It had many toys there. Every Friday afternoon, I went to Aunt Evie’s home with my parents. The adults would sit around a table in the dining room, eating pie and talking, while I played in the dollhouse for hours. Sometimes I would pick up these lovely toys and place them in different positions. It was really fun. One time I asked Aunt Evie where she got the toys so that I could buy some, too. To my disappointment, Aunt Evie said that most of them were specially handmade gifts from her friends and couldn’t be bought anywhere. One such toy was a little bear, which was my favorite. It was so beautiful that I wanted to own it badly. “If I take it, Aunt Evie may not notice it. ” I said to myself. Therefore, on a Friday afternoon, I attempted to take the little bear away from Aunt Evie’s dollhouse. I had to wait until nobody was watching me, and it took me hours to get the courage to put the little bear in my pocket. Once I got the little bear, I couldn’t wait to go home. I had to hide it somewhere at home, so that no one would know I took it. That night after I went home with my parents, I couldn’t go to sleep. “What a bad person I am! I stole something from my loved Aunt Evie.” I thought. When I woke up the next morning, I felt awful, but I couldn’t tell my parents, let alone return the little bear to Aunt Evie. I was embarrassed about my behavior. At some point, I started to hate the little bear and myself. And I knew if I didn’t do something, I wouldn’t get away from those bad feelings. So I decided to tell my mom what I had done. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ My hand was shaking when I rang the doorbell of Aunt Evie’s house. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川宜宾第三中学校・期末) There was a little boy named Johnson, who lived with his father in their attractive little cottage near a forest. They didn’t have much but were content with the little they had. Every day after he came home from school, Johnson would accompany his father to the forest to collect firewood. One day, when Johnson was in the forest collecting wood, he came across a puppy (幼犬) which seemed to be all alone. Johnson looked here and there for his owner but in vain. So he picked him up, put him under his shirt and carried him home. Having reached home, he said to his father, “Dad, I found a little puppy alone in the forest! Can we keep him, please?” Feeling Johnson’s happiness, his father couldn’t decide whether to keep the puppy or not at the time. He told him, “Oh, Johnson, that’s the cutest puppy I’ve ever seen! But we don’t have much. What will we do about his food and sleeping arrangement?” Johnson replied, “It’s OK. I’ll give him half of my meals and let him sleep with me in my bedroom.” Hearing this, Johnson’s father just nodded. Johnson was wild with joy, and he named the puppy Rigo. From that day onwards, Johnson and Rigo became the best friends. Rigo followed Johnson wherever he went. When Johnson went to school, Rigo would patiently wait outside the classroom till the classes ended. At night, Rigo slept next to Johnson on his tiny bed and dreamed sweet dreams. On one particular day, Rigo was sick, unable to follow Johnson so he stayed at home. That day it rained heavily, and the roads everywhere turned slippery (湿滑的). On his way home, Johnson was trying to reach home as soon as possible as he imagined Rigo waiting for him and keeping him warm. Unfortunately, Johnson missed seeing a hole at the side of the road and fell down the hole! He cried for help, hoping to be heard by passers-by. But due to the loud thundering and noise of the heavy rain, no one heard him. Johnson was trapped in the hole, not knowing whether he could be rescued. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rigo barked and ran around the hole anxiously. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 3 (25-26 高二上・四川遂宁射洪中学校・期中) Melissa was a single parent of three small children, working at a low-paid job. Money was always tight and she had to work hard to make ends meet. But they still felt blessed with a roof over their heads, food on the plate, clothes on their backs, and even if not a lot, always enough. Not knowing they were poor, the kids just thought their mother was strict in money management. Melissa was really glad about that. Christmas was just around the corner. Although there wasn't budget for a lot of gifts, Melissa planned to please the kids with a family party. She prepared weeks ahead of time, asking one by one what the kids wanted for Christmas. Fortunately, Melissa managed to spare $ 80 dollars for the whole family to enjoy the fun of Christmas shopping. The big day arrived. Mellissa drove the kids to a nearby Walmart and gave each kid a twenty-dollar bill. “Now, my children,” she announced, “you have two hours to pick a gift in the supermarket. Then we will meet back at the gate.” Excited, the children scattered (四散) and rushed into the supermarket. Melissa smiled. She looked at her own note and put it back into her pocket. Well, the Melissa smiled. She looked at her own note and put it back into her pocket. Well, the children's shining faces were the most precious Christmas gift for her, weren't they? Sitting in the car, she waiting patiently, imagining what gifts the kids would choose. She couldn't wait to share their joy. Two hours later, the kids came back one by one. Tom and Tick rushed to their mother, eyes twinkling with excitement. They showed their gifts to Melissa and jumped with joy. The third child, Ginger, was obviously left behind, who dragged her feet to the car. To everyone's surprise, Ginger was empty-handed. Melissa said nothing, asked the kids to get into the car and headed home: 注意: 1. Driving home, everyone was talking about their gifts in high spirits except the youngest daughter, Ginger. