Grace is a student who came to my class a year ago. Though she has already turned 60, Grace looks so fit and 1 with a bright smile and an enthusiastic (热情的) attitude. I am Grace’s teacher in class, but I feel she is my teacher in life.
For my 2-hour class every Saturday morning, Grace has to take a 3-hour round trip. But she is never 2 for class. Grace is very passionate about learning English. She often says, “Don’t 3 me as a 60-year-old. I am just a new beginner who wants to learn anything 4 . You know, I am very excited to come to the class!” So I feel a strong sense of 5 to make sure what I teach makes sense to her.
Grace came to me only with very 6 English skills, but she turns out to be a very fast learner because she always puts English 7 in daily life. I check her 105 before every class. It is usually not what I 8 for the class, but rather it is something that she 9 to put together. I feel 11 to have a student like Grace. She has 12 me so much. Our interaction is a great learning 13 for both of us. Though I have no idea why she learns English, I hope I can help her 14 her dream, whatever it is.

I feel 11 to have a student like Grace. She has 12 me so much. Our interaction is a great learning 13 for both of us. Though I have no idea why she learns English, I hope I can help her 14 her dream, whatever it is.

Apart from German, the first foreign language I even learnt was French, but it didn’t go very well. My mother asked our neighbour to teach me when I was seven. French wasn’t his 1 language, but he used to live in Paris, so he could speak with fluency. However, 2 his help, the words felt strange on my tongue, and I couldn’t keep the new 3 straight in my mind. Also, I just didn’t think that it 4 my daily life in any way. Thus, I eventually 5 .
During the new semester of my senior high school, my 6 towards language learning changed. Our German teacher was Mrs. Hans: a tall, slim, graceful lady. Before my grandma passed away, our family had spent every Thanksgiving at her house. Her home was always warm, with the oven and stove 1 since morning. She would prepare a 2 , including pies, meats and vegetables, among which the rice and gravy (肉汁) was my favorite. It’s what comes to 3 when I think of Thanksgiving.
Growing up half Chinese and half American, I used to feel like I didn’t 4 either culture. The 5 of my Chinese heritage — neither Cantonese at home nor traditional Chinese holiday celebration — made me feel that I wasn’t “Chinese enough”. This feeling 6 from the history of my family. When my grandma’s parents first came to America, they had to 7 a new environment and had difficulty adapting to it. My grandma was even advised to integrate into the local culture instead of just 8 her Chinese heritage. Now I gradually accept my mixed 10 . It’s a symbol of progress and 11 . Like the now-common phrase “long time no see” 12 from Chinese, rice and gravy is a similar type of cultural translation. Li Cheng, 20, a college student and engineering enthusiast from Southwest China’s Chongqing, is making waves by turning his dreams into reality.
Employing his knowledge, insights and 1 , Li has invented a groundbreaking Braille (盲文) dot display 2 for the blind. Named “Argus”, the first bunch of the Braille dot display is expected to be 3 this summer.
Li said his idea for Argus was traced back to the end of his freshman year in 2021. One day, when he was reading a novel on his phone, a series of questions 4 his mind: “How do 5 impaired (受损的) people read? How can I help them out?” His 6 led to research on the topic, including interacting with those who experienced daily 7 . However, when he put his idea into practice, the expensive material jumped in the way.
In the past year, Li’s team has managed to 8 costs by 40 percent after rounds of trial and 9 , and eventually succeeded in reconstructing a device that overturns the 10 physical approach to the present electromagnetic approach. The first-generation Argus is 11 between 8,000 to 10,000 yuan, with plans to introduce a more 12 entry-level version with basic functions.
13 , Li plans to devote three to five years to boost Argus. Overseas promotion is also scheduled for next year, with 14 to integrate the core technology—high-density tactile sensing (高密度触觉传感) —into virtual reality applications and potentially develop 15 companion robots, with the aim of improving people’s domestic lives.
