There is little doubt that Earth is getting warmer and warmer. A warming ocean and atmosphere along with melting ice and rising sea levels provide evidence of a dramatic change in the global climate. In 2013, a lot of people were shocked by a news photo of a dead polar bear that was found on Norway’s Arctic island of Svalbard. According to the scientists who found its dead body, all that remained of the polar bear was “skin and bones”. An expert who has studied polar bears for many years said that from the position of its dead body, the bear appeared to have starved and died. Experts claimed that low sea-ice levels caused by climate change meant the bear could not hunt seals as before, so it had to travel greater distances in order to find food. This alarming case showed how the increase in temperature had an impact on Earth’s ecology. There is strong and comprehensive evidence that the rise in temperature has led to an increase in extreme weather and natural disasters worldwide, not only causing serious damage, but also costing human lives. Climate scientists have warned that if we do not take appropriate actions, this warming trend will probably continue and there will be a higher price to pay. In fact, news reports are frequently broadcast about extreme rainstorms and heatwaves causing deaths and economic losses. Continued greenhouse gas emissions (排放) will result in further warming and long-lasting changes to the global climate. This requires the attention of people all over the world. Governments need to consider making policies and taking appropriate actions and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We as individuals can also reduce our “carbon footprint” by restricting the amount of carbon dioxide our lifestyles produce. It is our responsibility to seize every opportunity to educate everyone about global warming, along with its causes and impacts, because this is the most serious issue affecting all of us on this planet. So what will you do to help? 1. What do you know about the dead polar bear? A. Its skin was seriously injured. B. Only bones of the dead body remained. C. It died because of the effects of climate change. D. It couldn’t adapt to the environment of Svalbard. 2. Why do the climate scientists give a warning? A. They have found more evidence. B. Climate change has brought disasters. C. They don’t want to find more dead animals. D. News reports deal with climate change wrongly. 3. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. It is impossible to control carbon dioxide emissions. B. Greenhouse gas emission is the most serious problem now. C. Our planet will not be habitable for humans to live on. D. Both governments and individuals should try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. B As long as I can remember having a phone in my hand, I’ve been a terrible replier. The sentence “Sorry, I missed this.” has quickly become a regular part of my texting vocabulary. When a new group chat is created, my friends will certainly come to laugh at my inability to respond to a simple question within hours. However, I’m not a horrible replier in all aspects of my life. In fact, I pride myself on my quick response when it comes to work emails and my mum. “Call me instead,” I tell my friends. They know if it’s urgent (紧急的) and they need me, I’ll pick up and always be there. But if I read a message and categorize it as non-urgent, then it’s a different story. When it comes to group chats, the conversations move so rapidly that if I’m not present for the first five minutes of the discussion, I’ve suddenly missed 67 messages about a party, a breakup, a comment on the latest movie — it’s easy to fall behind, and I do. I want to stress that I love my friends and I am grateful to be included in all of their group chats. I simply find it overwhelming (令人不知所措的) to keep up with the endless messages throughout the day. In these moments, I sometimes feel like throwing my phone into a lake. I recently asked my friend Tully how she felt about my poor texting habits. “You take three to five business days to respond if we’re lucky,” she tells me. “But to be fair,” she adds, “you always show up when we need you. You’re usually the one driving 40 minutes across town to see us. So, we can handle the group chat silence in return for that kind of friendship.” At this moment, I think about each friend’s role in the group — the frequent (频繁的) texter, the caller, the non-responder and how we all communicate and contribute to the group in different ways, all expressing love in different ways. 4. What is the author’s typical response to friends’ messages? A. Responding through calls. B. Staying silent in group chats. C. Apologizing for late replies. D. Avoiding giving a clear answer. 5. Why do group chats trouble the author? A. He often feels being ignored. B. The topics change too fast. C. He joins too many group chats. D. The messages grow too fast. 6. What does Tully think of the author? A. He is a careful driver. B. He is a dependable friend. C. He should be more thoughtful. D. He should be more active in group chats. 