小作文
Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter asking my advice on how to make up your friendship with Jack.
Here are my suggestions. First, it is important to know even best friends may have a conflict, so don’t feel upset about it. Then, it will help you much if you can talk with Jack and find out what the problem really is. If he wouldn’t like to talk to you, you can consider writing a letter to him.
As to the way you express yourself, I suggest you do so in a friendly way, or it will make things worse. Hope my suggestions will be of help to you.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,

Just at that moment, many memories came back Into my mind. When I was ill, she was always the one taking care of me. When I had trouble with my study, she never lost faith in me and encouraged me to keep going. When I arrived home during the weekend, she always prepared my favorite food. All her kindness came back to me. I should be grateful for all she had done for me. I realized I should go back home immediately and say sorry to my mother.
When arriving home, I saw my mother sitting at the dinner table, worried and tired. She must have been looking for me everywhere. I was ready for her anger and shouts. However, before I could apologize, my mother saw me and gently said,“Oh honey, thank God you're back! Come inside. You are probably very hungry? I cooked your favorite noodles, come and eat while they are still hot ..." No longer able to control myself, I cried in her arms. “I'm sorry, mom. Please forgive me."I whispered to her through tears, extremely ashamed of myself.

William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋)—these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family.
Most of their trips seem far from relaxing—cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.”
However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore, the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.
Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.
24.How can we describe the Lindesay’s trips?
A.Pleasant. B.Challenging. C.Relaxing. D.Dangerous.
25.What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.avoid. B.visit. C.compare. D.evaluate.
26.What problem does the family meet when traveling?
A.They suffer from a tight budget.
B.They have scheduling conflicts.
C.They are faced with language barriers.
D.They hold different educational ideas.
27.Which statement may Lindesay agree with according to the text?
A.Nothing is so necessary for travelers as languages.
B.There is no royal road to learning.
C.Actions speak louder than words.
D.Man who travels far knows more.

Growing up with movies such as “High School Musical” and “Grease”, which presented the ideal(理想的)high school friendships, we sometimes expect a perfect relationship. Indeed, some high school friendships can be real and simple; while still some high school students will meet a friend who causes trouble. With failed friendships come lessons and experiences learned for the future. You will know the influence after you leave high school.
“I was always worried about what my friends thought about me. Sometimes my friends would make fun of what I wore or what I would do. I always tried to get along well with them, but I realized how happy I was once I stopped contacting them after high school,” said Elisha, Class of 2020.
Most teens have not realized the big question when dealing with high school problems. In five years, will this still matter? It is hard looking at the big picture when the problems are in front of you, which is understandable. However, most teens need a moment to reflect (反思) and question if the problem matters in a long time.
Briana, a high school teacher, said, “Now, I am in contact with two high school friends. I think the friendship experiences I had in high school shaped who I am because I learned to be open minded and befriend all kinds of people. I learned to see people for who they are, not what they wear or who they play with. I learned most of all how to be a good friend.”
High school is a small part of your life, but it has a huge influence on who you will become and where you will go. Friendships and relationships help shape who you are, whether they are good or bad. Lessons are brought, and lessons are learned.
28. Why did the author mention the two movies in the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic of the passage.
B. To explain what a high school friendship is.
C. To recommend these two movies to readers.
D. To attract readers’ attention to these two movies.
29. What did Elisha think of her “friends”?
A. They made her unhappy. B. They cared about her behavior.
C. They got along well with her. D. They were always worried about her.
30. Why did Briana think her friendship experiences shape her?
A. She learned to play with her friends. B. She learned to make different friends.
C. She learned to shape her friends’ minds. D. She learned to wear just like her friends.
31. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. Failed friendships made teens worried.
B. Good friendships greatly influenced teens.
C. High school friendships help to shape teens.
D. Friendships are difficult for teens to deal with.

Change can be unsettling. Good or bad, exciting or unexpected, there’s an undeniable anxiety that accompanies seeing our lives shift. Thankfully, nature reminds us that entering a new season in our lives is nothing to fear but something to enjoy.
What’s now known as “leaf-peeping” has become a highly profitable form of tourism in the United States. A research shows that across states in the eastern half of the country, fall foliage (叶子) tourism contributes more than $30 billion to local economies. And even though climate change has made int more difficult to predict when exactly foliage will peak, it hasn’t stopped people from trying to figure it out. Tourism leaders from the Smoky Mountains recently released their annual fall foliage prediction map which helps travelers plan out when they have the best chance to catch those beautiful autumn views.
Perhaps part of what makes the foliage so special is the belief that it’s temporary. Eventually, branches will become bare, and we’ll stop taking photos for social media. And as the seasons change and we feel that familiar longing for what was, trees will once again embrace (欣然接受) their evolution.
Even when they aren’t decorated with flashy fall colors and their internal systems slow down, trees are still supporting the ecosystem. Their fallen leaves are broken down by bacteria and fungi and provide the soil with nutrients the tree needs to grow. Insects take up shelter in their bark, eventually becoming food for other wildlife seeking a place to nest. Their strong roots stabilize the soil, preventing erosion (侵蚀) from winter snowmelt.
Right now, trees around the country are already beginning to welcome their next chapter. During this time of the year, it feels like forests are just offering endless joy for free. And fall foliage is an everlasting reminder that the growth with changes is beautiful.
32.What does “leaf-peeping” refer to?
A.A form of tourism where people go to see fall foliage.
B.A measure taken by tourism leaders to protect trees.
C.A research about the effects of climate change on trees.
D.A method for predicting when fall foliage will peak.
33.Why do people find fall foliage so special?
A.It brings change to daily life. B.It contributes to local economy.
C.It helps preserve ecosystems. D.It lasts only for a short time.
34.What can we learn about trees in fall from paragraph 4?
A.They are easily damaged by bacteria.
B.They stop rooting due to cold weather.
C.They continue providing shelter for wildlife.
D.They play a role in reducing snowfall.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Trees Supporting the Ecosystem
B.Lesson from Trees: Embracing Change
C.Fall Foliage Tourism in the US
D.Climate Changes in the Season of Fall

That night, I quarreled with my mother, and then stormed out of the house. While on the road, I remembered that I did not have any money in my pocket. I did not even take my cell phone with me to make a call home.
At the same time, I went through a noodle shop, and I suddenly felt very hungry. I wished for a bowl of noodles, but I had no money!
The seller saw me standing before the counter and asked,“Hey little girl, you want to cat a bowl?”“But...but I do not carry money..."I shyly replied.
“Okay, I'll treat you." the seller said,“come in, I will cook you a bowl."
A few minutes later the owner brought me a steaming bowl of noodles. After eating some pieces, I cried.
“What is it?”He asked.
“Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness!” I said as I wiped my tears. “Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, and my mother, after a quarrel, chased me out of the house. She is cruel(残忍的)!”
The seller sighed,“Girl, why did you think so? Think again. I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you felt that way. Your mother has been taking care of you since you were little, why were you not grateful and why did you hurt your mom? You should say sorry to your mom."
I was really surprised after hearing that.
Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, and my mother has raised me since I was little and I have never felt so. not even a little.
