B (天津市五区县重点校2025届高三上学期l1月期中考试英语试卷)When I was a kid,a tree grew in front of my home.At the age of 10,I was just tall enough to reach its lowest branch and lift myself into its embrace.I wasn't the only climber. Sometimes two or three of my friends would join me in the sycamore(无花果树),or in the maple down the street.Climbing trees allowed us to enter another world. In fact,it was a world with in a world:We took our imaginations with us into those heights, which by turns were a fortress,a pirate ship,a spaceship,or a mountain castle. In my small Maine town there are some lovely maples, lindens, and oaks.Their branches spread wide, and they are strong enough for people to climb. But I have not yet seen a climber. Perhaps computer games have replaced tree climbing,or maybe the activity went the way of monkey bars((攀爬架),which came to be viewed as too risky and have largely disappeared from playgrounds. It is a sad loss.I have always believed that, since low-hanging branches provide no benefit to the tree, they must be meant for the child.Robert Frost understood this when he wrote: When I see birches bend to left and right,I like to think some boy's been swinging(摇摆,摆动) them.My only disagreement with Frost is his idea that tree climbing is an undertaking only for boys. Both boys and girls have what it takes to make a joyful ascent. The campus of the university where I teach is lovingly landscaped with all sorts of trees. During a recent walk,I grabbed a branch and a moment later I was sitting on it.Then the memories came flooding back:The old friends, the long view of my neighborhood, and finally, the reluctance to return to earth when the parental call to supper came. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't hear the student calling to me from below. He asked what I was doing.】didn't waste time on explanations.“Come on up,”I said.“The air's fine. But he only laughed, and waved me off.He didn't know what he was missing. 24.What did the author and his friends benefit from climbing trees? A.They were inspired to become astronauts. B.They escaped the heavy burden of learning. C.They became more flexible like monkeys. D.They had greatly expanded their imagination. 25.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3? A.Explain the reasons for kids'not climbing trees. B.Describe the poor economy situation in Maine. C.Expect monkey bars to be removed from playgrounds. D.Analyze the good of computer games. 26.What does Robert's poem prove? A.Only boys like to swing the branches of birches. B.The low-hanging branches are for children to play with. C.The low-hanging branches are trees'important parts. D.Climbing trees can be replaced by computer games. 27.What does the underlined word in the 4th paragraph probably mean? His interest in diversifying his skills grew after he stumbled upon a short video of traditional Chinese-styled dance on YouTube."I saw it as an art that combines tradition and modernity, which was mostly the reason why I liked it"says Filippi. Ever since,he has been closely following Chinese dance performers and watching numerous videos to learn more about the traditional style that he admires."I prefer the traditional style because of its light movements. It also reflects my personality with elegance,"he adds.Filippi's chance came when he was invited to perform for a Chinese New Year celebration in the central Italian city of Florence. He has since fully committed himself to the art form, learning several pieces and putting his newfound passion into practice. "The biggest difference that I found (compared to other disciplines)is the change of mood and emotional expressions among dances,"says Filippi, adding that he needed to shift from the dynamic moves of hip-hop to the graceful and fluid movements of Chinese dance. D (山东大学附中高三开学摸底测试)According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels installed (has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space, and though more and more people accept the concept of solar energy, few like large solar panels to be installed near them. Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible. So they haven't given much thought to what they put under them.Often, they'll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil."Solar projects need to be good neighbors,"says Jordan Macknick, the head of the innovative Site Preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment. In SPIRE project. They need to be protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy. In SPIRE is investigating practical approaches to "low- impact"solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. One of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is providing habitat for pollinators(传粉昆虫). Habitat loss, pesticide use,and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator populations over the past couple of decades, which has damaged the U.S agricultural economy. Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens, businesses,schools,cities-and now there are guidelines for solar farms. Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction."These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have available impact on everything that's going on in the landscape,"says Macknick. 32.What do solar developers often pay little attention to? A.The rising cost of building solar farms. B.The decline in the demand for solar energy. C.The quick installation of cheap solar panels. D.The passive influence of installing solar panels. 33.What does In SPIRE intend to do? A.Make solar projects land-friendly. B.Find new waves of controlling weeds. C.Improve the productivity of local farms. D.Reduce the use of solar energy in rural areas. 34.Why have over 28 states passed laws in the U.S. A.To restrict business development. B.To protect pollinators. C.To stop climate change. D.To increase the supply of energy. 35.Which of the following is the most appropriate title for the text? A.In SPIRE:To Leave or to Stay. B.Solar Energy:Hope for the Future. C.Solar Farms:A New Development. D.Pollinators:A Leader in Agriculture. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Boost your Memory (2024年湖北省9月联考)When trying to memorize new material,it's easy to assume that the more work you put in,the better you will perform.36 Just turn down the lights, sit back, and enjoy10-15 minutes of quiet rest, and you'll find that your memory is far better than if you had attempted to use that moment more productively. Although it's known that we should pace our studies, new research suggests that we should aim for"minimal distraction"during these breaks.37 You really need to give your brain the chance for a complete recharge with no distraction. The memory-boosting benefits of undisturbed rest were documented in 1900.In one experiment, the researcher first asked the participants to learn a list of syllables.Following a short period, half the group was immediately given a second list to learn, while the rest were given a six-minute break before continuing.38 The participants given the break remembered nearly 50 percent, compared to an average of 28 percent for the other group. In the early 2000s,two other researchers led several follow-up studies. In healthy participants, they have found that short periods of rest can also improve our memory of places. More crucially, this advantage stays a week after the original learning task and it seems to benefit young and old people alike.39 The exact mechanism is still unknown. It is now accepted that once memories are initially encoded they pass through a period of consolidation (that bond them in long-term storage. 40 But now in the age of information,it seems that our brains do need a short break at times to function better. A.Our memory is easily distracted by new information. B.This was once thought to happen primarily during sleep. C.We tend to avoid activities contradictory to memory tasks. D.Yet doing nothing occasionally may be exactly what you need. E.So don't check your emails or surf the web on your smartphone. F.When tested one hour later, both groups showed strikingly different patterns of recall. G.They have also found similar benefits for people in the earlier stages of Alzheimer's disease. 第三部分语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 (2024届江苏省高三检测卷)Dr Max is a thoughtful and devoted expert.I couldn't agree more with Dr Max's 41 that the empathy (shown by a doctor is the key in a patient's evaluation of the 42 received. Even though we were only staying overnight,Meg had brought six books-all about fairies ()After we unpacked,Aunt Lily invited us to pick some flowers. As we followed her through the forest,Meg held my hand tightly. But once we reached the sunlit grassland, she let go."Butterflies!"whispered Meg.She screamed with delight when one flew near her. Maybe I had nothing to worry about,I thought.I still remembered when I was here last summer,I found some amazing insects, like fireflies (and walking sticks which I'd never seen in the city. "Fairies are magical.See these beautiful flowers they grow!"she kept telling absolutely everything she knew about fairies.I was glad that if she kept it up until bedtime, then maybe she'd fall right to sleep. Meg did keep chatting, right through supper. Then the sun began to set."Does it get really dark out here at night?"she asked. Her eyes were fixed on the window. "Sure, but we've got plenty of lights inside,"said Aunt Lily. She leaned over and gave Meg a warm smile. But I could tell she was still worried."I could read to you. I hadn't even finished a page when her bottom lip started shaking slightly."Mike, she said, her eyes starting to fill."I want to go home."I quickly searched through her book for something to keep her from crying. The book fell open to a page that was dog-eared from use,a page that was obviously one of Meg's favorites. The text read:"Among the trees deep in the forest, the lights of fairies gleam (闪烁).”Aha!How could I forget those“tiny fairies'”out there? 