阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Parks are essential for cities, but some go beyond simple lawns and playgrounds. They tell stories of artistic vision, technological innovation, industrial history, and environmental recovery. The following four parks around the world are shining examples of such transformations.
Park Güell
Located in Barcelona, Park Güell is the artistic masterpiece of architect Antoni Gaudí. Initially planned as a housing complex, it is now a public park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It feels like stepping into a fairy tale, with its colorful sculptures, winding pathways, and organic forms that blend architecture into nature, offering breathtaking city views.
Duisburg North Landscape Park
This German park is a brilliant example of repurposing industrial heritage. Built on the site of a former iron and steel plant, the park did not erase its past. Instead, it transformed massive industrial structures into new facilities: a gas tank became a diving pool, and concrete storage bunkers were turned into climbing gardens. It demonstrates how ecological and recreational life can flourish in post-industrial landscapes.
Gardens by the Bay
Showcasing the vision of a “City in a Garden,” Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay is a model of future-oriented design. Its most famous features are the Supertree Grove, where tree-like structures perform environmental functions, and two large cooled conservatories that house plants from diverse climates. This park is a remarkable combination of cutting-edge technology, engineering, and gardening.
Freshkills Park
Freshkills Park in New York is undergoing one of the most remarkable transformations globally. Once the world’s largest landfill, it is being turned into a public park nearly three times the size of Central Park. Through advanced engineering and ecological restoration, this once-polluted site is becoming a vast habitat for wildlife and a symbol of sustainable renewal, proving that even severely damaged environments can be given a new life.
1. What was Park Güell originally intended to be?
A. A public garden. B. A residential community.
C. A modern art museum. D. A world heritage site.
2. Which park is a good example of futuristic design?
A. Park Güell. B. Freshkills Park.
C. Gardens by the Bay. D. Duisburg North Landscape Park.
3. What do Duisburg North Landscape Park and Freshkills Park have in common?
A. Location in the United States.
B. Famous architectural designers.
C. Preservation of industrial heritage.
D. Ecological restoration and renewal.

Recently, a zoo located in the deep mountains has become popular. There are no eye-catching signs, grand gates, or high-tech facilities. The only way to reach this zoo is a winding mountain road built by the zoo director himself. It is such a “rustic-style” zoo that even locals didn’t know about it but recently, it has become a hit online.
When you enter the zoo, what catches your eye are tidy animal enclosures and energetic animals. There are more than 20 species of national protected animals here, including Amur tigers, Bengal tigers, vultures and leopards. Each animal has its own name — such as “Xiong Da”, “Xiong Er”, “Da Kai” and “Xiao Kai”. The animals are cared for and cherished like children, and every detail here shows the love of their “guardians” behind them.
The director of this zoo is a 70-year-old man named Feng Yuanyong. He used to be an educator. After retiring, he came from Suzhou, Anhui Province to Kaili to help his younger brother run this zoo and he has stayed here for ten years. Over the decade, he has taken on multiple roles: zoo director, ticket seller, guide and animal feeder. He has handled all these jobs by himself.
Feng Yuanyong always adheres to the principle of “Animals First”: “No matter how poor we are, we always prioritize the animals’ food and water to ensure their health.” Sometimes, he even uses his own pension to cover the zoo’s expenses, such as animal feed and facility maintenance. In this era of prevalent consumerism, the “price persistence” of Kaili Zoo is particularly precious. Feng Yuanyong simply shared his original intention: “Making money is not my goal; being with the animals brings me joy.” Even though his hands are covered with old calluses and new wounds, he still feels happy here: “Happiness is a personal feeling; being content with oneself is happiness.”
Now this 70-year-old man’s persistence has finally been noticed. The city of Kaili has launched a series of environmental improvement measures, including repairing the road leading to the zoo, sending more sanitation workers for daily cleaning, and adding public toilets. Director Feng recently said that with everyone’s joint help, the zoo’s financial situation has improved. He has also hired back workers to take care of the animals together.
4. What is the main reason for the zoo’s becoming a hit?
A Its remote location and lack of publicity. B. Its magnificent gate and modern facilities.
C. Its country-style and well-cared-for animals. D. Its clean environment and a self-built mountain road.
5. What can be learnt about Feng Yuanyong?
A. He managed the Kaili Zoo alone after his retirement.
B. He named some zoo animals after cartoon characters.
C. He spent more than a decade adopting many animals.
D. He used his own money to support the zoo’s operation.
6. What is the work like according to Feng Yuanyong?
A. Enjoyable and fulfilling. B. Tiring and rewarding.
C. Challenging and valueless. D. Demanding and stressful.
7. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The improved conditions of the zoo. B. Feng’s appreciation for public attention.
