Crossing the Sabzak Pass is always dangerous. But for travelers in a tight corner,
Najibullah Bastani, who runs his hotel high on the side of a snow-blanketed mountain,is
there to help-with a cup of tea,a meal or car repair.
It's 6:30 am.Inside the hotel's kitchen,Bastani threw pieces of wood onto a small fire
and placed a teapot above its flames."What will this day bring?"Mr.Bastani sighed,as he
watched snow scattering()over the road and waited for the day's first cars to cross.
As the temperature drops sharply, thousands of parents with sick children flood the
pass-the only land bridge open year-round that connects cities across northern Afghanistan
to the west-to reach the only well-equipped hospital.Young men take to the road to begin
英语试题第5页(共16页)
their migrant journey into Iran in search of work as their families struggle to live. But the
journey is often full of danger.Cars slide from the road in flash storms. The high wind turns
over trucks, blocking the pass for days.
For many travelers,Mr.Bastani's hotel, sitting at the center of the pass, has become a
lighthouse of sorts.Every driver who frequents the pass knows to call him when they find a
vehicle that has run out of fuel or slipped off the road.He delivers food, calls mechanics and
transports them to the hotel.
As four men walked into the hotel,Mr.Bastani met the day's first customers. When
asked about the conditions of the road,Mr.Bastani told the story of a disastrous accident
only days earlier.A bus without chains on its tires had slid off the road. Before Mr.Bastani
and his men could move the bus back onto the road,it suddenly slid farther off a cliff killing
both the woman and the boy inside.
Before the four men departed,Mr.Bastani shook their hands, hoping not to see these
men again, but he knew that,if they needed him,he would be there.

A.The worsening hotel business.
B.The potential risks on the road.
C.The unexpected extreme weather.D.The poorly-equipped hotel kitchen.
25.What can we infer about the Sabzak Pass from paragraph 3?

My husband made a little two-story house that mirrored our own in color and design for
our Little Free Library, while I carefully selected books from our shelves. The idea struck us
immediately-instead of loading boxes into the car for yet another used book sale,we could
simply walk them to the roadside.
Fifteen or so years later,it's safe to say that thousands of books,as well as the
occasional DVDs,CDs and jigsaw puzzles have been shared through our little library.
Located on a busy street just a few blocks from a subway station, our little library sees
dozens,perhaps hundreds,of passers-by each day.
Many of those who use our library do not hesitate to share their love of this
neighborhood resource. One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby
retirement home.At other times,we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and
even a personalized sketch()from a local artist.
Like the people who use our library, the books that come and go reflect the broad
diversity of our city.Arabic,French and Russian books are the large part among the
dominant English-language books.I have even collected favorite books of mine in languages I
don't understand, simply for the joy of adding another edition to my collection.
Surprisingly, our library hasn't solved our book storage problem-if anything,we now have
more books than ever before.
I have heard some complaints that the Little Free Library does not always serve the
purpose of building community and may compete with our public libraries and independent
英语试题第6页(共16页)
bookstores. This has not been our experience. We continue to buy more books than we need
and we are intensely loyal users of the public system. Our Little Free Library has enhanced
our love of reading and has connected us to a community of book lovers in the heart of our
busy neighborhood.
24.Why did the author and her husband build the Little Free Library?
A.To prepare for used book sales.
B.To make friends with book lovers.
C.To deal with their unwanted books.
D.To make use of community resources.
25.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.People's care for the elderly.
B.The friendship between library users.
C.People's love for the Little Free Library.
D.The exploration of the community resources.
26.What does the Little Free Library reflect about the neighborhood?
A.Its cultural diversity.
B.Its storage problems.
C.Readers'preferences.
D.People's reading habits.
27.How has the Little Free Library impacted the community?
A.It has strengthened neighborhood connections.
B.It has become a meeting place for local artists.
C.It has weakened public libraries to some degree.