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右: 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 "Meg,there's something outside I want to show you,"I whispered. W:Well,Bill,I have no previous experience,so I'm not sure how to prepare.I'm worried.A classmate's going to run ten kilometers. M:Yes.Some people like to practice on the track or in the gym the day before.I think that's dangerous. W:Well,I'm planning to stay in on Saturday, give my legs a break and prepare mentally. M:Good idea.Staying off your feet and being energetic are what it should be all about. (Text 8) M:Is there anything else that concerns you,Mrs.Ozawa? M:Let me see.Mom said she got a call from our grandpa this morning, because something had come up at his house. She didn't have time to cook breakfast.Besides, she wanted us to do housework W:No problem. The summer vacation started yesterday,so you don't have to deal with school work.As for me,I don't need to go to my flower shop, because it is being decorated and won't reopen until next week. Therefore,we're both free today. M:OK.Let's share the housework now.I'll mop the floor and take out the garbage.I leave the laundry and window cleaning to you. W:OK.You've been having back pain lately,so I'll also take care of mopping the floor. What about grocery shopping? M:We can walk to the nearby grocery store when we're done. W:It is closed these days,so Mom has to drive to the far market. But she drove the car to our Grandpa's house today. M:It's simple.Let's take the bus. W:Good idea. (Text 10) W:Handing power tools over to young students could result in some disastrous situations. But if those tools are combined with effective supervision and teaching, the students can learn valuable new skills and might even find a new career path. One such program,in Washington,D.C.,aims to teach woodworking and finished carpentry skills to teens and young adults. It includes a woodshop, completely housed inside a truck, that acts as a kind of "classroom on wheels".The Mobile Woodshop program was started by the nonprofit Zenith Community Arts Foundation.Margery Goldberg,Zenith's director, said the goal of the woodshop is "to get people jobs".Joe Largess is a teacher at the woodshop. He said much of the class centers on teaching students "soft skills".These are skills that are desirable in all jobs, such as teamwork, having a strong work ethic, being able to follow instructions and arriving to work on time.Ryan is a student at the mobile woodshop. Before entering the class,he had some experience working with wood and tools."I wanted to give myself a chance to get better at it.That's why I started the class,"Ryan said.He added that he saw another benefit to learning woodworking:"You can sell some of this stuff and make money from it.” great honor to have the opportunity to share with you my opinion on time management. No one can deny the fact that managing your time effectively is of critical significance, which can minimize your stress, boost your performance and promote your self- confidence.Such being the case, how can you achieve this goal?Firstly, what you need to do is to plan ahead, thinking about upcoming events and making a to-do list.Additionally, getting well organized is a must. Most importantly, you must learn to prioritize all your tasks, focus on the goals and stick to them.To bring my presentation to a conclusion, let me quote what Lu Xun said,"Time is the water in sponge. If you are willing to squeeze, you will always get some.” Thank you! 第二节 "Meg,there's something outside I want to show you,"I whispered.Meg quickly covered her eyes with her hands..“Idon't want to look,”She sniffled.“Come to the window,OK?It's something you will like.I'm here. You'll be all right."I promised. When we were finally reached the window,I quietly switched off the lamp.A whisper of cool, damp air sifted through the screen of the open window.Outside, thick chunks of trees reached up into black clouds of leaves and fireflies hovered around like twinkling stars.Meg pressed her hands against the window, pushing herself away. But then she noticed them. Her stiffened arms relaxed. Tiny fairies,Mike!she said, pressing her forehead against the window,"Everywhere ! They weren't fairies,of course. But the winking lights really existed and were,in my opinion, better than magic.I wanted to tell Meg about these incredible insects that flashed in the dark, signaling to each other. Then I looked down into Meg's shining eyes, and I decided she could learn about fireflies some other time.Meg was so absorbed in the breath taking scene that she completely forgot her homesickness and soon fell asleep against my shoulder.I guessed it turned out that I could handle everything-with a little help from the magical fairies. 