He Jie, a well-known marathon runner from Ningxia, is a great example of how sticking to your goals and loving what you do can make dreams come true. Born in a small village in 1998, he has got through countless hard times to become one of China’s top athletes, and his story keeps inspiring people all over the country.
When He Jie was 15, he took part in a 5,000-meter race at a sports meeting. During the race, another runner stepped off his shoe, but he refused to give up. He ran the last 10 laps with no shoes on and surprisingly won the silver medal. This experience built his strong and never-give-up spirit.