The ocean covers about 70%of Earth's surface. It's the largest livable space on our
planet, and there's more life there than anywhere else on the Earth.Through exploration,
we're learning more about its biological, chemical, physical, and geological (
aspects.Exploration leads to discovery, but before we can truly explore,we must map.
Seafloor mapping provides a sense of what may lie beneath and guides decisions about
where to explore. While the entire seafloor has been mapped using data collected from
satellites, these data provide only a general picture of what's there.Detail is limited on these
maps,so some important geographical features like seamounts and objects like shipwrecks
(失事船只)remain unseen.
As of 2024,26.1%of the global seafloor had been mapped with modern high-resolution
(高分辨率的)technology, usually fixed to ships, which can reveal the seafloor in greater
detail. While almost 50%of the seafloor beneath US waters had been mapped to these
modern standards, the nation's seafloor is larger than the land area of all 50 states. Thus,
there's still a significant amount of seafloor left to be mapped at high resolution.
More is known about the seafloor than the species that call the ocean home.Seafloor
maps can provide information about potential habitats, but they can't identify species on the
seafloor or provide information about how they interact with each other and their
environments.Scientists estimate there may be between 700,000 and 1,000,000 species in
the ocean.About two thirds of these species have yet to be discovered or officially described,
with almost 2,000 new species accepted by the scientific community each year.
We have a great deal more to learn about our ocean and what lives in it.Progress is
being made, and we learn more and more each year. But the ocean will never be fully
explored.Earth is constantly changing, and it's important to understand these changes given
the importance of the ocean in our everyday lives.
英语试题第7页(共16页)
28.Why is seafloor mapping important for exploring the ocean?
A.It reveals all objects on the seafloor.
B.It shows the seafloor in greater detail.
C.It guides decisions about where to sail.
D.It provides a general picture of the Earth.
29.Why is the seafloor beneath US waters mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To stress the further task of mapping the seafloor.
B.To explain the standards of mapping the seafloor.
C.To illustrate the geographical features of the seafloor.
D.To highlight the significance of mapping the seafloor.
30.What can we learn from the seafloor maps?
A.The quality of the water.
B.The environment of ocean.
C.The homes of sea species.
D.The endangered sea species.
31.What is the best title of the text?
A.How Can the Seafloor Be Mapped?
B.What Species Are Living in the Ocean?
C.Why Is It Important to Develop the Ocean?
D.How Much of the Ocean Has Been Explored?

During the 20th century,an estimated 3 million great whales were hunted to provide
humans with oil, meat and rose fertiliser.Roger Payne,a biologist and environmentalist,
spurred()a worldwide environmental conservation movement with his discovery that
whales could sing.
This discovery was made in 1967 during his research trip to Bermuda()when a
navy engineer provided him with a recording of curious underwater sounds documented.
Payne identified the tones as songs whales sing to one another and he was conscious from the
start that whale song was to get the public interested in protecting an animal previously
considered little more than a resource, curiosity or nuisance.
Payne saw the discovery of whale song as a chance to spur interest in saving the giant
animals, who were disappearing from the planet. In 1970,Payne released the album Songs
of the Humpback Whale. The record,a surprise hit, fueled a global movement to end the
practice of commercial whale hunting and save the whales from extinction. It remains the
bestselling environmental album in history.
The impact of the whale song discovery on the early environmental movement was
immense. Many antiwar protesters of the day took on saving animals and the environment as
a new cause. The humpback whale became the icon of a new environmental awareness. And
the whales entered pop culture,no longer the fearsome beasts. In 1977,the whale calls were
loaded on to the Voyager probes and sent into outer space.
Payne, graduating from Harvard University and Cornell University with a doctor's
degree, authored or co-authored dozens of scientific papers, gave hundreds of lectures,
made countless television programmes and films, and led 100 oceanic expeditions.Payne had
started an ambitious new project:CETI,a combination of scientists using new technology to
interpret what whales might be“saying'”.
28.What caused the decline of the whale population in the 20th century?
A.Uncontrolled hunting.
B.The climate change.
C.Habitat loss.
D.The ocean pollution.

