They are one of the most influential people of today’s world. With practical advantages in engineering, medicine, and technology, they have helped us to grow better understanding about the world and different working phenomenon that governs us. Their names are remembered in the sands of time for their work in the welfare of mankind with different inventions that has made our modern lives easy. Here is a list of the four great scientists we’ve ever seen who changed the world. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) Pasteur contributed greatly towards the advancement of medical sciences developing cures for rabies, anthrax and other infectious diseases. He also invented the process of pasteurization(加热杀菌法)to make milk safer to drink. He probably saved more lives than any other person. Otto Hahn (1879-1968) Hahn was a German chemist who discovered nuclear fission(裂变)in 1939. He was a pioneering scientist in the field of radio-chemistry, and discovered radioactive elements in 1921. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1944. Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) Tesla worked on electro-magnetism and AC current. He obtained around 300 patents worldwide for his inventions from electricity to radio transmission, but many inventions developed by Tesla were not put into patent protection. He played a key role in the development of modern electricity. James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) Maxwell made great progress in understanding electro-magnetism. His research in electricity and kinetics laid the foundation for quantum(量子)physics. Einstein said of Maxwell, “The work of James Clerk Maxwell changed the world forever.” 21. What contribution did Louis Pasteur make to society? A. The development of medicine. B. Radio-chemistry. C. Modern electricity. D. Quantum physics. 22. Who was thought highly of by Einstein? A. Louis Pasteur. B. Otto Hahn. C. Nikola Tesla. D. James Clerk Maxwell. 23. What can we infer about the four people? A. They are medical pioneers. B. They are Nobel Prize winners. C. They are great contributors to society. D. They are founders of modern physics. B Our family sat around the dining table, trying hard to think of an idea. We wanted to make a scarecrow (稻草人) to enter it into the 2024 Scarecrow Festival. The scarecrow festival had started during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, in an attempt to lift people’s spirits. It was a hit, and had become an annual event, getting bigger each year, with around 50 scarecrows being entered in 2023. As well as the scarecrow display, dotted along a 14km section of road, there are market stalls, games, food and entertainment. And all the money made goes back into community projects. The scarecrows are judged on different categories, such as the funniest and the most traditional. “Why don’t we make Crowgun this year?” Pearl, my elder son, suggested. The idea was a nod to Australian breakdancer (霹雳舞者) Rachael Louise Gunn, 37, who became famous after her performance in the 2024 Paris Olympics. “That’s a great idea,” I said. We bought a parachute sports suit from a second-hand store and filled it with hay. Shaping Crowgun into a break-dancing pose was challenging — metal wires hidden inside let us twist its arms and legs upside down. As we were carefully adjusting its break-dancing pose, the kids couldn’t help but burst into laughter. On festival day, over 50 scarecrows lined the 14km road. Our Crowgun was there among them, standing next to figures like Marilyn Monroe, a huge spider. Pearl got a little scared when she saw the hairy legs of the spider, but she couldn’t help smiling at how energetic our Crowgun looked. Neighbors chatted at food stalls while kids played games nearby. When Crowgun won “the Funniest Scarecrow,” we cheered excitedly. Pearl’s face lit up with joy as I praised his clever idea. Now, we’re thinking about next year’s design. This festival proves even small towns can create big joy. To other rural communities: try something similar! Laughter and teamwork truly bring people together. 24. Why was the scarecrow festival originally started? A. To compete with neighboring towns’ affairs. B. To raise funds for rebuilding homes after disasters. C. To promote local sports clubs like the cricket team. D. To uplift the community during COVID-19 and hardships. 25. What made the family finally choose to create “Crowgun”? A. Pearl’s creative idea offering a fresh twist. B. Their aim to celebrate the 2024 Paris Olympics. C. Their desire to honor a famous athlete. D. Breakdancing scarecrows being easier to make. 26. What do the community members think of the festival? A. They consider it as overly competitive. B. They prefer fundraising to creativity. C. They prefer smaller, simpler affairs. D. They value it as a unifying and joyful tradition. 