Although my career began with a Bachelor’s degree in music education and a Master’s degree in jazz performance, I never imagined I would one day become the Superintendent of Schools in the New Hope-Solebury School District. After ten years of teaching music in the School District of Philadelphia and the Neshaminy School District, I slowly moved into school leadership roles. These included Assistant Principal, Principal, Supervisor of Fine Arts K-12, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction K-12, Assistant Superintendent, and eventually Superintendent in two high-performing school districts.
Looking back, I now realize how much music has shaped my life — both personally and professionally. In high school, I worked hard in my classes, not just for grades, but I could continue playing the saxophone (萨克斯管) each day. As a music teacher, I learned to dedicate many hours outside the school day to help my students succeed. When I was asked in my first administrative interview if I was ready for the “long hours,” I smiled and replied, “Are the hours really longer than those of a music teacher?”
As Superintendent, I believe it’s important to be visible and to share my values and passions with the school community. Music still allows me to do that. Every December, I’m honored to guest conduct our high school choir (合唱团) and orchestra in selections from Handel’s Messiah — a tradition that now ends our final winter concert. In the spring, I play in the pit orchestra for our school’s musical, and at many school events, I often speak only briefly before sharing a piece of music on one of my woodwind instruments.
Music and the arts have always been at the heart of who I am. They continue to inspire my work and my leadership, and they will always play a central role in whatever path I take next.
28. What is the author’s Master’s degree in?
A. Music education. B. Jazz performance. C. School leadership. D. Music and the arts.
29. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. The author’s high school life. B. The author’s work as a teacher.
C. Music’s influence on the author. D. The author’s first interview experience.
30. What does the author do every December as Superintendent?
A. Acting as a guest conductor. B. Playing in the school musical.
C. Teaching saxophone to students. D. Composing a piece for the school concert.
31. What is the best description of music for the writer?
A. A way to relax. B. A hobby after work.
C. A memory from youth. D. A lifelong source of strength.
【答案】28 B 29. C 30. A 31. D

The Government has proposed to spend money developing wireless charging roads in the UK as part of a &40 million plan. Wireless charging roads-could be developed to recharge electric cars while they drive along to solve some problems about limited equipment to encourage ownership of these vehicles and ensure better air quality. The Government has promised the money to developing both on-street and wireless charging to help transformation from internal combustion engine (内燃机) cars to electric cars.
These systems work similarly to a Scalextric toy car. Wireless charging uses a process called electromagnetic induction (电磁感应) to move energy. On the ground is a pad in which electricity is passed through a set of wire to generate a magnetic field. It is then moved to a receiver on the underside of the car. Once the technology works, it could mean that drivers can fill up their car as they drive along, meaning there could be longer periods between charging.
The proposal was made in Department for Transport (DFT) and could also see charging points positioned at service stations and car parks. New homes will also, where permitted, be built with some points. David Martel, of the electric car charging company BP Chargemaster, said: “Wireless charging will make driving an electric vehicle as similar as possible to driving a petrol car but without going to the petrol station frequently. ”
This is not the first time that wireless charging roads have been proposed as a number of firms have developed technologies. Renault partnered with Qualcomm and VEDECOM Tech to develop a road to test the technology’s capability. The 100-meter test track was said to be capable of a charge up to 20 kilowatts at speeds up to, and over, 62 miles per hour (nearly 100 km/h). Despite the promising prospects, experts caution that the widespread deployment of wireless charging roads still faces significant hurdles. The substantial infrastructure costs, the logical complexity of road modifications, and the need for universal compatibility across different vehicle brands present considerable challenges that must be overcome.
32. What does the second paragraph focus on?
A. How the electric cars get charged. B. How a Scalextric toy car functions.
C. How the new technology benefits people. D. How the wireless road system runs.
33. How does David Martel find the new technology?
A. It makes electric car easy to drive. B. It gets petrol cars unfavorable.
C. It saves drivers’ trips to petrol stations. D. It gives rise to many new car parks.
34. Why does the author mention the figures in the last paragraph?
A. To announce the progress of the new technology.
B. To show the efficiency of the wireless road systems.
C. To encourage the cooperation among different firms.
D. To show the progress of the wireless charging technology.
35. What’s the expert’s attitude towards the development of wireless charging roads?
A. Fully confident. B. Cautiously optimistic.
C. Strongly opposed. D. Highly critical.

上文“Why should we learn a second language? In today’s highly-connected world, there are many reasons for learning a second language.(我们为什么要学习第二语言?在当今高度互联的世界里,学习第二语言有很多原因)”提出了关于学习第二语言原因的讨论。空处和前文为顺承关系,说明下面将列举一些原因。所以A项“以下是其中的一些原因。”符合语境,引出下文对学习第二语言原因的具体阐述。故选A。
下文“Learning another language allows you to talk with people who speak that language.(学习另一种语言能让你和说这种语言的人交流)”提出学习第二语言可促进人际交流。
上文“Traveling is much easier if you speak the language of the place you travel in.(如果你会说你旅行所在地的语言,旅行就会容易得多)”说明了会说当地语言对旅行的好处。
上文“Learning a language isn’t just about learning words or grammar. It’s also about learning about the history and culture of a country.(学习语言不只是学习单词或语法,还关乎了解一个国家的历史和文化)” 指出学习语言能接触历史文化;下文“And it can bring you closer to people of different nationalities.(而且它能让你更贴近不同国籍的人)”进一步说明语言学习的附加价值。
上文“Learning a second language improves your memory and strengthens your problem-solving abilities.(学习第二语言可以提高你的记忆力,增强你解决问题的能力)”说明了学习第二语言对大脑的积极影响。

______________________________________________________________________
It takes about twenty minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell your body that you are full.
It takes some time for sb./sth. to do sth. 的时间”应用from the time you start eating,“you start eating”为定语从句修饰先行词the time;表示“需要大约20分钟”应用takes about twenty minutes,为句式的核心谓语部分;表示“你的大脑告诉你的身体你吃饱了”应用for your brain to tell your body that you are full,“tell”后接双宾语,“that you are full”为宾语从句,作tell的宾语。 It takes about twenty minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell your body that you are full.

In addition, studies show that consistent eating habits, for example, taking three meals a day at the same time each day, are better for our health.

It is also better to eat a modest amount of food each time,其中it为形式主语,真正主语是后面的不定式短语,modest amount表示“适量”,each time作时间状语;“而不是”为rather than,表示“一餐吃很多”为to eat a lot in one meal,表示“而接下来的另一餐吃的很少”为and then a little in the next,其中rather than连接两个平行的不定式结构,a lot 和 a little 分别指代食物量的多与少,in one meal / in the next 表示两餐之间的对比。 It is also better to eat a modest amount of food each time, rather than to eat a lot in one meal, and then a little in the next.
