First Aid for Minor Burns

Minor burns are common kitchen injuries. Follow these steps carefully to treat them properly and prevent infection.

Step 1: Cool the Burn Immediately
As soon as a burn happens, place the burned area under cool running water for at least 10 minutes. Do not use ice or icy water as this can damage the skin further. The water should be cool but not freezing cold.

Step 2: Remove Jewelry Gently
If there's any jewelry on or near the burned area, remove it carefully before swelling starts. Swelling usually begins within minutes and can make later removal painful or difficult.

Step 3: Cover the Burn
After cooling, pat the area dry with a clean cloth. Then cover it with a sterile non-stick bandage. Avoid using cotton balls as fibers can stick to the wound. Important: Do not break any blisters
