A
Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world. Rising Temperatures might boost crop production in cold regions but negatively impact production in warmer areas. Wheat and rice — which benefit from more CO2 in the atmosphere — could see growing output, while corn and sorghum (高粱) could see a decline with warmer temperatures.
Farmers can adjust their practices to a warmer climate in four key ways:
A recent study by experts modeled three adaptation methods — changing WHAT, changing WHEN and changing both of them. The chart below shows their impact on the output of corn, rice, sorghum, soybean (大豆) and wheat.
These three adaptation methods can already go some way to relieve climate pressures in some countries. But, of course, we don’t only care about crop production at the global level. If farmers in particular regions — especially those that are most food-insecure — cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem. So there is more we can do in the future.
21. What should farmers change if they are short of money and labour?
A. WHAT. B. WHERE. C. WHEN. D. HOW.
22. Which crop may benefit most if farmers plant improved varieties?
A. Corn. B. Rice. C. Sorghum. D. Wheat.
23. What should be done in the future?
A. To help the farmers in need. B. To adopt the three methods.
C. To focus on crop production. D. To move to colder regions.

My initial exploration of the world of comic books happened through the comic strips (连环漫画) in newspapers. It began with a fondness for Garfield and his adventures, and led to the discovery of a range of comic books like Champak and Archie. While my access to comics as a child was limited to what was printed in the newspaper, this changed once I grew older and started visiting bookstores to buy the books that I wanted to read.
Having grown up on a diet of image-heavy books, I regarded diving into all-text novels as a formidable undertaking. As I searched for books that lay somewhere in between, I came across a copy of Bhimayana — a graphic novel. It felt familiar due to its comic-like theme and design. Plus, understanding complex narratives through pictures was relatively easier and more fun. Growing older, I found myself graduating to graphic novels from childish comic books. They deal with serious topics in a more engaging manner and literally show me what was going on.
Fast-forward a few years to when I was given a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. While I was impressed by the compelling (扣人心弦的) nature of storytelling in his novel, I am not sure if I would have been able to visualize and enjoy his text-only version so much had I not read Charles Dixon’s The Hobbit first. Thanks to Charles Dixon, I had a picture of whatever had happened, and that made it easier and more fun to understand J.R.R. Tolkien’s version.
From black and white strips to illustrated graphic novels, this transformation has come a long way. While my romance with books is still ongoing, in the long run, my love for illustrated novels is more substantial and here to stay.
24. What can we learn about the author as a little kid?

25. What does the underlined word “formidable” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Discouraging. B. Rewarding. C. Entertaining. D. Enlightening.
26. What can be inferred about Charles Dixon’s The Hobbit?
A. It contains rich visual material. B. It presents a complicated plot.
C. It focuses on the latest news. D. It shapes Tolkien’s writing style.
27. What could be the best title for the text?
A. Welcome to the World of Literature B. Can’t Get Enough of Graphic Novels
C. Let Comic Books Shape Who I Am D. Find Myself through Reading Novels

Is text-messaging driving us apart? These days, we talk to each other a lot with our thumbs — sending six billion text messages a day, and likely a few billion more on services like Whats App.
But some worry that so much messaging leads to less communication. For instance, when hanging out with friends, we’d be texting secretively at the same time, pretending to maintain eye contact but mentally somewhere else.
New technologies often upset the way we relate to one another, of course. But such division caused by texting has a strong echo in the arguments we had over telephone a hundred years ago. The small device gave us a new way to contact one another and quickly promote new forms of socializing. Callers arranged regular “visiting” calls, dialing remote family to catch up on news.
Soon, though, social critics thought it would be so easy to talk that we’d never leave each other alone. Others worried that the telephone sped up life, demanding instant reactions. The use of the telephone gave little room for reflection. It produced a craziness in the ordinary concerns of life which didn’t make for domestic happiness. “We shall soon be nothing but transparent piles of jelly (果冻) to each other,” a London writer moaned in 1897.
However, nowadays the telephone call seems like a throwback to a gentler era. When Jenna Birch, a communication professor at the University of Iowa, started dating a man who insisted on calling her on the phone, she found it warm and delightful. So she doesn’t think the shift to texting has degraded our interactions. According to her study, teenagers who text the most are also those who spend the most time face to face with friends. Communication, it seems, brings more communication, and — as she argues — just because talk happens in text doesn’t mean it’s not meaningful.
Michéle Martin of Carleton University, thinks we’re living through a replay of the telephone, where the things that made it valuable — instant communications — are the same that made it annoying. “People believe they are liberated because they can bring the mobile phone everywhere,” Martin says. “But at the same time, they are slaves to it.”
28. What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To describe a scene.
C. To offer an argument. D. To issue a warning.
29. According to paragraph 4, what does telephone use cause?
A. People experience very tight schedule. B. People tend to lack individuality.
C. People become narrow and uninformed. D. People lose the ability to reflect.
30. What can we learn from paragraph 5?
A. Telephone calls are particularly welcomed in dating.
B. Teenagers are addicted to communicating by texting.
C. The shift to texting is destructive to face-to-face time.
D. The meaning of communication goes beyond medium.
31. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Oh My God! We’ve Been Here Before! B. Gone with the Wind, Dear Texting!
C. Life is Too Short for So Many Texting. D. Oh, Telephone, a Tale of Two Sides.

Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, is blanketed in smog, rich in surface organic molecules (分子). However, its surface is extremely cold, around -179°C, making chemical reactions for life progress very slowly.
Scientists believe a vast liquid ocean, holding 12 times the volume of Earth’s oceans combined, exists deep underground where it’s warmer. Similar oceans may exist on moons like Jupiter’s moons Europa and Ganymede, where there could be liquid water, often suggesting possible life, but researcher Catherine Neish and her team challenge this idea.
Their research suggests that for Titan’s ocean to support life, a significant amount of organic molecules from the surface must reach it to start the chemistry needed for life. The main way this could happen is through comet (彗星) impacts. Impacts melt surface ice, creating pools of water mixed with organics. Because liquid water is denser than ice, these pools could sink. However, Neish’s models show comet strikes are too infrequent to deliver enough organic material.
Her team estimates only about 7,500 kilograms of simple amino acid (氨基酸) reach Titan’s ocean every year. While this sounds substantial, it’s equal to the mass of one male African elephant spread across an ocean with a dozen times the volume of Earth’s oceans, truly a drop in the ocean. Even in this most optimistic scenario, there’s not enough organics transported into Titan’s ocean to sustain life there.
Other possibilities exist, like some hot vents on the seafloor where water meets rock, making all kinds of molecules erupt and set off complex chemical reactions that could support life. Could similar internal sources provide organics on Titan? Neish doesn’t rule this out, but points out a concern: organics from Titan’s interior might be mostly molecules with exceptional stability, which are difficult to transform into essential biological units like amino acids.
While directly exploring these oceans to find life is still far off, Neish’s research highlights the value of NASA’s planned Dragonfly mission to Titan. If Neish is correct, Dragonfly could find sites where comet impacts mixed water and organics, allowing scientists to study prebiological chemistry similar to what led to life on Earth.
32. What can make chemical reactions slow on Titan?
A. The thick smog. B. The comet impacts.
C. The extreme climate. D. The absence of organics.
33. How does the author emphasize the insufficiency of organics?
A. By listing different sources. B. By providing exact statistics.
C. By quoting experts’ opinions. D. By making a vivid comparison.
34. What can be inferred about internal organic sources from Titan?
A. They contain enough liquid water.
B. They have special chemical nature.
C. They contribute to life’s development.
D. They are identical to those on the Earth.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Suitable Ground for Life. B. The Secret Leading to Life.
C. Prospects for Life on Titan. D. A Mission to Explore Titan.

