My host family are big fans of country music, so I can always rely on them to introduce me to some great songs. I love learning about country music and I keep asking them questions about it all the time! It turns out that country music became popular right here in the south of America in the 1940s and then spread across the nation. It grew out of such music types as the blues and folk music, so the musicians use many similar instruments, such as the guitar. The tunes are easy to sing, and the lyrics often leave you deep in thought. Most of the songs are about hardship and heartbreak, but also about hope—with plenty of humour thrown in for good measure. You can feel an emotional connection between you and the musicians. Country music shows the peaceful green fields and simple life of the countryside. Obviously I don't know what it's truly like to grow up in rural America, but the masters of country music, like John Denver, can make you feel like you're there. The simple tunes and beautiful natural images are often very suggestive of countryside surroundings: Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees Younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze (From “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver) Why don't you try to listen to some great country music? I guarantee you'll enjoy it! Best wishes, Harry 1.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in the first paragraph? A.Life. B.My host family. C.Country music. A.They use the simple tunes and beautiful natural images. B.The musicians play country music in the rural areas in America. C.They use complicated tunes to play country music. D.They put plenty of humour in the country music to show hope. 4.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Introducing the beauty of country music. B.Advising friends to listen to country music. C.Explaining the development of country music. D.Analyzing the differences between country music and other music. 答案:1~4.CDAB Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2025·廊坊高一期末)Charles Dickens was an English writer. He is regarded as one of the finest writers in English language and the greatest novelist of the Victorian Period. Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812.He was born to John Dickens and Elizabeth Dickens from Landport, Hampshire, England. His father was thrown in prison when he was a child. For this reason, Charles Dickens had to leave school. He started to work in factories from an early age. At age 20, he wanted to become an entertainer. He was full of energy and did mimicry (模仿) at the time. He got an acting audition (试镜) but missed it due to cold. Before Charles Dickens got another chance at fame in acting, he had already set out to become a writer. Charles Dickens rose to fame with The Pickwick Papers in 1836.He was using the pen name Boz at the time. His success as a novelist continued with the release of Oliver Twist in 1838.His later works Dombey and Son and David Copperfield had a more serious theme than his earlier works. David Copperfield is considered to be one of his greatest works ever. Dickens wrote 15 novels in his lifetime. He also wrote numerous short stories, essays, travelogues and plays. Dickens had a deep-rooted concern for the poor people because of his own experiences of hardship. He was a sharp critic (批评者) of the social problems of his time. He exposed the dark side of Victorian society such as the gap between the rich and the poor. He believed in the power of good and the possibility of social reform. His characters often tried to get a better life and moral values, giving readers a sense of hope. Charles Dickens married Catherine Dickens in 1936.On June 9, 1870, Charles Dickens died of a stroke at the age of 58. Charles Dickens had a profound influence on British literature. His literature spirit and vivid characters that he created inspired generations of writers and readers. 1.What did Dickens want to be at the age of 20? Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on? I think it better that way.” But is that really true? Does music help concentrate? Research offers little to back up the idea that listening to music improves concentration. In one small study, 133 students performed reading tasks while listening to either light music, hip hop, or no music at all. Students who performed the reading tasks in silence scored the highest. Music with a higher intensity (强度) like hip hop was more distracting and had a bad effect on task performance. Volume (音量) plays a more important role than the type of music. The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration. The type of music didn't matter. Data from the study showed once again that silence was the best environment to improve concentration. However, music has a positive effect on work performance. Studies have showed that listening to music leads to positive changes in mood, as well as creativity. In fact, in music-listening cultures, which students are certainly part of, there's actually a change in mood when the music is taken away. It's hard to convince my students that music doesn't help with their concentration. Taj, a senior told me, “I wouldn't be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read. However, when I write, I feel like music helps me concentrate deeply. I don't have writer's block. It's easy for me to put my words on paper.” “Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me. “You could actually be singing along with what you're listening to and doing well in math.” 5.What does the underlined word “distracting” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Causing great excitement. B.Making someone feel frightened. C.Making someone want to do something. D.Making it difficult for someone to concentrate. 根据画线词前的“Students who performed the reading tasks in silence scored the highest.” 6.What can we learn from the small study? A.The volume of music affects concentration. B.Music can't improve people's mood and creativity. C.Different types of music lead to different performances. D.Students do well in reading tasks while listening to music. 根据第三段中的“Volume plays a more important role...the worse the performance in concentration.” 7.What do Taj and Danela have in common? A.They believe music doesn't help concentrate. B.They use music to help with their paper-writing. C.They can't focus on reading while listening to music. D.They don't listen to music while doing math problems. 根据第五段中的“I wouldn't be able to concentrate...trying to read.” 8.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? A.Can Music Change Mood? B.Is Music Related to Reading? C.Should Students Listen to Music? D.Does Music Help Concentration? Ⅱ.七选五 (2025·沈阳市郊联体期末)Are you an art hobbyist or perhaps an art lover wishing to become an artist? In either case, finding time and inspiration to make art can be challenging. With work, school, friends, family, and household chores, it's easy to set aside your personal hobbies. 1.________ Here are several tips to get your creative practice going and build good art habits. 2.________ When you want to work in brief periods, it's important not to waste time gathering your tools and hunting for good lighting. For example, you'd better lay out your paints, prepare your pencils, fill your cups with water, and set everything up for creation. This way, you can dive right into the creative process when inspiration calls. Create a “library” for inspiration. Record your ideas in a Notes app or save posts from your favorite artists. 3.________They are also a fantastic way to discover your personal style and what artistic elements (要素) you would like to focus on as you develop your skills.
