It often takes weeks, months, or even longer to adjust to new experiences. This is true for a significant milestone that so many students fear: the beginning of high school. When I started high school, it felt like my entire world had turned upside down. Since I came from a small middle school, the leap to a larger all-girls school was stressful. I worried about fitting in this new environment. To make matters even more daunting, my best friend chose a different school, leaving me to brave this new chapter (篇章) on my own. Luckily, our school worked hard to ensure freshmen felt comfortable during their first year of high school. On the very first day, we took part in Tiger Camp, a camp designed to ease us into high school life. We played team-building games, met our small group leaders, and got to know our classmates better. By the end of the camp, I already felt a sense of belonging. Once the school year started, one of the first major events I attended was the Club Carnival, which introduced us high school freshmen to a wide variety of extracurricular activities here. I joined the Friendly Fashion Club and a book club, both of which gave me a chance to meet like-minded students. After I adapted (适应) to the new school, there were still more challenges waiting for me. The workload was heavy, and I quickly realized that keeping up with the numerous subjects and constant assignments would be challenging: Not only did the subjects become more difficult, but the expectations were higher, and the exams seemed endless. However, as time went on, I began to develop better time management skills and learned how to deal with my studies better. With time, I learned to accept the challenges, knowing that every difficulty was an opportunity to get better. As I discovered, even the worst storms pass, and just as clouds give way to blue skies, my fears eventually disappeared. 1.What does “daunting” underlined in paragraph 2 mean? A.Confusing. B.Encouraging. C.Frightening. D.Surprising. 2.How did the events held by the school mainly help the writer? A.By providing academic support. B.By teaching her study methods. C.By introducing her to her teachers. D.By connecting her to the community. 3.What is paragraph 5 mainly about? A.The writer’s deep fear of high school. B.The learning stress faced by the writer. C.The writer’s taking part in various activities. D.The skills the writer learned during the first few days. 4.What can be concluded from the last paragraph? A.The writer experienced personal growth over time. B.The writer found high school to be a painful experience. C.The writer had trouble with high school throughout the year. D.The writer found much support from friends and teachers. In my high school PE class last fall, I watched a quiet girl find her leadership by creating a new rule, a slow boy find his confidence as a goalkeeper, and a group of unconcerned students become a team that cheered for every victory. More than once, I was surprised by students’ growth moments. But things were different at the beginning of the semester. Then, in our PE class, the first unit was a traditional series of training: running, doing push-ups, and practicing basketball shots. Most students practiced unwillingly. Their movements were slow, and few showed any real enjoyment. I was a little disappointed. Then I realized that the problem was the way itself. The children would play for hours in their own invented games. As a new month started, I changed our focus to student-designed games and team challenges. They found the activities much more exciting. In the next unit, we did working-together adventure games. After that, we had a sports event chosen by students. I only required that everyone take part actively and that the team work together to achieve a goal. The results were wonderful. The students welcomed the challenges. The classes were filled with laughter. Students also solved problems in creative ways, and everyone supported each other. They changed totally. I walked into the semester believing that PE was important for building physical fitness and teaching sports skills. However, my students showed something more important to me. When the final whistle (哨子) blew in December, I walked away with a new plan about sport’s most valuable reward — the power to build confidence, to unite a group, and to help us discover the best in ourselves and each other. 1.What happened to the students according to paragraph 1? A.They experienced great changes. B.They won an important sports competition. C.They complained about the difficult training. D.They failed to meet the teacher’s expectations. 2.Why did the students perform poorly at first? A.They had weak sports skills. B.They were short of team spirit. C.The training activities were challenging. D.The training method failed to attract them. 3.What change did the author make? A.He invited key coaches for guidance. B.He introduced more challenging games. C.He focused on student-led and team sports. D.He increased the difficulty of physical training. 4.What does the author’s experience show? A.Teaching is learning. B.Still waters run deep. C.Training is powerful. D.Practice makes perfect. Academic stress means the anxiety and pressure that come from school and studying. It is often related to homework, exams, reading, and competitions. Students who cannot balance their studies with family, friends, and social life usually feel more stressed and may even lose interest in learning. Recently, researchers from Imperial College London carried out a research to study academic stress among senior high school students. A total of 355 students from both cities and rural areas took part in the research. The study showed that, out of 355 students, 35 students (10.02%) had high academic stress, 150 students (42.53%) had average stress, and 69 students (19.43%) had low stress. The study also found that boys reported more stress than girls, partly because parents often believe boys should be able to take care of family belongings or business in the future. The study also found that students in city schools had more stress than those in rural schools. City students often face too much homework, projects, sports, and extra classes. Teachers and parents want them to do well in everything, expect them to perform several tasks at the same time, and value them mostly for their achievements. This heavy pressure makes it difficult for students to relax and enjoy learning. Dr. Henry, one of the researchers, explained the significance of the study: “Our findings can help teachers and parents understand the situation of academic stress among senior high school students. Teachers are supposed to create a caring and supportive learning environment to help students with their study problems. Parents should encourage them along the way and appreciate their children’s hard work, so that students feel inspired to perform well and experience less stress in daily life.” 1.What percentage of the students suffered from academic stress? A.10.02%. B.71.98%. C.42.53%. D.19.43%. 2.What can be inferred about education in city schools? A.It focuses more on achievements. B.It values students’ mental health. C.It is more creative and inspiring. D.It offers more freedom to students. 