C. The re-employment of workers in the zoo. D. The assistance provided by the local authorities.
C
When learning a foreign language, most people fall back on traditional methods: reading, writing, listening and repeating. But Brian Mathias’ research team found out that if you gesture with your arms while studying, you can remember the vocabulary better, even months later.
As Mathias and his colleagues describe in the Journal of Neuroscience, they had 22 German-speaking adults learn a total of 90 invented artificial words (such as “lamube” for “camera” and “atesi” for “thought”) over four days. While the test subjects first heard the new vocabulary, they were also shown a video of a person making a gesture that matched the meaning of the world. When the word was repeated, the subjects performed the gesture themselves.
Five months later, they were asked to translate the vocabulary they had learned into German. At the same time, they had equipment attached to their heads that sent weak magnetic pulses (磁脉冲) to their primary motor cortex — the brain area that controls arm movements. When these signals were active, the subjects found it harder to recall the words accompanied by gestures. When the equipment sent no distracting signals (but still appeared to the subjects to be active), they found it easier to remember the words. The researchers concluded that the motor cortex contributed to the translation of the vocabulary learned with gestures.
The effect did not occur when the test subjects were only presented with matching pictures instead of gestures when learning vocabulary. In contrast, children-unlike adults seem to benefit from pictures as much as gestures in the long run. In an experiment published in 2020, the Leipzig research group had young adults and eight-year-old children listen to new vocabulary for five days, sometimes paired with matching pictures or videos of gestures. After two months, the two methods still tied. But after six months, the adults benefited more from the gestures than the pictures, while the children were helped equally by both.
8. What can be learned about in paragraph 2?
A. The purpose of the test. B. The subjects of the test.
C. The process of the test. D. The outcome of the test.
9. What is the purpose of the experiment with magnetic pulses?
A. To prove magnetic pulses damage language memory.
B. To compare two different vocabulary memory results.
C. To emphasize the participants’ courage for the challenge.
D. To repeat the relationship between motor cortex and gesture-linked words.
10. What is the result of adult-child comparison experiment?
A Gestures are more effective than pictures for both age groups.
B. Adults and children benefit equally from gestures in the long term.
C. Pictures have a better effect than gestures for adults after two months.
D. Gestures and pictures are equally helpful for children after six months.
11. Which of the following is probably the best title for the passage?
A. How Gestures Give Your Word Memory a Hand
B. Why Children Learn Languages Better Than Adults
C. The Disadvantages of Traditional Language Learning
D. Magnetic Pulses: A New Tool for Memory Enhancement

Not setting homework can be impossible in certain situations. There are many arguments in favour of homework and most teachers would agree with many if not all of the following: homework is a perfect opportunity to go over calmly what was done with the teacher and rethink and develop that initial input; homework offers a moment for students to work as individuals and develop learner self-governance outside the classroom; students and parents expect homework to be set and to be corrected. Nevertheless, the drawbacks that homework may have are often overlooked. Examining the very term “homework” reveals two fundamental issues.
Firstly, the concept of “home” is problematic. Assignments are often completed anywhere but at home: on buses, at friends’ houses, or on school steps. More critically, all too often for it to be done effectively at home, homework requires the participation and involvement of other adults. When parents are unavailable, a child’s ability to complete work is limited. This creates an unsettling inequality: if homework is crucial for success, some students are at an automatic disadvantage.
Secondly, the nature of the “work” is frequently misunderstood. If the idea of home can be problematic, so too can the concept of work. Again, this will depend enormously on the context, but very often there is a lot of work put in. Pressured by other demands, students often treat homework as a task to be rushed through, not as meaningful practice. The primary goal becomes to keep the teacher at bay—to avoid criticism by presenting a completed assignment, regardless of the learning involved. This leads to a silent agreement where mere completion is often sufficient. The teacher sees a finished task, and the student meets the formal requirement, yet the actual educational value is frequently lost.
The ideal that students go home, think back to what they did with their teacher, use the great resources their books and the internet provide to revise and reflect, and put everything they have seen in class in place into action into practice does not often happen with some students. Instead, for many, this reflective process is replaced by a race to simply cross another item off the list, revealing a deep gap between the theory and reality of homework.
12. Which of the following is not the advantage of homework according to paragraph 1?
A. Establishing a closer teacher-student relationship.
B. Meeting the requirements of students and parents.
C. Reinforcing knowledge and skills learned in class.
D. Developing students’ ability to independent learning.
13. What does the phrase “keep the teacher at bay” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Seek assistance from the teacher.