27. What message does the text convey? A. Sports-themed events are essential for rural towns. B. Creativity and teamwork can strengthen small communities. C. Children’s ideas always lead to success in competitions. D. Traditional scarecrow designs are losing popularity. C We all know that a powerful body posture (姿势) may help people feel more confident. But will it work on students? A new study by researchers from the Martin Luther University (MLU) of Halle-Wittenberg is carried out to find the connection. And it does provide evidence that simple body postures can help students feel better in school. Some body postures don’t need further explanation. When a man sits with his arms crossed behind his head, resting his feet on a table, he is probably feeling very self-confident. Arms folded in front of one’s body and a bent back, on the other hand, typically mean anxiety and insecurity “Body language is not just about expressing feelings, it can also have a great influence on how a person feels,” explains Robert Körner from the Institute of Psychology at MLU. Research on powerful body postures tries to find out the extent to which a certain body posture might influence a person’s feelings and self-confidence. Up to now, most of the research has been about studying the effects on adults. Körner’s study is the first to examine children. “Children from the age of five are able to recognize and understand the body postures of others,” the professor adds. The researchers carried out their experiment with 108 fourth graders. One group was to assume (装出) two open postures for one minute each. The other group posed with their arms folded in front of them and their heads down. The children then finished a series of psychological tests. The children who had assumed an open posture showed better moods and reported higher self-confidence than the children in the other group. The effects were particularly manifest when it came to questions concerning school. “Here, powerful body postures had the strongest effect on the children’s self-confidence,” says Körner. “Teachers could try and see whether this method helps their students.” However, Körner states that expectations about this technique should be mild. The effects were only short-term. Serious problems or mental illness must be treated by trained professionals. 28. Which of the following shows a person may feel uneasy according to Paragraph 2? A. One rests his head on the table. B. One seldom moves his feet in a conversation. C. One folds his arms before his body with a bent back. D. One crosses his arms behind his head and lies on the sofa. 29. What is the new research on powerful body postures mainly about? A. What the most popular postures are. B. How children’s postures differ from adults’. C. Why body language can express a person’s feelings. D. What effects postures have on students’ feelings. 30. What does the underlined word “manifest” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Strange. B. Obvious. C. Unclear. D. Manageable. 31. What is Körner’s attitude to teachers’ applying the findings in teaching? A. Worried. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Supportive. D Many international students studying abroad in America have several supposed ideas about American culture. After visiting the country, many international students revealed the culture shocks they received in America. Here are some culture shocks in America that most of the international students came across. It’s surprising to note that kids, the youth, and adults refer to each other with their first names. This is a very uncommon sight to witness. Many international students might find it surprising and take time to adjust to this tradition. Another culture shock is that in the USA there could be only one or two classes a day. Usually, they’re conducted in the afternoon or the evening. This means the students get enough time to sleep late, wake up around noon, and have time for different chores. Besides having convenience in the schedule of classes, students also enjoy long hours of break. Among the many culture shocks in America, multiple languages are quite common here. Many international students would move to the USA believing that the only language is English. However, that’s not the case. The citizens commonly speak languages such as Spanish, French, German, Chinese and others. So if you’re comfortable in any of the above-mentioned languages, you might get surprises. Many international students are accustomed to the kilograms, metres, litres, degrees centigrade as the units of weight, length, volume, temperature, and so on. But they might be perplexed to see a different metric system in the USA. Here pounds, feet, and Fahrenheit (华氏温标) are usually used as units for measurements. This system is quite puzzling to comprehend at the beginning for many international students. The people in the USA are known to be open-minded, helpful and friendly. Many international students might find various culture shocks in America depending on the background they come from. However, the friendliness and social conduct of Americans make it easy for international students to adjust to their environment. 32. What may make international students surprised at school? A. Adults are often referred to with their titles. B. Kids refer to adults with their family names. C. The number of classes is fewer than expected. D. Students can freely do different chores in the classes. 