Learning in the field
A fun farming class took place in the fields! On September 15, Grade 7 students from Jinan No.34 Middle School, Shandong, went on a field trip. They learned about farming, reported Qilu News.
At the grain base (粮食基地), teachers talked about grains with students and answered their questions. The students saw millet and soybeans (小米和大豆). They touched the wheat (小麦) and learned that people usually harvest the wheat at the end of September.
“I wrote down all the nutrients such as proteins (蛋白质) in millet in my notebook,” said Dong Guangye. He learned that eating millet can be good for people’s health.
Other students also learned something new. “I knew about soybeans only from textbooks. This time, I saw real ones and learned how they grow,” said Fang Weiqian.
Before this, Ling Mingze thought that farming was something old. But this trip changed her ideas. “I saw really cool farming machines, and they showed me how farming changes and gets better,” said she.

2.What did the teachers do at the grain base?
3.When do people usually harvest the wheat?

Passage 2
(24-25七年级上·北京海淀·期末)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Skateboarding class has found its way into schools! For sixth grader Carlos Cervantes, learning to skateboard takes a lot of work, but it pays off. “On the first day of class, I thought skateboarding would be scary. But I tried it,” said the 12-year-old boy. “After two days’ practice, I felt more comfortable.”
Carlos is learning to skateboard in an after-school program at West Middle School in Colorado. PE teachers start their skateboarding classes by teaching students how to put on their safety gear (装备). Students then learn how to fall without getting hurt. And they start practicing. Sometimes they fall, but when they succeed, they smile heartily.
Skateboarding keeps kids engaged (参与) in physical movement. It is good for their health and gives them new skills and interests. It also teaches kids the life lesson that if they keep trying something, they will finally succeed. Students who are learning to skateboard often spend hours practicing a new trick before they get it right. “A baby will try to walk 600 to 900 times before he or she is successful,” the PE teacher Eric Klassen at West Middle School says. “We tell students that they shouldn’t say ‘I can’t do it’ unless they’ve tried 600 to 900 times.” And his students do take his advice to heart and keep practicing until they finally succeed.
PE teachers in many schools have started teaching classes such as skateboarding, yoga, and even rock climbing. These sports are called “the new PE”. They are often individual (个人的) sports. Schools teach “the new PE” to help fight childhood obesity (肥胖) and develop lifelong fitness habits. Students get a chance to exercise, whether they make it onto a school team or not.
1.What did Carlos Cervantes think of skateboarding on the first day of class?
2.How do PE teachers start their skateboarding classes at West Middle School?
3.Why do schools teach “the new PE”?
4.Would you like to take skateboarding class in your school? Why?

And Now, Schoolbags Online
Who wants to carry a heavy bag to school? Not children. Actually no one wants.
An American company called goReader created an online schoolbag. It’s the size of a laptop computer, weighing about 2.5 kg. The online schoolbag can “hold” all the textbooks a student may need, says a report in The Asian Age newspaper.
And now, goReader plans to work closely with the publishers (出版社) of textbooks so that the students can download (下载) their textbooks on the Internet. And they can also make notes just as they do on their textbooks now.
At present, the project is being tested out in a university. Richard Katzmann, the founder of the company is having his creation tested at Chicago’s DePaul University. Does that mean it is goodbye to the paper book, and the smell of the black ink?
1.Who created an online schoolbag?
2.What’s the size of the online schoolbag?
3.Why does goReader plan to work closely with the publishers of textbooks?
4.Would you like to use this online schoolbag? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.)
Passage 2

