Dear Mike,
I’m glad to help you plan your trip to the Forbidden City. From Beijing Friendship Hotel, I suggest you take the subway. It’s fast, cheap, and good for the environment.
First, walk to Weigongcun Subway Station (about 5 minutes). Take Subway Line 4 and get off at Xidan Station. Then, change to Line 1 and get off at Tian’anmen East Station. The Forbidden City is just a short walk from Exit B.
The whole trip takes about 40 minutes and costs only 5 yuan. It’s much quicker than a taxi during rush hour. You also avoid traffic jams.