Exposure to a high-sugar diet has previously been linked to a raised risk of obesity,
type 2 diabetes()and high blood pressure.Whether this is a causal link is unclear,
and investigations into such questions are hampered since it's hard for researchers to force
people to follow specific diets. But the same isn't true of wartime governments,so Gracner
at the University of Southern California and her colleagues made use of a situation in World
War II that acted like a natural experiment.
In January 1940,a few months into the war,the UK began rationing (food,
which included limiting adults to around 40 grams of sugar daily. When rationing ended in
September 1953,people rapidly increased their sugar consumption.
Gracner's team analyzed the health records of people surveyed between 2006 and 2019,
all raised during the last few years of rationing and exposed to limited sugar intake before
and after birth. The researchers also looked at the same data from people born a year or so
after rationing ended. The two groups had a similar family history of type 2 diabetes,to
enable comparisons between them.Across both groups, the occurrence of type 2 diabetes
and high blood pressure was much lower for those who were raised during rationing.
Members of this group had a 35%lower chance of developing type 2 diabetes by their mid-
60s,and those who did so were on average four years later than those raised after rationing
ended.
Crucially, while rationing saw many changes in the diets of British people,it appears
that cutting down on sugar made a big difference. One explanation might be that early
exposure to sugar sets up a preference for eating sweet things throughout life.It could also
lead to changes that reduce how well people control blood sugar levels, raising the risk of
总
type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure,Gracner says.
"The results show there are clear benefits in cutting down on sugar,"says Scott
Montgomery in Sweden."People should reduce sugar intake to the recommended levels."
32.What does the underlined word "hampered"in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Strengthened.B.Visualized.C.Blocked.
D.Anticipated.
33.What happened after the ending of rationing in the UK?
A.A limit was set to adults'daily consumption of sugar.
B.People's daily sugar consumption increased sharply.
C.Some people suffered bad health for lack of food.
D.Research began on the effect of poor nutrition.
英语试题第9页(共16页)
34.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.What mainly contributed to type 2 diabetes.
B.Why limited exposure to sugar benefited people.
C.How Gracner's team carried out their research.
D.What age groups were at the risk of high blood pressure.
35.What was the impact of the rationing system in the UK?
A.It delayed people's developing type 2 diabetes.
B.It left people exposed to sugar at an early age.
C.It raised people's awareness of the value of food.
D.It reduced people's ability to control blood sugar level.

At a conference last week,I received an interesting piece of advice:"Assume you are
wrong."The advice came from Brian Nosek,a fellow psychology professor. He wasn't
objecting to any particular claim I'd made-he was offering a strategy for pursuing better
science, and for encouraging others to do the same.
To understand the context for Nosek's advice,we need to take a step back-to the
nature of science itself.Despite what many of us learned in elementary school, there is no
single scientific method.Just as scientific theories change,so do scientific methods.
Assuming you are right might be a motivating force, sustaining the enormous effort
that conducting scientific work requires. But it also makes it easy to interpret criticisms as
personal attacks, and for scientific arguments to develop into personal battles.Beginning,
instead, from the assumption you are wrong,a criticism is easier to be viewed as a helpful
pointer,a constructive suggestion for how to be less wrong-a goal that your critic probably
shares.
Nosek's advice may sound pessimistic, but it's not so foreign to science.Philosophers of
science sometimes refer to the“pessimistic meta-induction(元归纳)”on the history of
science:All of our past scientific theories have been wrong,so surely our current theories
will turn out to be wrong, too. That doesn't mean we haven't made progress, but it does
indicate that there is always room for improvement-ways to be less wrong.
I like the advice because it builds in an awareness of our limitations and a readiness to
accept the unknown("There are things I do not know!")along with a sense that we can do
better("There are things I do not know yet!").It also builds in a sense of community-
we're all in the same boat when it comes to falling short of getting things right.Perhaps the
focus on a shared goal-our goal as scientists and humans of being less wrong-can help
make up for any harm in scientific motivation or communication.
32.Why is Nosek's advice mentioned?
A.To encourage the author to take up science.
B.To remind the author to be open to criticism.
C.To express opinions about the author's claims.
D.To better the author's understanding of psychology.
33.What does the author think of science theories?
A.Dynamic.B.Testable.C.Pioneering.
D.Well-established.
34.How does“assuming you are wrong”help?
A.It motivates scientists to make efforts.
B.It sets a constructive improvement goal.
C.It addresses personal attacks and conflicts.
D.It contributes to a deeper insight into yourself.

