阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Ice cream may be universally appealing, but many countries have their own version of ice cream that’s often not called ice cream. Let’s learn about these tasty “ice creams” around the world and awaken your inner child!
● Raspado, Mexico
Raspados are the Mexican version of American snow cones (冰沙). But while typical snow cones are made using overly sweet syrup (糖浆), raspados have real fruits or fresh fruit juices. The sweet and cold treat is everywhere throughout Mexico and usually sold at street carts. You won’t find Mexicans eating their raspados in cones (圆锥形蛋卷) since they’re only served in cups.
● Kakigori, Japan
It may be made of ice, but kakigori, the Japanese version of ice cream, is definitely not a snow cone. It melts in your mouth just like a creamy ice cream. Chefs make kakigori by shaving ice from ice blocks until it builds into a soft pile. Kakigori is almost always served in a bowl, and it’s not unusual to find sweet shops offering toppings as the final touch.
● Gelato, Italy
Pizza and pasta aside, gelato is considered to be Italy’s food symbol. In fact, visiting the local gelateria is a way of life for Italians. Italian gelato is lower in fat than traditional ice cream and is made with whole milk, eggs, sugar and flavoring.
● Dondurma, Turkey
An ice cream that doesn’t melt? Yes, that’s exactly what dondurma or Turkish ice cream is. Dondurma has an elastic texture (弹性口感) and buying dondurma is like watching a performance. The men who sell it wear traditional Turkish clothes, twist and turn the ice cream until it lands into the cone to be served.
21. What is a feature of Raspado?
A. It is served with syrups.
B. It is usually served in cones.
C. It is rarely sold at street carts.
D. It contains real fruits or fruit juices.
22. Which type of “ice cream” is greatly fitted into the social life of local people?
A. Raspado. B. Kakigori.
C. Gelato. D. Dondurma.
23. What is special about Dondurma?
A. The low fat level it has. B. The interesting way it’s served.
C. Its popularity among people. D. Its unusual flavor combinations.
B
At the age of 75, the Italian female traveler Vienna, inspired by Marco Polo as her spiritual model, measured the vast expanse of China’s land with her own feet, painting a vivid picture of cultural exchanges across time and space.
Her heart was filled with a thirst for the unknown world and a longing for Chinese culture. This feeling came from an encounter with a Beijing-based international student over two decades ago, and it got stronger upon reading The Travels of Marco Polo. The Ancient Silk Road described in the book served as a link between the East and the West, connecting Vienna’s dreams with reality.
In her pursuit of Marco Polo’s footsteps, Vienna encountered loneliness, tiredness, and even life-threatening situations. An encounter with wild dogs in a foreign land left her injured, forcing her to stop her journey for the time being. However, these hardships did not threaten her. Instead, they served as precious trials that made her value each encounter with different cultures even more.
While tracing Marco Polo’s footsteps, Vienna also researched deeply into Chinese culture. She visited various Confucius Institutes, engaging in exchanges and learning with local students, therefore gaining a deep understanding of the virtues of “benevolence” and “harmony” contained in Confucianism. To Vienna, both Marco Polo and Confucius were great figures who promoted world peace and exchange. Marco Polo promoted cultural exchange and integration between the East and the West through trade and observation, while Confucius advocated harmony among people with his deep thoughts. Despite being separated by a thousand years, they resonated (产生共鸣) amazingly in Vienna’s journey.
24. What increased Vienna’s desire for Chinese culture?
A. Her childhood dream. B. A student from Beijing.
C. The book The Travels of Marco Polo. D. Interest in the outside world.
25. Why did Vienna have to stop her journey temporarily?
A. She felt extremely lonely and tired.
B. She wanted to learn more about local cultures first.
C. She was discouraged by the hardships.
D. She got hurt in an encounter with wild dogs.
26. What do Marco Polo and Confucius have in common according to Vienna?
A. They both advocated peace and exchange.
B. They both encouraged travel and adventure.
C. They both wrote famous books about China.
D. They both promoted harmony through trade.
27. Which of the following best describes Vienna?
A. Ambitious and determined. B. Considerate and modest.
C. Creative and honest. D. Responsible and generous.
C
CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere keep rising, and the world’s oceans are flooded with plastics, putting marine environments and ecosystems at risk. The key global problems are often interconnected, and typically, the solution to one problem brings about another problem. But what if we could solve several problems at the same time?
It’s almost too good to be true, but a new cutting-edge invention promises to do just that. Researchers at the University of Copenhagen have developed a method, where one man’s trash really does become another man’s “treasure”, when PET plastic becomes the main ingredient in efficient CO2 capture (捕获).
“The beauty of this method is that we solve a problem without creating a new one. By turning waste into a raw material that can actively reduce greenhouse gases, we make an environmental issue part of the solution to the climate crisis,” says Margarita Poderyte from the University of Copenhagen.
