It's common to see a barista()create coffee art,but it's a whole different ballgame
doing the same thing with tea.Han Zheming has managed to perfect the skill, creating tea art in
cups,or dian cha in Chinese, which used to be a ritual()during the Song Dynasty.
Over the past six years,he has used tea and spoons to create nearly 200 patterns based on
ancient paintings."It's like adding bells and whistles to tea and giving people a stronger sense of
occasion,so drinking tea is more fun,"Han says. It's also his intention to bring the old ritual
back to modern life and have more people appreciate its charm.
Chinese tea culture started to enjoy popularity during the Tang Dynasty and flourished(
throughout the Song Dynasty, when tea had become a necessity for almost everyone, from
nobles and scholars to common people, just like other necessary items, such as rice, oil and salt.
In the Song Dynasty, the popular way of having tea was through dian cha.The process
begins with hot water being poured over fine powdered tea, creating a paste. Then more hot
water is slowly added as the tea is constantly whisked()by hand with a bamboo stick. This
action of pouring hot water is called dian, hence the name dian cha, which was listed as an
intangible cultural heritage of Runzhou District,Zhenjiang City,Jiangsu Province.
Han has been fascinated by the culture and art of the Song Dynasty."My mother loves
traditional culture and I have been leaning toward it under her influence,"Han says. After
graduating in 2006,he took great delight in drinking tea gradually. This led him to learn about
traditional tea culture and buy ceramic tea sets, especially those made in the style of the Song
Dynasty. While studying the history and trying to figure out the reasons behind the use of tea
sets,he came across the art of dian cha."I was amazed by this wonderful way of drinking tea,

By scanning a QR code at a service station,Li Xinpeng had his parcels delivered by an
unmanned vehicle, thanks to the launch of the first rural drone delivery route in Wuhan,Hubei
Province.
The drone is capable of flying at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour and cruising()at an
altitude of 120 meters.Operated by skilled professionals, the payload hexacopter drone boasts an
impressive one-hour flight endurance()and can carry as many as 300 to 500 parcels at a
time.
"Sometimes a delivery journey would have taken me over 40 minutes on my motorcycle,
remarked Liu Jianying,a postman from the Xinzhou branch of China Post Group (CPG),adding
that drone deliveries are not hindered by traffic jams or other road conditions."The drones will
significantly reduce transport time and enhance the efficiency of parcel distribution,"he said.
In collaboration with CPG,the local government in Xinzhou pioneered Wuhan's first rural
drone delivery route, which is currently undergoing test flights across three pilot villages. It is
predicted to officially launch flight operations in early December, with plans to expand to 13
villages within the region upon the successful completion of the trial phase.
Xinzhou district is located in the remote Dabie Mountains, featuring vast mountains and
forests. Most of the villages are quite far apart in this area, leading to a dispersed (
population. As online shopping experiences significant growth and the demand for delivery
continues to rise, this drone delivery route is expected to become an important supplement.
"During the initial stages, the purchase, maintenance and operation costs of drones might
be relatively high. But in the long term,as drones become widely used, the unit costs will
decrease, effectively addressing issues related to labor shortages and high logistics costs,"Zhang
Dawei,a professor from the institute of urban and rural governance at Central China Normal
University, was quoted by Hubei Daily as saying.