B. Keep a distance from the teacher.
C. Impress the teacher with hard work.
D. Display assignments for the teacher.
14. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Teachers seldom place emphasis on the quality of homework.
B. Homework often fails to serve its intended purposes.
C. Parents rarely step away from their children’s homework.
D. Students always complete homework in other places than home.
15. What’s the author’s attitude towards the common practice of homework?
A. Favourable. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Indifferent.
第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In today’s digital world, constant notifications and endless scrolling have made it increasingly difficult to maintain focus. Managing screen time is not just a preference but a necessity. ___16___. Here are some practical tips to help you step back from screens and reclaim your attention.
___17___
Instead of having your phone within arm’s reach while working or studying, leave it in another room. You can also turn off all non-essential notifications to create a quieter, less interruptive space. This simple act reduces the urge to check it constantly, allowing you to dive deeper into your tasks.
Schedule Your Screen Time
___18___. For instance, you could decide to check social media for twenty minutes only after completing a chapter of revision. This transforms mindless browsing into a deliberate, time-bound reward, helping you stay on track and reinforce your self-control by making you the decision-maker, not your device.
Replace Screens with Real-World Activities
It is crucial to replace screen time with engaging offline activities. This could be reading a physical book, going for a walk in nature or dedicating time to a hands-on hobby like painting or playing an instrument. ___19___. They not only provide a break but also help your brain recharge in ways that passive screen consumption does not.
Use Tech with Purposes
It is not to eliminate technology, but to shift from passive consumption to active control — to be the master of your devices, not their slaves. ___20___. Before unlocking your phone or opening an app, pause for a second and ask yourself: “What is the purpose for this?” Is it for a specific task or is it just a mindless habit to fill a quiet moment? By consciously deciding when and how to use your devices, you cultivate a healthier relationship with technology, thus allowing you to harness its benefits without letting it control your attention and precious time.
A. This begins with cultivating awareness
B. Create a Distraction-Free Environment
C. Set the last hour before bed as screen-free
D. It may lead to a “superficial cognitive pattern”
E. Set specific times for checking emails or social media
F. Digital entertainment constantly breaks your concentration
G The key is to make offline activities as appealing as your digital ones

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I started my college life abroad, I wanted to be a successful student. I always sat in the front seat and kept my notebook neat and tidy. I was used to the old Chinese way of learning: listening quietly, writing notes carefully, and never talking when the teacher was speaking. I thought the quietest student showed the most respect.
But in my first class, I soon found things were different. My teacher, Professor Miller, asked us to question every idea and speak up often. "Your thoughts are as important as the old books," she said. Students talked fast and often interrupted each other. The teacher seemed happy with this. When she asked me a question, I just froze. I had spent the whole time getting a perfect answer ready in my mind, but when I raised my hand, the talk had gone to a totally new thing. After class, I asked my American classmate, David, for advice. He just laughed, “You look like you are waiting for a ticket to talk, Li. Just jump in!”
The next week, I tried to be stronger. I got even more ready for the class. But every time I stopped for a second to breathe, another person quickly started talking. The class talk felt less like a serious discussion and more like a fast game. I felt very sad, but I knew my quiet way was not wrong. I thought there must be a way to share my ideas that used my Chinese learning style but still met the class rules.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The Impact of Social Media on Teenage Relationships
Social media profoundly shapes teenage relationships. Positively, it bridges distances, letting teens connect globally and express themselves freely, strengthening bonds via instant interactions. However, it brings downsides: idealized online images spark comparison anxiety, text-based communication causes misinterpretation, and cyberbullying or superficial connections prevail.
To balance, teens should limit screen time, prioritize in-person interactions, and cultivate critical thinking to avoid idealization. Parents and schools can offer guidance on healthy usage, helping teens harness social media for meaningful relationships.

【答案】
Instead of trying to talk as fast as others, I chose to use my own way to help the class. I decided to listen carefully to everyone’s opinions and take detailed notes. When someone made an interesting point, I would write it down and think about it deeply. During the discussion, I waited for the right moment to share my thoughts. Instead of interrupting, I would raise my hand politely and wait to be called on. I found that by observing first, I could often add something meaningful that connected different ideas or asked thoughtful questions that helped the group think deeper.
To my surprise, my method worked very well and added something new to our discussions. Professor Miller noticed my approach and praised me for being a “thoughtful contributor.” She said my questions helped the class explore ideas more thoroughly. Other students started asking me for my notes and listening carefully when I spoke. David admitted that my way of thinking was different and valuable. I realized that being quiet and thoughtful didn’t mean being passive. My Chinese learning style of careful listening and deep thinking actually made me a better participant in American classroom discussions.
