If you place all the English letters in order and use a number to stand for(代表) ____13____ of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c… and z for 26, you can change an English word into a number. So, knowledge becomes: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96, love becomes:12+15+22+5=54, and ____14____ becomes: 12+21+3+11=47. These words can’t become 100. They are not big enough to ____15____ that score. What about health? It can’t either
Then what else can you think of? Don’t be worried. You may have problems in your life along the way, but ____16____ a problem comes up, you’ll find solutions. The ____17____ is to change your attitude (态度). Attitude is the correct word with a full mark: 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100. And it holds the real meaning of living fully.
Different attitudes give you different life lessons. They will teach you to grow through every experience. You may make your dreams come true if you ____18____ bad attitudes. With a good attitude, you’ll be brave enough to face any trouble, and what seems impossible at first will become ____19____ in the end. It’s also useful to take an active attitude towards failure. When the clock turned one, a light appeared in the room. Scrooge jumped up from his bed, and found himself face to face with a ghost, the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Scrooge looked at it with his eyes wide open. It was very strange. Its long hair was white like an old man’s, but there were no wrinkles on its face. It wore a white tunic (袍子).
When the Ghost took Scrooge and flew towards the window of the second floor, he was afraid. “I’m a mortal (凡人),” said Scrooge, “I’ll fall.”
The Ghost laid its hand on Scrooge’s heart and said, “You won’t fall!”
As it spoke, they passed through the window. And they stood on a country road.
“Good Heavens!” said Scrooge, as he looked around. “I grew up here. I was a boy here!”
They walked along the road. And Scrooge remembered every tree and every gate. All these boys were happy and shouting to each other. A feeling of nostalgia filled his heart
“They are only shadows (幻影),” said the Ghost. “They can’t see us.”
Scrooge knew all the boys and he looked at them with smiles. They were all his classmates. But why was he so happy to see them? Why was he happy when they called Merry Christmas to each other?
“The school is not quite empty,” said the Ghost. “One child is still there.”
“I know,” said Scrooge with tears in his eyes.
They soon came to a long, empty classroom. At one of the desks, a lonely boy was reading a book. Scrooge sat down on a bench and cried.
He sat there for a long time.
“I wish back then, I could just run out and enjoy the Christmas with my classmates,” Scrooge said, after drying his eyes with his sleeve, “but it’s too late now.”
“What’s the matter?” asked the Ghost
“Nothing,” said Scrooge. “There was a boy singing a Christmas carol (颂歌) at my door last night. I would like to give him some money now. But it’s too late.”

①Winter is a time when many people catch colds (感冒). It helps to know more about them and ways to protect us.
②There are two different kinds of cold. The first kind is the common cold. Cold weather, germs (细菌) and common viruses (病毒) can all be the cause. If you have a runny nose, a sore throat, or a light cough, you probably have a common cold. The common cold usually just affects your breathing system, so it usually doesn’t make you feel very sick and you can get better in about three days.
③The other kind is the flu. More serious viruses like H1N1 and H3N2 make people get it. Besides symptoms similar to a common cold, you can have a high fever. Also, your body hurts, and you feel very tired. This is because the viruses stay in your blood (血液), and they can go to almost every part of your body to cause problems. For this reason, the flu makes you show symptoms quickly and can last for one or two weeks.
④________. First, you should get enough rest. Drinking lots of water or warm tea is helpful too. If your nose is uncomfortable, you can try something to make the inside of your nose wet.
⑤Sometimes a cold can become more serious. If you have a very high fever, find it hard to breathe, or don’t feel better after several days, be sure to tell your parents. It’s better to ask for help earlier so you can get better faster.
⑥The best way to deal with a cold is to avoid (避免) it in the first place. One easy habit is washing your hands with soap. Eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables helps you stay strong. Don’t forget to stay active with outdoor sports and get enough sleep every night.
⑦Remember if someone near you is sick with the flu, try not to touch or use the things he or she often uses. Opening the window for a few minutes each day can also help make the number of viruses and germs go lower in the air.
32. Which of the following is NOT true about the flu and the common cold?
A. The virus can be the cause of the common cold or the flu.
B. People with the flu can also have a runny nose and cough.
C. The flu usually stays longer on people than the common cold does.
D. The flu causes symptoms fast because it affects the breathing system.
33. Which of the following can be put in ________ in Paragraph 4?
A. There are no ways you can do to avoid catching a cold.
B. There are some ways to help you get better after catching a cold.
C. Make sure you get enough sleep in order to fight the cold successfully.
D. Make sure to tell your teachers or parents if your cold is getting worse.
34. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The earlier you ask for help, the faster you can get better.
B. Eating lots of healthy food is the best way to avoid colds.
C. Playing football on winter days can lower the chances of getting colds.
D. You should try to keep your nose dry to deal with uncomfortable noses.
35. Which is the best structure of the passage?

