How to Read the Memories of Trees
[WHAT] Tree rings are the circular patterns found inside a tree trunk after it is cut down. They are known as the "memories of trees" because they store many secrets from the forest's past.
[WHY] These rings are very useful because they act as a record of the environment. By studying them, scientists can understand climate change, find out when natural disasters happened, and even learn about human history.
[HOW] Here is how you can "read" these memories. First, count the number of rings to tell the age of the tree. Second, look at the width of each ring: a wide ring means the tree had enough sun and rain, while a narrow one shows a dry season. Finally, check for black areas; these scars usually tell us when a forest fire occurred.