Have you ever walked away from a conversation with the sinking feeling that you said too much? Not because you were impolite or inconsiderate — but because you tried to explain yourself to someone who didn’t really want to understand? ____36____
Over-explaining happens often in our daily life. This behavior originated in early survival strategies. For those raised in emotionally unpredictable households, clarity may be a form of self-protection. Anticipating others’ reactions, smoothing things over, or presenting a “bulletproof” reason may prevent punishment or emotional fallout. ____37____ People who have ever undergone trauma (创伤) tend to explain a lot to avoid conflict or rejection.
Regardless of origin, the pattern is the same: We spend unnecessary energy trying to justify our right to take up space, to say no or to make choices others might not like. ____38____ Clear language like “I’ve made my decision.” and “Let’s shift the conversation.” can actually do the trick. These direct statements prioritize emotional honesty without over-disclosure. And they don’t leave space for negotiation where none is guaranteed.
____39____ You spend less of it in practicing, defending, or recovering, and you needn’t always react to others’ discomfort. You also start attracting a different kind of relationship. It is based not on performance or submission, but on mutual respect. ____40____ You begin healing the part of you that believed love had to be earned through explanation. The version of you who felt unsafe being misunderstood learns a new truth:Your worth was never conditional or dependent on being agreeable or persuasive.
A. If so, you are not alone.
B. But maybe the biggest shift is internal.
C. Like any behavioral change, this takes practice.
D. But it’s not impossible to rid ourselves of the trouble.
E. When you stop over-explaining, you reclaim emotional energy.
F. Have you ever explained to show your politeness and consideration?
G. Over-explaining can also come from the way your brain is wired by past experiences.

In our cozy little house nestled at the end of a quiet street, my sister Oscar and I were bustling (忙碌的) about, filled with anticipation for Mother’s Day. Our mother Clare was the heart of our family. She was the type of mom who always put our needs first, sacrificing her own desires for our happiness.
Growing up, we established a beautiful tradition that each year, we would surprise her with a special gift to show our gratitude and love. This year, Oscar came up with a brilliant idea: “What if we made her a long and beautiful dress?” she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement. As I recalled, since the day we were born, Mom hadn’t bought herself a beautiful new dress, so I knew we had to make this year’s surprise truly special.
With that thought in mind, we set to work. I grabbed my drawing book and began to design, my pencil dancing across the page; while Oscar with her perfect sense of measurement and love for sewing. she got down to handling the cloth. Her eyes shone with concentration, while I focused on the beautiful patterns on the dress. Soon, the dress began to take shape — it was such a magnificent long dress, and we carefully wrapped it in gift paper.
But then came the question: where to hide it for the surprise to be revealed at dinner? We put our heads together brainstorming the perfect hiding spot. “Nobody would think to look in my bedroom closet.” I suggested Oscar giggled, nodding in agreement, but we both neglected the fact that our two playful cats could be a problem.
Finally, the moment arrived. After dessert, I exchanged a knowing look with Oscar. It was time to unveil our creation! We dashed to our bedroom together, my heart pounding in my chest as I flung open the closet door.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

M: I did a degree in film photography, and then worked as a television cameraman on wildlife programs. Soon, people knew me as someone who could do difficult things. After traveling around the world for ten years, I felt working in films wasn’t a stable choice. I was so tired of all the travel. Luckily, the flexible work schedule enabled me to think of starting something new. But actually, it all started in the 1990s when I worked as an instructor in a gym, which helped sports companies develop products.
W: How would you describe yourself?
M: People aren’t satisfied with me as I always rush in without thinking things through. I’m not afraid to make mistakes, although I hope to make fewer. Basically, I’m excited by ideas and I can’t wait to put them into action.
W: What challenges do you think lie ahead?
M: In the last few years, many health clubs struggled to keep members. But it’s less of a problem. Now, we’ll focus on how we stand out as everybody targets the same markets. To this end, we’ll offer a wide range of activities and try to educate people during these activities.

M: Hello. Everyone. Today I want to introduce a robotic police dog, which is called Spot and is being used to perform some tasks in Honolulu and record through its built-in camera. The robot Spot can move in an animal-like manner and walk over almost anything a person can. But some people criticized that the robot may become a danger to their privacy. Instead, they are less concerned about the risks it brings to job hunting and property. The supervisor of the Honolulu Police Department said it helped a lot. The New York Police Department also started using Spot after painting it blue and renaming it “Digidog”. There are about 500 Spot robots in use. Kim Smith, a legal director of a big company, said Spot robots are used by companies to inspect areas with dangerous levels of electricity and also used in building sites, mines and factories. Kim said that there might be some good uses for such machines, but opening the door for police robots to work with the public is unwise.
A
Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world.
21 What should farmers change if they are short of money and labour?
A. WHAT. B. WHERE. C. WHEN. D. HOW.
C 22. B 23. A

