Cleaning and user care shall not be done by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. Here, approximately 30 people gather every week for an hour of Zumba led by Dr. Care Gellin. During the day, Gellin is a pediatrician at Golisano Children’s Hospital. At night though, twice a week she leads Zumba classes, attracting all sorts of people. It’s a trademarked Latinin-spired dance workout. Participants needn’t copy her moves exactly, rather everyone can have fun and move their bodies in whatever way they feel the most comfortable. Gellin was first introduced to Zumba in 2010. While looking for a fun way to work out while recovering from her pregnancy and birth, she accidentally had a Zumba class. A year later, she became a certified Zumba instructor. After teaching at several gyms, Gellin eventually started teaching in the basement of the hospital. Gellin noted that most of her job is centered around education rather than practicing medicine, so she spends lots of time thinking about what safe learning spaces mean. This has translated into her Zumba teaching. While there’re no mistakes in Zumba, there’re unfortunately mistakes in medicine — some with serious consequences. Gellin works on setting up learning so her students can have safety nets to catch them if they make an error in judgment and prevent patient harm. She added, “I love moments when I can tell some of the students have memorized the moves. Every student participates in the class at a different intensity level, so my goal is to present a level that no matter where you are, you have to push yourself.” Zumba is meant to be a workout after all with songs incorporating (包含) more fitness movements. “I’ve been working out since I was 10” she said, reflecting on all of her past and present activities. “Zumba is probably the most fun of all of them.” 24. How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1? A. By giving a definition. B. By providing evidence. C. By describing a scene. D. By making a prediction. 25. What is Zumba designed for according to Gellin? A. An alternative to practicing medicine. B. A fun and comfortable way to work out. C. An activity to attract more participants. D. A challenging course to push the limits. 26. What can we learn about Gellin? A. She has been learning Zumba since she was 10. B. She suffered from depression during pregnancy. C. She asked her students to follow her moves exactly. D. She took security seriously while teaching Zumba. C 25. B 26. 根据第一段“If you enter the Goergen Athletic Center, you may hear the rhythmic Latin music of the weekly Zumba class. Here, approximately 30 people gather every week for an hour of Zumba led by Dr. Care Gellin.(如果你进入格尔根体育中心,你可能会听到每周尊巴课上有节奏的拉丁音乐。在这里,每周大约有30人聚集在一起,在卡瑞·格林博士的带领下跳一小时的尊巴舞)”可知,作者通过描述场景引入主题。故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“While looking for a fun way to work out while recovering from her pregnancy (怀孕) and birth, she accidentally had a Zumba class.(当她从怀孕和分娩中恢复过来,寻找一种有趣的锻炼方式时,她意外地参加了尊巴舞课程)”以及最后一段“Zumba is probably the most fun of all of them.(尊巴舞可能是所有活动中最有趣的)”可知,根据Gellin的说法,尊巴舞是一种有趣又舒适的锻炼方式。 根据倒数第三段“Gellin works on setting up learning so her students can have safety nets to catch them if they make an error in judgment and prevent patient harm.(Gellin致力于建立学习机制,这样她的学生在判断错误时就能有安全网来抓住他们,防止对病人造成伤害)”可知,Gellin在教尊巴舞时很重视安全问题。故选D。 C If you want to disturb the car industry, you’d better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. But in agriculture, small farmers can get the best of the major players. By connecting directly with customers, and by responding quickly to changes in the markets as well as in the ecosystems, small farmers can keep one step ahead of the big guys. As the co-founder of the National Young Farmers Coalition (美国青年农会) and a family farmer myself. I have a front-row seat to the innovations among small farmers that are transforming the industry. For example, take the Quick Cut Greens Harvester, a tool developed just a couple of years ago by a young farmer, Jonathan Dysinger, in Tennessee, with a small loan from a local Slow Money group. It enables small-scale farmers to harvest 175 pounds of green vegetables per hour — a huge improvement over harvesting just a few dozen pounds by hand-suddenly making it possible for the little guys to compete with large farms of California. Before the tool came out, small farmers couldn’t touch the price per pound offered by California farms. But now, with the combination of a litter price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business. The