33. Why needn’t international students worry about language barriers in America? A. Because English is the only language here. B. Because many languages are spoken here. C. Because there are several other official languages. D Because all international students can speak English. 34. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “perplexed” in paragraph 5? A. Shocked. B. Confused. C. Frightened. D. Excited. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. Culture Shocks in America You Must Know! B. Multicultural Experiences Are Waiting for You! C. International Students Are Welcome to America! D. Why Are There So Many Culture Shocks in the USA? Laughter is the best medicine. For most students, it was a day of excitement and joy, but for me, it was just another event I wanted to avoid. I had always been the type to shy away from group activities, preferring the company of my books and thoughts. Our class monitor, Sarah, noticed my unwillingness. She was the very image of enthusiasm and leadership, always trying to bring the class together. One day, she approached me during lunch. “Why don’t you join us for the relay race? It’ll be fun,” she said with a warm smile. I hesitated, but her persistence was hard to ignore. The next day, Sarah organized a practice session. I unwillingly joined, feeling out of place among my more athletic classmates. As we ran, I tripped and fell, scraping (擦伤) my knee. Embarrassed, I wanted to quit, but Sarah was there in an instant, offering a hand and words of encouragement. “It’s okay, we’re a team,” she said. At this time, other fellow classmates came to encourage me. Their kindness made me feel less alone. As the days went by, I found myself looking forward to the practices. The care and support among my classmates was infectious. I began to see the value of teamwork and the joy of shared experiences. My initial unwillingness melted away, replaced by a newfound sense of belonging. The anticipation for the sports day filled me with excitement. I dream of the cheers, the applauding crowd, and the thrill of competition. Training hard, I longed to showcase my skills, push my limits, share and feel the joy of victory. This event was more than a game; it means a lot for me. I could not wait to be part of it! The day I looked forward to came eventually. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Our opponent winning narrowly, I blamed our failure on myself. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025—2026学年高二上学期期中考试卷 完卷时间:120分钟 满分:150分 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 What does the woman hurry to do? One day last week, I was walking back to my home and I passed an old lady who seemed to be in trouble. I turned back and asked if she was okay. She explained that she was sick and had to struggle to walk with her shopping bags. I offered to carry her things and walked her back home but she refused because she didn’t want to give me any trouble. I told her it didn’t matter and her home was on my way home. It was a white lie. As I walked with her, she talked with me and introduced herself. I in turn told her my name. She asked if I knew Ray Robert. I was shocked and said, “Yes, that was my dad.” It turned out this lady was my dad’s neighbor, who had looked after my dad when my grandmother died thirty years ago. My dad had often spoken of her, but I had never met her as she had moved away with her family. It was a lovely moment for both of us. When I got home and told my dad about the incident, it made him cry. I was so moved. I am glad that my small, active kindness ended in a chance meeting that meant so much to the two people. A The advancement of human civilization is possible just because of enormous contribution made by scientists. D 25. A 26. D 27. 根据第二段“The scarecrow festival had started during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, in an attempt to lift people’s spirits.(稻草人节始于2020年新冠肺炎疫情期间,旨在提振人们的精神。)” 根据第四段““Why don’t we make Crowgun this year?” Pearl, my elder son, suggested. The idea was a nod to Australian breakdancer (霹雳舞者) Rachael Louise Gunn, 37, who became famous after her performance in the 2024 Paris Olympics.(“我们今年为什么不做Crowgun呢?”我的大儿子Pearl建议道。这个想法是为了向37岁的澳大利亚霹雳舞者Rachael Louise Gunn致敬,她在2024年巴黎奥运会上的表演让她一举成名。)”可知,让这个家族最终选择创造“Crowgun”是因为Pearl的创意带来了新鲜的变化。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“When Crowgun won “the Funniest Scarecrow,” we cheered excitedly. Pearl’s face lit up with joy as I praised his clever idea.(当Crowgun赢得“最滑稽稻草人”奖时,我们兴奋地欢呼起来。当我称赞Pearl这个聪明的想法时,他的脸上洋溢着喜悦。)”和最后一段“This festival proves even small towns can create big joy. To other rural communities: try something similar! Laughter and teamwork truly bring people together.(这个节日证明,即使是小城镇也能创造出巨大的欢乐。我想对其他农村社区说:试试类似的活动吧!欢笑和团队合作确实能把人们凝聚在一起。)”可知,本文传达的信息是创造力和团队合作能够增强小型社区的凝聚力。故选B。 C We all know that a powerful body posture (姿势) may help people feel more confident. A. Worried. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Supportive. C 29. D 30. B 31. 根据第二段的“Arms folded in front of one’s body and a bent back, on the other hand, typically mean anxiety and insecurity(不安全感). (另一方面,双臂交叉放在身体前面,背部弯曲,通常意味着焦虑和不安全感)”可知,一个人弯着腰,双臂交叉在身前表明这个人觉得不舒适。