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “We have so much, but the homeless man doesn't have anything,” Ginger explained. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 4 (24-25 高二上・四川资阳安岳中学・期中) There were once two rabbits, Wanda the Wise and Frederick the Foolish, who were walking through a field. They were good friends and enjoyed their wander together. On this walk, they came upon two carrots. One of the carrots had large leaves coming out of the top and the other looked much smaller from the surface. Frederick was excited and ran up to the carrot with the larger leaves. “I’ll have this one.” he proudly exclaimed and proceeded to pulling it out from the ground. Wanda shrugged her shoulders and pulled out the other carrot, which turned out to be much bigger. Frederick was surprised and asked how this could possibly be. Wanda looked at her friend and replied, “You can’t always judge a carrot by its leaves.” They kept on walking and came across another pair of carrots, again with different sized leaves. This time Frederick allowed his friend the first pick. Wanda hopped to each carrot, inspected (检查) and sniffed them carefully and, to Frederick’s surprise, chose the carrot with the larger leaves. As they each pulled their carrots out from the ground, Frederick was confused to see that his carrot was still smaller than Wanda’s. “You said that carrots with larger leaves are not always larger. I thought carrots with small leaves meant larger ones.” he said. “No,” replied Wanda, “I said don’t judge a carrot by its leaves. It’s also important to remember to think before you choose.” Frederick nodded and they ate their carrots before continuing their stroll. For a third time, they found two carrots, again with different sized leaves. Frederick looked confused and didn’t know what to do. Wanda indicated that he could choose which carrot to eat. Frederick, the poor foolish rabbit, didn’t really know what to do. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Wanda smiled warmly, hopped over to the bigger carrot and pulled it out to his friend. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 5 (25-26 高二上・四川宜宾成都外国语学校) The continuous knock on the door brought me quickly from my kitchen. I hurried to answer. We had just moved into the neighbourhood and I couldn’t imagine who it would be. Opening the door, I saw an old man dressed in dirty clothing. From his hand hung a torn plastic (塑料制的) bag. “Can I help you?” I asked, hoping he had the wrong address. “Would you like to buy some fresh garden vegetables?” he said. “Are they from your garden?” Looking inside his bag, I saw mostly dirt, with several carrots. “Yes.” His voice was soft. “And I can get some apples from a tree in my yard. Would you like some of those too?” My heart softened, and I wondered if he really needed the bit of money he was asking for his produce. I asked him in. “Please step inside and I’ll get my wallet.” The next day, he knocked at our door again. This time, my little four-year-old Heidi got there first. “Oh, hello. Would you like to come in for tea?” Without hesitating, the old man stepped inside and held out a broken basket with several apples resting at the bottom. “You might like to make a pie,” he said. There was no mistaking the wistful (渴望的) look in his eye. We sat at the kitchen table and drank our tea. Great excitement at hosting a visitor was obvious in my three children’s never-ending stream of questions. “What is your name? Where do you live? Why are your clothes so dirty?” The homeless-looking man laughed as he answered each question. His name was Mr. Locket and he lived around the corner. His wife had passed away several years before, and his children lived far away. He was lonely. His need for companionship ( 交往) had sent him door to door under the ruse (计策) of selling fruit and vegetables. Ours was the only door opened to him that day. Finally, the cookies were gone and he rose to his feet. On his way to the door, he turned and offered us a cheerful smile and a wave goodbye. He had promised to return tomorrow, and I knew what I wanted to do. The next day, the children excitedly waited for his visit. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, we found a basket sitting on the step. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 6 (25-26 高二上・四川绵阳南山中学) “Hurry up you guys, or you’ll be late for school!” called Mom. We dashed downstairs and had a quick breakfast. I was eating my favorite — very sweet cereal, and Sara was having eggs. When I rose to have my bowl washed, Mom whispered, “You know you need to be cautious today when you’re walking Sara to school. It’s your job to assure me she gets there all right.” Then she cast me a very serious look. I thought to myself, wondering why Mom was making such a big deal out of this. I was Sara’s first day of kindergarten, but I could manage it. It wish Mom wouldn’t treat me like such a baby. “Goodbye, Mom!” Sara yelled. She ran out the door, and I went behind her. “Be careful!” my mom yelled. “I will!” I said back and ran outside. Sara was skipping down the front walkway to the sidewalk. I grabbed Sara’s hand. “Are you eager and excited for your first day of school?” I asked, trying to sound like a grown-up. Sara smiled and nodded her head yes. Meanwhile, my mom was staring at us through the window. “When will she stop treating me like a little kid?” I thought. “I’ll show you the way.” I said, I felt proud to be the elder sister. We walked past beautiful gardens and big, leafy trees. Suddenly, I heard a growl and saw a dog walking towards us. He was big and fierce looking with long sharp teeth. “GRRR!!!” the dog growled. I didn’t see its owner or anyone who could help us. My hand became sweaty and Sara stopped walking. “I’m scared, Julie,” she said. I didn’t want her to be scared. I wanted to seem brave. “Everything will be okay,” I said. “GRRR!!!” The dog stepped closer and we could see it was the size of a small horse — with red eyes and sharp teeth. I was trying to make my voice sound calm. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I told Mom what had happened. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 7 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸县第二中学・期末) Neha was very upset because her little sister spilled water on her science project. This was not the first time that her sister had damaged her schoolwork. So, Neha asked her parents to buy her a study table with drawers where she could safely keep her books. Neha's parents could not afford to buy a brand new table. However, they agreed to buy her a second-hand table. One day after school, Neha's mother took her to a second-hand furniture store, so that she could buy a table of her choice. Neha accidentally opened a drawer in an old black table. And, guess what she found? A small transparent (透明的) plastic bag with some rupee (卢比) notes inside. “Am I the luckiest twelve-year-old? My birthday is coming up soon. With this money, I can buy myself a great many presents ... maybe a bicycle, books, dresses ... and maybe I can even buy things for my family,” Neha thought. She was overcome with greed (贪婪) and quickly pushed the bag to the back of the drawer. She went to her mother and told her that she wanted to buy that black table. Neha's mother told her that the table looked too old and she should look for something better. “No! I like this one,” Neha insisted. She was feeling scared inside but her greed made her lie. Neha could not wait until everybody left after the table was organized in her room. She locked the room and quickly opened the drawer and took out the plastic bag with the rupee notes inside. There was a note in the money bag. It seemed that some old lady was saving the money for her children and grandchildren. Neha began counting the money. She could hear her heart beat louder and louder and finally she counted twelve thousand rupees. But now, with all the money she had, she thought she would have to make up many lies in order to spend that money and would have to hide the money all the time. With her heart still racing, Neha gathered the strength to face up to what she had done. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Together, the three of them went back to the store, where the shop owner offered to help. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 8 (24-25 高二下・四川绵阳中学实验学校) Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible. “Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.” Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently. “The second word: contribution,” Mr. White said. “So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down. Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!” Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter’s was an English-Chinese dictionary — the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought. After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,” he whispered. He had spelled it wrong. “What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I’m a master in spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong I’ll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie”. Staring at the red sign “100%” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.” Paragraph 1: Slowly, Peter raised his hand. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Peter looked around and found many of his classmates were smiling at him. Passage 9 (24-25 高二上・四川绵阳南山中学) For many years, I had a recurring (重复出现的) dream. I was a little girl again, rushing about, trying to get ready for school. “Hurry, you’ll be late for school,” my mother called to me. “I am hurrying, Mom! What did I do with my books?” Deep inside I knew where the dream came from. It was about some unfinished business in my life. As a kid, I loved everything about school. I loved books, teachers, tests and homework. Most of all I longed to someday march down the aisle (通道) to receive my diploma. That seemed more appealing even than getting married. But at 15, I had to drop out because my parents couldn’t afford tuition (学费) .My hope of getting a diploma was dead, or so I thought. Pretty soon, I married and had three children, and I thought: “There goes my diploma.” Even so, I wanted my children to be educated. But Linda, our youngest child, had juvenile arthritis (幼年型关节炎) in her hands and knees, which made it impossible for her to function in a normal classroom. I felt really sorry for her and I didn’t want her to live her life with regret. I didn’t give up hope of her being back to school in some way. One day, I saw an ad in the newspaper for evening courses. “That’s the answer,” I said to myself. Linda always feels better in the evening, so I’ll just sign her up for night school. Linda was busy filling out enrollment (入学) forms when the secretary said: “Mrs. Schantz, why don’t you come back to school?” It was exciting to go to school again but it was no game. I laughed: “There’s no way! I’m 55!” But he persisted, and before I knew what I had done, I was enrolled for classes in English and crafts. “This is only an experiment,” I warned him, but he just smiled. So, I told myself to try for just a term and to see if it would work. Anyway, my dream was still there in my heart. It was exciting to go to school again but it was no game. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Linda and I cheered up each other through the time. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 10 (25-26 高二上・四川成都列五中学) The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges. Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them. One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy — his name was Bernard — had interested her very much. “I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don’t see what he can do.” After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara, “His family is suffering so much.” “So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.” For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, “I have a great idea I have a solution that we can all help accomplish (完成).” The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John, “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us? Well, we can make popcorn (爆米花), and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.” When Mrs. Meredith heard of the idea, she thought it was a good one, too. Then Mrs. Meredith searched the internet and ordered a household popcorn machine. After that, Mrs. Meredith, together with her three children, paid another visit to the family and told them about the popcorn plan. Needless to say, they were deeply moved, especially Bernard who finally found a way to make money for his family. A few days later, the machine was delivered to Mrs. Meredith’s doorstep. And it wasn’t long before they got the hang of using the machine to make popcorn. With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 11 (25-26 高二上・四川德阳第五中学) It was terribly cold and nearly dark on the last evening of the old year, and the snow was falling down. In the cold and the darkness, a poor boy was selling goods door to door. He wanted to make some money to pay for his school in the coming new term. He was walking helplessly on the road when he found that he had only one dime (一角钱) left. He was hungry so he decided to beg for a meal at the next house. Lights were shining from every window. Every house must have a family getting together to enjoy a big dinner happily. He was afraid that he would disturb their warm moment. But he was extremely hungry. With his heart beating fast, he slowly put his hand on the door. It was the first time that he had begged for something. He lost his courage when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he just asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so she brought him some milk and bread. He swallowed them down in a flash, and then asked, “How much do I have to pay you?” “You don’t need to give me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught me never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Thank you, and I will never forget about your kindness.” As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it also increased his faith in life. No one knew that he was about to give up and quit before this point. Years later, the woman became seriously ill. The local doctors could not figure out a proper treatment. They had no option but to send her to the big city, where specialists could be called in to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly, now a famous expert in this field, was having an urgent meeting with his colleagues in the consultation room (咨询室), listening carefully to the report of her condition. Paragraph 1: When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: She didn’t know Dr. Kelly had paid her bill in hospital and this morning an envelope with the bill and a note came to her. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 12 (25-26 高二上・四川成都实验外国语学校) As the afternoon sun bathed the local beach with its warm, golden rays, four-year-old William sat on the beach with a mix of expectation and confusion. His dad, Steven, sat by his side. They were waiting for William’s friends to arrive and celebrate his long-awaited birthday party. He kept asking his dad where everyone was, and Steven just told him “they’re coming soon,” trying to ease his son’s growing impatience. But the longer they waited, the more hopeless William became. He was extremely disappointed when the two invited families called and said they could not make it to the celebration because of unexpected situations. Watching his son, who had been eagerly expecting his special day for what seemed like ages, Steven felt a strong sense of guilt. He decided to turn to social media for help. He posted a lovely picture of him and William on the beach, their faces filled with a mix of hope and disappointment. The sincere words with the picture read, “William would love some friends to play with on the beach. To celebrate his fourth birthday, he has Hot Wheels, sand toys, dinosaurs, and we have some snacks and drinks. Any and all are welcome.” William’s wish for companionship produced a strong response from the local people. They flooded the post with messages of support, birthday wishes, and offers to join the celebration. Soon the beach was filled with scenes of joy. Children played together, building sandcastles and sharing their favorite toys. Parents chatted and connected, developing new friendships on the seashore. With laughter and cheer surrounding him, William blew out the candles on his birthday cake, a radiant smile lighting up his face. After hours of laughter and games, the sun began to set. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 话题2 学校生活 Passage 1 (25-26 高二上・四川成都第二十中学校(川大附中)) “For the final exam, instead of a written test, everyone will be required to give a ten-minute presentation on one of the science topics we covered this year,” Mr Marx announced in the quiet classroom, his voice echoing. Angela felt her stomach twist into anxious knots, a familiar feeling that had become all too common lately. When Mr. Marx passed around a sign-up sheet. Angela chose the topic of tadpoles and also made sure to pick the very last turn for presentation days. She wanted to put as much distance as possible between now and the moment she would have to speak in front of the class. As the weeks rolled by, Angela struggled with sleepless nights. Each time she closed her eyes, she imagined herself standing frozen in front of her peers, her mind blank, unable to recall even a single fact about her beloved tadpoles. Each classmate’s presentation felt like a countdown to her own impending doom. When the day finally arrived, Angela could barely eat breakfast. The toast sat untouched on her plate, an unpleasant reminder of her nerves. Her mind, like a whirlwind of anxiety, was unable to focus on anything but the ticking clock. Her heart pounded in her chest as Mr Marx called her name. With trembling hands, she gathered her note cards, their edges crinkled from her anxious grip, and slowly walked to the front of the room. The bright lights felt blinding, but she took a deep breath. “Tadpoles,” she began, her voice wavering slightly, “are frogs or toads at the beginning of their life cycle.” At that moment, she noticed Mr. Marx smiling and nodding encouragingly, a sense of relief washing over her. To her surprise, the words began to flow. “So,” she said brightly after her presentation, “does anyone have any questions about tadpoles?” _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川资阳安岳县安岳中学・期末) “You should go for it,” Artie said, giving my shoulder a squeeze as we stood gazing at the poster. ‘Cinderella — auditions (试镜) this Thursday after school,’ the words proclaimed. “Me?” My voice came out as a frightened squeak. “Come on, Amy. You probably know the entire play off by heart. You are the best person for Cinderella.” he encouraged. I knew he was joking, but the truth was, I could tell you every single line (台词) in the play. When we reached the hall on Thursday, I began to wish I hadn’t signed up to be Cinderella. It was easier to feel hopeful several days ago when my name was the only one on the sign-up sheet. Since then, seven other girls have added their own names to the list, including Sherry Anderson, the head cheerleader Luckily, we were given a moment to practice before the auditions began. “Good,” Mr Cordoza said approvingly as he stopped by and listened to my practice. I felt a glimmer of hope. “Now let’s see how you get on performing on the stage in front of everyone.” He clapped his hands for attention, signaling the start of the auditions. Sherry Anderson was up first. She showed great confidence as she tossed her long blonde hair and recited her lines. Although she lacked an understanding of the lines, her performance was attractive. Then it was my turn. As I climbed the stairs to the stage, I tripped, nearly falling flat on my face. I felt my cheeks burning. “When you’re ready,” Mr Cordoza said, sounding impatient. “Sorry,” I mumbled. I tried to calm my breathing, but the nerves tightened in my throat. “I...I…” I stuttered. ‘Speak up, Amy, can’t hear you!’ jeers and whistles came from the back of the hall. He always called me the nickname “Germy”, which meant “dirty”, instead of my real name “Jamie”. Besides, he was known as a trouble-maker in school. So when the head teacher Mr. Smith asked Del to come to his office, I naturally thought that Del had done something mean to someone. Through the window, I caught sight of a smaller boy crying. Del seemed unhappy, too. He did not return to class that day. All of us were discussing what had happened to him. What else could such an annoying boy do? “He must have hit the boy and was sent home,” I whispered to my friends. Their eyes widened. It felt good to see them so interested in what I said. The next morning, the whole school was talking about Del being expelled(开除) for beating up a kid. I was surprised that my assumptions were passed on so quickly. So when Del walked into the classroom, all the kids were shocked. The kids next to him shift ed their desks away. “What’s your problem?” Del asked. “I don’t want you to attack me,” one kid said. Some laughed. “Yeah, I might,” said Del. I could tell he was joking, but many kids thought he admitted he did beat up someone. During recess(课间休息), Del tried to join the kickball game. “Neither team wants you,” one of the players said. “Why?” Del asked, looking confused. “I always play with you guys.” They ignored him and went on playing. Del sat by himself while the rest of the school enjoyed their recess away from him. Del looked lonely and sad, much different from before. I started to feel sorry for him. Later that day, I learned what really happened. The kid was Del’s little brother and he was crying because their mother fell ill and was sent to hospital. I felt even sorrier for what I said before. I started a rumor(谣言). At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 4 (25-26 高二上・四川南充顺庆区南充高级中学) When entering seventh grade, I was excited about many new things, but one thing really bothered me — I started getting acne (长青春痘). Initially, it was just a little, but then, it seemed like overnight, my face was covered with it. I tried to hide it with my hair, but it just wouldn’t work. I was consumed with worry that my peers would make fun of me. I couldn’t concentrate in class, as my mind was constantly preoccupied with my appearance, causing my grades to slip sharply. I started to feel inferior (自卑的) to my classmates and even avoid interaction with them. I tried to get rid of the acne. I washed my face multiple times a day, using all sorts of acne creams I found. I also avoided