Many scientists have studied the differences between men and women. And they all got the same answer. The sexes (性别) are different, because their brains are different. And this, the scientists say, makes men and women see the world in different ways.
Boys, for example, generally are better than girls at mathematical ideas. Boys generally are also better than girls at the kind of hand and eye movements necessary for ball sports. Girls, on the other hand, generally start speaking earlier than boys. And they generally see better in the dark than boys and are better at learning foreign languages.
What makes men and women better at one thing or another? The answer is the brain: The brain has two sides connected by nerve tracks (神经束). The left side generally is used for mathematics, speech and writing. The right side is used for artistic creation and the expression of emotions (情感). In men and women, different areas (区域) in each side of the brain develop differently. In boys, for example, it’s the area used for mathematics. In girls, it is the area used for language skills. Another interesting difference is that the two sides of a man’s brain are connected by smaller nerves than the two sides of a woman’s brain are.

In Finland (芬兰), a family came up with a special idea to protect their forest: they let people come and hug the trees. Next summer, the fifth World Tree Hugging Games will happen in Finland. In this game, people do three things: first, hug as many trees as possible in one minute, with each hug lasting at least five seconds. Second, give a whole-hearted hug to one tree for one minute, showing care, love, and respect. Third, people must creatively hug a tree for one minute. Then, the judges will decide the winner.
It might sound strange, but the game has a serious meaning: to help people connect with nature and save the forest from being cut down. “At first, people thought it was silly,” Riitta, the owner of a forest said, “but not in a bad way. Finns like to do unusual things and not be too serious, especially in the countryside and forest.”
In a recent survey, over 80% said the forest is important to them. Finland is heavily covered in forests, with over 70% of its land being forested.
What makes the tree-hugging program work well is that it’s not just about saving the forest; it also gives a good feeling to the visitors, like a hug does. “I enjoy taking people into the forest and seeing the change in them. The trees don’t judge them-they can be who they are,” said Ritta.

“Let’s check what it is,” dad says and gets up.
At that moment the animal flies over to the table and grabs (抓起) dad’s fish. The children laugh. Mum is not so happy. “Get off the table,” she shouts.
Dad goes to his computer.
“Hey, come and look! It’s a pterodactyl.”
“A pterodactyl?” shout the children
“Yes, they lived a long, long time ago. They’re a type of dinosaur (恐龙). Pterodactyls can fly.”
Dad sits down at the table. “Where’s my fish?” he asks.
“Look at Dacty, dad. He’s got it.” says Helen.

The 6,397-kilometer Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia. It covers an area of about 1.8 million square kilometers, about one fifth of the national total. Especially, the river’s Chinese paddlefish (白鲟) has died out. So the “mother river” is in great need of protection. To solve these problems, China put a 10-year fishing ban (禁令) to protect fish resources.
According to a report of the government the fishermen said they would give up fishing along the Yangtze River to protect the “mother river”. Chinese official Han Zheng said that more support should be given to the fishermen to help them find new jobs and places to live.
