Afternoon tea was introduced in Britain in the early 19th century. It is a light meal to stop hunger before an evening meal. Typically eaten between 3:30 pm to 5 pm, it’s usually composed of sandwiches (usually cut delicately) scones (烤饼), sweet pastries (糕点), cakes and a pot of tea.
