow. Matthew and Robert wanted to be the first people to reach the North Pole. They failed seven times before trying for a final time. The Arctic is not an easy place to explore and the team faced many challenges, such as the freezing cold weather and breakable ice.
On 6th April 1909, Matthew and five other people made it to what they thought was the North Pole. The five others were Robert Peary and four Inuit men. Matthew said that he was walking at the front of the team, so he thought that he was the first person to ever reach the North Pole.

A. B.
C. D.

With the rapid development of technology, opera is trying to use it to create richer and different kinds of artistic experiences. It opens up exciting new possibilities for both artists and audiences.

C.Superhero movies will have to face new challenges.

As soon as they get home, they turn it on. Even if they have work to do, family to be with, or friends to see, they do it all while the TV is on. On the other hand, some people think TV shows are educational. And others see the TV as their best friend. So who is right?

Every time I step onto the stage, I am reminded of my grandmother’s love and guidance, and I am thankful for the chance to carry on her legacy (遗产) through the art of Qinqiang Opera.

C.The treasures stolen or looted can hardly be back to their homeland soon.
D.Governments have the duty to keep foreign treasures in good protection.

To avoid brain rot, you can start by controlling your screen time and connecting with people offline. Choose to read useful information when you use social media.

A.Blue is an exciting color.
B.Blue is a symbol of change.
C.Different colors bring different feelings.
D.Color psychology is not used in designing.
