In the heart of the city lies a local market, a place that offers a special shopping experience different from supermarkets. For many families, a Saturday trip to this market has become a tradition.
The market is divided into many different sections, and each offers its own specialties (特色商品). In the fresh produce area, farmers like Mr. Chen sell fruits and vegetables that are directly picked from their gardens. Unlike in supermarkets where produce is often prepackaged, customers here can even taste a cherry tomato or a piece of cucumber to see whether it is fresh or not. The bakery section, managed by Mr. Johnson, is located right next to the flower stalls (摊位). It fills the air with the warm smell of freshly baked bread and attracts many visitors every morning. For those interested in crafts, the handmade section shows plenty of special items. Local skilled craftsmen, some of whom are also part-time farmers, show their works here, such as delicate wooden toys and bamboo baskets. This area is quite popular with tourists who look for souvenirs.
Each family member finds something to enjoy. Children are often attracted to the bright flowers at Mrs. Lee’s stall, while parents discuss the best ingredients for the week’s meals with the friendly sellers. This direct interaction between buyers and sellers is a key feature of the market, creating a sense of community.
After finishing their shopping, many families choose to relax at a nearby cafe. They enjoy a drink and talk about what they’ve bought. The market is more than just a place to buy things; it serves as a social center where people connect, and a tradition that brings families together over the shared joy of fresh, local goods.

Fiona and Nora missed some things about living in the countryside. One of the things they missed most about their old farmhouse was a place for the garden. Last summer, they had grown some tomatoes by themselves.
One afternoon, Fiona, Nora and Mom went to the park. On their way there, Nora noticed something that looked like a tree on the top of the building beside her. She shouted happily, “That looks like a tree on the roof!” Fiona and Mom saw the fantastic view, too. “You’re right, Nora,” said Fiona, “I think there’s in fact a garden up there! I can see a trellis (棚,架) from some flowers and some pots.”
“It looks like they have a roof garden,” said Mom, “I’ve heard of them, but I’ve never seen one before. People in cities sometimes use the space on the top of their buildings for gardening.”
“Can we start one on the roof of our building, Mom?” asked Fiona. Mom replied, “We’ll have to check the rules in our community first. But I don’t think it will be a problem. I’ve seen a family take a picnic there.”
“I believe people would not mind us giving them some fresh air.” Nora smiled, “From this experience I understand sometimes we just have to look a little harder to find what we’re looking for in life.”

How would you feel if someone decided to take away your park? Well, that’s what’s happening in my community. There’s a park that some people want to turn into a golf course (高尔夫球场). Let me tell you why I think it’s a bad idea.
First, a park is meant to be for the whole community. Not everyone likes golf, so not everyone will get to use the course. This isn’t fair. A community park should have open spaces for everyone to use.
Second, to make way for the golf course, lots of playground equipment (设施) will have to be moved or broken down, which is a waste of time and money.
Third, not all kids are crazy about golf. At the moment, the park has a skating place and a playground. These attract lots of kids from the community. If you turn the park into a golf course, this means these kids will stay at home and turn on a video game rather than get some exercise. It also means that they might be out on the street causing trouble. Wouldn’t it be better to give them something to do at the park?
Finally, golf is expensive. Building a golf course and maintaining (维护) it will cost a lot of money. Who is going to pay to maintain the golf course? What about those people who can’t afford to join a golf club? That means that the golf course will only be available to people with lots of money.
Turning our park into a golf course is a bad idea. I suggest we have a community meeting before plans go any further.
1.Some people want to change the park into ________.
A.a golf club B.a golf course
C.a zoo D.a skating place
2.According to Paragraph 4, having nowhere to go will make some children ________.
A.go to get some exercise B.fall in love with golf
C.play video games at home D.go to the street and make friends
3.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? (P= Paragraph)
A. B.C. D.
4.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A.To help carry out further plans.
B.To make the park more beautiful.
C.To encourage children to go skating.
D.To stop the golf course from being built.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D 4.D