7. What message does the author want to give us in the last paragraph? A. Be a quick responder in group chats. B. Face-to-face communication matters. C. Friendship is shown in different ways. D. Too much texting can harm a relationship. C Tens of thousands of people are currently without power (电) in California, Texas and Arkansas, as wildfires sweep through the West and a winter storm hits the South. Research shows when the power fails, it also raises the risk of a host of health concerns — from gastrointestinal (胃肠的) illness to heart attacks and even burns. “We see a host of things happen when the power goes out,” says Joan Casey, a professor at the University of Washington. “We also see more people are sent to the hospital because of cardiorespiratory (心肺的) problems. We’ve seen increases in CO poisoning because people use generators (发电机) incorrectly. Our group has also found increases in injuries in children, including increases in burns after power outages (停电) started.” That’s likely a result of people using candles for lighting or gas cookers to generate heat. Motor vehicle accidents also tend to increase during power outages, probably because traffic lights and streetlights don’t work. When power outages last for several days, cases of gastrointestinal illness often rise, says Casey. That’s because a lack of electricity not only leads to food spoiling in refrigerators, but can also stop water treatment plants from working. Casey notes power outages frequently occur alongside extreme weather events or natural disasters such as wildfires. That increases the related health risks. While power outages affect everyone, Casey says, the most affected people tend to be young children, older adults and those who need medical equipment that depends on electricity, such as oxygen concentrators. “What might be an inconvenience to me could be a life-threatening situation for someone who can’t breathe well without an oxygen concentrator in their home,” Casey notes. “The best way to protect yourself in these situations is to plan ahead,” says Alyssa Provencio, a professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. 8. What happens in California, Texas and Arkansas? A. People are facing serious disasters. B. Heart attacks in children are on the rise. C. People suffer from food poisoning strangely. D. Many old people develop cardiorespiratory problems. 9. What does the underlined word “spoiling” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Going bad. B. Staying long. C. Being stored. D. Getting frozen. 10. What is the best way to protect oneself during power outages according to Provencio? A. To search for help. B. To remain indoors. C. To prepare in advance. D. To buy emergency equipment. 11. What would be the best title for the text? A. When power goes out, health risks rise B. When storms hit, their impact is easily seen C. When extreme weather strikes, injuries arise D. When natural disasters occur, power outages follow D Gabby Werre had a trip to Mexico City coming up. So, naturally, the self-described “panic (恐慌) buyer” went on a shopping spree (疯狂购物) at a local shopping center the night before. Werre posted the result, a $941.45 receipt (收据), on TikTok with the label: “Me before any vacation panic buying the entire store because I have nothing.” She had waited until the last minute to pick her travel supplies, ultimately packing everything in her suitcase and planning to return some items after the trip. Mehdi Hossain, an associate professor of marketing, noted that such purchases (购买) happen when “consumers experience a lack of control in their environment subject to upcoming uncertainties.” That lack of control increases people’s anxiety and drives them to behave in ways that reduce it and give them a sense of control again. The same idea, Hossain said, can apply to traveling — especially to new places. However, Andrew Stevenson, author of the book The Psychology of Travel, said panic buying ahead of the trip may not be wise and even keep people from enjoying the new experiences they seek on vacation. He once carried a huge jar of Marmite (一大罐马麦酱) as a comfort food to Malaysia during a cycling trip, because he was concerned about not being able to find food he could eat. “Nevertheless, I threw it away after one day on the bike, since the food in Malaysia is delicious, and Marmite is pretty heavy,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking straight and was panicked into buying the Marmite.” Deb Colameta, a consumer expert, said that there are a few preparations that can help travelers avoid a panic-driven shopping spree, such as keeping a checklist of your travel needs. Colameta suggests checking what you already have at home — medication, kid activities or other items — before rushing out to buy things before a trip. “It’s really annoying when you unpack something unopened that you ran to the store to buy because you didn’t think you could live without it,” she said. 12. What did Gabby Werre do before visiting Mexico City? A. She shopped like crazy. B. She bought many new clothes. C. She returned some of her purchases. D. She started packing weeks in advance. 13. Why do people feel anxious before starting a trip according to Mehdi Hossain? A. Be afraid of getting lost in a new city. B. Be afraid of dangers in a trip. C. A lack of company in a new place. D. A lack of control in a new environment. 