Why are we always excited when we open new packages(快递)?
In fact, our brains are born to love new things. Scientists did a study on this. They gave a group of people different pictures. When they saw pictures they had never seen before, a special area in their brain became active. There was also more dopamine(多巴胺) in their body. Dopamine makes people feel happy.
Emrah Duzel, a professor at University College London, UK, did the study. He said,“When we see something new, we see it as a potential(可能性) for rewarding(奖赏) us in some way. That makes us want to explore our environment for rewards.” So, when we get packages, we become curious about what’s inside. That leads to more dopamine, so we want to open up the packages right away.
Showering also can help our body make more dopamine. According to US scientist Alice Flaherty, “taking a warm shower can make us feel relaxed and make the dopamine level rise by up to 250%. This can bring an ‘Aha’ moment to us.” When showering, we get into a new room. Our body feels a new temperature. These new things make us feel happy and let us think differently.
Dopamine increases when we finish tasks and check them off on our to-do list(待办事项清单). So, if you feel bored when you study, try to write the tasks down and then check them off one at a time. Even if you can remember them, you should still write them down and check them off. Our brain just feels happy doing it! You can also reward yourself when you make daily or weekly progress. This will make things more interesting to learn.
43.How do we feel when we open new packages?
A. Sad. B. Angry. C. Excited. D. Disappointed.
44.Why does seeing new things make people happy?
A. Because new things are active. B. Because it is a gift for them.
C. Because their brains are special. D. Because it leads to more dopamine.
45. What does the underlined word “rise” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Increase. B. Decline. C. Reduce. D. Remain.
46. What can we know from the passage?
A. When we get packages, we don’t care about what’s inside.
B. Taking a warm shower can make us feel nervous.
C. When showering, we get into an old room.
D. When we finish tasks and check them off on our to-do list, our body can make more dopamine.
47. What does this passage mainly tell us?
A. Our brains are born to love old things.
B. More dopamine can make people happy.
C. Showering can help our body make more dopamine.
D. You can also reward yourself when you make daily or weekly progress.

33.— How long ________ you ________ the book Dream of the Red Chamber?
— For about two weeks. I'll return it to the library tomorrow.
A. have; borrowed B. did; borrow C. have; kept D. were; borrowing
根据“How long”和“For about two weeks”可知,句子描述的是从过去持续到现在的动作,应用现在完成时(have/has + 过去分词)。
34.The teacher, together with her students, ________ an experiment in the chemistry lab from 2 to 4 yesterday afternoon.
A. was doing B. were doing C. did D. had done
【答案】A
时间状语“from 2 to 4 yesterday afternoon”表示过去某一时间段内正在进行的动作,应用过去进行时(was/were doing),故答案为A。
35.— I wonder if we ________ to visit the Hubei Provincial Museum next Friday.
— I think we will if it ________.
A. will go; doesn't rain B. go; won't rain
C. are going; isn't raining D. went; hadn't rained
【答案】A
主句“I wonder if we will go...”
36.The government has taken measures to make ________ easier for tourists from home and abroad to learn about the profound Chu culture.
A.that B. it C. this D. What
动词make后接复合宾语时,若宾语是不定式短语“to learn about...” + for sb. to do sth.”,故答案为B。
37.— I find it hard to remember all these new words.
— ________, you could make flashcards. It might help.
A. For example B. In fact C. Such as D. Maybe
38.— How do you like the two lakes, East Lake and South Lake?
— Both are beautiful, but East Lake is much ________ and has more attractions around it.
A. large B. larger C. largest D. the largest
39.— ________ is important for us to protect the environment along the Yangtze River.
— I agree. We should reduce pollution and protect the fish there.
A. This B. That C. It D. What
句子真正的主语是动词不定式“to protect the environment...”,应用“It is + adj. + (for sb.) + to do sth.”
40.— I’ll call you ________ I get the tickets for the Chu Kingdom Music and Dance show.
— Great! Thank you so much.
A. until B. although C. as soon as D. Unless
as soon as表示“一… until(直到),although(尽管),unless(除非)均不符,故答案为C。
41.— I wonder if these shoes are available in a larger size.
— Let me check for you. Would you mind ________ for a moment?
A. wait B. to wait C. waiting D. Waited
“Would you mind...”
42.— Thank you so much for helping me with the math problem.
— ________. That’s what classmates are for.
A.With pleasure B. Never mind C. It doesn’t matter D. My pleasure
当对方说“Thank you so much...” A项“With pleasure”通常用于愉快地答应对方的请求,意为“乐意效劳”;B项“Never mind”和C项“It doesn’t matter”多用于回应对方的道歉,意为“没关系”。

【答案】43.C 44. D 45.A 46.D 47.B
根据文章第一句话“Why are we always excited when we open new packages?”
根据文章第二段最后两句“…a special area in their brain became active. There was also more dopamine(多巴胺) in their body. Dopamine makes people feel happy.”
根据文章第四段“…taking a warm shower can make us feel relaxed and make the dopamine level rise by up to 250%.”
根据文章最后一段第一句“Dopamine increases when we finish tasks and check them off on our to-do list(待办事项清单).”