Short-form videos,also known as Shorts,have gained great popularity,particularly on
platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.36 However, there's a growing concern
that watching too many Shorts can affect children's brains.
The phenomenon known as "TikTok Brain"arises from the app's short and addictive
videos.Similar to candy,these videos generate rapid dopamine()releases,
stimulating the brain's pleasure center.A study was conducted to investigate the impact of
Shorts on the teenage brains.37 They stimulated the brain's reward center more
intensely than random videos.
Our brains process visual information faster than text, which explains why videos tend
to outperform text-based content online.Due to their underdeveloped reading skills, children
are more easily to become addicted to visual stimuli.Remarkably, social media platforms can
do a lot harm to the development of reading habits among younger users.38
According to Jessica Griffin,a professor of child psychology,Shorts affect the
developing brains of children and teenagers..The prefrontal cortex(前额叶皮质)is
responsible for attention,self-control,memory,and learning flexibility.39 This
delayed development makes young individuals more easily influenced by Shorts.
In conclusion, the constant exposure to fast-paced and stimulating content in Shorts can
impact children's attention. To address this issue, parents can have open conversations with
their children about the potential risks.40 Furthermore, encouraging physical activities
and outdoor experiences is also crucial to develop a balanced lifestyle.
A.Some even do not include text at all.
B.TikTok's feed is created addictive by design.
C.But it does not fully mature until around the age of 25.
D.It is helpful to use screen time management tools for Shorts.

Silent walking involves walking outdoors without distractions like music or
conversations,focusing on the mind-body-nature connection.36 That's a slower,lower-
impact way to relax and is great for fitness. Here's everything you need to know about the
trend.
Select a natural setting and fully engage your senses. For reaping (the mental
health benefits,it is recommended to find a quiet and peaceful natural location.37
Meanwhile, consciously observing the sights, sounds, smells, and physical sensations
during the walk can significantly impact cognitive and emotional well-being.
To stimulate the mind, consider exploring different routes than usual.Without your
favorite podcast or playlist, you might slip into boredom on your walk.38 And it might
even be good for your brain.Scientists applaud the virtues of boredom for brain health,
believing that it boosts creativity and improves social connections. And if you do get bored,
rest assured that it shows you've disconnected from external distractions.Go with it,and
make sure you take a different route each time-it'll keep you motivated.

walk, you'll feel the magic kick in.39

At the age of 19,I went to college alone to chase my dream in the fashion industry.I
remember the first time I noticed Orion, the elderly man who always sat alone at his corner
table in the coffee shop where I worked part-time.My heart ached for the loneliness I saw in
his eyes.He came in several times a day,his sorrow evident as he gazed out the window.
One evening, after noticing his routine presence and the sadness surrounding him,I
gathered my courage and approached him with a warm smile.I invited him to join me and
my friends for dinner that night. To my surprise, his eyes sparkled with delight,a brief
glimmer()of joy breaking through his sadness.
When he arrived at dinner,he was all dressed up,his behavior noticeably brighter. As

adventures and the life they built together. My friends and I listened carefully, creating an
atmosphere filled with laughter and warmth. For the first time in a long while,Orion
seemed at ease, his laughter mixing with ours.
As he spoke,I could see the weight of his loneliness slowly lifting. It was as if our
companionship had produced a spark within him again. That night,we shared stories and
dreams, and I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for having crossed paths with him.
From then on,our friendship blossomed.I made it a point to spend time with him,