snacks that might cause it. But all ended up in vain. One day, our school announced a sports day and the teacher asked us to form our own teams. As a sports enthusiast, I had been eagerly expecting it, but I was scared that no one would join me because of how I looked. Standing in front of the mirror, I kept imagining how my classmates would react when I asked them to team up with me. The fear of rejection held me back from approaching them. But then, Kim came to me, “Do you want to join us for the relay race? I’ve seen you run before and you’ve got the speed. If you join us, we’ll have a good chance to win.” In disbelief, I managed to utter “Yes,” still feeling self-conscious but also incredibly grateful. I, together with another three classmates, signed up for the relay race. We trained for it and discussed strategies together, none paying attention to my acne. Because of my advantage in speed, I was even assigned to run the last leg, which was the most crucial part. Then came the long-awaited sports day. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The experience was a turning point to my junior life. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 专题06 书面表达2大常考话题 话题1 生活故事(常考点) 话题2 学校生活 话题1 生活故事 Passage 1 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸县第二中学等校・期末) Aunt Evie had a dollhouse. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph I: So I decided to tell my mom what I had done. After I told her all the story, I couldn’t hold back my tears. “I can’t live with myself and what I’ve done, ” I said. My mom shook her head in disappointment. “There’s only one way to make this right. You have to return the little bear and apologize to Aunt Evie, ” she said. Seized with fright, I stood frozen to the spot, thinking Aunt Evie would hate me. Eventually, with my mom’s encouragement, I got up the courage to head for Aunt Evie’s home. Paragraph 2: My hand was shaking when I rang the doorbell of Aunt Evie’s house. She unlocked the door, smiled and looked as if she already knew everything. I presented her with the little bear and made my apologies. “I admire your courage to return the bear. I would like to give it to you as a gift for your honesty. You’re always my favorite niece. ”Aunt Evie said. On hearing that, I felt a wave of relief. It had become very late, and Johnson’s mother was worried at home. She called the neighbors, and they formed a search party to find Johnson. Rigo too, was worried, and so he joined them all. They searched high and low but still couldn’t find Johnson. Rigo used his keen sense of smell and went sniffing everywhere. Then Rigo came closer to the hole. Rigo barked and ran around the hole anxiously. Rigo’s behavior drew the search party’s attention, and they ran towards the hole. When they looked into it, they found Johnson sitting and shivering in the darkness, wet and cold. Some people comforted Johnson gently while others fetched a rope quickly and dropped it down to Johnson. He held onto one end and then they pulled him up. Everyone cheered, Rigo jumping around happily. Johnson’s mother hugged him tightly. Johnson thanked everyone for helping him and hugged Rigo lovingly for being his best friend and hero. 词汇激活 行为类 ①四处搜寻:searched high and low/look for around ②紧紧拥抱:hug sb tightly/throw one’s arms around sb ③帮助某人:help sb /give sb a hand 情绪类 ①担心:be worried/be concerned ②感谢每个人:thank everyone/be grateful to everyone 【点睛】[高分句型1] When they looked into it, they found Johnson sitting and shivering in the darkness, wet and cold.(运用了连词when引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Everyone cheered, Rigo jumping around happily.(运用了独立主格结构的用法) Passage 3 (25-26 高二上・四川遂宁射洪中学校・期中) Melissa was a single parent of three small children, working at a low-paid job. I hope he can buy warm clothes or treat himself to a good dinner.” She added, with eyes shining with excitement. He pretended to inspect and sniff them carefully, just as Wanda did, but in vain. He was about to pull the carrot with bigger leaves when he was torn inside. What if the other carrot was bigger? He was at a loss how to tell which carrot was bigger. “My best friend, please help me!” So eager was Frederick to eat the bigger carrot that he stamped his feet, sweating on his head. Wanda smiled warmly, hopped over to the bigger carrot and pulled it out to his friend. Frederick looked to Wanda with a look of disbelief on his face. “Frederick, there’s no point in having wisdom if you’re not willing to share the benefits of it with others. You’re my friend and I want you to have this carrot. A smart rabbit with a full stomach but no friends isn’t really wise, is she?” said Wanda. Frederick hung his head in shame at the thought of Wanda’s generosity. It dawned on him that the possession of friendship made his day. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: The next day, the children excitedly waited for his visit. The table was set with cups and dishes. The delicious smell of apple pies filled the house. As he entered the kitchen, his eyes filled with tears. Pulling up a chair, he immediately seemed at home, and we watched with amazement as he ate up half the pies. “Your pies taste a lot better than mine!” he commented. I smiled and offered him a few tips on making pies. The next day, we found a basket sitting on the step. Inside were several rosy apples. I made another pie that night. As the days passed, Mr. Locket became a daily visitor to our active home. In his quiet and gentle way, he made himself popular with each child. I loved to look around the kitchen door and watch as he sat in our big chair with my children beside him, looking up at him with full attention as he read a children’s book or told a story. 