3.What does Dr. Henry suggest parents do? A.Expect their children to value their achievements. B.Help their children deal with their study problems. C.Create a supportive learning environment at school. D.Appreciate their children’s hard work and inspire them. 4.Where is the passage most likely taken from? A.A fashion magazine. B.A research journal. C.A travel guidebook. D.A sports newspaper. In the heart of Jiangsu Province, the 2025 Jiangsu Football City League, affectionately known as Suchao, has reached its peak with the 11th round of regular season matches scheduled for this weekend. The league has been an exciting event, winning the hearts of football enthusiasts across the nation. Initially, the teams from Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou found themselves at the bottom of the standings. Playful netizens gave them the nickname “Three Fools by Taihu Lake,” which seemed to stick. However, these underdogs were far from foolish. Each city’s team had its moment of glory, proving that determination and resilience (韧性) could turn the tide. Wuxi and Suzhou showed remarkable perseverance, holding their ground against stronger opponents. Their defensive strategies were impressive, as they stopped numerous attacks with precision and teamwork. Changzhou, on the other hand, delivered a thrilling victory in a closely contested “stroke defence battle”. The final whistle blew, and the players erupted in celebration, their hard work and perseverance finally paying off. Off the field, the friendship among the players was obvious. They trained tirelessly, supporting each other through the highs and lows of the season. The coaches, too, played a crucial role, plotting strategies that maximized each team’s strengths. The fans, not discouraged by their teams’ initial struggles, remained loyal, their cheers echoing through the stadiums. The Suchao is more than just a football tournament; it’s a celebration of the human spirit. It’s about the journey from the depths of despair to the heights of victory. It’s a reminder that no matter how low you start, with hard work, determination, and a bit of luck, you can achieve greatness. It can be incredibly difficult to encourage ourselves to go for a run during winter, particularly when it’s wet and windy outside. But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. In fact, it seems that just a 10-minute session will not only make us feel better, but could actually improve brain health, too. Now, we all know that exercise can improve mental and physical health in many ways. But when it comes to mental well-being, there’s been relatively little research done on the specific benefits of running, compared with other physical activities, such as cycling. So this was something put to the test during a recent study. Researchers from University of Tsukuba in Japan asked participants (参加者) to run on a treadmill (跑步机) for just 10minutes. They then had to take a Stroop Color and Word Test which is used to measure reaction time in brain processing. Results showed there was a highest point in self-reported pleasure and an increase in degree of activity of the brain. In other words, runners were found to have an increase in blood flow in the part of the brain that’s associated with dealing with functions and controlling mood (情绪). Researchers then compared these results to a similar study on cycling, which also showed improved cognition (认知), but no mood improvement. Therefore, it seems various types of exercise can make us feel differently. The authors noted, “Given exercise is medicine, the effects of drugs differ depending on the type of drug, and different types of exercise such as running and cycling should be observed to have different effects on mental health and brain functions as well.” So pushing ourselves to get outside for a run really will make us feel better, probably more than other fitness activities. And these findings show that we don’t necessarily need to do a lot of exercise to feel the benefit of it. 1.What did the new research find? A.Running fast benefits all of us. B.Running is the best exercise. C.A healthy mind encourages us to run. D.A short time run can be of benefit. 2.How did the researchers get the result? A.By using different drugs on participants. B.By interviewing some sportsmen. C.By collecting information on the Internet D.By doing experiments and comparisons. 3.Which is related to our happiness? A.Cycling. B.Medicine. C.Blood flow. D.Colors. 4.What is the main idea of the text? A.We should go for a run in winter. B.Running really benefits us mentally. C.We are supposed to do a lot of exercise. D.Running on a treadmill is better than running outside. On December 26, 2004, an earthquake along the Indian Ocean caused a huge tsunami (海啸) that killed many people. However, wildlife officials at Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park reported no mass animal deaths. This phenomenon has caused an on-going debate: can animals truly predict (预测) earthquakes? Some researchers believe that the animals at the park were able to sense the earthquake and moved to higher ground before the earthquake. Animals have good senses that help protect themselves from being hunted by their natural enemies. It is thought that their senses might also help them sense the coming disasters. Several countries have done research on the prediction of earthquakes by animals. There are two theories about animals’ sensing earthquakes. One theory is that animals sense the earth’s shake. The other is that they can sense changes in the air. However, so far there has been no strong evidence about how animals sense earthquakes. The absence of strong evidence makes other researchers skeptical (怀疑) about using animals for earthquake predictions. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) officially states, “Changes in animal behaviors cannot be used to predict earthquakes. Even though there have been many cases of unusual animal behaviors before earthquakes, a connection between a specific behavior and an earthquake has not been made. Because of their fine senses, animals can often feel the earthquake at its earliest stages before humans. That’s why people say that the animal knew the earthquake was coming. But animals can also change their behaviors for many other reasons. If an earthquake can shake millions of people, it is likely that a few of their pets will, by chance, be acting strangely before the earthquake.” Despite this disagreement, scientists generally agree that animals can sense environmental changes before humans. Researchers around the world are continuing to study the connection between animal behaviors and earthquakes. It is hoped that these studies will help to predict earthquakes. 1.What can we know about animals’ senses? A.They are useless in daily life. B.They are helpful to find more food. C.They can help protect themselves. D.They can prevent strange behaviors. 2.What does the USGS’view suggest? A.Animal behaviors can predict earthquakes. B.Animals can have many unusual behaviors. C.Animals change behaviors for many reasons. D.Animal behaviors are linked to earthquakes. 3.What is the author’s attitude to scientists’ study? A.Hopeful. B.Uncertain. C.Objective. D.Skeptical. 4.What is the best title for the text? A.The Prediction of Earthquakes B.Animals and Earthquake Prediction C.A New Discovery from the USGS D.The Mystery of Yala National Park As wildfires spread across Los Angeles, the J. Paul Getty Museum proved its strong disaster readiness. With fire within six feet of the Getty Villa on January 7, the museum’s strong protective measures became a great example of strength to hold on. The Getty Museum’s workers took turns working day and night and checked the hilltops surrounding both the Getty Villa and the Getty Center. The older Getty Villa, home to thousands of old and valuable objects, is located in the Pacific Palisades, while the Getty Center in Brentwood houses famous artworks like Vincent van Gogh’s Irises. Carrying with fire extinguishers (灭火器), the workers checked the grounds for fire, carefully protecting the museum’s valuable collections. The museum’s survival against the fires was unusual among the deadly damage that killed dozens and destroyed thousands of homes. With $9.1 billion and years of experience in fighting wildfires, the Getty had used millions in ways to stop fires, like fire-resistant (防火的) architecture. When the fire endangered the Getty Villa, President Katherine Fleming watched anxiously from the Getty Center’s command station, tracking the fire’s progress. The villa, built with walls and roofs that don’t burn easily, remained unharmed though the fire was very close. The same was true for its priceless collection of 40,000 valuable objects. Meanwhile, the Getty Center’s architecture, designed by Richard Meier with keeping safe in fire in mind, features 1.2 million square feet of stone and open spaces to stop fire from spreading. The museum’s complex irrigation (灌溉) system was started quickly, wetting the grounds and further protecting the treasures. In the case of Getty, planning ahead protected its treasures. Such preparedness — from fire-resistant designs to quick-response systems — sets a model. In the future, as more disasters driven by the climate emergency must happen, the attention of normal people is important: public awareness and support for such protective measures will become increasingly important. 