sustainable success of small farmers, though, won’t happen without fundamental changes to the industry. One crucial factor is secure access to land. Competition from investors, developers, and established large farmers makes owning one’s own land unattainable for many new farmers. From 2004 to 2013, agricultural land values doubled, and they continue to rise in many regions. Another challenge for more than a million of the most qualified farm workers and managers is a non-existent path to citizenship — the greatest barrier to building a farm of their own. With farmers over the age of 65 outnumbering farmers younger than 35 by six to one, and with two-thirds of the nation’s farmland in need of a new farmer, we must clear the path for talented people willing to grow the nation’s food. There are solutions that could light a path toward a more sustainable and fairer farm economy, but farmers can’t clumsily put them together before us. We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland conservation, as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. With a new farm bill to be debated in Congress, consumers must take a stand with young farmers. 27. The author mentions car industry at the beginning of the passage to introduce . A. a trend of development in agriculture B. the importance of investing in car industry C. the progress made in car industry D. a special feature of agriculture 28. What does the author want to illustrate with the example in paragraph 2? A. Small farmers may gain some advantages over big ones. B. Competition between small and big farms is herce. C. Technology is vital for agricultural development. D. Loans to small local farmers are necessary. 29. What is the difficulty for those new farmers? A. To gain more financial aid. B. To have farms of their own. C. To hire good farm managers. D. To win old farmers’ support. 30. What should farmers do for a more sustainable and fairer farm economy? A. Become members of NYFC. B. Seek support beyond NYFC. C. Expand farmland conservation. D. Invest more to improve technology. D 28. A 29. B 30. 根据第一段中“If you want to disturb the car industry, you’d better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. But in agriculture, small farmers can get the best of the major players. By connecting directly with customers, and by responding quickly to changes in the markets as well as in the ecosystems, small farmers can keep one step ahead of the big guys.(如果你想扰乱汽车行业,你最好有几十亿美元:小家庭汽车制造商不太可能击败最大的汽车公司。 根据第二段“For example, take the Quick Cut Greens Harvester, a tool developed just a couple of years ago by a young farmer, Jonathan Dysinger, in Tennessee, with a small loan from a local Slow Money group. But now, with the combination of a litter price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business.(例如,以“快速切割绿叶蔬菜收割机”为例,这是几年前田纳西州的一位年轻农民乔纳森·迪辛格在当地“慢钱”组织的一笔小额贷款帮助下开发的工具。 故选A。 根据第三段中“One crucial factor is secure access to land. Competition from investors, developers, and established large farmers makes owning one’s own land unattainable for many new farmers.(一个关键因素是获得土地的安全。来自投资者、开发商和老牌大农场主的竞争使得许多新农民无法拥有自己的土地。)”可知,于那些新农民来说,不能拥有自己的农场是他们面临的困难。故选B。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland conservation, as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. With a new farm bill to be debated in Congress, consumers must take a stand with young farmers.(我们纽约农民联盟(NYFC)需要广泛的支持,因为我们敦促国会增加农田保护,推动移民改革,并寻求能确保来自各种背景的多样化且雄心勃勃的下一代农场取得成功的政策。随着一项新的农业法案将在国会进行辩论,消费者必须与年轻农民站在一起。)”可知,NYFC需要广泛的支持,包括要求国会增加农田保护,推动移民改革,寻求确保不同背景的新农民的成功的政策等,而且消费者必须与年轻农民站在一起。所以,为了保证更可持续和更公平的农业经济,农民需要寻求NYFC以外的更多方面的支持。故选B。 D Millions watch the Oscars every year, but I'm always interested in the Razzies (金酸梅奖), which recognize cinematic underachievement. For all the attention given to what we like, what we dislike can be just as important, interesting and empowering. French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu saw dislike as snobbery. He saw all judgments of taste, favorable or not, as performances of class. The rich could justify their place, he argued, by claiming to have more refined tastes. Knowing which literature or art to praise could signal to. others their rightful place at the top of society. Oversimplified his theory might be, it is not entirely wrong. Furthermore, dislikes are often used as a way not to stand apart but to fit in. It means learning the unspoken rules of what's OK to like or dislike, and to proclaim those likes or dislikes loudly for others to hear. When some of us swim against the social tide, we might