Global Impact of Green Public Transport Adoption
As of 2025, several countries have made significant steps in adopting and advancing green public transport systems and technological advancements. This change is reshaping urban mobility and contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions (排放) worldwide.
Country Performance on Various Transport
This table provides a comprehensive overview of how these countries perform in various aspects of green transport.
Key statistics highlighting the progress in green public transport:
·In Europe, electric bus registrations saw a remarkable 53%growth in 2023,with 6,354 units registered across EU27 countries plus Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland.
·Over 42% of city buses in Europe were zero-emission (battery electric and hydrogen) in 2023, a dramatic increase from just 15% in 2020.
·According to initial estimates, the EU’s share of renewable energy used for transport increased from under 2% in 2005 to 8.7% in 2022.
·Electric car registrations in Europe accounted for 21.6% of total new car registrations in 2022.
·The European Green Deal has set an ambitious target of achieving a 90% reduction in transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
·Nearly 50.000 electric buses were sold globally in 2023, representing 3%of total bus sales and bringing the global storage to approximately 635,000 units.
·China continues to dominate the market, accounting for around 60% of global electric bus sales in 2023, although this is a decrease from previous years. These figures emphasize the rapid adoption of green public transport solutions, particularly in developed regions. However, challenges remain in increasing these initiatives globally, especially in developing countries where the demand for passenger transport is expected to increase by up to 79% between 2019 and 2050.
The change to green public transport is not just about reducing emissions; it’s also improving air quality and public health. The shift to electric and other clean technologies is becoming increasingly crucial, with transport-related air pollution causing approximately £771.6 billion in health damages annually.

Before I bought the bike in 2016, I resisted and reasoned. I was in my fifties and therefore too old to start something new and potentially dangerous. I couldn’t stop wondering: Would my body handle this new activity? Would I spend hundreds of dollars, only to have the thing sit in the parking lot, laughing at me every time I walked past, until eventually being cleared away? Would I be safe on the roads? And would it be any fun on my own, or just some childhood imaginations?
But then I read an interview with Cadel Evans — Australia’s only Tour de France winner — about his annual charity bike ride. He said his mother aged 60 still rode in the 65km race along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, and there was no turning back. I headed to the bike shop, with my husband coming along to be the voice of reason. Among various bikes, my preference went to a blue cruise-style (巡航款) BMX, which felt right the first time I sat on it.
It didn’t fit in the back of the car, so I rode it home. With a fair amount of fear I quickly got on to a back street and was home in about 15 minutes, my heart pounding. I rode again the next day to meet a friend for coffee, a 15-minute ride each way. A few days later I rode for 40 minutes around a nearby lake, along a shared pathway.
When travelling around on my bike, I notice things that I never have before, like a colorful flower on the side of the road. I haven’t joined a club, and haven’t purchased cycling clothes, but my weekly rides have become my rewarding moment in time when I feel like a kid again. It makes me feel carefree and strong. As I ride along the local wetland’s bike pathway, I’m smiling for no particular reason, almost like flying.
4.Why did the author resist buying a bike at first?
A.She disliked outdoor activities. B.She worried about her age and safety.
C.She couldn’t afford the cost of a bike. D.She feared being laughed at by her husband.
5.What inspired the author to decide to buy the bike?
A.A good friend’s recommendation. B.The low price of the blue BMX bike.
C.An encouraging example of an older rider.D.The need to take part in a charity bike ride.
6.How did the author feel during her first ride home?
A.Regretful and anxious. B.Comfortable but tired.
C.Confident and excited. D.Nervous but successful.
7.What does cycling now mean to the author?
A.A way to maintain her figure. B.A social activity to meet friends.
C.A childhood dream finally realized. D.A source of joy and personal freedom.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Eating a little less of certain meat can do a lot of good
A way of cutting down on the amount of meat consumption is gaining popularity. ____8____. They acknowledge the challenges of giving up meat entirely, but still limit meat products where possible. If this sounds good to you, here are several simple things you can try.
Eat more plants
_____9_____. Animal products often take the place of fresh fruits and vegetables, leading to an increased risk of absence in nutrients from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A more plant-based diet can help lower the risk of health problems including heart disease, colon (结肠) cancer, and obesity.
Choose better meat
The type of meat you buy matters. Grass-fed and grass-finished meat options tend to be the more sustainable options. 10 . For example, Brazil— one of the world’s largest beef exporters— clears vast amounts of rain forest to raise cattle. As a result, a steak from that country can have more than ten times the climate impact of U.S.-raised beef. 11
Food products like sausages are made through many industrial steps and are heavily packaged in plastic. And, themselves, they’re not very good for your health. But there’s more. A report reviewed just how environmentally damaging these convenient, low-cost, and typically low-nutrient foods are.
Look for local produce
Getting food locally is a great way to support your local farmers and the local economy. But it can be difficult to source everything locally, so experts say that when you’re trying to shop more sustainably, you should pay attention to which products require air transport. Some items like berries and green beans can have a carbon footprint 50 times greater than food that travels by boat. 12 .
A.Source sustainable seafood
B.Avoid highly processed meat
C.It is advised that you try frozen versions instead
D.Paying attention to where your meat originates is also important
E.Animals used for their meat should be raised in a sustainable way
F.The other side of eating less meat is eating more whole-plant foods
G.Compared with vegetarians, more people take a more flexible approach