1.What is the main idea of paragraph 2? A.Locations of the Getty Museum sites. B.Valuable collections at the Getty Villa. C.Daily training and duties of the museum. D.Fire prevention efforts by museum workers. 2.Why did the Getty Villa survive the fire? A.It was far from the fire area. B.Its structure resisted fire well. C.All artworks were taken away. D.Workers put out the fire quickly. 3.What does the author want to imply in the last paragraph? A.Climate change is a big danger now. B.The Getty’s success is hard to copy. C.Museums should avoid dangerous areas. D.Early planning helps deal with disasters. 4.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Getty’s Preparation Beats Wildfires. B.LA Fires Destroy Museums. C.Van Gogh’s Art Saves Getty. D.Cheap Designs Stop Fires. Is it color or colour? Center or centre? Realize or realise? Both are correct. This difference has existed for centuries. You might wonder how this difference came about. Even though we connect American English with the “-or” word endings, this wasn’t always the case. In fact, before the American revolution (革命), English lexicographers(词典编纂者)preferred “\-or\” endings over “\-our\” spellings, aiming to reduce French influences on the language. In 1755, English writer Samuel Johnson published his masterpiece: A Dictionary of the English Language, an Anthology. Johnson tried to standardize the language because he felt that it was a mess. In fact, English was indeed a bit of mess as people were spelling words such as “general” as “jinerll”. Samuel reintroduced the ‘u’ in‘-our’ endings and also added a ‘k’ to words like ‘critick,’ ‘publick,’ and ‘chaotick’. This ‘k’ ending, however, was dropped many years later. For almost a century, English were “ruled” by Samuel Johnson’s guidelines on the language. Then Noah Webster, an American lexicographer, came into play. He wanted America to be different from Britain. He believed that words should be spelled more like they sound because this would have made English easier to teach at school. Having experienced an unsuccessful effort, he published An American Dictionary of the English Language in 1828. The dictionary became an instant success and forever changed the English language in the US. This is why “colour” became “color”, “centre” became “center”, “masque” became “mask”. The British, however, did not accept the new spellings as they saw them as “Americanisms”. British newspapers and magazines returned to the old spellings in an effort to stay loyal to “their” English and this is why now Americans and British spell words differently. 1.Why did English lexicographers like “-or” endings before Revolution? A.To weaken French influence. B.To help build many schools. C.To develop a new language. D.To match French spelling. 2.How does the author show that English spelling was once messy? A.By changing all spelling rules. B.By listing spelling examples. C.By giving a talk everywhere. D.By starting a revolution. 3.Which word probably belongs to American spelling? A.Kilometre. B.Theatre. C.Colour. D.Neighbor. 4.What is the text mainly about? A.Noah Webster’s life story. B.Samuel Johnson’s efforts. C.Differences on English spelling. D.The history of an English dictionary. Although South Africans are known for their friendliness and warmth, our accent (口音) is not well-received, with a new study showing our accent is the world’s 12th friendliest. According to the study, only 1 in every 100 participants (参与者) considered the South African accent as the most friendly-sounding — a big drop since 2019 when it was considered the second most beautiful accent worldwide, which was an astonishing result for me. The study found Americans had the friendliest English accent in the world with one in five seeing the American accent as the friendliest. Though the Canadian accent is the most closely related to general American English, with similar rules for pronunciation and accent, only one in 12 selected it as the friendliest accent. The British accent is considered the second most friendly accent, with one in seven selecting it as the friendliest. The Australian accent came in third place, with almost one in 10 considering it to be friendly. Although the New Zealand accent is similar to the Australian accent, New Zealanders came 15th with just 1 in 100 choosing the Kiwi accent as the friendliest. In understanding why some accents are viewed as more friendly than others, Dr Christopher Strelluf from the University of Warwick said attitudes towards language varieties (变体) usually show the ideas “we have about people who speak those varieties”. “If people around the world think American English sounds friendly, it’s good news for Americans because it means people think of Americans as friendly people.” “The meanings of Englishes worldwide are also changing rapidly across many dimensions (维度). For example, while British English has historically provided an international model for ‘correct’ English, people who live in countries where English is being learned for getting into the global (全球的) marketplace increasingly prefer American English as their standard,” said Strelluf. “In this study, the attitudes towards English show the basic ways we continue to find our way through social relationships using language and our thoughts about language.” 1.How does the author probably feel about the study? A.Excited. B.Doubtful. C.Surprised. D.Satisfied 2.Which of the four accents is least friendly according to the study? A.The American accent. B.The Canadian accent. C.The Australian accent. D.The British accent. 3.What may the study lead people to think according to Strelluf? A.Americans are nice and warm. B.Americans are usually talkative. C.Americans like language to be varied. D.Americans like to explore the world. 4.Why does Strelluf mention people’s preferred Englishes in paragraph 4? A.To show the development of the global marketplace. B.To explain the importance of learning “correct English”. C.To draw attention to the changing face of global English. D.To compare the difference of English in the UK and the US. People of different nationalities seem to vary in their use of hand gestures, according to a study that seems to support the idea that Italians, in particular, “talk with their hands”. Maria Graziano and her colleague Marianne Gullberg, both at Lund University in Sweden, asked 12 people from Sweden and 12 from Italy to describe a video from a children’s TV show to a friend who hadn’t seen it, while examining their hand gestures. In the study, the Italians made an average of 22 gestures per 100 words of their speech, compared with the Swedes’ 11. But more interesting was the difference in the function of the hand gestures, says Graziano. The Swedes mostly used “referential gestures” to demonstrate the events of the story or the characters’ actions, for example showing a rolling pin (擀面杖) when describing baking. The Italians made these gestures as well, but also had more “pragmatic gestures” with which they commented on the story or introduced new information, such as a hand movement to indicate a new character. Currently, Barbara Tversky at Stanford University in California says that exactly why these results occurred is unclear, and she wants to see further research in larger groups of people with a more diverse mix of nationalities. A possible explanation is that different cultures’ understanding and explanation of short videos could lead to varying ways of organizing speech content and impact gesturing. Also, Graziano hopes to study the hand gestures used in different texts, and with different relationships between the speakers, to explore how various cultures use hand gestures to communicate and tell a story. “Hand gestures are produced in all languages and cultures, and they are not a mere decoration of speech; they are closely related to what we are saying and how we want to say it,” Graziano concluded. 