Wang Zi, from Beijing, loves mime (哑剧). He has practiced the art for nine years and got a prize (奖) at the Wuzhen Theater Festival. 41 He performs by using body language instead of words. Sometimes it’s a two-hour-long show with a whole story, and sometimes it’s a short story in life. In a word, his show is so great. In fact, Wang prefers to show short stories to people. 42 In his opinion, there are two reasons for that. First, he loves short stories. Second, he is the freest when he performs them.
“Miming is a very free form of art for both the actors and the audience (观众),” he said. “ 43 Miming is all about using your imagination, and that’s what makes it so attractive.”
Actors also need to have good acting skills, of course.
“ 44 But it requires years of training to make your body expressive,” Wang explained. To improve his shows, he has borrowed skills from other art forms like voice stunts (口技). Several years ago, when Wang finished studying in the Performance Institute of Beijing Film Academy, he became interested in miming. 45 Then he taught himself and later started the Nadading Troupe (表演团). The troupe is said to be Beijing’s only mime troupe. You can’t find another one in Beijing.
A.Do you know why?
B.Everyone knows how to speak.
C.You’ll be excited after you watch his mime show.
D.However, he couldn’t find a teacher to learn from.

China has become the world’s largest producer and market of EVs (电动汽车). According to a report, 9.58 million Chinese-made EVs were produced and 9.49 million were sold in 2023. Among the total sales, 1.2 million EVs were exported (出口).
The Chinese government has been encouraging EVs as part of its effort for green and high-quality development. As a result, China’s EV industry develops very quickly. A herd of elephants are migrating.
It’s true that “elephants never forget”. Their memory is just one part of their amazing abilities, making them among the most social, creative, and caring animals on Earth.
Elephants remember every member of their herd and can recognize up to 30 companions (同伴) by sight or smell. This is a great help when they migrate (迁徙) or meet other unfriendly elephants. They also recall dangers and find important places years later.
However, elephants remember more than how to stay alive. Elephants remember humans and animals they met long ago. Scientists believe their huge brains—the largest of any land animal—help explain this. They even have their own “language” for communication and create “art” by arranging colorful objects with their trunks.
The most touching part is their emotional intelligence (情商). Elephants are the only non-human animals to mourn the death of their own kind, gently touching bones and standing silently for hours. They also show care to other species: one working elephant refused to drop a log where a dog slept. Meanwhile, elephants that met injured humans sometimes stayed nearby and gently touched them with their trunks to comfort them.
These discoveries teach us about animal intelligence. As poet John Donne said, elephants are “nature’ s great masterpiece”. Protecting them means protecting the wonder of life on Earth.
53.How many companions can elephants recognize by sight or smell?
A.10. B.20. C.30. D.40.
54.What does the underlined word “mourn” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Play with bones.B.Feel sad for the dead.C.Protect their home. D.Hunt for food.
55.What is the text mainly about?
A.Why elephants need protection. B.Elephants’ memory and emotional intelligence.
C.How elephants communicate with humans. D.The dangers elephants face in the wild.
【答案】53.C 54.B 55.B
【导语】本文主要介绍了大象出色的记忆力、创造力和情感智力,以及保护它们对地球生命的重要意义。

VII. 任务型阅读:(共5小题, 计10分)
阅读下面的语篇材料,根据所读内容,完成下列各题。
You may know about “junk (垃圾) food” like French fries. But do you know about “junk sleep”? Just as junk food harms the body, junk sleep silently weakens the mind and health of teenagers.
A British survey shows that there are many electronic products in teenagers’ bedrooms. They are influencing teenagers’ sleep badly.
The survey was done among 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16. It is found that 50% of them got just 4 to 7 hours’ sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost 25% of the kids said they often fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
“This is very worrying”, said Dr. Chris, a British professor (教授). “We call it ‘junk sleep’. It means you don’t get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is low, too.” The survey found that quite a few of the kids felt exhausted each day because of the junk sleep, especially girls between 13 and 16. Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, music player or TV in their bedrooms. And lots of them even have all the three.
Dr. Chris suggested that teenagers should spend less time on the electronic products. Simple steps like setting a “digital curfew (数码宵禁)” one hour before bedtime or charging devices (给设备充电) outside bedrooms can make a significant difference.

72.根据“Almost 25% of the kids said they often fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.”可知,第四段提到有些孩子在看电视或听音乐时睡着,与图片情境相符。故填Four/4。
73.根据“The survey found that quite a few of the kids felt exhausted each day because of the junk sleep, especially girls between 13 and 16.”可知,这一句是说“调查发现,由于垃圾睡眠,相当多的孩子每天都感到筋疲力尽,尤其是13至16岁的女孩”,因此“exhausted”表示“疲劳的”。故填exhausted。

At Auto (汽车) China 2004, BYD was the only company showing EVs there. At Auto China 2024, there were 278 different EV models on show, including BYD, SAIC, Geely, Li Auto, Nio, Xpeng and other brands.
China’s EV industry is now facing both challenges and chances. It’s reported that 71% of EV brands cut prices in 2023. EV makers without the creativity will face growing risks. In order to be both green and smart, Chinese EV makers are trying hard to improve technologies like battery (电池) qualities and AI support. At the same time, the government is adding even more charging points (充电站). On the other hand, more Chinese people begin to pay attention to the environmental problems. It is encouraging more buyers to choose EVs.
EVs are the way of the future. In an ideal world, everyone benefits from new inventions and green transport. Some countries might get there sooner than others, and will gain greater rewards. It is very likely that China will hold the lead.