Moo Deng is a baby pygmy hippo. She was born in July at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand. People like her because she is playful and full of life. Her name, Moo Deng, means “bouncy pork (弹跳猪)”. It is a good name for her fun and lively nature.
Moo Deng’s keeper, Mr Nundee, started posting videos of her on social media when she was very young. These videos made Moo Deng famous. People all over the world enjoy watching videos of her running around, playing with her mother, and trying to bite (咬) Mr Nundee in a funny way. Now Moo Deng has millions of fans. Many people share her pictures and videos online. Some companies even use her pictures to make jokes or sell things like makeup and cakes.
Her fame (名气) brings many visitors to the zoo. Thousands of people come every day to see her. The zoo made shirts, T-shirts, and pants. These clothes all had pictures of Moo Deng on them and sold out very quickly. The zoo plans to use the money to help look after more endangered (濒危的) animals. The zoo hopes that more people will learn about these animals and want to protect them in the future.
Pygmy hippos are in great danger. Only about 2,500 pygmy hippos live in the wild. They live in forests in West Africa. Because people cut down trees to make farms and roads, many forests are disappearing. Some people also hunt pygmy hippos for food. This makes it difficult for pygmy hippos to stay safe. The zoo hopes Moo Deng’s fame will help people understand why they should protect these animals and their forest homes.
At the zoo, Moo Deng faces some problems. Some visitors throw water or other things at her. They want her to move or play more. To protect her, the zoo now limits (限制) how many people can see her and how long they can stay. The zoo is also setting up a webcam (网络摄像头) so people can watch her online anytime—24 hours a day. With this, her fans can watch her playful life, and she stays safe.
1.Who started posting videos of Moo Deng on social media?
2.What does the zoo plan to do with the money from selling clothes?
3.How many pygmy hippos live in the wild?
4.As a student in Beijing, what can you do to help Moo Deng and other pygmy hippos? (Please give two ways.)
Passage 3
(23-24七年级上·北京丰台·期末)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Do potatoes play a small role (角色) on your dinner table? Maybe it’s time to make a big change! Potatoes have become China’s fourth staple food (主食) after rice, wheat and corn. Using potatoes as a staple can make us healthier. They do good to us in many ways.
Potatoes are nutritious (有营养的). They are rich in vitamin C. As we all know, vitamin C can help people keep strong. A potato’s vitamin C is as rich as 10 apples. Potatoes are also low in calories — they don’t have as much calories as wheat and corn have, but they have high-quality protein. These are what people are looking for in a healthy diet (饮食).
Also, potatoes are easy to grow. People can plant them in almost every part of China. They can even grow well on barren land. What’s more, potatoes don’t need much water to grow. China is facing water shortage problems, so potatoes are a good choice.
Many Chinese people think potatoes are vegetables. They cook potatoes along with other things, and the dishes made with potatoes are really delicious. As a staple, potatoes can also be cooked differently. Scientists have tried to make noodles and other staple foods with potatoes, just like how we use rice or wheat. Would you like to try potato noodles? They taste pretty good.
Potatoes have many good points, but it doesn’t mean we can eat them every day. Potatoes have a lot of starch (淀粉). If we eat them a lot and do little exercise, we will get fat. Also, too much fried potato food, such as French fries or potato chips, will be bad for our health.
In a word, we are what we eat. No matter how good the food is, we should eat in a right way, then we’ll look good and healthy.
1.What nutrition are potatoes rich in?
2.Where can people plant potatoes in China?
3.What have scientists tried to make with potatoes?
4.Would you like to eat more potatoes in the future? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.)

Our teacher said we couldn’t go camping because we didn’t have enough adults. “Why can’t you come?” I asked Dad. But Dad said he had to work. “You could ask Uncle AI,” he said. Uncle AI? I couldn’t take Uncle AI. He would do silly things. But Uncle AU came with us because it was the only way we could go.

Uncle AI jumped up, “I will fix this bus,” he said! “No!” I shouted. “Don’t let him.” But Uncle AI was already looking in the motor. We could hear banging and tapping.
Uncle AI got back on the bus. He had black oil all over his face, hands and clothes. “It’s fixed,” he said. Everyone clapped (鼓掌) but I didn’t. When you clap for Uncle AI, he puts on a show. He did a silly dance right there in the bus.
When we got back to school, Holly Ho said, “He is your uncle, isn’t he?” I looked at Uncle AI. He was swinging (摇摆) his bag. I couldn’t help laughing (禁不住笑). “Yes,” I said. “I’m sorry I told you a lie (谎言). He is my uncle.” “You’re lucky!” said Holly Ho.

Try more meaningful “firsts” to make more happy memories!
When I ask my grandma about her favorite memories, she talks about the events when she was 20 years old. Dr. Smith’s study shows that we remember new and exciting things better. Most of our memories are about first-time experiences or special events.
At the age of six, I went to a big fun park with my parents for the first time. It was so exciting for a little girl! We went there by bus, talking and laughing all the way. At the park, I tried riding the roller coaster for the first time. My heart raced as we went up and down. It felt like a dream. Today, these special memories are still in my mind. That’s the power of “firsts”.
I remember my first art lesson in junior high. I even remember my first maths teacher in my primary school. In fact, first-time experiences took place at the beginning of the school year, around 40% in September and 16% in October. Those first-time experiences can stay in our memories for many years.
There’s a secret to making happy memories — we can create more happy moments by trying meaningful things and having lots of “firsts”, because people remember new and exciting things better. So, let’s use this to make our lives full of memorable (值得纪念的) and meaningful moments.
1.What does Dr. Smith’s study show?
2.How did the writer and her parents go to the big fun park?
3.What can stay in our memories for many years?
4.Do you want to make more happy moments by trying more meaningful “firsts”? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.)