1.What can we know about the participants (参与者) according to paragraph 2? A.They were of the same age. B.They were from two different countries. C.They were asked to write a summary. D.They didn’t like children’s shows. 2.What’s the key difference in hand gesture functions between Swedes and Italians? A.Italians add more pragmatic gestures. B.Swedes rarely use referential gestures. C.Swedes only focus on commenting on stories. D.Italians never introduce new characters with hand gestures. 3.What did Graziano agree with? A.Gestures have no real meaning. B.Different cultures use the same gestures to tell stories. C.Hand gestures are more than decorations for speech. D.Cultural differences in gestures require no further study. 4.Where can we read the passage? A.In a paper on physics. B.In a magazine about culture. C.In a science fiction. D.In a magazine about environment. The Sanxingdui Museum in southwest China’s Sichuan Province enjoyed huge popularity during the threeday Qingming Festival holidays by receiving nearly 20, 000 visitors on the peak day, after the new archaeological discoveries brought international attention. According to media reports, the museum saw over 15, 000 visitors on Saturday, the first day of the Qingming Festival, breaking its record for daily visitors. And on the next day, more visitors swarmed into the museum to exceed (超过) 19, 800. To cope with the large flow of people, on Sunday afternoon, the official Weibo account of the Sanxingdui Museum released the message to remind visitors of avoiding rush hours or rescheduling their visiting time. The Sanxingdui Museum showcases various kinds of precious cultural relics unearthed at the site, such as the 2.62 meters tall standing statue, 1.38 meters wide bronze mask, 3.95meters high bronze tree. Earlier on March 20, Chinese archaeologists announced some new major discoveries made during the 37th excavation (挖掘) since its last excavation 35 years ago. The ruins were first discovered in the late 1920s and first excavated in 1934. More than 500 important cultural relics have been unearthed in the six newlyfound pits. Since the new discoveries were known to the public, the number of people visiting the Sanxingdui Museum has increased sharply. The museum said although they are open as usual, the newlyfound pits have not opened to the public yet and the newlyexcavated cultural relics are still under restoration and cannot meet the public currently. But a hall for cultural relic conservation and restoration will be in pilot operation in April and officially open on May 18. Visitors to it can see how the relics are restored, according to Zhu Yarong, vice director of the Sanxingdui Museum. D.Tourist numbers reached the peak on the first day of the Qingming Festival. 3.What does the underlined word “pilot” in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Trial. B.Private. C.Official. D.Personal. Everyone knows that dogs are supposed to be our best friends . Could it be that they know what we are thinking? Whether it’s getting excited at the prospect of a walk or knowing that tasty food is coming soon, are our dogs reading our minds? Now, by mind-reading we’ re not talking about knowing our deepest thoughts in detail, but various psychologists have suggested that dogs might have a theory of mind. What this means is that they are aware that other creatures, like humans, are able to see and understand things in different ways. In various experiments, it appears that dogs are able to identify who is paying them attention. They are more likely to ask for food from someone if there is a reason that the human would know where the dog treats are . If dogs have been forbidden food by someone, they are more likely to try and get it quietly. As well as these behavioural studies, there are other things that show how dogs are able to relate closely to humans. Brain imaging studies have shown not only that canine brains react to human voices, but that they also show an emotional response to those human sounds which demonstrate strong feelings, such as laughing or crying. Brain scan studies have also shown that human faces also provoke an emotional response in dogs. Other studies have shown that sweat from people feeling scared could make dogs feel more stressed than sweat from happy people. There is some debate about whether dogs have evolved to respond to human emotions as they have become domesticated or whether this behaviour is a learned reaction to stimuli. Experiments like those described above have also been carried out on wolves that have been raised by humans/who may have learned to respond to their carer’s behaviour, but do not have the genes of a domesticated species/Wolves did show some abilities to respond to human emotions, but were less able to pick up more subtle clues. Whether it’s learned or innate, dogs’ ability to read human emotions and intentions is one reason that we have included them in our lives for centuries. It’s also why they have been successful as assistance dogs, helping their owners to get through everyday life. 1.Why do dogs usually ask some specific humans for food? A.Those humans often offer more dog treats. B.Those humans are aware of where the dog treats are kept. C.Those humans are more kind to dogs. D.Those humans have more spare time. 2.What do brain imaging studies show about dogs? A.Dogs’ brains only react to human voices with strong feelings. B.Scared people’s sweat stresses dogs more than other sounds. C.Human faces affect dogs’ emotions more than voices. D.Dogs have emotional responses to human voices and faces. 3.What can the wolf experiment show? A.Learned reactions have little to no effect on how animals respond to humans. B.Domestication has made dogs more dependent on humans than wolves are. C.Wolves are less intelligent than dogs when it comes to interacting with humans. D.Genes may play a role in animals’ ability to understand human emotional clues. 4.What can be inferred about the relationship between dogs and humans from the text? A.Dogs’ emotion-reading helps them stay with humans. B.Only assistance dogs help humans. C.Humans keep dogs for their looks. D.Dogs’ ability to read human emotions is completely innate rather than learned. We take our speech abilities for granted. Most people do not stop to think of how other animals and insects communicate with each other. Ants are amazing creatures that have a tireless work pattern and complex social structure. To achieve this, they must have some ways of communicating with each other. Obviously, ants do not speak as we do, so how do they communicate? Ants communicate by releasing pheromones (信息素) that function outside of the body to send chemical messages to the ant that receives it and by touching their antennae (触角) to feel and smell each other. The best example that we can see very clearly is that ants find food sources and drop pheromones on their ways. By using their antennae to detect pheromone trails and following a sweeping pattern, they encounter a trail. Once the pheromone trail is found, they follow it with one antenna on either side of the path, ensuring they keep on track. This allows other ants to follow the pheromones. The result of these pheromone paths is long convoys of ants, marching one behind each other to collect food. The queen ant uses pheromones to signal. As the queen ages, she gives off pheromones that tell the ant colony that she is dying. They begin feeding and preparing a pupa (蛹) to be the new queen. When ants greet each other with their antennae, they can tell if they are friends or foes and what function each ant fulfills in the nest. Scientists know that this is possible, but they are still trying to identify which pheromones share this information. Ants also give off pheromones that identify the nest they belong to, their social status, and their maturity. The more researchers study ants, the more they discover about their ability to translate information to one another, learn, form collective memories and sound alarms. Ants are truly amazing communicators. 