“On one side, you have the humans,” Laszlo Krasznahorkai, the Hungarian writer and 2025 Nobel Prize winner in Literature, told me in an interview. “On the other side, you have the rocks. Me? I am on the side of the rocks.”
I’d spent the whole night reading his newest novel in a single sitting and had been living in Krasznahorkai’s world, where it is always October, always raining, and where the humans are always busy with things that are bound to fail.
It was maybe a month later that I ran into Krasznahorkai again. I remembered our earlier conversation and was almost too nervous to say hello. But when someone took me to greet him, I found him smiling as he gently took my hands in his and offered me tea.
These distinct (截然不同的) sides — the serious and the friendly, the rough and the caring — can be found throughout Krasznahorkai’s work. The resulting tension is probably a big reason why he won the Nobel Prize.
In his work Satantango, Krasznahorkai built a world at a nearly abandoned farm where life is so hopeless and so depressing that people there all plan to leave. The novel was written without any paragraphs. It’s just big blocks of type.
So perhaps it’s worth taking a moment to call attention to the many pleasures of Krasznahorkai’s works. To begin with, there’s the humor. Krasznahorkai has a sharp eye for the absurd (荒诞的) things in everyday life, and his novels are full of quiet humor. Another kind of humor in his works comes from his characters. His novels are full of all kinds of people — the innocent (纯真的), the liar, the mad, and the foolish — as vivid as any in Dickens’. Krasznahorkai’s writing takes us in and out of these minds quickly and deeply. At one moment we laugh at their strange behavior, and the next we see something of ourselves in them.
Even though Krasznahorkai stands with the “rocks” in his books, his stories always reach out to us.
4. What can we learn about Krasznahorkai?
A. He is fond of collecting rocks. B. He is gentle and kind in real life.
C. His world is full of rain and failure. D. He only writes about hopeless lives.
5. Which is a reason Krasznahorkai won the Nobel Prize according to the passage?
A. All his books have no paragraph breaks.
B. His stories are full of silly people and funny things.
C. The sharp opposites in his works create unique tension.
D. He wrote many popular novels about abandoned farms.
6. What does the author say about Krasznahorkai’s works in paragraph 6?
A. The features. B. The settings. C. The themes. D. The plots.
7. What does the underlined sentence in last paragraph mean?
A. He prefers describing rocks to human life.
B. His books are too serious to reach readers.
C. His books, serious yet darkly funny, still touch readers.
D. He uses rocks as a symbol to make his books more serious.
B 5. C 6. A 7. C