14. What can be inferred from Stevenson’s words about his Malaysia trip? A. He never opened his suitcase. B. He regretted packing Marmite. C. He found comfort food necessary. D. He avoided trying Malaysian food. 15. Which is Colameta’s advice on travelers’ pre-trip planning? A. Buy daily necessities ahead of time. B. Stick to your suggested shopping list. C. Pack everything you’ll need for the trip. D. Check what you already have before buying. Body language, sometimes called "non-verbal communication", is an important tool. It was the school holidays, and they had a week full of exciting events planned. Looking at the many parents accompanying the young robot builders, Polly felt a sense of hope. During the first weeks of his retirement from the fire service, Max had felt lost. And that’s when Polly had signed him up as a library volunteer. This ex-firefighter worked two days at first, then full-time. Now he was taking on a new challenge: leading the Robot Club. It was a big step for him, but he was determined to make it work. As he opened the packs containing the robot parts, he looked at the mess of parts spread across the table. A dozen primary-age children gathered around, their eyes shining with excitement. Almost double the number of adults gathered nearby, watching eagerly. Max felt beads of sweat (汗珠) run down his forehead. Despite his first hesitation, he was ready to take this opportunity. “Okay, everyone! Let’s get started!” Max called out, trying to sound confident. He remembered how Polly had encouraged him to create a space for hands-on learning and creativity. The idea of building robots excited him, despite his limited knowledge. “We’re going to build something amazing together!” Eight-year-old Noah, a bright boy, stepped forward and offered to help. His eagerness was infectious (有感染力的), and Max felt himself relax a little. He stepped aside to let Noah take the lead. With Noah guiding the assembly (组装), the room filled with energy. Max watched as the other children nodded, fully engaged. As they worked together, he felt a sense of friendship building among them. An hour later, Polly observed the activity with pride. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With this newfound confidence, Max began to consider how he could do more for the club. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 新民学校2025-2026学年度第一学期期中考试 高二英语试卷 分值:150分 考试时间:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题,每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A, B, C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置,听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题,每段对话仅读一遍。 1. 根据第二段“An expert who has studied polar bears for many years said that from the position of its dead body, the bear appeared to have starved and died.(一位长期研究北极熊的专家表示,从这只北极熊的尸体情况来看,它显然是因饥饿而死亡的)”和“Experts claimed that low sea-ice levels caused by climate change meant the bear could not hunt seals as before, so it had to travel greater distances in order to find food.(专家称,气候变化导致海冰覆盖率下降,这使得北极熊无法像以前那样捕猎海豹,因此它不得不长途跋涉以寻找食物)”可推知,那只死去的北极熊死于气候变化的影响。 根据倒数第二段“There is strong and comprehensive evidence that the rise in temperature has led to an increase in extreme weather and natural disasters worldwide, not only causing serious damage, but also costing human lives. Climate scientists have warned that if we do not take appropriate actions, this warming trend will probably continue and there will be a higher price to pay.(有大量且确凿的证据表明,气温的上升导致了全球范围内极端天气和自然灾害的增多,不仅造成了严重的破坏,还夺走了许多人的生命。气候科学家警告称,如果我们不采取适当的措施,这种变暖趋势很可能会持续下去,而付出的代价也会更高)”可知,气候学家要发出警告是因为气候变化带来了灾难。故选B。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Governments need to consider making policies and taking appropriate actions and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We as individuals can also reduce our “carbon footprint” by restricting the amount of carbon dioxide our lifestyles produce.(政府需要考虑制定相关政策,并采取适当的行动和措施来减少温室气体排放。而作为个人,我们也可以通过限制自身生活方式所产生的二氧化碳量来减少“碳足迹”)”可推知,政府和个人都应该努力减少温室气体的排放。故选D。 B As long as I can remember having a phone in my hand, I’ve been a terrible replier. C 5. D 6. B 7. 根据第一段“The sentence “Sorry, I missed this.” has quickly become a regular part of my texting vocabulary.(“对不起,我没看到。”这句话已经迅速成为了我短信交流中常用的表达方式之一)”可知,作者对朋友的留言通常会为回复延迟而道歉。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“When it comes to group chats, the conversations move so rapidly that if I’m not present for the first five minutes of the discussion, I’ve suddenly missed 67 messages about a party, a breakup, a comment on the latest movie — it’s easy to fall behind, and I do.(说到群聊的话,交流的速度实在太快了。如果我在讨论开始的前五分钟还没上线,那么我就会突然错过关于聚会、分手、对最新电影的评论等多达67条消息——很容易就会掉队,而我也确实会这样)”可知,群聊会让作者感到烦恼,因为消息更新得太快了。故选D。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““But to be fair,” she adds, “you always show up when we need you. You’re usually the one driving 40 minutes across town to see us. So, we can handle the group chat silence in return for that kind of friendship.”(“不过说实话,”她接着说道,“每次我们需要你的时候,你都会准时出现。你通常会驱车40分钟从很远的地方赶来见我们。所以,为了这份情谊,我们也能忍受群聊中的沉默。”)”可知,塔利认为作者是个值得信赖的朋友。故选B。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“At this moment, I think about each friend’s role in the group — the frequent (频繁的) texter, the caller, the non-responder and how we all communicate and contribute to the group in different ways, all expressing love in different ways.(此刻,我回想起每个朋友在小组中的角色——那些频繁发消息的人、打电话的人、不回复消息的人,以及我们所有人如何以不同的方式相互交流并为这个小组做出贡献,而这一切都以不同的方式表达了爱意)”可知,作者在最后一段想要传达友谊的表现形式各不相同。故选C。 C Tens of thousands of people are currently without power (电) in California, Texas and Arkansas, as wildfires sweep through the West and a winter storm hits the South. When natural disasters occur, power outages follow 【答案】8. A 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第一段“Tens of thousands of people are currently without power (电) in California, Texas and Arkansas, as wildfires sweep through the West and a winter storm hits the South.