When I was a kid, my two brothers and I would stay with Grandparents for a week during summer vacation. We always looked forward to spending every moment with them, especially Grandpa, the “hero” in our eyes.
Grandpa became blind when he was 20 years old, but it never slowed down the strong-willed (坚强) man. He worked in a shop every day. Customers would give him money, and he would return the right change and give them exactly what they wanted. He had many friends who visited the shop just to talk to him, and at that time, I helped to hand customers their drinks and snacks. This made me feel grown-up.
He also cooked lunch and washed dishes while Grandma worked. As a boy, I would watch him move around the house from room to room as if he could see. I was so surprised about how he moved from cooking to washing the dishes, never making a mistake.
It seemed like every time I stayed with him, we would visit someone in the evening who was weak or very sick. Although he can’t see things, he never let it stop him from working and being kind to others. His love for people never ended.
During those weeks, he taught me many lessons that I still treasure today. They take me back to those days and remind me how special he was. I miss every moment I stayed with him. To this day, I still dislike hearing someone say, “I can’t do that,” because I knew a blind man who never said those words.

Every morning, a big riverside school in the forest of Borneo comes to life. The caretakers and teachers in the school are from a specialized team, and the students there are orangutans (猩猩) whose parents have gone missing, making it one of the most unusual schools in the world.
The orangutans aged from 2 to 8 years old are divided into five groups according to their skills. They are looked after by the team who feed the babies and teach the older ones to start feeding themselves. There are often problems in the beginning. For example, there was a lesson about how to break open a coconut to drink the milk inside. Several young orangutans couldn’t do that and they got very angry about the whole thing.
Of course, as in any social group, the orangutans have to learn to get on with each other. There are the usual arguments over food when one orangutan doesn’t get what he or she wants. However, with the care of the trainers, they gradually learn to accept each other.
In one of the lessons, the trainers teach young orangutans to climb trees. This is an important skill they need to learn. Some of the orangutans in particular were really scared. It took them a long time to get the courage to climb up and swing from a branch (树枝), but when they finally did it, they were so satisfied with themselves!
The goal of the “education system” is to train the orangutans to be able to live in the wild again and look after themselves. They won’t have to stay at school forever. After the older orangutans are set free into the forest, there is no more connection with the people from the school. They now have to live as wild orangutans again and be accepted by the other orangutans who are already there.
The day when they say goodbye is a difficult one. However, the trainers are happy that their job is done. They have successfully taught young orangutans how to live in the wild again—where they belong.
( )11. Where is the orangutan school?
A. In a forest. B. By a lake. C. In a zoo. D. In a laboratory.
( )12. What do orangutans learn to do in the school?
A. Fight to live. B. Be good with each other. C. Make useful tools. D. Feed babies on their own.
( )13. How did the young orangutans feel after learning to climb trees?
A. Surprised. B. Relaxed. C. Tired. D. Happy.
( )14. Why is the “education system” set up for orangutans?
A. To offer them an easy life. B. To train them to be independent.
C. To free them from the past. D. To keep them away from humans.
( )15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Special Forest Team B. Wildlife Schools in the World

第五节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题5分,满分10分)阅读短文,根据要求完成文后的题目.
If you live in Europe or America, you likely pick up a fork every day and give no thought to it. Using it probably seems as natural as breathing. Yet compared with the knife and the spoon, which appeared very early, the fork is a latecomer (后来者) to the table.
Researches show that the fork was first used in Ancient Egypt (埃及), China and Greece (希腊). Since the 4th century BC, the fork managed to become common on the tables of upper society in Eastern Europe and by the 9th century, it travelled to the Middle East and started being used by the upper class under the name “barjyn”. This enabled the fork to slowly become popular in these areas.
In the 11th century, the fork came to Italy in the dowry of a princess (王妃的嫁妆) from the Middle East who married an Italian official. When the church saw the princess use the fork, they strongly criticized (批评) her, saying that the fork disrespected the practice of using the fingers. Then the fork disappeared from the table for nearly 300 years. It began to be accepted in Italy by the late 16th century. However, most European countries accepted the fork only by the 18th century and the United States didn’t welcome it until the early 19th century.
During its life, the fork has changed in terms of appearance. In its early use, the fork had only two tines (齿). As the centuries went on, its design slowly started taking on a modern look. The fork which has four tines was introduced in the 18th century in Germany. By the early 20th century, the invention of stainless steel (不锈钢) enabled the fork to be made more easily.