be savvy (精明的) enough to label our likes as “guilty pleasures”, which both acknowledges the rules and apologizes for violating them. In my research, though, I found that dislike isn't just a form of snobbery. We interviewed over 200 people, a diverse group in race, age, and social class. All the interviewees tended to actively dislike media content far more when they felt they couldn't escape it. Many people can't choose the radio station that's playing at work, or what's on TV at the bar. Moreover, some of us are subjected to more annoyance than others. Remote controls, for instance, have long been seen as a special right of dads, with women and kids given less power to change the channel. Everyone turns to media hoping for specific needs to be met, but those who have those needs realized less often are those who might dislike more often. Therefore speaking about dislikes is an act of resistance — a refusal to allow public space to be conquered by the media content that doesn't connect. Dislike can certainly transform into anger or hate, but it may also take a more playful form. Sometimes we could see people joyfully watch the object of their dislike and offer a commentary of criticism, instead of tuning out and turning off. Why? Reveling in dislike can help regain control in a world that overwhelms everyone with content. Keeping the despised shows at hand rather than avoiding them can help the dislikers speak up in the court of public opinion. Or some might enjoy their dislikes as a way to avoid ruining certain relationships. Many of us can probably relate to the experience of having a friend who insists we watch something against our will. What if, rather than resenting the show or the person, we simply embrace it in all of its embarrassing glory? By all means, pay attention to the advice to “ignore the haters”. But a lot can be learned by listening to the dislikers. 31. According to Paragraph 3, people label their likes as “guilty pleasures” when they_________. A. follow the mainstream B. take pride in their taste C. set up the unspoken rules D. try to fit into a certain group 32. What can we learn from the passage? A. Dislikes can he found mostly among the rich. B. Learning about literature and art is an act of snobbery. C. Expressing dislike helps maintain one's social relationships. D. Exposure to unwanted media content intensifies people's dislike. 33. What does the underlined phrase "Reveling in" in the text probably mean? A. Taking delight in. B. Showing concern for. C. Drawing lessons from. D. Establishing connection to. 34. What message does the author try to convey in this passage? A. We are encouraged to launch debates over hot issues in public. B. Staying away from the haters is a sensible means to avoid trouble. C. Embracing our dislikes can be a way to deal with power imbalance. D. The media should aim to meet the needs of different groups of audience. D 32. D 33. A 34. 根据文章第三段“Furthermore, dislikes are often used as a way not to stand apart but to fit in. It means learning the unspoken rules of what's OK to like or dislike, and to proclaim those likes or dislikes loudly for others to hear. When some of us swim against the social tide, we might be savvy(精明的)enough to label our likes as "guilty pleasures", which both acknowledges the rules and apologizes for violating them.(此外,不喜欢经常被用来作为一种方式,而不是与众不同,而是融入。它意味着学习那些可以喜欢或不喜欢的潜规则,并大声说出那些喜欢或不喜欢的东西让别人听到。当我们中的一些人与社会潮流背道而驰时,我们可能足够聪明,将自己的喜好贴上“罪恶的快乐”的标签,这既承认了规则,也为违反了规则而道歉。)”可知,当人们试图融入某个群体时,他们会将自己的喜好贴上“罪恶的快乐”的标签。故选D。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第五段“All the interviewees tended to actively dislike media content far more when they felt they couldn't escape it. (当受访者觉得无法逃避时,他们更倾向于主动地不喜欢媒体内容。)”和“Moreover, some of us are subjected to more annoyance than others.(此外,我们中的一些人比其他人遭受更多的烦恼。)” 根据划线词后文“Keeping the despised shows at hand rather than avoiding them can help the dislikers speak up in the court of public opinion. Or some might enjoy their dislikes as a way to avoid ruining certain relationships. (保留那些受人鄙视的节目,而不是避开它们,可以帮助那些不喜欢的人在公众舆论的法庭上畅所欲言。或者有些人可能喜欢他们不喜欢的东西,以此来避免破坏某些关系。)”可知,在一个让每个人都感到满足的世界里,着迷于不喜欢可以帮助你重新获得控制权。所以Reveling in为“深爱;酷爱;着迷”之意。故选A。 根据文章第一段“For all the attention given to what we like, what we dislike can be just as important, interesting and empowering. (对于我们所喜欢的事物所给予的所有关注,我们不喜欢的事物也可以同样重要、有趣和有力量。)”和第六段“Therefore, speaking about dislikes is an act of resistance—a refusal to allow public space to be conquered by the media content that doesn't connect.