1.How could ants communicate according to the text? A.By attracting companions via sounds. B.By sending alarm signals to the queen. C.By identifying pheromones with antennae. D.By keeping on the same track. 2.What is the function of the pheromone trail? A.To spot enemies in the ant colony. B.To help companions find food sources. C.To keep the orders of the ant community. D.To enable ants to communicate with humans. 3.What is the closest in meaning to the underlined word “convoys” in Para 2? A.Circles. B.Signals. C.Lines. D.Exchanges. 4.What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A.Ants have no collective memories. B.Ants alarm-sounding ability is unique. C.Researchers have identified the types of pheromones. D.More secrets on ants’ communication remain unknown. The US government is currently weighing a crucial decision: whether to grant African lions protection under the Endangered Species Act, which would prohibit the import of lion trophies into the U.S., marking a significant step for an endangered species. This proposal raises a pressing question: why is it still legal to hunt lions for sport when they are vanishing from the wild? Scientific evidence underscores the urgency. A recent study estimates as few as 32,000 lions remain in the wild, with some experts fearing the true number is lower. While the primary drivers of their decline are habitat loss and retaliatory killings by humans, trophy hunting adds unsustainable pressure. Each year, approximately 600 more lions are killed for sport, approximately 60 percent of which are shipped to the U.S. as trophies. The damage caused by trophy hunting runs deeper than the initial kill. The preferred target is the adult male lion whose removal destabilizes the entire pride. When new males take over, they frequently kill all the cubs generated by the previous leader, wiping out a generation within the pride. This practice is also evolutionarily damaging, as it removes the strongest, healthiest males vital for protecting their prides and passing on strong genes to future generations. Some argue that trophy hunting brings money to local communities. Yet, studies show that only about 3% of the income actually reaches them. Most of the money goes to governments or foreign companies. The money that does come into Africa from hunting pales in comparison to the billions generated from tourists who come just to watch wildlife. If lions and other animals continue to disappear from Africa, this vital source of income will end, adversely impacting people all over Africa. Despite decades of discussion about reforming hunting practices, lion numbers continue to fall. As the only big cat not currently protected by the Act, the African lion stands at a crossroads. Granting them protection and banning trophy imports would send a powerful global message: the time to act is now, before this iconic species is lost forever. 1.What will be the direct result if African lions are protected by the Act? A.Lion hunting would become illegal worldwide. B.The import of lion trophies into the U.S. would be banned. C.The number of lions in the wild would immediately increase. D.Local communities in Africa would receive more financial support. 2.What impact does killing a male lion have according to the passage? A.It only leads to the death of the male lion itself. B.It encourages the survival of the weak lions. C.It causes the new lion king to kill all the cubs. D.It weakens the genetic quality of the lion pride. 3.What can advance sustainable development in Africa? A.Enhancing regulated trophy hunting. B.Promoting wildlife-watching tourism. C.Applying for more international funds. D.Encouraging community-led hunting. 4.What is the main idea of the passage? A.African lions are facing extinction due to various human activities. B.Male lions play a key role in maintaining the balance of lion prides. C.Wildlife tourism is more profitable than trophy hunting in Africa. D.The U.S. should protect African lions by banning lion trophy imports. When a new virus like the one that causes COVID-19 appears, developing a vaccine used to take many years. Scientists had to grow the virus in labs, which was a slow and difficult process. But a new type of vaccine, called messenger RNA (MRNA) vaccine, has changed everything. This technology was used to create effective COVID-19 vaccines in record time. It works like a set of instructions that teaches our own bodies how to defend themselves. This breakthrough is not just for COVID-19; it gives hope for fighting other diseases like flu, cancer, and HIV in the future. So, how does it work? Traditional vaccines often put a impaired or inactive germ into our body to train our immune system. MRNA vaccines are different. They do not contain the virus itself. Instead, they carry a small piece of genetic instructions called MRNA.These instructions tell our body’s cells to make a harmless piece of protein that looks like a part of the virus. Our immune system sees this protein, recognizes it as something that shouldn’t be there, and learns how to make antibodies to fight it. If the real virus ever enters our body, our immune system is already prepared to destroy it quickly. After giving the instructions, the MRNA breaks down naturally and leaves the body. It does not enter the nucleus of our cells or change our DNA in any way. The biggest advantage of MRNA technology is its speed and simplicity. Once scientists know the genetic code of a virus, they can quickly design the MRNA instructions in a lab. This is much faster than older methods. Because of this, scientists are now researching how to use MRNA to teach the body to fight cancer by targeting cancer cells, or to make better vaccines for diseases like malaria. This simple idea — giving our bodies a set of instructions to protect themselves — has opened a new chapter in medicine. 1.How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph? A.By stating a problem simply. B.By explaining a complex process. C.By focusing on a single achievement. D.By comparing old and new methods. 2.What does the underlined word mean? A.Weakened. B.Improved. C.Modified. D.Transformed. 3.What can we infer from the passage? A.MRNA vaccines contain relative virus. B.MRNA enter the cells and change DNA. C.MRNA vaccines fight against all diseases. D.MRNA vaccines can be designed quickly. 4.What is the best title for this passage? A.The breakthrough of MRNA Vaccines. B.The development of MRNA Vaccines. C.The advantages of MRNA Vaccines. D.The principles of MRNA Vaccines. The UK government has announced a new plan for digital identity (ID) cards. Prime Minister Keir Starmer revealed the plan on September 26th, and the system should be in place before August 2029. Under this system, everyone living in the UK would store a digital ID on their smartphone containing basic personal information including their name, date of birth, nationality, and photograph. The government says this card will be very important for getting a job. Every employer must check this digital ID before someone can start working. This is to make sure the person has the right to work in the country. The Prime Minister believes this will help stop people from working illegally. Right now, people use different paper documents like passports or driving licenses to prove their identity. The new digital ID will be another form of identification you must have for a new job. The government argues these digital cards are harder to fake than paper documents. It also highlights the convenience for job seekers, as the process would become quicker and easier without the need for paper documents that can be lost. Beyond employment, digital cards will also be used to help people access services such as childcare, which will speed up the process. Other countries, like Australia and Estonia, already use similar digital IDs. But, many people are worried about whether their personal information will be safe, and they don’t like sharing so much private data in fear that centralizing so much personal information could make it a target for cybercriminals. They also emphasize that not everyone has a smartphone or is comfortable using technology, meaning the system could exclude certain groups from the start. Finally, critics feel this is an unnecessary intrusion (侵犯) into people’ s lives by the government and fear it could lead to demands for even more private information in the future. 