根据第三段“But when someone took me to greet him, I found him smiling as he gently took my hands in his and offered me tea(但当有人带我去问候他时,我发现他面带微笑,温柔地握住我的手,还给我倒了茶)”可知,克劳斯瑙霍尔卡伊在现实生活中温柔友善。
根据第四段“These distinct sides — the serious and the friendly, the rough and the caring — can be found throughout Krasznahorkai’s work. The resulting tension is probably a big reason why he won the Nobel Prize(这些截然不同的方面——严肃与友善、粗犷与体贴——在克劳斯瑙霍尔卡伊的作品中随处可见。由此产生的张力可能是他获得诺贝尔奖的一个重要原因)”可知,作品中鲜明的对立元素形成的独特张力是他获奖的原因之一。故选C。
【6题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第六段“To begin with, there’s the humor. Krasznahorkai has a sharp eye for the absurd things in everyday life, and his novels are full of quiet humor. Another kind of humor in his works comes from his characters. His novels are full of all kinds of people — the innocent, the liar, the mad, and the foolish — as vivid as any in Dickens’(首先是幽默。克劳斯瑙霍尔卡伊对日常生活中的荒诞事物有着敏锐的洞察力,他的小说充满了含蓄的幽默。他作品中的另一种幽默来自于他塑造的人物。他的小说里有各种各样的人——纯真的人、骗子、疯子和傻瓜——和狄更斯笔下的人物一样生动)”可知,该段主要介绍了他作品的两大特点:含蓄的幽默和生动的人物塑造。故选A。
根据第四段“These distinct sides — the serious and the friendly, the rough and the caring — can be found throughout Krasznahorkai’s work. The resulting tension is probably a big reason why he won the Nobel Prize(这些截然不同的方面——严肃与友善、粗犷与体贴——在克劳斯瑙霍尔卡伊的作品中随处可见。
C
Though suffering a critical blood disorder that caused uncontrollable laughter, Neal recovered magically and transformed his experience into founding Laughter Yoga Australia.
Laughter yoga combines physical exercises like stretching and breathing with laughter-evoking (引起) exercises to boost the immune system. It’s not about telling jokes but about laughing together to create positive physical and emotional effects.
The study of laughter yoga started in India in 1995, when Dr. Madan and Dr. Madhuri set up a small laughter club. Dr. Madan discovered that the body cannot distinguish between real and fake (假的) laughter, as both produce the same “happy chemistry”. Moreover, he suggested that fake laughter could become real, and when tested, it proved contagious (有感染力) — fake laughter turned real within minutes.
In 2013, Laughter Yoga joined a Deakin University research study led by Professor Bennett, which focuses on long-term kidney dialysis (透析) patients. The team wanted to know if laughter could help during treatment. Dialysis patients often have very low blood pressure, but during the 30-day laughter sessions, their blood pressure increased.
“That’s significant,” says Professor Bennett. “There were 15 fewer emergency cases after the laughter program.” Before the study, 19 alarms went off in the ward (病房) each month, but four weeks later, only four alarms were recorded — and the only difference was laughter.
Laughter is also useful in today’s stressful workplaces. Neal believes stress doesn’t directly cause illness but can lead to it. Experts suggest creating friendly and fun environments where people can relax and laugh together.
So, if you are looking to boost your mood, ease your stress or simply want a bit of fun, why not give Laughter Yoga a go? As Neal says,“Get up in the morning and just smile. And once you’ve smiled, why don’t you just laugh?”
8. Why is Neal’s story mentioned in the first paragraph?
A To praise his bravery against illness. B. To introduce the topic of laughter yoga.
C. To explain fake laughter’s effects. D. To prove laughter cures diseases.
9. What makes laughter yoga different from other exercises?
A. It uses jokes to make people laugh. B. It focuses on physical health only.
C. It requires special equipment and training. D. It combines laughter with physical exercises.
10. How did Professor Bennett’s team get their findings?
A. By monitoring the dialysis patients’ immune system.
B. By interviewing dialysis patients about their feelings.
C. By comparing the data of emergency cases and ward alarms.
D By replacing patients’ medical care with laughter during dialysis.
11. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Laughter at Work, Health at Heart B. When Laughter Meets Science
C. The Origin of Laughter Yoga D. Laughter Yoga: Joy and Health
B 9. D 10. C 11. D

根据第一段“Though suffering a critical blood disorder that caused uncontrollable laughter, Neal recovered magically and transformed his experience into founding Laughter Yoga Australia(尽管尼尔患有严重的血液疾病,导致无法控制地大笑,但他奇迹般地康复了,并将自己的经历转化为创办澳大利亚大笑瑜伽)”以及后文围绕大笑瑜伽的定义、起源、研究成果和应用场景展开可知,尼尔的故事是为了引出“大笑瑜伽”这一核心话题。
根据第二段“Laughter yoga combines physical exercises like stretching and breathing with laughter-evoking exercises to boost the immune system. It’s not about telling jokes, but about laughing together to create positive physical and emotional effects(大笑瑜伽将拉伸、呼吸等肢体运动与引发大笑的练习相结合,以增强免疫系统。它不是讲笑话,而是通过一起大笑来产生积极的身体和情感影响)”可知,大笑瑜伽与其他运动的不同之处在于它将大笑与肢体运动相结合。故选D。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“That’s significant,” says Professor Bennett. “There were 15 fewer emergency cases after the laughter program.” Before the study, 19 alarms went off in the ward each month, but four weeks later, only four alarms were recorded — and the only difference was laughter(贝内特教授说:“这很有意义。
D
“A few minutes per episode (集), a twist every 15 seconds, a plot advancement every 30 seconds, and a cliffhanger (悬念) in the last 10 seconds…” With such dramatic twists, short dramas continuously stimulate viewers’ dopamine (多巴胺), becoming the new darling of short video platforms.
In recent years, driven by the rapid development of short videos, short dramas have gained popularity. According to the latest Statistical Report on China’s Internet Development released on Aug. 29, short drama users accounted for 52.4% of China’s internet users. Statistics show that the short drama market value reached 37.39 billion yuan in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 267.65%.
As the popularity of short dramas has gone up, their quality has also improved. Last year, a short drama entitled Escape from the British Museum, became a hit in China. Using personification (拟人), the fantasy series is about an ancient Chinese jade (玉) teapot, coming to life and trying to escape from the British Museum to return home to China. Combining the teapot’s history and culture, the micro-drama won high praise from viewers nationwide.
The great popularity of short dramas can be partly due to the fact that these short drama series are perfect for filling odd moments in people’s busy lives. Chen Dexin, a high school teacher in Hunan, China, is a fan of micro-dramas. He’s watched over 200 micro-dramas since the beginning of last year. “After a long day of work, I’m too burnt out for anything that requires a great deal of concentration. Besides, I’m too impatient to watch a traditional TV drama now,” Chen explained.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Government departments have stepped in to ensure the short drama industry stays on track. A policy document on further promoting the healthy development of the short drama industry issued by the National Radio and Television Administration came into effect on June 1, 2024. Many micro-dramas against the rules have been taken down.
So far, the medium has entered a long track of technology support, cultural tourism combination, and strong overseas expansion. As a result, many short drama production companies are tailoring content for overseas audiences, inviting foreign actors to participate in filming, achieving good spread overseas.
12. What is a feature of a typical short drama according to the text?
A. Fast-paced and full of twists. B. Short episode time and slow development.
C. Designed to calm dopamine levels. D. All including cultural and historical clues.
13. What does the author try to illustrate by Escape from the British Museum?
A. Only culturally themed short dramas can succeed.
B. Foreign audiences prefer stories about Chinese relics.
C. Short dramas have boosted quality with creative ideas.
D. Short dramas mainly rely on fantasy to attract viewers.
14. What does the underlined phrase “stays on track” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Grows fast. B. Remains popular. C. Cuts costs. D. Develops healthily.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards short dramas?
A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Supportive.
A 13. C 14. D 15. B