Passage 1
(24-25七年级上·北京西城·期末)
I have always loved birds. As a child, I spent hours every day reading books about them. At the beginning of Grade 7, I joined a birdwatching club at my school. And so my birdwatching journey started.
The club opened up a new world for me. It taught me how to spot birds hiding in the trees, recognize their songs, and tell the difference between species (种类). In my free time, I often watched birds in a park near my home. Each time I found a new bird, it felt like finding a hidden treasure and my interest grew. Birdwatching soon became more than just a hobby—it became part of my life. Whenever I traveled to a new place, I would look for birds there. Spending time outdoors was a joy for me and brought me closer to nature.
Last summer, I went on a ten-day birdwatching trip to Yunnan with the birdwatching club. It was my first time to go birdwatching with a group, and it deepened my love for the activity! We woke up early each day to watch birds in the trees and listen to their songs. I found many new species and learnt more about them. With tall trees and birdsong all around, I felt relaxed and all my worries were gone. This trip was so unforgettable!
Looking back, I see how much birdwatching means to me. It’s a simple hobby for everyone because you don’t need much to get started. So come and join me! Maybe you’ll be surprised at how birdwatching can help you connect with the world around you.

A little girl from Jieyang, Guangdong was practising a lion dance when a professional lion dance performance team (专业舞狮表演队) passed by. When they saw the girl practising, they started to beat (击) drums for her and she quickly did a lion dance. Her love for traditional Chinese culture really hit me.
I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club. When I was ten, I joined the paper cutting club. Every Monday and Friday, I learnt to make paper cuttings there. Our teacher, Ms. Li, was very good at it. With a pair of scissors and a piece of paper, she could make beautiful works (作品). Passage 1
(24-25七年级上·北京房山·期末)As a student, we may have many dreams. The dreams can be very big, like becoming Superman, or they can be very small, like making birthday cakes by ourselves. Also, we may just want to become one of the best students in our class. If we have a dream, what do we do with it? What should we do to make our dreams come true (实现)?
Follow Your Heart is a book written by the Australian writer Andrew Matthews. It tells us that making our dreams come true is life’s biggest challenge.
“You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible (不可能的) for you to become a star. These ideas stop you from getting your dream,” the book says.
In fact, everyone can make his or her dream come true. The first important thing we must do is to know what our dreams are.
Don’t let it leave our heart. Keep telling ourselves what we want. Do this step by step and our dreams will come true faster. A big dream is made up of many small dreams.
Never give up our dreams. There will be difficulties on the road. But the biggest problem is that we need to decide (决定) what is the most important. Studying instead of (代替) watching TV will bring us better exam points. Saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means we can buy a new book. When we get closer to our dreams, it may change a little. Then we will be able to learn more skills and find new interests.
1.What does the book Follow Your Heart tell us?
2.What is the first important thing to do if we want to make our dreams come true?
3.What is the biggest problem on the road of making dreams come true?
4.What is your dream? How can you make it come true? (Please give 2 points.)
Passage 2
(24-25七年级上·北京昌平·期末)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Do you often find yourself worried about the coming art project or sports? You’re not the only one with those little worries. We all feel that way! But hey, you know what? A little worry can be kind of cool.
As a middle school student, I often have some little worries. For example, when I worry about an art project, I put a lot of effort on it. It makes me better. So, give those little worries a high-five — they’re just your body’s way of saying, “Hey, let’s get ready!”
A little worry can be a big help for our study. It makes us think hard and listen carefully in class. So, a little worry can help us do our best and learn lots!
A little worry can make us a good planner. We may ask, “What words am I not sure about?” Then we’ll check our textbook, thinking hard about each one. We may also worry about finishing our math test on time, so we try to get fast.
A little worry can bring us cool feelings before a sports day. We may worry about how well we play. And a little worry keeps us exercising all week. We feel energetic after trying our best to practise.
So, don’t be afraid of a little worry. It can be our friend and help us get ready for all the cool things in our life, making us do our best.
1.What does the writer do when he worries about an art project?
2.Why can a little worry be a big help for our study?
3.What can a little worry bring us before a sports day?
4.Do you think a little worry is good or bad for you? Why?(Please give two reasons.)

On that day, there are some kinds of activities. Many people plan and take part in activities, such as visiting art museums, watching movies, playing games and holding parties with their families. Some communities (社区) plan special activities, too.

The zoo hopes that more people will learn about these animals and want to protect them in the future.
Pygmy hippos are in great danger. Only about 2,500 pygmy hippos live in the wild. They live in forests in West Africa.