The solution is a potential win-win on a global scale, where plastic waste not only does not end up in nature but also becomes an active player in climate improvement. The new technology can transform PET plastic waste into a new material the researchers have named BAETA, which can absorb CO2 out of the atmosphere so efficiently that it easily compares with existing carbon capture technologies.
The BAETA material’s powder-like structure and “upgraded” surface enable it to very effectively combine and capture CO2. Once it reaches the maximum volume, CO2 can be released through a heating process, allowing the CO2 to be concentrated, collected and stored or changed into a sustainable resource. Compared with existing technologies, this process is relatively mild and highly suitable for industrial-scale applications.
28. What can we know about the global environmental problems?
A. Their solutions often end in failure.
B. Ocean pollution is the toughest one to deal with.
C. They are rooted in increasing CO2 concentrations.
D. They may create new challenges when one is solved.
29. What can be concluded about the new method mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. It produces another trash.
B. It is based on existing technologies.
C. It sounds unrealistic but works well.
D. It badly needs further improvement.
30. What does the text imply about BAETA?
A. It can transform plastic waste into valuable materials.
B. It is not as efficient as existing CO2 capture technologies.
C. It allows the captured CO2 to be released for certain purposes.
D. It involves a process too difficult for industrial-scale applications.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A. More Efforts to Reduce Plastic Waste
B. Turning Plastic Waste into Climate Savers
C. The Harm of CO2 to Marine Ecosystems
D. Inventing New Materials for Daily Use
D
It was obvious with Pinocchio. Every time he told a lie his nose grew longer. But for the rest of us in real life, the result of telling lies isn’t so evident. Is it possible that there are unseen consequences to dishonesty?
Since lies are carried by speech, and speech originates in the brain, is it possible that telling lies results in changes in the brain that are not outwardly observable? Psychologists Julia Lee and Ashley Hardin wanted to find out.
Drs. Lee and Hardin set up a series of studies to explore the question of dishonesty, with 250 pairs of individuals. In each pair, one was assigned the task of either lying or telling the truth. The other member of the pair was instructed to evaluate the emotions of the lying or truth-telling partner. Each of the partners was then assigned the task of evaluating the emotions of the other partner.
The research found that subjects who were asked to be dishonest were significantly worse at detecting the emotional state of their partners than those who told the truth. Surprisingly, the small, seemingly unimportant moments of dishonesty clouded an individual’s ability to read the emotions of another individual later on.
To determine how well the participants could read other people’s emotions, the researchers then had the subjects watch a series of short video clips. In the clips, actors expressed a wide range of emotions. The participants were then asked to identify the emotional state of the actors. Once again, the researchers consistently found that those who likely did lie, ended up performing worse on the test of empathetic (感同身受的) accuracy than those who didn’t lie.
We live in a world where businesses, social life, and personal relationships depend on the ability of individuals to interact well with other people. And to interact with them we often need to be able to determine their emotions. As most of us learned in kindergarten: it’s important to tell the truth.
32. What is the aim of the studies?
A. To teach people how to detect lies. B. To explain the Pinocchio Effect.
C. To test if lying causes brain changes. D. To explore the motive for lying.
33. What does the underlined word “clouded” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Weakened. B. Monitored.
C. Cleared. D. Improved.
34. What were the participants mainly asked to do in the studies?
A. To tell a lie. B. To record body languages.
C. To rate others’ performances. D. To identify others’ emotions.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The reasons for telling lies. B. The application of the study.
C. The complexity of social interaction. D. The necessity of being honest.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
With everything going on in the world, it’s no wonder so many of us are struggling to sleep. 36 And it’s hard to fall back asleep again. However, simple steps before bed can help.
Test your pillow. If you bought your pillow in 2023, it’s already old. The National Sleep Foundation suggests replacing your pillow every one to two years. ‘ 37 “When your brain is sending pain signals, it can’t send sleep signals,” says Dr Michael J Breus, a clinical psychologist and sleep specialist.
Get an hour of sunlight each day. Morning sunlight is important for good sleep. “It stops producing melatonin (褪黑素) in your brain, which helps relieve the sleepy morning feeling,” Breus says. It also sets a mental timer to produce melatonin, the so-called sleep hormone, that evening. Aim for 15 to 30 minutes of direct light first and two 15-minute outdoor breaks during the day. 38
Skip salty snacks before bed. In a Japanese study, researchers followed 321 patients with high-salt diets and sleep issues for 12 weeks. 39 And those who consumed more salt woke up more often to go to the bathroom.

