【参考范文】
“What should I do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I’m a master in spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I’ll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie”. Staring at the red sign “100%” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”
Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn’t get 100 percent on the test.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper. Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. Mr. White held up Peter’s test paper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something even more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr. White smiled at Peter. “He taught us all a lesson on being honest.”

Architect Liu Jiakun was awarded the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize on Tuesday, making him the second winner from China to earn the highest honor in the field of architecture after Wang Shu in 2012.
Living in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China’s Sichuan province, Liu’s career spans four decades and over 30 projects. He established Jiakun architects in 1999 and is devoted to creating an expansive collection of works ranging from small, beautiful museums and monuments and vast commercial buildings to master plans for cities. “The purpose of architecture is to create a beautiful, just and dignified living environment. People’s real lives, happiness and dignity are what we strive for,” says Liu.
The prize’s jury statement says that “intertwining (交织) seemingly opposing things such as idealism versus everyday existence, history versus modernity, and collectivism versus individuality, Liu offers affirming architecture that celebrates the lives of ordinary citizens”.
Wang, the 2012 Pritzker recipient, tells China Daily that Liu’s winning is encouraging: “His works are very local, yet modern, directly addressing the challenges facing the transformation of contemporary Chinese cities.” Wang says both he and Liu pursue contemporary architecture rooted in tradition. Many architects around the world attempt to do the same, yet their style has never become mainstream. “I believe Liu’s winning holds great significance and will resonate with those architects,” he adds.
Liu’s focus on ordinary people is reflected in his largest project West Village, a five-story urban complex completed in 2015 in Chengdu. The complex includes a football field, paths for cyclists and pedestrians, and a market. The block has become a popular public space and a destination for the city’s residents to spend leisure time.
Hearing the news that Liu won the Pritzker Prize, many netizens who have visited the West Village and the museums he designed expressed that his architecture reflects a precious sense of relaxation, much like the vibrant city of Chengdu itself, which is known for its giant pandas, hotpot and leisurely pace.
24.What do we know about Liu Jiakun?
A.He is the first Chinese winner of the Pritzker Prize.
B.His career spans 40 years with over 30 projects.
C.He founded Jiakun architects in 2012 in Chengdu.

A.Liu Jiakun pays attention to the needs of ordinary people
B.Liu Jiakun’s projects are all large-scale urban complexes
C.public spaces in Chengdu are not popular among residents
D.football fields are unnecessary in urban complex design
27.Which of the following words can best describe Liu Jiakun?
A.Energetic and optimistic.
B.Outgoing and responsible.
C.Courageous and generous.
D.Committed and creative.

Scientists have found a way to use cyanobacteria-usually called blue-green algae (海藻) — to power a microprocessor nonstop for more than six months. The system uses inexpensive and mostly recyclable materials, with its key part being a safe photosynthetic (光合作用的) algae named synechocystis. Their study was published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science.
Paolo Bombelli, a researcher from the University of Cambridge and the main writer of the paper, said, “We were surprised by how steadily the system worked for such a long time. We thought it might stop after a few weeks, but it just kept running.”
As Matthew Sparkes reported in New Scientist, the team made a container with aluminum and clear plastic, then put the bacteria inside. The device, about the size of one AA battery, was placed outside a window in Bombelli’s home from February to August. It successfully powered an Arm Cortex-M0+ processor. The authors explained in the study that this type of processor is widely used in Internet of Things (IoT) devices — like home appliances connected to the Internet. The researchers set the processor to work in cycles: 45 minutes of computing followed by 15 minutes of standby.
Even without light, the cyanobacteria can still generate electrical energy. Scientists guess this is because the algae process some of their stored food in the dark, which creates an electrical current.
Christopher Howe, a professor at the University of Cambridge and co-senior author of the paper, noted, “The growing IoT needs more and more power. We believe this power should come from systems that generate energy, not just store it like batteries. Our photosynthetic device doesn’t run down like a battery because it uses light all the time.”
Right now, the cyanobacteria system isn’t strong enough to run all devices. For example, a desktop computer would need 333 million such algae devices to work normally. But the team says the system could be made larger — though more research is needed to find out how much it can be scaled up.
28.What is the key part of the cyanobacteria power system?
A.Synechocystis. B.A microprocessor. C.Aluminum container. D.Cheap recyclable materials.
29.What allows cyanobacteria to produce energy even without light?
A.Using stored light energy. B.Processing stored food.
C.Absorbing energy from batteries. D.Getting power from IoT devices.
30.What can we infer about the cyanobacteria system from the text?
A.It will soon replace all batteries. B.It has no potential to power large devices.
C.Further research is needed to expand its power. D.It can already power desktop computers normally.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Algae Generates Electrical Energy in Dark B.Scientists Develop Algae-Powered System
C.Cyanobacteria Powers Microprocessor Long D.Cyanobacteria Acts as IoT Device Power Source