故选C项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的“Research on powerful body postures tries to find out the extent to which a certain body posture might influence a person’s feelings and self-confidence. (对强有力的身体姿势的研究试图找出某种身体姿势可能在多大程度上影响一个人的感觉和自信)”和第四段的“The researchers carried out their experiment with 108 fourth graders. (研究人员对108名四年级学生进行了实验)”可知,对强有力的身体姿势的新研究主要关于身体姿势如何影响学生的情感。故选D项。 【30题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线词的上文“The children who had assumed an open posture showed better moods and reported higher self-confidence than the children in the other group. (采取开放姿态的孩子比另一组的孩子表现出更好的情绪和更高的自信)”和下文““Here, powerful body postures had the strongest effect on the children’s self-confidence,” says Körner. (“在这里,有力的身体姿势对孩子们的自信有最大的影响,”Körner说。)”可知,相比之下,采取开放姿态的孩子表现出更好的心情和更高的自信,在学校中这种影响特别大。因此可推断,这一结果当涉及学习问题时是显而易见的。故选B项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““Teachers could try and see whether this method helps their students.” However, Körner states that expectations about this technique should be mild. The effects were only short-term. Serious problems or mental illness must be treated by trained professionals. (“老师们可以试着看看这种方法是否能帮助他们的学生。”然而,Körner指出,对这种手段的期望应该是温和的。这些影响只是短期的。严重的问题或精神疾病必须由训练有素的专业人员治疗)”可知,虽然Körner推荐老师们尝试该方法,但也提醒不能期望过高,严重的问题仍需交给专业人员处理。因此可推断,Körner处在一个中立的立场上。故选C项。 D Many international students studying abroad in America have several supposed ideas about American culture. D. Because all international students can speak English. C 33. B 34. B 35. 根据后文“we had leftover plants, Denise or I would stick them out front”可知,此处引导时间状语从句,强调“有剩余植物”的时间节点,Whenever“每当”符合逻辑,此处指无论何时有剩余的植物,都会种在前面。 A. passed通过;B. build建造;C. reused重新使用;D. reached到达。根据后文“the end of the rock garden”可知,此处指作者走到岩石花园的尽头。 A. patiently耐心地;B. possibly可能地;C. immediately立即;D. carefully仔细地。根据后文“We decided to let it continue growing until we could”可知,起初无法“立刻”识别,需后续观察确认,此处指作者无法立即认出这株植物。 A. put out扑灭;B. figure out弄清楚;C. take out取出;D. think out想出。 A. area区域;B. corner角落;C. flower花;D. plant植物。根据上文“found a tiny little plant”可知,此处指回到那株神秘的植物前。 A. decided决定;B. refused拒绝;C. forgot忘记;D. preferred更喜欢。根据后文“to take care of it and pull the weeds around it”可知,照顾它并拔掉它周围的杂草,这是作者的决定。故选A。 A. covered覆盖;B. broke打破;C. pulled拉,移动,拖拽;D. cut切割。根据后文“rocks from the area to get to the weeds”可知,需“移开”石头才能接触到杂草,pulled此处表示“拖拽,移动”,符合实际动作逻辑。 根据后文“The sunflower had not ____ where I saw the stalk begin. It actually had begun ____ a big rock and grown under and around it to reach the ____ .” A. started开始;B. moved移动;C. arrived到达;D. stopped停止。根据后文“It actually had begun ____ a big rock and grown under and around it to reach the ____ .” 故选A。 A. beside在旁边;B. above在上方;C. under在下面;D. near靠近。根据后文“a big rock and grown under and around it”可知,向日葵实际上最初是从石头“下面”开始生长。 A. level水平;B. ground地面;C. sun太阳,阳光;D. air空气。根据“grown under and around it to reach the”和常识可知,向日葵需要阳光来生长,所以此处指接触到阳光。 A. remembered记得;B. realized意识到;C. wrote写;D. considered考虑。根据后文“that if a tiny little sunflower didn’t let a big rock stand in its way”可知,向日葵不让一块大石头挡住它发展的道路,所以此处指作者意识到了向日葵的顽强精神。 A. advancing前进;B. improving改善;C. appearing出现;D. developing发展,生长。根据上文“a big rock stand in its way of”可知,此处指向日葵努力生长,不让岩石挡住它生长的道路。 A. believe in相信;B. help out帮助摆脱困境;C. depend on依靠;D. care for关心。根据后文“ourselves knowing we can find a way”可知,作者感悟到需要相信自己能找到克服困难的方法。故选A。 Xu Beihong’s paintings best indicate his personality: patriotic, diligent and humanistic. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: The day I looked forward to came eventually. The air buzzed with cheers as our relay team stepped onto the track. I was seized by tension and unease, my palms sweating constantly. Sarah patted me on my shoulders, giving me encouragement with an inspiring look. A sense of determination crowding in, I raised my head confidently. When the whistle blew, I dashed like an arrow. But my competitors ran rather fast. My teammates’ shouts urged me forward. What made me frustrated was that I didn’t catch up with them. I was the last one to hand over the baton. Our opponent winning narrowly, I blamed our failure on myself. “If I’d run faster, we could have won.” I murmured, burying my head, with tears of guilt rolling down my checks. Approaching me. Sara said firmly, “We all gave our best!” The team gathered around, echoing her words. So warm was I that I felt incredibly comforted. Later, we shared snacks under a tree, encouraging each other to do it better next year. We were overwhelmed with joy, broad smiles lighting up our faces. It was then that I realized victory wasn’t just about medals; it was the courage to try and the bonds we’d built. Sports Day had taught me to cherish both. 词汇激活 行为类 ①走上赛道:stepped onto the track/walk onto the track/take to the track ②涌入:crowding in/flood in/rush in ③滚动而下:rolling down/stream down/flow down 情绪类 ①沮丧:frustrated/upset/dejected ②高兴:with joy/with excitement/with delight/excitedly 【点睛】[高分句型1] I was seized by tension and unease, my palms sweating constantly.(运用了独立主格结构作状语) [高分句型2] What made me frustrated was that I didn’t catch up with them.(运用了what引导的主语从句和that引导的表语从句) [高分句型3] It was then that I realized victory wasn’t just about medals; it was the courage to try and the bonds we’d built.(运用了强调句型结构“it was+被强调部分+that”强调状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。 Can I put my books in your classroom for now?
