This summer, I went to my grandpa’s house in the countryside. There were no televisions or computer games, but that didn’t make me bored at all. Instead, I made friends with kids there quickly. Every morning, we ran to the hills behind the village to pick wild berries with excitement. In the afternoon, we caught grasshoppers (蚱蜢) in the golden fields. Those little insects jumped so fast, ▲ —some ran to stop their way, others caught them carefully in glass bottles. We let them go after a while.
The nights were the best part of my trip. After dinner, we sat on the grass. The sky was dark, but the stars shone brightly like diamonds (钻石). For the first time, I saw the Big Dipper. Its seven stars looked just like a big spoon, and my friends told me how to find it easily. All the kids sat there, sharing things about the stars. I felt surprised by the night sky’s beauty—it was a whole new world, so different from the city.
Nowadays, many of us are lost in short videos or online games. They look at screens for hours daily. However, the simple life in the countryside taught me that the beauty of the real world is far more amazing than any online game. A new study has shown how the color of a bowl can influence the taste of the food it holds.
Although it is hard to say what a picky eater is like, the type may include people who have a limited diet, who have strong likes or dislikes for some food, who require food to be prepared in a special way or who aren’t willing to accept new food.
According to this new study, food was put into two groups in red, blue, or white bowls. While the color made no difference in taste for non-picky eaters, the picky eaters reported changes in their taste senses based on the color of the bowl being used. Food in red and blue bowls was thought to have more salt than that in white bowls, while food in red bowls was less pleasant than that in the other bowls.
“This finding can be useful for those who want to try more kinds of foods,” says Lorenzo Stafford, a psychologist from the University of Portsmouth in the UK. For example, if you want to encourage a picky eater to try some bitter vegetables, you can try to put them on a pink plate or in a yellow bowl, because this can give him or her a sweet feeling.”
At first it may seem strange that a bowl color can influence the taste of food, but the research before has shown how light and music can influence eating habits. All of our senses are connected, including taste.
“This new study can help in treating food neophobia—the unwillingness to try new food.” the team of the study says, and further studies will be needed to find out more relationships between colors and foods.
“Through further studies, maybe we can decide ways to help actively influence a person’s diet, and as a result, his health in mind and body.” says Stafford.

We often say that we should “live in the moment”, enjoying what we are doing right now-perhaps by looking at the world around us or focusing on just one thing at a time. However, it’s very simple to spend time thinking about the future. Experts (专家) say that this can be good for us, too—especially when we’re thinking about the holidays we’d like to take!
Long before you pack your bags, get on a plane or put your feet in the sea, thinking about your holiday can have a good effect (影响) on your mind. Expert Matthew Killingsworth did research (研究) on this subject. “We spend a lot of our mental lives living in the future,” he said.
Looking to the future can make us happy if we know that good things are coming. As Killingsworth said, “Travel is an especially good thing to look forward to.” He says that we can start enjoying a trip as soon as we start planning it. We know that vacations are short, so we enjoy every moment of them, even before they start.
Even if you don’t have a holiday coming up, searching online for places to visit and things to see can make you happy. Picturing your future trip will make you look forward to all the fun you’re going to have.
One thing that doesn’t feel so good, however, is the end of the holiday

In the future, will our lives be filled with robots? This is a question that many people, especially young students like you, often ask. The answer might surprise you!
Robots have been around for a long time, but mainly in factories doing heavy lifting and repetitive (重复性的) jobs. However, as technology grows, robots are becoming smarter and capable of doing a wide range of jobs.
Imagine waking up in the morning and having a robot make your breakfast, clean your room, and even help you get ready for school. While this might sound like science fiction, it might soon be real. Scientists and engineers are working hard to develop robots that can help us daily.
In healthcare, robots are already being used in hospitals to help doctors with surgeries (外科手术) and to care for patients. They can perform precise (精确的) movements and don’t get tired, making them ideal for long and complex procedures. In the future, we might even see robots that can detect diseases early and provide personalized (个性化的) treatment plans.
But robots aren’t just for work and healthcare. They can also be great companions, playing games with you, telling stories, and even helping you with your homework. This might sound like a dream, but researchers are already working on creating robots that can understand emotions and interact with humans in a more natural way.
Of course, with the rise of robots, there are also concerns (担心) about job losses and the impact on society. But experts believe that robots will create new jobs and opportunities, rather than replacing humans entirely (完全地). They will work alongside us, helping us to be more productive and efficient.
So, will people have robots? Of course! As technology advances, robots will play an important role in our lives. They will make our lives easier, more convenient, and more enjoyable. All we need to do is embrace this new world and learn how to work with our robotic friends.
1.What were robots mostly used for in the past?
A.Playing games with people. B.Helping nurses to care for patients. C.Helping with lifting and repetitive tasks in factories.
2.What can we know from the passage?
A.Robots will create new jobs and opportunities.
B.Robots will only be used in factories.
C.Robots will replace humans entirely.
3.What does the underlined word “embrace” in the last paragraph mean?
A.抵抗 B.拥抱 C.忽视
4.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.How to make friends with robots in daily life.
B.Robots will become an important part of our lives.
C.Job losses and impact on society that robots bring us.

Some people don’t want to make small talk at work. They think they shouldn’t talk about things that have nothing to do with their job, or their partners will think they aren’t serious about their work. And others might not enjoy small talk about themselves.
But small talk is important. It can help you a lot. It shows you’re friendly and caring about your partners. You become a better team member. If not, others might feel uncomfortable (不舒服的) around you and think you’re unfriendly. Peter Harper, a manager (经理) says, “We always look for friendly workers who know how to talk with each other and our customers (顾客). ”
Here is some advice for making successful small talk. You can talk about the weather, news, hobbies, TV programs, famous people and so on.

“How was your weekend? ” “Did you see the game on TV last night? ” “Isn’t the weather beautiful today? ” These questions and the answers to them are examples of “small talk”—the short, friendly conversation that people have with friends and parents.
You can also share something about your family such as birthday parties. Remember not to talk about money or age, because they are too personal. Listening is an important part of small talk.