(目前,加利福尼亚州、德克萨斯州和阿肯色州数万人遭遇停电,西部正遭遇野火肆虐,南部则受到冬季风暴侵袭。)” 故选A项。 根据第三段“When power outages last for several days, cases of gastrointestinal illness often rise, says Casey. That’s because a lack of electricity not only leads to food spoiling in refrigerators, but can also stop water treatment plants from working. (凯西表示,若停电持续数日,胃肠道疾病的病例往往会增多。这是因为断电不仅会导致冰箱里的食物spoiling,还会致使水处理厂停运。)”可知,断电后冰箱无法制冷,食物会因变质引发胃肠道疾病,因此spoiling意为“变坏、变质”。故选A项。 根据最后一段“The best way to protect yourself in these situations is to plan ahead,” says Alyssa Provencio, a professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. 通读全文特别是第二段“Research shows when the power fails, it also raises the risk of a host of health concerns — from gastrointestinal illness to heart attacks and even burns. 所以A项When power goes out, health risks rise(停电时,健康风险上升)符合主旨。故选A项。 D Gabby Werre had a trip to Mexico City coming up. 12. A 13. D 14. B 15. I am not a Sami, but in Sarek I’ve adopted some of their habits. For example, this morning my breakfast is flat bread warmed over a fire and some _____45_____ (extreme) delicious berries that I found growing near my tent. 36. buffeting 37. branches 38. to be covered 39. melted 40. left 41. were 42. on 43. a 44. where 45. extremely 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据句意可知,此处为used to do... 故填to be covered。 故填were。 故填on。 故填a。 故填where。 针对这一现象,你班上周举行了以“Should autonomous vehicles be widely promoted?” Should autonomous vehicles (无人驾驶汽车) be widely promoted? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 Should autonomous vehicles be widely promoted? An English debate titled “Should autonomous vehicles be widely promoted?” was held in our class last week. There was heated discussion on both sides. Supporters believe that not only do autonomous vehicles have the potential to reduce traffic accidents caused by human errors, but they also give senior citizens and people with disabilities greater mobility. However, those who are against the promotion think there are still technical problems to be addressed, such as improving extreme weather performance, in addition to many human drivers possibly losing their jobs. As for me, I think autonomous vehicles should be widely promoted because, without the need to drive, we can use our time in the car to work or study. 针对这一现象,你班上周举行了以“Should autonomous vehicles be widely promoted?” An English debate titled "Should autonomous vehicles be widely promoted?" was held in our class last week. An English debate, whose title is “Should autonomous vehicles be widely promoted?", was held in our class last week. 【点睛】【高分句型 1】Supporters believe that not only do autonomous vehicles have the potential to reduce traffic accidents caused by human errors, but they also give senior citizens and people with disabilities greater mobility.(运用了that引导的宾语从句和not only置于句首引出的部分倒装) 【高分句型 2】However, those who are against the promotion think there are still technical problems to be addressed, such as improving extreme weather performance, in addition to many human drivers possibly losing their jobs.(运用了who引导的定语从句) 第二节 (满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 “Busy today, isn’t it?” library manager Polly smiled as she helped Max set up for the newly formed Robot Club. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 An hour later, Polly observed the activity with pride. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With this newfound confidence, Max began to consider how he could do more for the club. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 An hour later, Polly observed the activity with pride. “You’re doing an amazing job, Max!” she smiled. Max felt warmth spread through him, realizing how far he had come since starting this role. With the kids diving into the project, their laughter and enthusiasm filled the room, creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement. Both Polly’s encouragement and the kids’ performance lifted Max’s confidence. Polly’s steady support reminded him that he had found a new purpose here. He found himself enjoying the experience more than he had thought possible, feeling a sense of belonging he hadn’t felt in a long time. With this newfound confidence, Max began to consider how he could do more for the club. The thought of reaching the kids about fire safety awakened a passion in his heart. He could combine his firefighting experience with the creativity of the Robot Club, making safety fun and engaging. Excitement grew within him as he pictured hands-on activities where kids could build safety tools alongside their robots. Max realized that it was a chance to inspire the next generation while sharing important skills. He knew this was just the beginning of an incredible journey and this new beginning made him feel alive again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①投入项目:dive into the project/immerse oneself in the project/get involved in the project ② 提升信心:lift one’s confidence/boost one’s confidence/enhance one’s confidence ③意识到:realize/be aware 情绪类 ①令人惊喜的:amazing/surprising ②激情:passion/enthusiasm 【点睛】【高分句型1】Excitement grew within him as he pictured hands-on activities where kids could build safety tools alongside their robots.