1.What is purpose of the new plan? A.To help people work illegally in the UK. B.To store basic details on employers’ phones. C.To confirm a person’s right to work in the UK. D.To improve the employment rate in the country. 2.What does the government think of the digital ID cards? A.They cost less but work better. B.They are safer and more convenience. C.They will soon take the place of paper documents. D.They have made the process of childcare services faster. 3.What may be people’s main concern about the digital IDs? A.Data safety. B.High cost. C.Impractical method. D.Technical failure. 4.What does the underline word “exclude” mean in Paragraph 4? A.Count on. B.Cheer up. C.Look after. D.Leave out. Many of us may have experienced the pleasant moment of seeing recommended songs after we listened to some songs on a music app. When we open shopping websites, we often see things we want to buy on the home page. The businessman can decide which is the best place to build a new entrance in a big supermarket in the city center. If you want to take a taxi on a taxi app, it can even guess where you want to go before you tell it! Aren’t these things amazing? Those are all based on data (数据). Data is no longer only about numbers, but information from almost every side of our lives: our shopping habits, interests or what we eat. All of this is called “big data”. China is speeding up its big data strategy to better serve social and economic development. As a result, people’s lives can be improved as well. It is also expected that there will be greater use of big data in areas like education, social safety and transportation. We have seen big data being used more often in China in the past few years. The role it plays in tourism is just one example. Many travelers today like to share their experiences with others on the Internet. All the data that travelers share online is helping the tourism industry get a lot of information. After the data is analyzed (分析), these tour sights and service providers can better understand travelers’ needs. In this way, services will be improved, which is helpful to the development of the whole industry. As a result, travelers can expect better tours in the future. Moreover, big data is also an important growth tool for economic development. With growth rate of 30 percent every year, sales of big data industry in China will reach one trillion yuan yearly by 2030. Having so many good influences, big data is sure to be seen more and more in China. 1.According to Paragraph 1, big data can help people ________. A.take a taxi without paying for it. 根据第二段“To make matters even more daunting, my best friend chose a different school, leaving me to brave this new chapter (篇章) on my own. 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者在高中体育课上通过改变教学方式,让学生们经历巨大变化并收获成长的故事。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段“In my high school PE class last fall, I watched a quiet girl find her leadership by creating a new rule, a slow boy find his confidence as a goalkeeper, and a group of unconcerned students become a team that cheered for every victory. More than once, I was surprised by students’ growth moments.(去年秋天在我的高中体育课上,我看到一个安静的女孩通过制定新规则找到了自己的领导力,一个迟缓的男孩作为守门员找到了自信,一群漠不关心的学生变成了一个为每一次胜利欢呼的团队。我不止一次对学生的成长时刻感到惊讶)”可知,学生们经历了巨大的变化。故选A。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“Most students practiced unwillingly. When the final whistle (哨子) blew in December, I walked away with a new plan about sport’s most valuable reward — the power to build confidence, to unite a group, and to help us discover the best in ourselves and each other.(我走进这个学期时,相信体育对于增强体质和传授运动技能很重要。 A。 Academic stress means the anxiety and pressure that come from school and studying. 【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍伦敦帝国理工学院对高中生学业压力的研究,含占比、性别 / 地域差异及专家建议。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The study showed that, out of 355 students, 35 students (10.02%) had high academic stress, 150 students (42.53%) had average stress, and 69 students (19.43%) had low stress.(该研究显示,在355名学生中,35名学生(10.02%)有高度学业压力,150名学生(42.53%)有中等压力,69名学生(19.43%)有低度压力)”可知,有学业压力的学生总占比为 10.02%+42.53%+19.43%=71.98%。故选B项。 2.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“City students often face too much homework, projects, sports, and extra classes. Playful netizens gave them the nickname “Three Fools by Taihu Lake,” which seemed to stick.( 赛事初期,苏州、无锡、常州三支球队排名垫底,爱开玩笑的网友为它们送上了“太湖三傻”的绰号,这一称呼也流传开来。)”可知,这三支球队被称为“太湖三傻”是因为他们刚开始输了很多场比赛。故选B项。 2.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Changzhou, on the other hand, delivered a thrilling victory in a closely contested “stroke defence battle”. The final whistle blew, and the players erupted in celebration, their hard work and perseverance finally paying off.( 另一边,常州队则在一场竞争白热化的 “防守拉锯战” 中斩获一场激动人心的胜利。终场哨声响起,球员们沸腾着庆祝,不懈的努力与坚持终于迎来了回报。)”可推知,常州队的胜利激动人心,来之不易。故选C项。 3.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“As the 11th round approaches, the “Three Fools” are ready to show the world that they are anything but foolish. 【答案】1.D 2.D 3.A 4.B 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了跑步对心理健康的益处,通过一项研究指出,即使是短时间的跑步也能带来显著的健康效益,特别是对大脑健康和情绪的提升。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段“But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. They then had to take a Stroop Color and Word Test which is used to measure reaction time in brain processing.(日本筑波大学的研究人员让参与者在跑步机上只跑了10分钟。然后他们必须进行斯特鲁普颜色和单词测试,这是一种用于测量大脑处理反应时间的测试。)”和第三段“Researchers then compared these results to a similar study on cycling, which also showed improved cognition, but no mood improvement.(研究人员随后将这些结果与一项类似的自行车研究进行了比较,该研究也显示认知能力有所提高,但情绪没有改善。)”可知,研究人员通过做实验和比较得出结果。故选D。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段“In other words, runners were found to have an increase in blood flow in the part of the brain that’s associated with dealing with functions and controlling mood.(换句话说,跑步者被发现大脑中与处理功能和控制情绪相关的部分血流增加。)”可知,血流与我们的幸福有关。故选A。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. In fact, it seems that just a 10-minute session will not only make us feel better, but could actually improve brain health, too.(但新的研究发现,即使是超级快速的跑步也能带来巨大的健康益处。事实上,似乎仅仅10分钟的跑步不仅能让我们感觉更好,而且实际上也能改善大脑健康。)”和最后一段“So pushing ourselves to get outside for a run really will make us feel better, probably more than other fitness activities.(所以,强迫自己出去跑步真的会让我们感觉更好,可能比其他健身活动更好。)”可知,文章主要介绍了跑步真的对我们的心理有益。故选B。 On December 26, 2004, an earthquake along the Indian Ocean caused a huge tsunami (海啸) that killed many people. A.The Prediction of Earthquakes B.Animals and Earthquake Prediction C.A New Discovery from the USGS D.The Mystery of Yala National Park 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.A 4.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了动物能否预测地震这一话题,给出了不同研究者对此的观点,包括一些认为动物能感知地震的理论,以及美国地质调查局对此的怀疑态度,最后提到科学家们仍在研究动物行为与地震的联系,希望这些研究有助于预测地震。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Animals have good senses that help protect themselves from being hunted by their natural enemies. (动物有良好的感官,有助于保护自己免受天敌的捕猎。)”可知,动物的感官能帮助它们保护自己。故选C项。 2.推理判断题。根据第三段中美国地质调查局(USGS)的表述“Even though there have been many cases of unusual animal behaviors before earthquakes, a connection between a specific behavior and an earthquake has not been made. Because of their fine senses, animals can often feel the earthquake at its earliest stages before humans. That’s why people say that the animal knew the earthquake was coming. But animals can also change their behaviors for many other reasons. (尽管在地震前有很多动物行为异常的案例,但尚未发现特定行为与地震之间的联系。由于动物的感官敏锐,它们通常能在人类之前感受到地震的早期阶段。这就是为什么人们说动物知道地震要来了。但动物也可能因为其他许多原因而改变行为。)”可知,美国地质调查局认为动物改变行为有很多原因,不能仅凭动物行为就预测地震。故选C项。 