(因此,谈论不喜欢是一种反抗的行为——拒绝让公共空间被不相连的媒体内容所征服。)” Much of the work in today’s world is accomplished(完成) in teams. Most people believe the best way to build a great team is to gather a group of the most talented individuals.____35____Companies spend millions hiring top business people. Is their money well spent? ____36____They focused on football, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed. For football and basketball, adding talented players to a team proves a good method, but only up to the point where 70% of the players are top talent; above that level, the team’s performance begins to decline. Interestingly, this trend isn’t evident in baseball, where additional individual talent keeps improving the team’s performance. To explain this phenomenon, the researchers explored the degree to which a good performance by a team requires its members to coordinate(协调) their actions. ____37____In baseball, the performance of individual players is less dependent on teammates. They conclude that when task interdependence is high, team performance will suffer when there is too much talent, while individual talent will have positive effects on team performance when task interdependence is lower. If a basketball star is, for example, trying to gain a high personal point total, he may take a shot himself when it would be better to pass the ball to a teammate, affecting the team’s performance. Young children learning to play team sports are often told, “There is no I in TEAM.” ____38____ Another possibility is that when there is a lot of talent on a team, some players may make less effort. Just as in a game of tug-of-war(拔河比赛), whenever a person is added, everyone else pulls the rope with less force. _____39_____ An A-team may require a balance--not just A players, but a few generous B players as well. A. It’s not a simple matter to determine the nature of talent. B. Stars apparently do not follow this basic principle of sportsmanship. C. Several recent studies examined the role of talent in the sports world. D. Sports team owners spend millions of dollars attracting top talent. E. The group interaction and its effect drew the researchers’ attention. F. This task interdependence distinguishes baseball from football and basketball. G. Building up a dream team is more complex than simply hiring the best talent. D 36. C 37. F 38. B 39. 【35题详解】 上文“Most people believe the best way to build a great team is to gather a group of the most talented individuals.(大多数人认为,建立一个伟大团队的最佳方法是聚集一群最有才华的人。)” 【36题详解】 下文“They focused on football, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed.(他们专注于足球、篮球和棒球。结果好坏参半。)”说明有研究针对体育领域展开并得出了不同结果。C选项“Several recent studies examined the role of talent in the sports world.(最近几项研究考察了人才在体育界的作用。)” 【37题详解】 上文“To explain this phenomenon, the researchers explored the degree to which a good performance by a team requires its members to coordinate their actions.(为了解释这一现象,研究人员探究了一个团队的良好表现需要其成员协调行动的程度。)”提出了研究人员探究的方向;下文“In baseball, the performance of individual players is less dependent on teammates.(在棒球中,个别球员的表现较少依赖队友。)” F选项“This task interdependence distinguishes baseball from football and basketball.(这种任务相互依赖性将棒球与足球和篮球区分开来。)” 【38题详解】 上文“Young children learning to play team sports are often told, ‘There is no I in TEAM.’(学习团队运动的小孩子经常被告知:‘团队中没有我。’)”强调了团队运动中不应以自我为中心;下文“Another possibility is that when there is a lot of talent on a team, some players may make less effort.(另一种可能性是,当一个团队中有很多人才时,一些球员可能会不那么努力。)” B选项“Stars apparently do not follow this basic principle of sportsmanship.(明星显然不遵循这种体育精神的基本原则。)” 【39题详解】 下文“An A-team may require a balance--not just A players, but a few generous B players as well.( 一个精英团队需要做到平衡——不仅要有顶尖的“A”级别选手,还需要配备一些大方的“B”级别选手。)” G选项“Building up a dream team is more complex than simply hiring the best talent.(组建一个梦之队比简单地雇佣最好的人才要复杂得多。)” I am not sure how many books I have reread, but perhaps it is fewer than the average person. For me. the pleasure of rereading is a newly discovered one, though the source material is not. I used to take the same approach to books as I did to travel: don't go to the same place twice. Life is too short. There is so much to read and so much to see and experience. Then I realised that the fact that life is short might work the other way around, too: if you know you enjoy something, or somewhere, immensely, then why not return? It makes sense when we have limited amounts of time. Recently I reread Joseph Heller's Catch-22. I was inspired to do so when reminded of how he'd respond when people asked him why he'd never written anything as good: “Who has?” Catch-22 pretty