附:听力原文 (Text 1) M:You could easily lose five kilos if you joined the gym. W:What do you do there? M:An exercise routine.I run on the treadmill quite a lot,and I also lift weights. W:I wouldn't like that.I'd be worried about dropping them. (Text 2) M:What a wonderful piece of music! Is it played by your daughter Caroline? W:Yes.I take her to piano lessons on Friday and Saturday every week. M:Good for her! It's hard to stick to what you love. W:You bet.She will have an extra class every Sunday from next month on. M:Yeah,I thought it was pretty interesting.I always wonder how they can make a video of birds flying like that. You get the impression that you're up there flying with them. (Text 6) M:Where is my meal?I've been waiting for my meal for more than half an hour, but I've still had nothing to eat.I'm very hungry! W:I'm very sorry. The restaurant is full and we are short-handed today. M:I understand. But please tell me when my food will be ready. W:Wait a moment, please.I'll go to the kitchen and ask the cook to hurry up. (Text 7) M:I love living and studying in China. But I miss my home country sometimes. W:I can imagine.I've visited other countries like England and Japan, but I've never lived outside of China.I don't know about Denmark, though.Could you tell me about the culture? M:Well,it's not very big. There aren't huge cities like here in Shanghai, but some people say our society has one of the best qualities of life in the world. W:Wow,that's wonderful! M:But actually,I prefer the food and exciting lifestyle here. W:Interesting. You must miss your friends and family back home, though. M:Oh,very much. And my favorite thing about Danish cities is that everyone rides bicycles. (Text 8) W:Jack, what an unbelievable performance! You've made yourself, your family, and your country very proud. M:Thanks so much. You know this is my first Olympics,so winning this race feels like a dream right now. W:I can imagine. We've watched Canada win medals in boxing and swimming.I can't believe that you've brought a gold medal back to Canada for this race. M:Well,I had a heated competition from an amazing group of runners.I want to congratulate them as well for a fantastic effort-all of us performed well. W:That's kind of you.Jack, you're being called to receive the medal now.Do you have any last words for the viewers back home? M:To all the kids, you must discover your skills and believe in yourself if you are to succeed! And thanks to my coach,I wish you could be here now! (Text 9) W:This is getting me really angry. M:What's wrong,Carly? W:Well,I've added the two chemicals and poured in the liquid-and look. M:What?I can't see anything. W:Exactly. The experiment is supposed to produce a purple gas but nothing is happening. If I can't get it to work,I'll fail the test. M:Who's your teacher? W:Mr Railton. M:Oh,he teaches us as well. He's OK.Why don't you ask him what you're doing wrong? W:He's out for lunch. M:Hmm,that is a problem. Our class hasn't done this experiment,so I can't really help. W:Oh well. Thanks anyway. M:Let's have a look at your textbook.I'll see if I can figure it out. W:Here it is.Page 320. M:OK,so you've got this chemical and you've got that chemical. W:Correct.See,I told you I was right. M:And here is the liquid, which needs to be heated to boiling point. W:Ah...Does it say that? M:Yes,look. W:Oh,I see.I think you might have found where I was going wrong. M:Let me help you do it again. (Text 10) Thank you for allowing me to speak at this meeting.I'm Sara, and I have two kids who attend this school.Younus is in 4th grade, and his sister Amira is in the year below. My kids love learning. However, over the past couple of years,I've noticed them both becoming very stressed about their education. The reason for this is clear-homework.Each year, they're given more and more. And now, they simply have too much, between two to three hours every night. This leaves them with very little time to relax,to play or to be with family. I do believe in the value of homework for older students, but we can't prove that homework is helpful for kids of primary school age.In fact,in Finland, younger children are given almost no homework, yet 93%of kids graduate from high school, compared to 78%in Canada, and only 75%here in the US. So,I'm here to suggest an experiment. For one term, let's forget homework, and encourage kids to play, follow their own interests and be with family after school.I don't believe school performance will be affected. In fact,I think this will result in kids that are happier, more focused and more excited to learn. I'm interested to hear everybody's thoughts.