3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Despite this disagreement, scientists generally agree that animals can sense environmental changes before humans. Researchers around the world are continuing to study the connection between animal behaviors and earthquakes. It is hoped that these studies will help to predict earthquakes. (尽管存在这种分歧,科学家们普遍认为动物能在人类之前感知环境变化。世界各地的研究人员正在继续研究动物行为与地震之间的联系。希望这些研究将有助于预测地震。)”可知,作者对科学家们的研究是抱有希望的。故选A项。 4. As wildfires spread across Los Angeles, the J. 【答案】1.D 2.B 3.D 4.A 【导语】这是一篇新闻报道。本文报道了盖蒂博物馆成功抵御野火的案例。通过分析其防火建筑、灌溉系统和员工值守等预防措施,展现前瞻性规划的重要性。 1.主旨大意题。根据第二段中“The Getty Museum’s workers took turns working day and night and checked the hilltops surrounding both the Getty Villa and the Getty Center. The older Getty Villa, home to thousands of old and valuable objects, is located in the Pacific Palisades, while the Getty Center in Brentwood houses famous artworks like Vincent van Gogh’s Irises.( 盖蒂博物馆的工作人员轮班日夜值守,对盖蒂别墅和盖蒂中心周边的山顶进行了检查。)”可知,该段主要讲述的是博物馆工作人员为防止火灾所做的努力。D选项“Fire prevention efforts by museum workers.(博物馆工作人员的防火努力)”符合文章主旨。故选D项。 2.细节理解题。根据文章第四段中的“The villa, built with walls and roofs that don’t burn easily, remained unharmed though the fire was very close.(这座别墅的墙壁和屋顶不易燃烧,尽管火势很近,但仍然完好无损。)”可知,盖蒂别墅之所以能在火灾中幸存下来,是因为它的建筑结构能够很好地抵抗火灾。故选B项。 3.推理判断题。文章最后一段提到“In the case of Getty, planning ahead protected its treasures. Such preparedness—from fire-resistant designs to quick-response systems—sets a model.(就盖蒂而言,提前规划保护了它的宝藏。这种从防火设计到快速响应系统的准备树立了一个榜样。)”以及“In the future, as more disasters driven by the climate emergency must happen, the attention of normal people is important: public awareness and support for such protective measures will become increasingly important.(在未来,随着气候紧急情况引发的更多灾难必然发生,普通人的关注很重要:公众对这类保护措施的认识和支持将变得越来越重要。)”由此可推断,作者想要暗示的是提前规划有助于应对灾难。故选D项。 4.主旨大意题。通读全文,文章主要讲述了盖蒂博物馆在洛杉矶野火蔓延时,凭借其强大的防灾准备和措施,成功保护了其珍贵藏品的故事。文章强调了提前规划和准备对于应对灾难的重要性。A选项“Getty’s Preparation Beats Wildfires.(盖蒂的准备战胜了野火)”符合文章主旨,且能够概括文章内容。故选A项。 Is it color or colour? 【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述美式英语和英式英语在拼写上的差异(如color/colour)及其历史起源,包括Samuel Johnson和Noah Webster两位词典编纂者的贡献,以及英国拒绝采纳美国拼写变化的原因。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“In fact, before the American revolution (革命), English lexicographers(词典编纂者)preferred “\-or\” endings over “\-our\” spellings, aiming to reduce French influences on the language.(事实上,在美国革命之前,英语词典编纂者更倾向于“-or”结尾而非“-our”拼写,目的是减少法语对英语的影响。)”可知,革命前词典编纂者偏爱“-or”结尾是为了削弱法语的影响。故选A项。 2.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“In fact, English was indeed a bit of mess as people were spelling words such as “general” as “jinerll”.(事实上,英语当时确实有些混乱,比如人们会把“general”拼写成“jinerll”。)”可知,作者通过列举具体的拼写例子,证明当时英语拼写的混乱。故选B项。 3.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The dictionary became an instant success and forever changed the English language in the US. This is why “colour” became “color”, “centre” became “center”, “masque” became “mask”.(这部词典一经问世便大获成功,并永久改变了美国英语的面貌。这就是为什么“colour”变成了“color”,“centre”变成了“center”,“masque”变成了“mask”。)”可知,美式拼写通常会省略“-our”中的“u”、“-re”结尾改为“-er”。分析选项:A. Kilometre(英式)→ Kilometer(美式);B. Theatre(英式)→ Theater(美式);C. Colour(英式)→ Color(美式);D. Neighbor(美式,英式为 Neighbour)。因此,Neighbor 属于美式拼写。故选D项。 4.主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段“Is it color or colour? Center or centre? Realize or realise? Both are correct. This difference has existed for centuries. You might wonder how this difference came about.(是 color 还是 colour? 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一项关于不同英语口音友好程度的研究,并探讨了人们对不同口音的态度及其背后的原因。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段“According to the study, only 1 in every 100 participants (参与者) considered the South African accent as the most friendly-sounding — a big drop since 2019 when it was considered the second most beautiful accent worldwide, which was an astonishing result for me.(根据这项研究,每100名参与者中只有1人认为南非口音听起来最友好——自2019年以来大幅下降,当时南非口音被认为是世界上第二美丽的口音,这对我来说是一个惊人的结果)”可知,作者对这项研究的结果感到惊讶。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“The study found Americans had the friendliest English accent in the world with one in five seeing the American accent as the friendliest. Though the Canadian accent is the most closely related to general American English, with similar rules for pronunciation and accent, only one in 12 selected it as the friendliest accent. The British accent is considered the second most friendly accent, with one in seven selecting it as the friendliest. The Australian accent came in third place, with almost one in 10 considering it to be friendly.(研究发现,美国人的英语口音是世界上最友好的,每五个人中就有一个认为美国口音最友好。尽管加拿大口音与通用美式英语最为接近,发音和口音规则相似,但只有十二分之一的人选择它作为最友好的口音。英国口音被认为是第二友好的口音,每七个人中就有一个选择它作为最友好的口音。澳大利亚口音排在第三位,几乎每十个人中就有一个认为它很友好)”可知,美国口音、英国口音和澳大利亚口音都被认为比较友好,而加拿大口音被认为最不友好。故选B。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段““If people around the world think American English sounds friendly, it’s good news for Americans because it means people think of Americans as friendly people.”(“如果全世界的人都认为美式英语听起来很友好,这对美国人来说是个好消息,因为这意味着人们认为美国人是友好的人。”)”可知,根据斯特雷卢夫的说法,这项研究可能会让人们认为美国人很友好。故选A。 4.推理判断题。根据第四段““The meanings of Englishes worldwide are also changing rapidly across many dimensions (维度). For example, while British English has historically provided an international model for “correct” English, people who live in countries where English is being learned for getting into the global (全球的) marketplace increasingly prefer American English as their standard,” said Strelluf.(斯特雷卢夫说:“世界各地的英语含义也在许多维度上迅速变化。例如,虽然英式英语历来为“正确”英语提供了国际模式,但生活在以学习英语进入全球市场的国家的人们越来越倾向于以美式英语为标准。”)”可知,斯特雷卢夫提到人们偏爱的英语是为了引起人们对全球英语不断变化的关注。故选C。 People of different nationalities seem to vary in their use of hand gestures, according to a study that seems to support the idea that Italians, in particular, “talk with their hands”. 【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一项研究,该研究证实了不同国家的人在手势使用方面是不同的。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段“Maria Graziano and her colleague Marianne Gullberg, both at Lund University in Sweden, asked 12 people from Sweden and 12 from Italy to describe a video from a children’s TV show to a friend who hadn’t seen it, while examining their hand gestures.(玛利亚·格拉齐奥尼和她的同事玛丽安娜·古尔伯格(两人均来自瑞典隆德大学)让12名来自瑞典的人和12名来自意大利的人分别向一位未曾观看过该儿童电视节目的人描述该节目内容,并同时观察他们的手势动作)”可知,参与者来自两个不同的国家。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“The Swedes mostly used “referential gestures” to demonstrate the events of the story or the characters’ actions, for example showing a rolling pin (擀面杖) when describing baking. The Italians made these gestures as well, but also had more “pragmatic gestures” with which they commented on the story or introduced new information, such as a hand movement to indicate a new character.(瑞典人通常会使用“指代性手势”来展示故事中的事件或人物的动作,例如在描述烘焙过程时会展示擀面杖。意大利人也会做出这些手势,但他们还有一些“实用性的手势”,用于对故事进行评论或介绍新信息,比如通过手部动作来表示新出现的人物)”可知,瑞典人和意大利人的手势功能的主要区别在于意大利人会加入更多实用性的手势。故选A。 3.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Hand gestures are produced in all languages and cultures, and they are not a mere decoration of speech; they are closely related to what we are saying and how we want to say it(手势在所有语言和文化中都存在,它们并非仅仅是言语的装饰;它们与我们所说的内容以及我们想要表达的方式密切相关)”可知,格拉齐奥尼认同手势不仅仅是言语的装饰性元素。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据第一段“People of different nationalities seem to vary in their use of hand gestures, according to a study that seems to support the idea that Italians, in particular, “talk with their hands”.(一项研究表明,不同国籍的人在使用手势方面存在差异,该研究似乎也支持了这样一个观点,即意大利人尤其“会用手表达意思”)”以及文章核心围绕“不同国籍(文化)的人手势使用差异”展开,涉及文化与沟通方式的研究,符合“文化类杂志”的主题定位。可知,文章选自一本关于文化的杂志。故选B。 The Sanxingdui Museum in southwest China’s Sichuan Province enjoyed huge popularity during the threeday Qingming Festival holidays by receiving nearly 20, 000 visitors on the peak day, after the new archaeological discoveries brought international attention. Dating back about 3, 000 years, the Sanxingdui Ruins have shed light on the ancient Shu civilization and cultural origins of the Chinese nation, and have been regarded as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the 20th century. 