Crossing the Sabzak Pass is always dangerous. But for travelers in a tight corner,
Najibullah Bastani, who runs his hotel high on the side of a snow-blanketed mountain,is

It's 6:30 am.Inside the hotel's kitchen,Bastani threw pieces of wood onto a small fire

watched snow scattering()over the road and waited for the day's first cars to cross.
As the temperature drops sharply, thousands of parents with sick children flood the

their migrant journey into Iran in search of work as their families struggle to live. But the
journey is often full of danger.Cars slide from the road in flash storms.

One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby
retirement home.At other times,we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and
even a personalized sketch()from a local artist.

28.Why is seafloor mapping important for exploring the ocean?
A.It reveals all objects on the seafloor.
B.It shows the seafloor in greater detail.

The phenomenon known as "TikTok Brain"arises from the app's short and addictive
videos.Similar to candy,these videos generate rapid dopamine()releases,
stimulating the brain's pleasure center.A study was conducted to investigate the impact of
Shorts on the teenage brains.37 They stimulated the brain's reward center more
intensely than random videos.
E.Short-term memory and the ability to concentrate are affected.
F.It revealed that these videos are personalized, selected and fed to users.
G.They're brief attention-grabbing videos that can be entertaining and addictive.

英语试题第11页(共16页)
Start off with five-minute silent walks and eventually build up to thirty minutes. If
you're usually a headphone wearer,it will feel super weird to walk without your go-to tunes.
Give yourself a second to adjust.Chances are, once you're a few minutes into your silent
walk, you'll feel the magic kick in.39
Regular reflection and ongoing documentation are essential. After completing a silent
walk, take time to reflect upon any emerging thoughts, feelings,or insights.40
Journaling about the experience can also solidify connections between thoughts and ideas,
providing a valuable tool for self-reflection and growth.
A.But being bored won't hurt you.
B.Taking different paths can lead to exciting discoveries.
C.However, you'll start noticing the urban landscape around you.
D.Adjusting the routine gradually can help ease into the experience.

As
the evening unfolded,Orion began sharing stories about his late wife, recounting their
adventures and the life they built together.
From then on,our friendship blossomed.I made it a point to spend time with him,
whether sharing a coffee or taking walks through the nearby park.Orion taught me about

have to go,Father?"Danny asked hesitantly."Son,sometimes the best lessons in life are
learned at camps,Father encouraged."But I never have the right words to say when
talking to someone new,"Danny complained."Alright, let's make a deal.If you learn
something good at this camp, this shall be the last holiday camp I sign you up for,"Father
responded with a proposal."Deal,"Danny replied.
Right after dinner on the first day at camp, everyone was busy packing their bags in
preparation for the night walk.Danny headed to the canteen to get a bottle of iced tea.Just
as Danny was about to secure the bottle cap,he was caught off-guard as someone suddenly
brushed past him and hit his arm.The bottle slipped out of his hands and fell to the floor.
Light brown liquid flowed out, creating ugly mess on the floor.Danny caught a flash of a
boy in a green T-shirt running off into the distance."How rude!"Danny shouted,gritting
his teeth.“Not even an apology!”'
Just then,Mr.Halim, the camp guide, approached Danny."What are you doing here?"
he asked but stopped midway when he saw the mess on the floor."It wasn't me!"Danny
raised his voice in his defence."You'll fix this mess you created before we head out for the
night walk,"Mr.Halim remarked, walking off in a hurry before Danny could explain
himself.
"How unfortunate,"Danny thought to himself."It wasn't even my fault to begin
with."Getting down on his knees,he started wiping up the mess.Twenty minutes passed
and the floor was dry.Danny managed to calm himself down and think clearly. He recalled
how Father had given him a second chance when he broke his vase()by mistake a week
ago.Realizing that what had happened just now might have been an accident,Danny
resolved to let the past rest.