The ocean feels boundless. If you were to start swimming from shore, it’s easy to believe — fitness and oxygen aside — you could continue forever. That’s a far different experience to overland travel, where mountains, rivers, and highways jammed with traffic prevents easy passage. It’s equally easy to believe that fish and other highly mobile sea creatures experience the ocean in such a fashion. These animals, adapted over thousands of years to navigate the ocean, must easily bypass (绕过) any barrier around which they can theoretically swim. That assumption, though, is wrong.
It’s common for many oceanic species to stick to specific habitats and only seldom swim beyond them. That is especially true for many immature animals, which are small and easy to fall victim to predators. This, however, can cause unexpectedly big problems for oceanic species, especially when infrastructure (基础设施) gets in the way.
Take, for example, the green sawfish living near the mouth of the Ashburton River in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. In 2017, engineers working on a local oil and gas processing plant built a new loading facility consisting of a large piling jetty (码头) and solid rock wall, which stretched 500 meters offshore. Later, scientists realized that the green sawfish were unable, or unwilling, to pass around the barrier. But that could prevent the animals from reaching valuable feeding grounds and other habitats.
This discovery leads to a surprising new idea: that sea animals, much like land species, need a helping hand getting around human infrastructure. In the case of the green sawfish, engineers could have created underpasses in the jetty through which the fish could swim.
As the climate continues to change, many sea species are moving farther north and they need suitable habitats to move through. Whether creating pass-throughs in artificial structures or plotting routes away from warming oceans, thoughtfully designing our infrastructure could go a long way toward protecting animals as we continue to engineer the ocean.
32.What is the misunderstanding mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.Sea creatures adapt to the ocean slowly.
B.The ocean presents no barriers to sea life.
C.Humans are inherently skilled at sea navigation.
D.Sea travel guarantees easier passage than land travel.
33.What does the underlined word “This” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The impact of human-made structures. B.The risk of being hunted by predators.
C.The behavior of mature oceanic animals. D.The tendency to stay in familiar habitats.
34.Why are the green sawfish mentioned in the passage?
A.To illustrate a point. B.To present a phenomenon.
C.To put forward a new argument. D.To add some background information.
35.What does the author suggest about engineering the ocean?
A.Maximizing economic benefits. B.Prioritizing human infrastructures.
C.Creating underpasses for surfers. D.Accommodating oceanic species’ needs.

Add More Laughter to Your Life
Laughter isn’t just a quick moment of happiness. 36 . All you need are small, fun choices to bring more humor into your day. Here’s how to make laughter part of your everyday life.
37
Laughter grows when you practice gratitude and stay positive. Try seeing challenges as chances to learn, and look for the good in tough situations. Every day, write down three funny or happy moments (even tiny ones!). Every individual can do something interesting. Keep things around you that make you smile - like silly decorations, funny quotes, or small practices like a daily meme (表情包) break.
Do things you love
38 . Make time for hobbies that make you feel like a kid again: dance to your favorite songs, play video games with friends, try painting, or join a comedy club. Fun activities help you relax and laugh more easily. Exercise (like sports, yoga, or even walking) also releases “happy chemicals” in your brain, putting you in a better mood for giggles (咯咯地笑). Treat these activities as important but not optional!
Hang out with funny people
Spend time with people who make you smile. Funny friends find humor in everyday moments — like cracking jokes, sharing funny stories, or laughing at silly things. 39 . Plan fun hangouts: comedy movie nights, board games, or even just playing around at the park. These moments build happy memories you can look back on when life feels stressful.
Don’t take yourself too seriously
It’s okay to laugh at yourself! Embrace mistakes or awkward moments — they make great stories later. Share funny mistakes with friends instead of feeling embarrassed. 40 .
Laughter is free, easy and always there to boost your mood. Remember: Laughter is like a muscle — the more you use it, the stronger it gets.
A.Focus on the bright side
B.Playful experiences create laughter
C.Keep diary about your happy experiences
D.They will offer you more chances to face the challenge
E.The more you can smile at your own silly habits, the lighter life feels
F.It’s a superpower for boosting your mental, emotional and physical health
G.The good atmosphere helps you stop overthinking and just enjoy the moment

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum”, Peter said, “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word: literature,” Mr. White said.
“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark(评分) your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got full marks on the spelling test!”
Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter’s was an English-Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment”, Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “literature” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “L-I-T-E-R-A-T-R-U-E”, he whispered. He spelled it wrong.
Paragraph 1. “What should I do?” Peter said to himself.

D.His works only include museums and monuments.
25.What is a feature of Liu Jiakun’s architectural works?
A.Pursuit of tradition-based modernity.
B.Concentration on outline.
C.Integration with surroundings.
D.Combination with foreign styles.
26.The example of West Village is used to illustrate that ________.

D
【答案】32.B 33.D 34.A 35.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了人类海洋工程对海洋生物的影响及其解决方案。
32.细节理解题。根据文章第一段中“These animals, adapted over thousands of years to navigate the ocean, must easily bypass ( 绕过) any barrier around which they can theoretically swim. That assumption, though, is wrong. (这些动物已经适应了数千年的海洋航行,必须很容易地绕过理论上它们可以游泳的任何障碍。然而,这种假设是错误的)”可知,第一段提到的误解是海洋对海洋生物没有障碍。故选B项。
33.词句猜测题。根据划线词前的“It’s common for many oceanic species to stick to specific habitats and only seldom swim beyond them. That is especially true for many immature animals, which are small and easy to fall victim to predators. (对于许多海洋物种来说,固定在特定的栖息地是很常见的,很少会游到它们范围之外。对于许多未成熟的动物来说尤其如此,这些动物很小,很容易成为捕食者的牺牲品)”可知,然而,这可能会给海洋物种带来意想不到的大问题。这里的“This”指代的是上文倾向于呆在熟悉的栖息地。故选D项。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段“Take, for example, the green sawfish living near the mouth of the Ashburton River in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. 故选A项。
35.细节理解题。 根据文章最后一段“Whether creating pass-throughs in artificial structures or plotting routes away from warming oceans, thoughtfully modifying our marine infrastructure could go a long way toward protecting animals as we continue to engineer the ocean.

【答案】 “What should I do?” Peter said to himself.