1.What mainly brought about a surge in tourists visiting the Sanxingdui Museum? A.Tourists’ enthusiasm. B.Sichuan Province’s policy. C.Qingming Festival holidays. D.New archaeological discoveries. 2.What can we infer from the text? A.The official Weibo account linked the museum with the public. B.Newlyexcavated cultural relics on display attracted tourists very much. C.The Sanxingdui Museum reacted immediately to the large flow of tourists. D.Tourist numbers reached the peak on the first day of the Qingming Festival. 3.What does the underlined word “pilot” in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Trial. B.Private. C.Official. D.Personal. 【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章介绍了由于新的考古发现,三星堆博物馆在清明节假期游客激增。 1.细节理解题。根据文章第一段“The Sanxingdui Museum in southwest China’s Sichuan Province enjoyed huge popularity during the threeday Qingming Festival holidays by receiving nearly 20, 000 visitors on the peak day, after the new archaeological discoveries brought international attention.(在新的考古发现引起广泛关注后,中国西南部四川省的三星堆博物馆在清明节三天假期期间受到了极大的欢迎,在高峰日接待了近2万名游客。)”可知,是新的考古发现使三星堆博物馆游客人数激增。故选D。 2.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“To cope with the large flow of people, on Sunday afternoon, the official Weibo account of the Sanxingdui Museum released the message to remind visitors of avoiding rush hours or rescheduling their visiting time.(为了应对大量的人流,周日下午,三星堆博物馆的官方微博账号发布了一条消息,提醒游客避开高峰时段或重新安排参观时间。)”可推知,三星堆博物馆立即对激增的客流量作出了应对。故选C。 3.词句猜测题。根据上文“The museum said although they are open as usual, the newlyfound pits have not opened to the public yet and the newlyexcavated cultural relics are still under restoration and cannot meet the public currently.(三星堆博物馆表示,尽管它们照常开放,但新发现的坑尚未向公众开放,新挖掘的文物仍在修复中,目前无法向公众开放。)”可知,上文提到:博物馆虽然照常开放,但新发现的坑尚未向公众开放,新发掘的文物仍在修复中,目前无法面向公众。此处与画线词所在句是转折关系,结合本段最后一句“Visitors to it can see how the relics are restored(游客可以看到文物是如何修复的)”可知,画线词所在句意为“但一个文物保护和修复大厅将于4月开始试运行,并于5月18日正式开放”。由此猜测,pilot意为“试验性的”,名词短语pilot operation试运行,故选A。 Everyone knows that dogs are supposed to be our best friends . 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.D 4.A 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要探讨了狗是否能够“读心”,即理解人类的情绪和意图。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段“They are more likely to ask for food from someone if there is a reason that the human would know where the dog treats are.(如果人类知道狗零食放在哪里,它们更有可能向这个人要食物。)”可知,狗通常会向知道狗零食放在哪里的人要食物。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“Brain imaging studies have shown not only that canine brains react to human voices, but that they also show an emotional response to those human sounds which demonstrate strong feelings, such as laughing or crying. Brain scan studies have also shown that human faces also provoke an emotional response in dogs.(脑成像研究表明,狗的大脑不仅对人类的声音有反应,而且对那些表现出强烈情感的人类声音,如笑声或哭声,也有情绪反应。脑扫描研究还表明,人类的脸也会在狗身上引起情绪反应。)”可知,脑成像研究对狗的发现是狗对人类的声音和面部表情有情绪反应。故选D。 3.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Experiments like those described above have also been carried out on wolves that have been raised by humans/ who may have learned to respond to their carer’s behaviour, but do not have the genes of a domesticated species/ Wolves did show some abilities to respond to human emotions, but were less able to pick up more subtle clues.(上述类似的实验也在由人类饲养的狼身上进行过,这些狼可能已经学会了对饲养者的行为做出反应,但它们没有驯化物种的基因。狼确实表现出了一些对人类情绪做出反应的能力,但它们不太能够捕捉到更微妙的线索。)”可知,狼的实验说明基因可能在动物理解人类情感线索的能力中发挥作用。故选D。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Whether it’s learned or innate, dogs’ ability to read human emotions and intentions is one reason that we have included them in our lives for centuries. It’s also why they have been successful as assistance dogs, helping their owners to get through everyday life.(无论是后天习得的还是天生的,狗解读人类情绪和意图的能力是我们几百年来一直将它们纳入我们生活的原因之一。这也是它们作为辅助犬成功的原因,帮助主人度过日常生活。)”可知,狗解读人类情绪的能力有助于它们与人类相处。故选A。 We take our speech abilities for granted. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。本文主要讲述了蚂蚁如何通过释放信息素和使用触角进行交流,以及科学家对此进行的研究。 1.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Ants communicate by releasing pheromones (信息素) that function outside of the body to send chemical messages to the ant that receives it and by touching their antennae (触角) to feel and smell each other.(蚂蚁通过释放体外起作用的信息素来向接收信息的蚂蚁发送化学信息,并通过触摸它们的触角来感觉和闻对方的味道进行交流。)”可知,蚂蚁通过触角识别信息素来交流。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“The best example that we can see very clearly is that ants find food sources and drop pheromones on their ways. By using their antennae to detect pheromone trails and following a sweeping pattern, they encounter a trail. The result of these pheromone paths is long lines of ants, marching one behind each other to collect food.(我们能清晰看到的最佳例子是,蚂蚁找到食物源后,会在沿途留下信息素。 根据下文“marching one behind each other to collect food(一只跟着一只前行觅食。)”可知,蚂蚁们排成一行,一个接一个地行进觅食,所以“convoys”的意思是“队列”,选项C“Lines”的意思与“convoys”相近。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The more researchers study ants, the more they discover about their ability to translate information to one another, learn, form collective memories and sound alarms. Ants are truly amazing communicators.(研究人员对蚂蚁的研究越多,他们就越能发现蚂蚁相互传递信息、学习、形成集体记忆和发出警报的能力。蚂蚁真是令人惊叹的交流者。)”可推知,蚂蚁交流的更多秘密仍然未知。故选D。 The US government is currently weighing a crucial decision: whether to grant African lions protection under the Endangered Species Act, which would prohibit the import of lion trophies into the U.S., marking a significant step for an endangered species. 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.B 4.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要探讨了美国是否应将非洲狮列入《濒危物种法案》保护名单,禁止狮子战利品进口,以应对狮子数量急剧下降的问题。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段“The US government is currently weighing a crucial decision: whether to grant African lions protection under the Endangered Species Act, which would prohibit the import of lion trophies into the U.S., marking a significant step for an endangered species.(美国政府目前正在权衡一个关键决定:是否根据《濒危物种法案》给予非洲狮保护,这将禁止狮子战利品进口到美国,这是对濒危物种采取的重要一步。)”可知,如果非洲狮受到该法案的保护,狮子战利品进口到美国将被禁止。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“This practice is also evolutionarily damaging, as it removes the strongest, healthiest males vital for protecting their prides and passing on strong genes to future generations.(这种做法在进化上也是有害的,因为它会移除最强壮、最健康的雄狮,而这些雄狮对于保护它们的狮群和将强壮的基因传递给后代至关重要。)”可知,杀死一只雄狮会削弱狮群的遗传质量。故选D。 3.细节理解题。根据第四段“The money that does come into Africa from hunting pales in comparison to the billions generated from tourists who come just to watch wildlife. S., marking a significant step for an endangered species.(美国政府目前正在权衡一个关键决定:是否根据《濒危物种法案》给予非洲狮保护,这将禁止狮子战利品进口到美国,这是对濒危物种采取的重要一步。)”可知,文章的主旨是美国应该通过禁止狮子战利品进口来保护非洲狮。故选D。 When a new virus like the one that causes COVID-19 appears, developing a vaccine used to take many years. 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.D 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了信使核糖核酸疫苗的工作原理、相较于传统疫苗的优势,及其在对抗多种疾病上的应用前景。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段“When a new virus like the one that causes COVID-19 appears, developing a vaccine used to take many years. Scientists had to grow the virus in labs, which was a slow and difficult process. But a new type of vaccine, called messenger RNA (MRNA) vaccine, has changed everything. (当导致新冠肺炎的新病毒出现时,开发疫苗需要多年时间。科学家们不得不在实验室里培养病毒,这是一个缓慢而困难的过程。但一种名为信使RNA(MRNA)疫苗的新型疫苗改变了一切)”可知,作者通过对比传统疫苗研发方法和mRNA疫苗新方法引出话题。故选D项。 2.词句猜测题。根据第二段“Traditional vaccines often put a impaired or inactive germ into our body to train our immune system. MRNA vaccines are different. They do not contain the virus itself. (传统疫苗通常会将一种受损或impaired微生物注入我们体内,以训练免疫系统。MRNA疫苗是不同的。它们本身不含病毒)”可知,impaired与inactive并列,表相近含义,与“Weakened (弱化的、受损的)”意义相近。故选A项。 3.推理判断题。根据第三段“Once scientists know the genetic code of a virus, they can quickly design the MRNA instructions in a lab. (一旦科学家掌握了病毒的遗传密码,就能在实验室快速设计出MRNA指令)”可知,MRNA疫苗可以被快速设计。故选D项。 4.主旨大意题。通读全文,文章先介绍MRNA疫苗突破了传统疫苗研发的局限,再讲解其工作原理、优势及应用前景,核心是MRNA疫苗带来的医学突破,所以“MRNA疫苗的突破”适合作为文章标题。故选A项。 The UK government has announced a new plan for digital identity (ID) cards. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了英国政府宣布了一项新的数字身份证计划,包括计划的内容、目的、政府对此的看法以及人们对此的主要担忧。 1.推理判断题。根据第二段“Every employer must check this digital ID before someone can start working.
