With the growing popularity of the game Black Myth (黑神话): Wukong, it’s important to know that the basic story of the game is changed from the ancient Chinese novel Journey to the West, which is also the inspiration for the famous comic Dragon Ball.
For Chinese players, Journey to the West is a well-known story, but for Western players, they may be unaware of the wider characters and stories in the novel. Playing the game without understanding the background of the story might make it difficult to fully enjoy the game. So today, we’re here to tell some of the key characters and plots in the novel, to help players understand everything they should know before playing the game.
The novel Journey to the West includes 100 stories and tells how Sun Wukong and his partners went through tests and difficulties, finally reaching the West. The tests and difficulties in the novel are almost like different levels in the game.
In the game, players will meet different enemies, all of whom are recreated from Journey to the West.
For example, one of the enemies in the game, Hei Xiong Guai, is a large black bear with fire attacks. When facing his frightening fire attacks, it’s difficult to keep from being burnt or damaged. But if you can find an object called the “Fireproof Mantle” earlier in the game, you can avoid those fire damages. And this “Fireproof Mantle” actually comes from the novel, Journey to the West. In the novel, the Elder Jinchi and Hei Xiong Guai, in order to steal TangSanzang’s kasya robe (袈裟), set fire to the temple. They wanted to burn Tang Sanzang and SunWukong to death. Sun Wukong borrowed the “Fireproof Mantle” from the gods to protect TangSanzang from the disaster.
This plot not only explains the background story of the “Fireproof Mantle”, but also helps players understand the characters in the game. So when you meet an enemy in the game that is too difficult to deal with, you might try to search for his story in the novel because it could be helpful for you to beat him.

The skillful hands, which had saved over 16,000 lives, belonged to China’s leading liver (肝脏) expert, Wu Mengchao. This highly-respected person died at the age of 99 on May 22,2021. He made important breakthroughs in studying liver disease.
Wu grew up in Malaysia as a child. When he was in the middle school, wars broke out in China and the country was under attack. Wu returned to China to help his country. He decided to become a doctor that could save lives and improved people’s health. When his teacher learnt about Wu’s decision, he suggested Wu should focus on the field of liver disease, because China had little research on it at that time.
To study liver disease, it is important to learn how blood moves in the liver. But there were no models to show how blood moved in the liver at that time. Wu thought of a way. He could pour some hot material (材料) into the blood vessels (血管) in a liver. When the material cooled down, he could destroy the liver. The material would remain in the shape of the blood vessels. However, no matter what materials he tried, they disappeared with the livers. Wu’s team felt sad at the experiment results.
One day, when Wu heard the news of China table tennis team winning the Olympic games, he felt proud of his country all day. That night, he had a strange dream about swimming in a pool of table tennis balls. “That’s it!” He woke up. “That would be the right material!” Wu’s team then tried the material from the table tennis ball. This time, when they destroyed the liver, a perfect model of the blood vessels appeared!
In the same way, the team made over 100 models that helped Chinese doctors understand the liver better. Wu kept solving problems after problems in the study of liver disease. He was awarded Top 10 Touching China Figures in 2011 for his lifelong achievements to save patients.
33.Why did Wu want to become a doctor first?

C.His teacher advised him to become a doctor.
D.He dreamed to become a liver expert in China.
34.Why did Wu’s experiment fail at first?
A.His team always let him down. B.He couldn’t keep material in shape.
C.The material was too expensive to get. D.He didn’t follow the expert’s suggestion.

Nowadays many people go camping for fun. Camping can be enjoyed in the backyard or deep in the wilderness. Whether camping for one night or several weeks, being prepared is the key.
Endless fun
Once the tent, your base, is put up and the fire area is prepared, there is lots to do. Fishing and hiking are just some of the fun activities. At night, campers often sit by the fire, talking and telling stories. If the weather turns rainy, campers usually wait it out in their tents, reading, drawing or playing games.
Required equipment
Shelter, bedclothes, food and water are necessary. Deciding what else you will need depends on the kind of camping trip you are planning and the length of your trip. Pack light if you are going to carry equipment any distance. Clothing should be prepared enough to protect against weather and insects. A hat, whistle, bug repellent (驱虫剂) and rope may come in handy. Don’t forget a flashlight, a compass, cookers and a first-aid box.
Various tents

Proper locations
Where you decide to set up your campsite is very important. Look for a high and dry location if it rains. The ground should be levelbecause hills and rocks are uncomfortable to sleep on. A sunny exposure (接触) in the morning with shade in the afternoon is ideal.
Wherever you camp, it is important to respect the environment around you. If you are in a park, make sure to follow its rules. Put your garbage and waste in rubbish bins. If you are in the wilderness, keep noise to a minimum and do not disturb the plants or animals.
37.If the camper faces a strong wind, which kind of tent might be the best choice?
A.Lean-to tents. B.Pup tents. C.Alpine tents. D.Dome tents.

Proper locations
Where you decide to set up your campsite is very important. Look for a high and dry location if it rains. The ground should be levelbecause hills and rocks are uncomfortable to sleep on. A sunny exposure (接触) in the morning with shade in the afternoon is ideal.

There are many types and styles of tents. You should choose your tent based on your needs. If you are camping alone in the backyard, a simple lean-to or small tent may do. If you are camping with your family, a larger cabin tent or camping trailer may be best.
Proper locations
Where you decide to set up your campsite is very important. Look for a high and dry location if it rains. The ground should be levelbecause hills and rocks are uncomfortable to sleep on. A sunny exposure (接触) in the morning with shade in the afternoon is ideal.