词类激活 行为类 ①进入:enter/get into ②评论:comment/remark ③给:offer/give/hand 情绪类 ①兴奋地:excitedly/thrillingly/feverishly ②惊讶:amazement/surprise/astonishment ③温和的:gentle/soft/peaceful/temperate/mild 【点睛】【高分句型1】 As he entered the kitchen, his eyes filled with tears. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version I was trying to make my voice sound calm. Planting my feet resolutely on the ground, I said to Sara: “Don’t be afraid!” while holding her hand tight. The dog edged closer with the menacing “GRRR!”. “Run!” I exclaimed, we sprinting to the kindergarten. Just as the dog was overtaking us, we threw ourselves inside. It was really close! We exchanged a happy smile. Seeing Sara stepping into the classroom, I turned for home, wanting desperately to narrate the thrilling episode to Mom. I told mom what had happened. There followed no response. Then I saw Mom’s tears. “I am so proud of you! You did what you had promised!” Mom said, holding me in a tight embrace, after which Mom looked into my eyes. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: With her heart still racing, Neha gathered the strength to face up to what she had done. She called her parents into her room, her eyes filled with determination. As they entered, she handed them the plastic bag filled with the unexpected treasure. “Mom, Dad, I found this, but I know it’s not mine,” she said, her voice steady. “Let’s return it and find the rightful owners. I don’t want to keep something that doesn’t belong to me.” Her parents exchanged a look of pride and immediately agreed. They wrapped their arms around Neha, offering words of encouragement. Together, the three of them went back to the store, where the shop owner offered to help. They discovered that the money belonged to an elderly woman who had sold the old black table to the store but forgot to take out the bag in the drawer. So they immediately contacted with the woman and returned the money. Seeing the genuine happiness she had brought to the woman’s life, Neha finally let out a sigh of relief. “This birthday,” she thought, “I’ve gained something more valuable than any gift — the restoration of my honesty.” 词汇激活 行为类 充满:be filled with/be full of 归还:return/give back 想要做某事:want to do sth/would like to do sth 获得:gain/obtain 情绪类 快乐:happiness/pleasure 决心:determination/resolution 【点睛】[高分句型1] As they entered, she handed them the plastic bag filled with the unexpected treasure.(运用了as引导时间状语从句以及过去分词作后置定语) [高分句型2] They discovered that the money belonged to an elderly woman who had sold the old black table to the store but forgot to take out the bag in the drawer.(运用了that引导宾语从句以及who引导的定语从句) Passage 8 (24-25 高二下・四川绵阳中学实验学校) Peter woke up early in the morning. Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn’t get full marks on the test. I made a mistake.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper. He said, “I spelled contribution with ’s-i’ instead of ‘t-i’.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. To his surprise, Mr. White held up Peter’s testpaper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something even more important than spelling every word correctly in a test.” Mr. White smiled at Peter, adding that Peter taught us all a lesson on being honest. ②举起:hold up/put up ③补充说,继续说:add that.../go on saying that... 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment ②笑:smile/beam 【点睛】[高分句型1] He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper. Every night, after putting the kids to bed, I would sit down at the kitchen table with my books, trying to absorb the new information. The assignments were challenging, especially since I hadn’t been in school for so long. But I reminded myself that this was an experiment, and I was determined to make it work. Linda, seeing my efforts, also buckled down to her studies, and we often discussed what we’d learned during the day. Linda and I cheered up each other through the time. Whenever one of us felt discouraged, the other would offer words of encouragement. We knew that we were in this together, and that our shared goal of getting an education was worth every ounce of effort. Over time, we both began to see improvements in our grades, and our confidence grew. I realized that it was never too late to pursue my dreams, and that with determination and the support of my daughter, I could achieve anything. 词汇激活 行为类 ①下定决心做某事:be determined to do sth/make up one’s mind to do sth ② 意识到:realize that/be aware that ③ 实现:achieve/accomplish 情绪类 ① 感到气馁:feel discouraged/lose heart ② 充满信心:our confidence grew/we were full of confidence ③ 感到兴奋:be excited/feel thrilled 【点睛】【高分句型1】But I reminded myself that this was an experiment, and I was determined to make it work.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】Linda, seeing my efforts, also buckled down to her studies, and we often discussed what we’d learned during the day.(运用了what引导的宾语从句) Passage 10 (25-26 高二上・四川成都列五中学) The Meredith family lived in a small community. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. His memory came flooding back to the cold evening and the warm face. “Would it be her?” he thought. Curious to know the answer, he found himself standing outside the patient’s room. Through the window of the door, he saw the face he would never forget. Silently, he turned around and was determined to do whatever he could to save her life. After a long struggle, her health was picking up day by day. She didn’t know Dr. Kelly had paid her bill in hospital and this morning an envelope with the bill and a note came to her. She was afraid to open it because she was sure that it would take the rest of her life to pay off the bill. Taking a deep breath, she opened it with trembling hands, and the handwritten words on the note caught her attention first, which read, “Paid in full with the milk and bread, from Dr. Howard Kelly”. “So,” she said brightly after her presentation, “does anyone have any questions about tadpoles?” _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】      “So,” she said brightly after her presentation, “does anyone have any questions about tadpoles?” A few hands shot up, and Angela felt a thrill of excitement. One classmate asked about the time it takes for tadpoles to transform into frogs, and Angela, recalling her research, confidently answered that it usually takes several weeks to months depending on the species. Another student inquired about their diet, and Angela detailed how they eat algae and small organisms in the water. I could feel that my performance was a disaster. Even Sherry’s lines were better than mine. Finally, I limped to the end of the scene, and as soon as it was over, I rushed off the stage, feeling defeated. As I made my way through the hallway, I spotted Artie waiting for me. He told me that Sherry got the role of Cinderella but I would be the understudy (替角). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the performance, Sherry got sick and couldn’t come. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】He told me that Sherry got the role of Cinderella but I would be the understudy (替角). At the news, I sighed and forced a smile. Sensing my disappointment, Artie put his hand on my shoulder and encouraged, “Seize the chance and you can shine too. Believe in yourself!” His words giving me a burst of confidence, I nodded admittedly, determined to be the best understudy. In the following days, I spent hours every day rehearsing my lines, perfecting my expressions and practicing each act. Gradually, I grew more confident and was fully prepared for the possibility of stepping onto the stage if needed. On the day of the performance, Sherry got sick and couldn’t come. Panic filled the air backstage. Calm outside but nervous inside, I took a deep breath and stepped forward. All those days of hard work and preparation had led to this moment. As the curtains rose, I walked onto the stage with a newfound courage. The lights shone on me, and I delivered my lines with full of passion and confidence. With the music fading away, the audience broke into thunderous applause. At that very moment, I knew I fulfilled my mission as an understudy. That day, I became the star of the show, proving to myself and everyone that chances are for those who are prepared. 词汇激活 行为类 决心做某事:be determined to do sth/make up one’s mind to do sth 为……做准备:be prepared for/get ready for 鼓励:encourage/inspire 情绪类 紧张的:nervous/tense 失望:disappointment/despair 【点睛】[高分句型1]Gradually, I grew more confident and was fully prepared for the possibility of stepping onto the stage if needed.(运用了状语从句的省略) [高分句型2]That day, I became the star of the show, proving to myself and everyone that chances are for those who are prepared.(运用了现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句,who引导定语从句) Passage 3 (25-26 高二上・四川内江第六中学) I didn’t like Del so much. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. Not wanting him to feel left out, I walked over and sat down beside him. “Hey Germy,” he said. “My name is Jamie.” I replied. I wanted to apologize for starting that rumor about him, but I was too ashamed to say it out loudly. “Del, do you want to play kickball with us?” I asked instead. He looked surprised but happy at the same time. After a moment of silence, he nodded his head. Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. I stood up and shouted to the other kids, “Guys, come here! Let’s play kickball together! ” Some of them hesitated, but they eventually joined us. Del was smiling again and so were we. As we played, I realized that Del wasn’t as bad as I thought he was. He was just a normal kid who wanted to have fun and be accepted by others. From then on, whenever someone tried to start a rumor about him, I would stand up for him and tell them the truth about Del. We became good friends, and I learned an important lesson about judging people based on rumors. 说:say/put it 2.道歉:apologize/say sorry 3.接受:accept/recognize 4. 惊讶的:surprised/astonished 2. 快乐的:happy/pleased/delighted 【点睛】[高分句型1]. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Then came the long-awaited sports day. My palms were sweaty as I stood at the final position of the track. When the third runner approached, I grabbed the baton firmly and sprinted like the wind. Cheers erupted as I overtook two opponents. Crossing the finish line first, I saw my teammates rushing towards me with joyful screams. To my surprise, classmates patted my shoulder excitedly, their eyes shining with admiration instead of judgment. Kim hugged me, “You’re our superhero!” No one mentioned my acne — they only remembered my flying figure on the track. The experience was a turning point to my junior life. Gradually I realized people valued my abilities more than my appearance. I started raising my hand in class again and joined the school basketball team. Though acne still occasionally troubled me, I stopped hiding behind my hair. When a new student once asked about my skin, Kim immediately defended, “That’s just his warrior paint from saving our relay race!” We all laughed, and I finally understood true friendship sees beyond surfaces. 词汇激活 行为类 ①超过:overtake/surpass ②抓住:grab/seize ③重视:value/attach importance to 情绪类 ①激动地:excitedly/with excitement ②欣赏:admiration/appreciation 【点睛】[高分句型1] My palms were sweaty as I stood at the final position of the track.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Though acne still occasionally troubled me, I stopped hiding behind my hair.