Recently, community canteens (食堂) have become popular among young people.
At first, community canteens mostly served old people. As the elderly may face challenges in cooking, and many young people cannot cook, these canteens have become perfect places for the two generations to become meal friends.
Getting cheap meals
For only 20 yuan, Fang Wenjing, who works in the training industry (行业) in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, ordered a well-balanced lunch at a community canteen in the city. It included a meat dish, a vegetable dish and a bowl of rice.
“The dishes have a home-cooked taste, just as I expected. The canteen is also clean,” said Fang.
Bringing more surprises
Community canteens meet the dining habits of young people in a number of ways. For example, the vegetarian (素食的) restaurants in Hangzhou have meals including a main dish, a bowl of rice, soup, fruit salad, and a side dish. Hu Yifan, head of the canteen, said 70 percent of its customers are young people.
A canteen at the Zhanongkou Community in Zhejiang province recently introduced “happiness mystery boxes”. They cost just 6 yuan but have one meat dish and a vegetarian dish. To keep what’s inside each box a surprise, stickers (贴纸) are placed over the see-through top to cover the “main dish”. The “mystery boxes” often sell out very quickly.
The canteen in Beijing’s Lugu Community in Shijingshan district even introduced self-service meals. The buffet-style (自助式的) dishes there are priced at just 2.48 yuan per 100 grams. This price is lower than the restaurants nearby. The canteen has attracted many customers in and out of the neighborhood.
“While it’s a community canteen, it can just as easily be described as a Western restaurant. It is beautifully designed. The environment is fantastic and super clean.” Dazhong Dianping user “Cuzhuangqieluoli 66” commented (评价) on one of the canteens.
1.Who are the main customers of the community canteens according to the article?
A.Elderly people only. B.Young people only.
C.Both elderly and young people. D.Children only.

A.Dishes with a home-cooked taste. B.Buffet-style meals.

4.What attracts “Cuzhuangqieluoli 66” to enjoy the community canteen?
A.Its low price. B.Its convenience.
C.Its well-balanced meals. D.Its dining environment.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.B 4.D
【导语】本文主要介绍了现在社区食堂变得越来越受欢迎。
1.细节理解题。根据“As the elderly may face challenges in cooking, and many young people cannot cook, these canteens have become perfect places for the two generations to become meal friends.”可知,社区食堂的客户主要是老年人和年轻人。故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据“Hu Yifan, head of the canteen, said 70 percent of its customers are young people.”可知,胡一凡的饭店吸引了很多年轻客户。故选B。
3.细节理解题。根据“The canteen in Beijing’s Lugu Community in Shijingshan district even introduced self-service meals.”以及“The canteen has attracted many customers in and out of the neighborhood.”可知,文中明确提到石景山区的鹿谷社区食堂引进了自助式餐点服务,吸引了社区内外的很多消费者。故选B。
4.细节理解题。根据“While it’s a community canteen, it can just as easily be described as a Western restaurant. It is beautifully designed. The environment is fantastic and super clean.”可知,评论主要提到了食堂的设计美观,环境优越,非常干净,这些都与餐厅的环境有关,故选D。

With devices (设备) that can be automatically (自动地) controlled from anywhere, a smart home offers convenience to its owners. These devices can be connected with each other through the internet, allowing the user to control functions, such as security access (安全访问), lighting and temperature.
“Haitangxiaozhen”, an internet user from Xuzhou, Jiangsu, shared his experience of setting up a smart home. He first bought the service of “intelligent networking”, meaning that fiber optic cables (延伸光纤电缆) can be extended (延伸) to every room. It’s the foundation for the use of digital products in homes. He then can use an app to control various smart home devices.
He said that he usually gets off work late, so cooking used to be a big problem. But now, cooked rice waits for him at home because he can turn on the rice cooker with his phone in advance. During summer, he usually turns on the air conditioner (空调) 30 minutes before getting home. He can also check the security camera at the door anytime through his phone in case he forgets whether he has locked the door or not. It’s very convenient for him.
During winter and summer holidays, when his child was alone at home, he used to worry about safety problems. For this reason, he specially installed a smart camera. With it, he can check if his child is OK at any time. His home also has a kitchen safety set, including smoke sensors, gas sensors and water sensors.
And these devices are really smart. They come with self-learning skills so they can learn the homeowner’s schedules and make changes as needed.
All these conveniences are making smart homes more and more popular both in China and around the world.
1.What does the word “foundation” in Paragraph 2 most likely mean in Chinese?
A.功能 B.发现 C.基础 D.扩展
2.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Why smart homes are common in Xuzhou.
B.How Haitangxiaozhen chooses different devices.
C.How smart home devices are connected with each other.
D.What Haitangxiaozhen can do with smart home devices.
3.Why did user Haitangxiaozhen set up a smart camera at home?
A.To help him lock the door. B.To keep an eye on his child.
C.To keep his kitchen safe. D.To make it easier to use his phone.
4.Which question does Paragraph 5 answer?
A.How do smart devices change people’s lives?

C.How do smart devices learn about different schedules?
D.Why should home devices be improved from time to time?