Shortly after graduation, I began teaching and coaching track at St. Bernard’s High School, a small campus with around 2,000 students. That year, our team had many talented athletes — sprinters (短跑运动员) with lightning speed, jumpers with effortless grace, but the one who impressed me most was Bobby, a freshman.
Bobby was 5’3” tall and 175 pounds, with a round face and soft body — more like the Pillsbury Dough Boy than a track athlete. Early that spring, he cornered me in the hallway with a serious expression on his face, “Coach, I want to join the team. I know I’m not fast or strong, but I can help somehow.” His determination won me over, so I let him try.
First, he tried shot put: his face turned red as he worked hard to lift the 12-pound metal ball, only to set it down with a sigh. Next was discus (铁饼): He spun clumsily, sending the discus 27 feet in the wrong direction. We decided he couldn’t do long jump, hurdles, or sprints — he simply wasn’t cut out for them. Just when I thought he’d give up, Bobby looked at me firmly, “I want to run the two-mile.” For two weeks, he struggled through his workouts, his shirt wet through, out of breath after every lap, but never missed a practice.
On a sunny Saturday, we competed against St. Basil’s. The two-mile race started first. The gun went off and other runners rushed ahead, all except Bobby, who stumbled (绊倒) over an uneven patch of grass and fell behind. By lap three, he was a full loop (圈) behind. When all the other runners had finished, Bobby still had three laps left. “Quit, chubby!” shouted a few St. Basil’s boys, laughing at him.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

When Bobby finally crossed the finish line, the field erupted into cheers.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Seeing this, our whole team rushed over, roaring “Bobby! Bobby!” Their voices echoed across the field, drowning out the taunts from the opposing team. Bobby, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, glanced up at his teammates. Their unwavering support seemed to fuel his determination. With renewed energy, he pushed forward, his strides becoming more steady despite his exhaustion. The crowd, initially indifferent, began to notice his perseverance. Even the St. Basil’s boys fell silent, their mockery replaced by reluctant respect.
When Bobby finally crossed the finish line, the field erupted into cheers. His teammates lifted him onto their shoulders, celebrating not just his finish but his unyielding spirit. The opposing coach approached me, shaking his head in admiration. “That kid’s got heart,” he said. Bobby, though exhausted, smiled — a quiet triumph in his eyes. That day, he taught us all a lesson: true strength isn’t about speed or skill, but the courage to keep going when everything seems against you. Perseverance leads to victory!

It’s not about telling jokes, but about laughing together to create positive physical and emotional effects.

A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Supportive.