much saved my life when I first read it. I was an extremely depressed 17-year-old, had dropped out of sixth form twice, didn't leave the house at all. and didn't have a life. It fell as though I hadn't laughed in such a long lime—me, a person who loves laughing—because I hadn't. Catch-22 had me howling. It managed to lake me out of the little private lonely world I had come to inhabit, and though its themes are serious, its sheer wit and cleverness cheered me immensely. I related to its characters who are themselves trapped. I am now planning to reread the sort of books that inspired me in my own writing—works I haven't picked up for a long lime but that might energize me during a time in which all of our batteries am flashing low. There's comfort, too, in reading the formative books one loved, and those set in periods other than our own—the 19th-century and the early 20th-century tales of society. I won't take a break altogether from reading the most recent releases, hut I have tried to dip more frequently into the historical documents. The irony is that I own a ridiculous number of books, which I've been neglecting (忽略) this whole time. No longer. 40. What approach did the author use to take to books and travel? 41. How did Catch-22 benefit the author? 42. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why. The author will read historical documents, but stop reading new books. 43. What does rereading mean to you?(In about 40 words) 【答案】40. Don’t go to the same place twice./Don’t read the same book twice. 41. The book took the author out of the little private lonely world (he/she had come to inhabit.) 42. The author will read historical documents, but stop reading new books. According to the passage, the author won’t take a break altogether from reading the most recent releases. 43. Reading books means a lot to me. Each time I reread a book, I have a better understanding of the book as well as my life. I also enjoy reading the notes I left at the margins, which is like going back to a favorite tour site. 根据文章第二段“I used to take the same approach to books as I did to travel: don't go to the same place twice.(我以前对待书籍的态度和对待旅行的态度是一样的:同一个地方不要去两次。)” Don’t go to the same place twice./Don’t read the same book twice.。 根据文章第三段“It managed to lake me out of the little private lonely world I had come to inhabit(它设法把我从我所栖居的那个小小的、私人的、孤独的世界中拉了出来)”可知,这本书把作者从他(她)所栖居的小小私人孤独世界中带了出来。 The book took the author out of the little private lonely world (he/she had come to inhabit.)。 根据文章最后一段“I won't take a break altogether from reading the most recent releases, but I have tried to dip more frequently into the historical documents.(我不会在阅读最新发布的版本时完全休息,但我已经尝试更频繁地浏览历史文档。)” The author will read historical documents, but stop reading new books. According to the passage, the author won’t take a break altogether from reading the most recent releases.。 Reading books means a lot to me. Each time I reread a book, I have a better understanding of the book as well as my life. I also enjoy reading the notes I left at the margins, which is like going back to a favorite tour site.。 Dear Jim, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Jim, How is everything going? “I’ve been working out since I was 10,” she said, reflecting on all of her past and present activities. C An activity to attract more participants. D. A challenging course to push the limits. 26. What can we learn about Gellin? A. She has been learning Zumba since she was 10. B. She suffered from depression during pregnancy. C. She asked her students to follow her moves exactly. D. She took security seriously while teaching Zumba. C If you want to disturb the car industry, you’d better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. D Millions watch the Oscars every year, but I'm always interested in the Razzies (金酸梅奖), which recognize cinematic underachievement. Therefore, speaking about dislikes is an act of resistance — a refusal to allow public space to be conquered by the media content that doesn't connect. I am not sure how many books I have reread, but perhaps it is fewer than the average person. For me. the pleasure of rereading is a newly discovered one, though the source material is not. Recently I reread Joseph Heller's Catch-22 I was inspired to do so when reminded of how he'd respond when people asked him why he'd never written anything as good: “Who has?” Catch-22 pretty much saved my life when I first read it. 43. What does rereading mean to you?(In about 40 words) Dear Jim, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