It's 6:30 am.Inside the hotel's kitchen,Bastani threw pieces of wood onto a small fire

One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby
retirement home.At other times,we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and
even a personalized sketch()from a local artist.
I have heard some complaints that the Little Free Library does not always serve the
purpose of building community and may compete with our public libraries and independent

and we are intensely loyal users of the public system.

Payne, graduating from Harvard University and Cornell University with a doctor's
degree, authored or co-authored dozens of scientific papers, gave hundreds of lectures,
made countless television programmes and films, and led 100 oceanic expeditions.Payne had
started an ambitious new project:CETI,a combination of scientists using new technology to
interpret what whales might be“saying”.
28.What caused the decline of the whale population in the 20th century?

Exposure to a high-sugar diet has previously been linked to a raised risk of obesity,
type 2 diabetes()and high blood pressure.Whether this is a causal link is unclear,
and investigations into such questions are hampered since it's hard for researchers to force
people to follow specific diets. But the same isn't true of wartime governments,so Gracner
at the University of Southern California and her colleagues made use of a situation in World
War II that acted like a natural experiment.
In January 1940,a few months into the war,the UK began rationing (food,
数
which included limiting adults to around 40 grams of sugar daily.
One explanation might be that early
exposure to sugar sets up a preference for eating sweet things throughout life.It could also
lead to changes that reduce how well people control blood sugar levels, raising the risk of
type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure,Gracner says.

Sports Keep Me Fit

My favorite way to work out is regular jogging. Not
only does it help me improve my endurance, but also it
allows me to enjoy the beauty of nature.Besides,I also
participate in team sports, through which I can enhance
team work skills.
My advice to those who want to stay fit is to find an
activity that they truly enjoy. Then, set achievable goals
and make it a habit to exercise regularly.Last, remember
to warm up before any workout and cool down afterwards.

Dear Chris,
I am writing to share with you my participation in the
World Oceans Day poster design competition.I won the
first prize.
As for my work,I gave it an eye-catching name-
Their New Clothes.I created some animal images,
including a dolphin,a sea lion and so on,in cartoon style.
None of them, though dressed in new clothes made of
plastic wastes, felt glad. The cold color I employed added
to the sad atmosphere.
The entire experience was incredibly impressive.
From finding inspiration to collecting materials,I felt a
strong sense of satisfaction. In a word,it's not just an
activity;it's a journey of discovery and creation.
Yours,
Li Hua

To my surprise,Orion helped me even with my
study. As the semester progressed,I found myself
overwhelmed with my assignments.One afternoon,while
enjoying coffee together,I mentioned my struggles with a
challenging design project.Orion's eyes lit up with
enthusiasm. He began sharing his insights on color theory
and composition, drawing from his own experiences. He
also encouraged me to think outside the box.Later, with
each meeting,I felt a renewed sense of purpose and
confidence.Orion's support was a gift I had never
expected, transforming our friendship into a beautiful
collaboration that enriched my college experience.
One day,I approached Orion to seek his approval for
sharing our story online.I felt that it could inspire others
who might be facing loneliness or hardship. As I explained
my idea,Orion paused for a moment. He admitted that he
had always been hesitant to share his personal stories,
fearing judgment or pity. However,he also recognized the
power of storytelling in bridging gaps between people.
Finally,he agreed, seeing it as an opportunity to spread
hope and encourage others to reach out. Now,I began
crafting our story, determined to show our unique bond
online.