In the past thirty years, bee numbers in the United Kingdom have fallen by nearly a third.
The main reasons are climate change and the loss of natural habitats. These changes make it
hard for bees to find enough pollen(花粉)and nectar(花蜜).Pollen is very important because it
gives bees proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals.Without these nutrients, bees cannot stay
healthy.Beekeepers sometimes give bees extra food, but these supplements do not have all the
nutrients bees need.As a result, the lack of good food has become a serious problem for the
survival of honeybees.
To solve this problem, scientists led by Professor Geraldine Wright from the University of
Oxford worked to design a better food. The challenge was that bees need special nutrients called
sterols, which are not easy to make. The team first studied which sterols bees need, and then
found a way to produce them. They created a type of yeast()that can make all six sterols
needed by bees. The next step was to prepare the food in a form that bees would accept.Since
bees are picky eaters, the team made a soft "cookie-dough"mixture with bee-friendly
ingredients.
The scientists tested the new food in glasshouses. The results were impressive.Colonies
that ate the superfood produced up to fifteen times more young bees than colonies that did not
eat it.These young bees also grew into healthy adults. The bees with the new diet lived longer,
took better care of their young, and were stronger against diseases. This showed that the
superfood could greatly improve bees'growth and survival.Wright called this new food "a huge
breakthrough for the species".
The study has important significance for both bees and people. With this new food, bees
will not need to fight so much for wildflowers. This can help bee populations recover and become
stronger.Since bees are key pollinators()for many crops, protecting them also helps
protect human food supplies. If the superfood is used on a larger scale,it could be a big step
toward saving bees and supporting global food security.
32.What main problem do UK bees face?
A.Lack of food supplements.
B.Spreading of serious diseases.
C.Shortage of pollen and nectar.
D.Decline of activity and strength.
33.How did scientists address the problem?
A.By offering special nutrients to bees.
B.By testing natural pollen sources.
C.By planting diverse wildflowers.
D.By changing bee living environment.
34.What effect did the superfood bring to bees?
A.They became virus-resistant.
B.Their colonies reduced in size.
C.Their young had longer life.
D.They stopped being picky eaters.
35.What broader value does the study show?
A.It promotes scientific progress.
B.It strengthens stable food supply.
C.It increases sales of flower seeds.
D.It quickens world trade in crops.

The Silk Road was a network of ancient trade routes across Asia to the Mediterranean Sea,
a key bridge for East-West cultural and commercial exchanges. It let China trade with the
Middle East and Mediterranean regions, fostering the flow of goods and ideas for centuries.
36 Before this name, the routes facilitated trade quietly, but the term stuck as silk-then a
rare,China-exclusive fabric-was a main commodity.
Officially formed in the Western Han Dynasty, the Silk Road relied heavily on Zhang Qian,
an imperial envoy(钦差大臣).Emperor Wu of Han sent him to make contact with countries in
Central Asia.37 His reports gave China precious insights into Western peoples, lands and
customs, laying a foundation for the route's long prosperity.
The Silk Road was more than a goods corridor.Besides silk,it carried fruits, livestock,
grain, leather, tools and precious metals.38 Paper was invented in China during the 3rd
century BC,and its use spread via the Silk Road, arriving first in Samarkand in around AD 700,
and then to Europe. Moreover, gunpowder also went west through this route.
Venetian explorer Marco Polo took the Silk Road to China, arriving in 1275 after a
dangerous journey. He lived in China for years, witnessing China's advanced civilization, and his
journeys became the inspiration for The Travels of Marco Polo.39
Today, the Silk Road is brought to life again.40 This initiative, rooted in the ancient
route's spirit of cooperation,has reconnected Asian,European and African nations,continuing
its cross-continental legacy.
A.It also served as a channel for Chinese inventions to reach the West.
B.He thus braved countless trails and hardships to reach the region.
C.China proposed the concept of the Silk Road Economic Belt in 2013.
D.The term "Silk Road"was first coined by a German geographer in 1877.

It was around 6:30 on a June 2023 morning when a Facebook post caught Boyd Jordan's
eye.Shell Isle Store,a floating beach-supplies shop, had been torn from its moorings()
on Shell Island (off Florida's northern Gulf Coast)by a night storm and floated 3 miles to
Panama City.
Jordan,a boat repairman,called the store's owner-his friend Chris Bourque-and offered
to bring back the pink one-room shop.He borrowed a motorboat, while Bourque took a less
powerful one.
They reached the store with Jordan's friend Tamara Chagnon and Bourque's wife Sarah
under clear skies and light wind. But minutes later, their phones rang and they were warned that
an unexpected thunderstorm was coming. They dropped a second anchor()as a storm cloud
appeared;it was mid-morning,yet the sky behind the cloud was as dark as midnight.Wind
jumped from 10 to 50 mph in two minutes, and a full-on storm hit.
The anchors proved useless in85 mph gusts(一阵狂风)and6-foot waves.Shell Isle Store
was on the move again. The two women went inside the store seeking shelter. The two men
remained on their respective boats, trying to hold the floating store steady with lines and more
anchors.
Then came one sudden, destructive gust, and the shop was overturned, trapping the
women inside. The only way out was a sliding glass door that had been jammed in the chaos.
Chris Bourque climbed onto the broken roof that had partially torn off and cried to his wife
and friend inside,"I don't know how to get you out!"
With winds blowing hard, rain pouring down and waves rising high,Jordan jumped off the
motorboat into the water a few yards from the damaged store."He didn't even think,"Chris
recalls.“He just reacted.”