2.主旨大意题。根据“But now, cooked rice waits for him at home because he can turn on the rice cooker with his phone in advance. During summer, he usually turns on the air conditioner (空调) 30 minutes before getting home. He can also check the security camera at the door anytime through his phone in case he forgets whether he has locked the door or not.”可知,第三段主要讲的是Haitangxiaozhen通过手机应用使用智能家居设备做什么。故选D。
3.细节理解题。根据“when his child was alone at home, he used to worry about safety problems. For this reason, he specially installed a smart camera. With it, he can check if his child is OK at any time.”可知,他安装摄像头是为了照看他的孩子。故选B。
4.推理判断题。根据“And these devices are really smart. They come with self-learning skills so they can learn the homeowner’s schedules and make changes as needed.”可知,设备很智能并具有自学技能,因此可以学习房主的日程并根据需要进行更改,所以本段是回答“智能设备是如何了解不同日程的?”这一问题。故选C。

The word “low-carbon” sounds familiar to most of us. But do you know “low-carbon community (低碳社区)”? What is the community like? What benefits (好处) will it bring to our environment? Let’s have a look at Hanbei Road Community of Ya’an, Sichuan Province.
Walking into the community, people can see the hanging environmental slogans (环保标语) at first sight. And the most eye-catching items are idle bins (闲置物品投放箱) around. Many people in the community would give their idle things into the bins. Xu Juan, a mother of two, once put a pair of gloves there. “I think it’s meaningful to help others.”
In order to encourage more people to join in the “low-carbon” activity, the community introduced a reward program. Anyone can get some points if he/she gives idle things or takes part in volunteer activities. With certain points, people can exchange things in the “low-carbon supermarket” in the community.
There is also an “exchange corner” in the community. People can exchange their idle things (except the living things) with others. If he/she is not interested in any idle things in the corner, he/she can donate (捐赠) his/her things to poor families in the community.
“We are trying to make the best use of idle things by free exchange and donation. We hope all the people in our community can live low-carbon life,” said Wang Lu, leader of Hanbei Road Community.
1.What is Hanbei Road Community like?
A.A community with many poor families. B.A community with waste everywhere.

3.What CANNOT be exchanged in the community?

4.What does Wang Lu hope for their community in the last paragraph?
A.People should donate all their used things.
B.There will be more idle bins than dustbins.
C.All the people in their community are living low-carbon life now.
D.People can live low-carbon life by making the best use of idle things.

A Quick Guide to Tidying Your Home
Living in a dirty home is not fun . It means you’ll spend a lot of time looking for things and cleaning your home. 1 Here we will provide you with some helpful tips for tidying your home.
Ask yourself questions.
Marie thinks people should ask if something “brings joy”. Joshua Becker tells people to hold each thing in their hand and ask, “Do I need this?” 2 The point is to consider the things in your home with a critical eye and question their reasons for being there.
3
Professional organizer Breininger uses a 5-point “mess scale (衡量)” to decide whether an object should stay at home; things that must be there, things used daily, things used from time to time, things seldom used but you want to keep, things never used. With the scale, it becomes easier to clean out unwanted things.
Deal with unwanted things responsibly.
Make clear what can be given away to friends, or to charity, set beside the road for free taking, or resold through online marketplaces or a yard sale. Always clean those things before selling, and try to repair them if possible. 4
Build new rules.
5 While people like to have more in case one day the things are needed, it leads to mess and disorder. A better way is to keep one of each thing you need. You’ll always know where it is because there are fewer things in the house with certain places.
A.Build a sorting method.
B.One excellent rule is “one in, one out”.
C.Pull everything out.

1.What did Fiona and Nora miss most about their old farmhouse?
A.The fresh air. B.The friendly neighbors.
C.The place for the garden. D.The view in the countryside.
2.According to the text, which of the following might they see?
A. B. C. D.

4.What will they most probably do next?

A.Its low price. B.Its convenience.

A.How do smart devices change people’s lives?
B.Why do people call these devices “smart devices”?
C.How do smart devices learn about different schedules?
D.Why should home devices be improved from time to time?

The apartments we live in are “growing up”! On March 9, the government said that the minimum ceiling height (最低住宅层高) will be raised from 2.8 meters to 3 meters.
What difference will the 20 centimeters make? 1 Higher ceilings allow for bigger windows, making lighting better and letting more fresh air enter the apartment.
Today, apartment buildings usually have things like underfloor heating (地暖) and soundproofing (隔音) to provide a better living experience. 2 Raising the ceiling height can help solve this problem.
In 2000, the average (平均) height of Chinese men is about 167.7 centimeters. 3 Someone who is 184 cm tall can reach up to 2.26 meters with their arm raised. In a room with a low ceiling, they can almost touch it.
4 According to CCTV, some cities like Tianjin have already included rules to raise the ceiling height to between 3 and 3.3 meters in the past few years. But other cities aren’t the same.
5 This shows that living standards have largely improved. The government has introduced many policies (政策) to support people’s happiness.

D.Rubbish should be the last way.
E.It means you can’t relax fully in your home.
F.Ask your family for help.
G.Choose the question or way that works best for you.