C. D.

What do you want to be when you grow up? An artist, an engineer, a doctor or a teacher? There are more and more new jobs in society. Let’s get to know three.
Door-to-Door Cook
Tao Yu is a door-to-door cook who brings delicious, healthy home-cooked meals straight to people’s homes with the help of AI!
Nothing makes him happier than making tasty meals for people in their own kitchens. AI is his little helper. Before cooking, he uses an AI app to ask customers about their likes, dislikes, and daily needs. AI then shows perfect recipes.
He keeps every dish delicious and healthy with fresh ingredients in good cooking ways. Thanks to AI, Tao Yu can cook meals that fit each family’s taste. Customers can relax and enjoy a big homemade meal with family or friends, getting more time to enjoy life and do what they love.
Drone Operator
At shows, you may see many drones flying in the sky. They make different shapes and lights like stars dancing. These drones follow a plan. A drone operator uses AI to design this plan first, telling each drone where to fly and how to work together. Because of the show, people’s lives are more colorful and happier.
Drones aren’t just for fun. Drone operators also focus on people’s health. With the help of AI, drones are super useful. AI lets drones find the fastest, safest way when they carry medicine (药) to sick people in faraway villages. Besides, AI-powered drones can bring life-saving things quickly, helping people when they need them most. Drones are not just cool—they’re real helpers with AI!
Sleep Health Helper
Do you ever feel tired even after getting a full night’s sleep? You’re not alone—lots of people have this problem! That’s why sleep helpers appear. They’re like “sleep doctors” who help you get better rest.
First, they’ll use AI tools to record three key things that affect sleep: the light around, the sounds in the bedroom, and the daily sleep habits. AI helps doctors understand your sleep problems better. Instead of just giving medicine, sleep doctors use the information collected by AI to teach you useful ways to sleep better. They help you form healthier habits, like changing your bedtime or making your room quieter. Then you’ll wake up feeling organized and full of happiness.

Eric had many dream jobs. He didn’t know what to choose, so he felt worried.
“Why not think about myself first?” Eric said to himself. “Well, I’m a patient and careful person, so maybe an IT engineer is a good choice. Or, I am good at translating (翻译). I could help people communicate as a translator. Also, I do well in communications, so working as a salesperson (销售员) sounds interesting.” At last, his choices were down to three: an IT engineer, a translator, or a salesperson.
Still not so sure, Eric asked for advice from his father. He told Eric that working as a translator can be quite relaxing because of 5 to 6 working hours a day. “And my friend Sammy, an IT engineer, often works about 10 hours on weekdays,” he added, “As for the salesperson, they work over 12 hours a day, even on weekends.” After the talk, Eric put a red “×” on the salesperson.
Now, there were only two choices: an IT engineer or a translator. His father told him, “You can choose to be a translator, but an IT engineer can also create apps to translate. Maybe translators will disappear in ten years. That’s why IT engineering has a better future.” Now everything became clear to Eric.
His father added, “I worked as a teacher for forty years. The things I teach and the ways I use are changing year by year. I learn from other people. I learn from books. I learn without a stop, because new things are appearing every minute. That’s what a successful teacher should be like. No matter what job you choose, you should do the same as I say.”

My Resolution for 2026
How time flies! As 2025 draws to a close, I feel kind of regretful. The biggest pity this year is that I hardly exercised—I spent most days sitting glued to my desk, felt tired easily, and even struggled to climb a few flights of stairs without catching my breath.
To turn things around, my 2026 resolution centers on staying fit. I plan to build a regular exercise habit: I’ll do 20-minute morning stretches every weekday to wake up my body, play basketball with classmates for 40 minutes twice a week to boost my strength, and take a 15-minute walk after dinner daily to relax and keep moving. These small, consistent steps will help me stay energetic next year.

City Daily News

Breaking Screens Won’t Break Screen Habits
In Chongqing, a mother broke the TV set because her kid didn’t listen to her and kept watching it while eating. The news shows how many kids today can’t stop using phones, pads, or watching TV too much. The mother’s action shows her anger, but it also gives the child a bad example. Parents should guide kids smartly instead of using force (暴力) because real education comes from understanding, not from being afraid.
An 80-Year-Old Fight for Care
An 80-year-old Chinese woman took her two sons and a daughter to court (法庭) because they didn’t take care of her. Though she raised them with great love, her children now pay no attention to her. In China, looking after parents is both a law and a good tradition. But today, some people care more about themselves than their family. This thing shows how family traditions are becoming less important.
A Housewife Wins Lost-work Pay
In 2024, Wang, a full-time housewife, was hurt in a traffic accident caused by Xu. Although Wang didn’t have a job outside, she was taking care of her family. She asked for lost-work pay (误工费), but Xu said no, saying she wasn’t really working. However, the court in Wuhu thought differently. It believed that Wang’s housework saved her family a lot of money. So, the court said yes to her lost-work pay.
24. What is the “bad example” about in the news?

Eric’s worries came from too many job choices. So, he first ____55____ and chose three jobs: an IT engineer, a translator, and a salesperson. Then, Eric talked to his father. At last, his father said something meaningful: If you want to be successful in your job, ____58____.