Arguments can activate your nervous system, which disturbs sleep. Some research even suggest that going to bed with anger may make you bad-tempered the next morning.

Last month, our community launched a volunteer program to build and manage a shared garden. Posters were displayed at the gate, calling for residents to join hands in planting flowers, growing vegetables, and maintaining the environment. The idea of turning an abandoned piece of land into a green garden immediately appealed to me. I phoned my two close friends, Mike and Lily, who lived in the same neighborhood, and invited them to participate. To my delight, both agreed, excited to contribute to something meaningful for our community.
On the first Saturday morning, the three of us arrived at the empty land chosen for the garden. Several community workers were already there, preparing the soil and arranging tools. We were soon divided into groups, each responsible for different tasks. Mike, who had a gift for design, volunteered to plan the layout of the flower beds. Lily and I began planting seeds, watering, and labeling each plant carefully. The sun was very hot, and sweat ran down our faces, yet the laughter around us made every minute worthwhile. Some neighbors passing by offered bottles of water and even joined us, saying how wonderful it was to see young people caring for the neighborhood. By the end of the day, the once-bare ground was covered with rows of green shoots, silently promising a bright future.
As weeks went by, the garden began to take shape. The air was filled with the smell of fresh earth and blooming flowers. Elderly neighbors stopped by to watch, children came to water the plants after school, and families enjoyed evening walks along the paths we had created. However, as summer approached, the enthusiasm started to grow weaker. Some volunteers got busy, and weeds began to grow quickly. Without regular care, several plants dried up in the heat. Seeing the yellow leaves and dry soil, I couldn’t help feeling disappointed and worried. Something had to be done if we wanted the garden to survive.

第四部分 写作
第一节
Dear Jim,
I was thrilled to hear about your plan to organize a “Chinese and Western Cultural Exchange” event. As your friend and a fellow student at Hongxing High School, I’m more than happy to share my ideas with you.
Regarding the form, I propose a combination of lectures and workshops. As for the content, in the morning, experts can be invited to deliver lectures on the history and customs of both China and Western countries. In the afternoon, we could switch to interactive workshops. This way, participants can not only gain knowledge but also experience the cultures firsthand.
I believe this mix of learning and doing will make the event both educational and enjoyable. Looking forward to your success.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One afternoon, I gathered Mike and Lily to discuss how to manage the garden better. Everyone shared ideas seriously this time. Mike suggested removing weeds to keep the garden in good condition, while Lily proposed making a duty schedule so each volunteer would take turns watering and cleaning. I recommended inviting more residents to join, especially families with children, to keep the garden lively. After the discussion, we divided tasks and started to take action. Over the next few weeks, we repaired broken tools, cleared the weeds, and built a watering system together. Slowly, the garden began to recover its energy and beauty.
Months later, l walked through the garden again and was amazed by its beauty. Bright flowers were blooming beside rows of vegetables, and butterflies danced freely in the air. Children were laughing as they watered the plants, while elderly neighbors rested on benches, sharing stories under the trees. Mike was painting a signboard that read “Our Shared Garden”, and Lily was teaching a little girl how to plant seeds. Standing there, I felt proud and moved. The garden had survived because we never gave up—it had become not only a green space but also the beating heart of our community.

M: I agree. There’s a food festival taking place this weekend. We can go there together if you want. (5)

W: Sure, what’s it on?
M: Since you’re an exchange student, I was hoping to learn more about your culture.
W: Of course, I’d be happy to share. Is there a specific topic you’re looking at?
M: Yes. I’m looking at how different cultures give gifts. For example, in America, we give them on birthdays or other special occasions like Christmas, Mother’s Day, and so on.
W: It’s funny that you mention Christmas. In Russia, we focus on New Year’s Eve for gifts. (12) Some celebrate Christmas on January 7th, but it’s less common.
M: Oh, I didn’t know that.
W: Have you looked at Japanese culture yet?
M: No, do they have special traditions around gifts?
W: Yes. I spent three months traveling in East Asia before I started university. In Japan, people often give gifts that are packed carefully. The package design matters as much as the gift itself. (13)
M: Perfect. I’ll need to look into that more. Thanks for your help.
W: No problem.

M: Sort of. Mrs. Smith called to tell me she had to take your phone away from you.
W: But that’s because I had to reply to an important email.
M: Although that may be true, it’s still against school policies. (15) I also looked at your social media activity. Do you know how many times you post each day? (16)
W: Maybe five times? (16)
M: Double that number. (16)
W: No way!
M: I’ve gone back through the last month across all of your accounts.
W: I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was using it that much.
M: I know. Overuse of mobile phones is becoming a real problem, not just with children but with adults too. However, you can try to avoid this issue by focusing on your studies. (17)
W: I will. I promise.
M: At the same time, we’ll set a new family rule. Mom and I will keep your phone on weekdays. You can have it on Sunday mornings, but only for an hour.
Text 10 英国圣迈克尔山
I think everyone is on board, so we’ll head off shortly. Let me tell you a bit about where we’re heading today. We’re going to transport you to a place called St. Michael’s Mount, which is one of the most southern and western points of England. This historic site is home to an ancient castle that sits on top of a rocky hill that rises from the sea. (18) The bus will stop in the lovely small town of Marazion, where you can find food and gift shops. We will then need to wait for the sea to go back so that we can walk on the stones to the island. (19) According to our experience, the waiting time won’t be too long. When the sea comes in, the path disappears, and the only way to get to and from the island is by boat. Don’t worry! We have already booked a boat for you to come back on. Once you are there, you can tour the 800-year-old castle, which has several hidden rooms to discover, beautiful gardens to relax in, (20) and excellent views of the surrounding ocean. We will arrive in Marazion in an hour, so make yourselves comfortable.