As Danny got up to leave,he saw the boy in the green
T-shirt approaching him."You...you..."Danny started.
“Please don't yell at me,”the boy begged.“Let me
explain.I'm Tom.I felt bad for causing the spill earlier
when I ran to get my flashlight for the night walk. That's
why I'm here to say sorry,he said sincerely."Well,I
was upset at first,"Danny admitted."But not anymore.I
figured you might not have done it on purpose,"he added.
For a few brief moments, they burst into laughter,
understanding the mutual relief they felt.
The next day when Father came to fetch Danny,he
saw a cheerful Danny. He was pleasantly surprised to see
Danny engaging in lively conversation with a boy in a green
T-shirt,face radiating with joy and enthusiasm.Truly
remarkable!As they drove home,Danny couldn't contain
his excitement, eagerly sharing stories about his new-
found friend."I had an amazing time and learned
something truly valuable!"Father replied,"Well done,
lad! So,according to our initial deal, this camp is the last
one,right?"Danny shook his head sharply,begging
eagerly for another trip to the camp.

Hello,everyone.Today,let's learn something about the
International Day of Charity. It is a day to draw attention
to the problem of poverty. For a variety of reasons, there
are many people in need around the world. Some of them,
particularly children, live in poverty, with no home or
food.Every day they struggle to survive.Caring people,to
the best of their ability, manage to save only some of
them. The other part remains unheard. But it's up to us to
fix it.The more people who care, the more lives will be
saved. So this day informs everyone about the problem and
encourages them to get involved in charity. The UN has set
September 5 as the International Day of Charity. The date
was not chosen by chance. The date is the anniversary of
the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.Mother Teresa
devoted her life to helping the poor and needy. Her work
helped countless people. She was awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize in 1979 for this.

It's useful to make some kind of visual records of what you see that you can add to your reports. And finally, you should not bring anything to eat into the museum or drinks of any kind. That's all I have to tell you. Please feel free to ask any questions if you would like to know anything else. Hello, this is the dinosaur museum. We're open every day of the week from ADM to nine PM, except mondays when we close at one thirty PM. And in fact, the only day in the year when we is on the twenty fifth of december, you can book a guide, a tour at any time that will open when you arrive. One or more of the tour guide will welcome you there and believe you about what the tour will be about in the museum. There's so much that you students can learn, and it's fun for students to have something to do. IT is a good opportunity for students to do projects, so you'll need to bring something to write with for these. We do allow students to take photographs.
As the temperature drops sharply, thousands of parents with sick children flood the
pass-the only land bridge open year-round that connects cities across northern Afghanistan
to the west-to reach the only well-equipped hospital.Young men take to the road to begin

their migrant journey into Iran in search of work as their families struggle to live. But the
journey is often full of danger.Cars slide from the road in flash storms.

One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby
retirement home.At other times,we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and
even a personalized sketch()from a local artist.
I have heard some complaints that the Little Free Library does not always serve the
purpose of building community and may compete with our public libraries and independent

Payne, graduating from Harvard University and Cornell University with a doctor's
degree, authored or co-authored dozens of scientific papers, gave hundreds of lectures,
made countless television programmes and films, and led 100 oceanic expeditions.Payne had
started an ambitious new project:CETI,a combination of scientists using new technology to
interpret what whales might be“saying”.
28.What caused the decline of the whale population in the 20th century?
A.Uncontrolled hunting.
B.The climate change.
C.Habitat loss.
D.The ocean pollution.

Exposure to a high-sugar diet has previously been linked to a raised risk of obesity,
type 2 diabetes()and high blood pressure.Whether this is a causal link is unclear,
and investigations into such questions are hampered since it's hard for researchers to force
people to follow specific diets. But the same isn't true of wartime governments,so Gracner
at the University of Southern California and her colleagues made use of a situation in World
War II that acted like a natural experiment.
In January 1940,a few months into the war,the UK began rationing (food,
数
which included limiting adults to around 40 grams of sugar daily.
One explanation might be that early
exposure to sugar sets up a preference for eating sweet things throughout life.It could also
lead to changes that reduce how well people control blood sugar levels, raising the risk of
type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure,Gracner says.