根据最后一段“If farmers in particular regions — especially those that are most food-insecure — cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem. So there is more we can do in the future.(如果特定地区的农民——特别是那些粮食最不安全的地区——无法适应气候变化,这仍然是一个主要问题。因此,未来我们还可以做更多。)”可知,未来应该帮助有需要的农民,特别是那些粮食最不安全的地区的农民。故选A。
B
A. He mined newspapers for knowledge. B. Comics struck him as shallow.
C. He cared little for book categories. D. Comics were his main reading joy.
25. What does the underlined word “formidable” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Discouraging. B. Rewarding. C. Entertaining. D. Enlightening.
26. What can be inferred about Charles Dixon’s The Hobbit?
A. It contains rich visual material. B. It presents a complicated plot.
C. It focuses on the latest news. D. It shapes Tolkien’s writing style.
27. What could be the best title for the text?
A. Welcome to the World of Literature B. Can’t Get Enough of Graphic Novels
C. Let Comic Books Shape Who I Am D. Find Myself through Reading Novels
D 25. A 26. A 27. B

C
C The shift to texting is destructive to face-to-face time.
A 29. B 30. D 31. A
根据第一段“Is text-messaging driving us apart? These days, we talk to each other a lot with our thumbs — sending six billion text messages a day, and likely a few billion more on services like Whats App.(短信正在让我们疏远吗?如今,我们经常用拇指互相交谈——每天发送60亿条短信,而在Whats App等服务上可能还会多发送几十亿条。)”可知,第一段通过提出“短信是否让我们疏远”的问题,并给出当前短信发送量的数据,来引出文章要讨论的主题。故选A。
根据第四段“ Soon, though, social critics thought it would be so easy to talk that we’d never leave each other alone. Others worried that the telephone sped up life, demanding instant reactions. The use of the telephone gave little room for reflection. It produced a craziness in the ordinary concerns of life which didn’t make for domestic happiness. “We shall soon be nothing but transparent piles of jelly ( 果冻 ) to each other,” a London writer moaned in 1897.(然而不久之后,社会评论家们认为,仅仅通过通话就能交流得如此顺畅,以至于我们根本无法独处片刻。
根据第五段“However, nowadays the telephone call seems like a throwback to a gentler era. Communication, it seems, brings more communication, and — as she argues — just because talk happens in text doesn’t mean it’s not meaningful.(但如今,打电话反而像是回到了更温和的旧时光。
因此,A选项“Oh My God! We’ve Been Here Before!(天哪!我们以前来过这里!)”最符合文章主旨,既表达了短信与电话交流影响的相似性,又带有一种对历史重演的感慨,适合用作标题。故选A。
D
C 33. D 34. B 35. C
根据第一段“However, its surface is extremely cold, around -179°C, making chemical reactions for life progress very slowly.(然而,它的表面温度极低,约为-179°C,使得生命所需的化学反应进展非常缓慢。)”
根据第四段“Her team estimates only about 7,500 kilograms of simple amino acid (氨基酸) reach Titan’s ocean every year. While this sounds substantial, it’s equal to the mass of one male African elephant spread across an ocean with a dozen times the volume of Earth’s oceans, truly a drop in the ocean.(她的团队估计,每年只有大约7500公斤的简单氨基酸到达土卫六的海洋。虽然这听起来数量可观,但它相当于一头雄性非洲象的质量,分散在体积是地球海洋十几倍的海洋中,真是沧海一粟。)”可知,作者通过生动的比较来强调有机物的不足,故选D。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Neish doesn’t rule this out, but points out a concern: organics from Titan’s interior might be mostly molecules with exceptional stability, which are difficult to transform into essential biological units like amino acids.(Neish并不排除这种可能性,但她指出一个担忧:土卫六内部的有机物可能主要是具有特殊稳定性的分子,这些分子很难转化为氨基酸等基本生物单位。)”
A 37. G 38. D 39. E 40. B
