第一空:根据答语“At the age of twelve”可知,这是过去的具体时间点,需用一般过去时,因此用“did; leave”。 leave是瞬间动词,不能与for短语连用,其对应的延续性表达为“be away from”,因此用“has been away from”。故选B。

A. Have; taken; will take B. Have; had; will have C. Did; take; took
【答案】A

has gone表示“去了某地(还未回来)”,has been表示“去过某地(已回来)”;“Why don’t you do sth.?” 第一空根据语境“不知道汤姆现在在哪里”,可知他还未回来,且where是地点副词,用has gone;第二空用固定句型“Why don’t you call him?”。故选A。

原句“Tom has never read”使用现在完成时(助动词为has),表示否定含义。
9. —Do you know when he ________ the project?
—I’ve no idea. When he ________ it, I’ ll send you a message.
A. finishes; will finish B. will finish; finishes C. will finish; will finish

Oona and Finn McCool
Long ago, on an island (岛) near Ireland, a giant (巨人) named Finn McCool lived with his clever wife Oona. Oona and Finn had a good life except for one problem. An unfriendly giant named Cuhullin lived across the river. Finn had never met this giant, but he feared Cuhullin nonetheless
One day, Cuhullin challenged Finn to a contest (竞赛) of strength (力量). Finn was a strong giant, but he knew that Cuhullin was stronger still, and Finn was worried. Oona, wanting to help her husband, thought of a plan.
On the day that Cuhullin was to arrive, Oona dressed Finn up like a baby and put him into a giant crib She also decorated (装点;装饰) an iron frying pan (铁煎锅) so that it looked like a frosted cake. Finn shook (发抖) with fear as he waited for his enemy (敌人).
When the giant Cuhullin arrived, Oona told him that Finn was not at home. Then she introduced him to the“baby” Finn. Cuhullin was understandably surprised at the size of the child and wondered how large Finn must be to have a baby that size. Oona asked Cuhullin to get her some water. When he started off to the river with a pail (桶), Oona explained, “Oh, Finn usually carries the house to the water.” Cuhullin did his best not to look surprised, but he was not very happy at the idea that Finn was so strong.
Finally, Oona provided Cuhullin with the cake. She gave him the frosted frying pan, and when he took a bite (一口), he nearly broke a tooth. “This is as hard as a rock,” said Cuhullin.
“Oh, that’s the way Finn likes it. Look, even the baby likes it that way,” she said, pointing to Finn in the crib. She had given Finn a real cake, and he ate it happily. Cuhullin, suddenly no longer wanting to meet Finn, started making excuses about needing to go home.
15. What will Cuhullin probably do next?
A. He will relax and wait for Finn.
B. He will leave so that he does not meet Finn.
C. He will ask for more cake.
16. How will Oona probably feel if Cuhullin leaves?
A. She will be afraid.
B. She will think that she is strong.
C. She will want to cheat Finn next.
17. What will Finn probably do if Cuhullin leaves?
A. He’ll keep pretending (假装) to be a baby.
B. He’ll run after Cuhullin.
C. He’ll ask for more cake.
18 Which of these is possible to happen in the future?
A. Cuhullin will challenge Oona to a contest of strength.
B. Cuhullin will avoid (避免) Finn and Oona.
C. Oona and Finn will eat more frosted pans.
19. What will Cuhullin think of Finn?

Cuhullin, suddenly no longer wanting to meet Finn, started making excuses about needing to go home.”

Look, even the baby likes it that way,’ she said, pointing to Finn in the crib.” 故选A。

Footprint (脚印) in the Snow
In 1951, Eric Shipton was climbing Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. He and his team were exploring (探险) when they saw a scary sight. They saw giant (巨大的) footprints in the snow. It looked as though huge bare (裸露的) feet had made them. Each footprint was about 13 inches (33 cm) long. He said later that it was not the first time he had seen huge footprints like these on Mount Everest.
Eric Shipton was a famous explorer (探险家). His pictures of the giant footprints created excitement all over the world. And, there was more to the story. A man named Sen Tensing was one of Shipton’s guides. Tensing said that he and others had once seen the creature (生物) that had made the prints. He said that it was a Yeti (雪人), or a wild man. This barefoot creature (生物) had reddish-brown fur (毛皮) on half of his body. The Yeti was more than five feet (1.52 m) tall. Shipton let someone ask Tensing about the event. Shipton said that he believed Tensing. The explorer also said that he was sure the footprints were not made by a bear or a mountain ape (类人猿).
Others were not so sure. Some thought that the huge footprints were made by a bear that lives in the mountains and often walks on two legs. But, Shipton and his men followed the tracks (足迹) for one mile (1.61 km). Would a bear have walked that far on two legs when it could have run on four? Others say that Tensing saw a mountain ape. But, mountain apes have five toes (脚趾), and these footprints had only four. Some scientists think that the footprints were made by a smaller animal. Then, the sun melted (使融化) them so that they looked bigger. Shipton said that the footprints were fresh. Could the sun have had time to melt them? Or, did the explorers really find the footprints of a strange, wild mountain man?

例文
Is a Training Class or Family Teacher Necessary?
More and more middle school students are going to all kinds of training classes or having family teachers at the weekend There are two different viewpoints about it.
Some people believe these extra lessons are necessary. They argue that studying with professional teachers is more effective than self-learning. Additionally, training classes help students strengthen their understanding of school subjects and gain extra knowledge. However, others disagree. They believe it may cause dependence. Moreover, teenagers need enough rest to stay healthy and focused. Another concern is that many training centers aim to make money instead of focusing on education quality.
In my opinion, choosing high-quality courses wisely is the key. While extra classes can be beneficial, they should not take up all free time. Students must balance study and relaxation.