根据前文以设问句“Have you ever walked away from a conversation with the sinking feeling that you said too much? Not because you were impolite or inconsiderate — but because you tried to explain yourself to someone who didn't really want to understand? (你是否曾在一场对话后离开时,带着一种自己说得太多的不安感?不是因为你无礼或考虑不周——而是因为你试图向一个根本不想理解你的人解释自己?)”引出“过度解释”的话题,此空需回应这种经历是否普遍。A选项“If so, you are not alone.(如果是这样,你并不孤单)”中“if so”直接承接前文的设问场景,“not alone”既缓解了读者可能的孤独感,又自然过渡到下文“Over-explaining happens often in our daily life.(过度解释在日常生活中很常见)”的论述,符合语境。故选A项。
根据前文“Over-explaining happens often in our daily life. This behavior originated in early survival strategies. For those raised in emotionally unpredictable households, clarity may be a form of self-protection.(过度解释在日常生活中很常见。这种行为源于早期的生存策略。对于在情绪不稳定的家庭中长大的人来说,清晰的解释可能是一种自我保护方式)”可知,前文已提及过度解释的一个起源(早期生存策略与家庭环境),此空需补充其他起源。G选项“Over-explaining can also come from the way your brain is wired by past experiences.(过度解释也可能源于过去经历塑造的大脑思维模式)”中“also”体现递进关系,补充了“过往经历”这一起源,且与后文“People who have ever undergone trauma tend to explain a lot to avoid conflict or rejection.(经历过创伤的人往往会过多解释以避免冲突或被拒绝)”中“过往创伤”的具体例子相呼应,完善了“过度解释起源”的论述,符合语境。故选G项。
根据前文“Regardless of origin, the pattern is the same: We spend unnecessary energy trying to justify our right to take up space, to say no or to make choices others might not like.(无论起源如何,这种模式都是相同的:我们花费不必要的精力,试图证明自己有权利占据空间、说“不”或做出别人可能不喜欢的选择)”可知,前文指出了过度解释的问题与负面影响,此空需转折并引出解决方法。D选项“But it’s not impossible to rid ourselves of the trouble.(但要摆脱这个困扰并非不可能)”中“but”形成转折,打破前文“过度解释带来困扰”的负面氛围,“not impossible”传递出“可改变”的积极信号,自然引出后文“Clear language like ‘I’ve made my decision.’ and ‘Let’s shift the conversation.’ can actually do the trick.(像‘我已经做了决定’和‘我们换个话题吧’这样简洁的表达其实能解决问题)”的具体方法,符合语境。故选D项。
根据后文“You spend less of it in practicing, defending, or recovering, and you needn’t always react to others’ discomfort.(你会少花精力去练习、辩解或恢复,也不必总是对别人的不适做出反应)”可知,后文描述的是“停止过度解释”后节省精力的好处,此空需总领该内容。E选项“When you stop over-explaining, you reclaim emotional energy.(当你停止过度解释时,你会重新获得情感能量)”中“reclaim emotional energy(重新获得情感能量)”直接概括了后文“少花精力在辩解、恢复”的核心好处,“it”指代“emotional energy”,与后文“spend less of it”形成呼应,符合语境。故选E项。
根据前文“You also start attracting a different kind of relationship. It is based not on performance or submission, but on mutual respect.(你还会开始吸引一种不同类型的关系。这种关系不基于表现或顺从,而是基于相互尊重)”可知,前文阐述的是停止过度解释带来的“外在关系”变化,此空需转折并深入到“内在”层面。B选项“But maybe the biggest shift is internal.(但或许最大的改变在于内在)”符合语境,引起下文。故选B项。

We put our heads together, brainstorming the perfect hiding spot.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 “NO!” I yelled, seeing our cats dashed out of the closet. My eyes widened in horror as I saw the gift-wrapped dress on the floor, torn and tattered. Oscar’s face paled as we both stared at the ruined surprise. Tears welled up in my eyes. How could this have happened? But there was no time to wallow in disappointment. We had to think fast.
“Where did you get such a beautiful scarf?” Mom asked. I looked at Oscar, panic-stricken. Then, on the spur of the moment, I grabbed the torn pieces of fabric and held them up. “Mom, this was supposed to be a dress for you. We made it with all our love. But the cats got to it.” Mom’s eyes filled with emotion. She took the pieces from me and hugged us both. “This is the most beautiful ‘scarf’ I’ve ever seen. It’s filled with your love and that’s all that matters.”
