Turned down from job applications due to her blindness, Erin decided to create her own path. Within a year, she established White Cane Coffee, becoming its CEO and proving that her disability would not stop her ambitions.(艾琳·威尔曼在15岁时失明,她面临着许多挑战,因为人们经常告诉她她不能做什么,但她想向他们展示她能做什么。 根据第二段“The company’s commitment to inclusiveness is evident in its unique product labeling: each package features symbols designed for the blind, making it one of the pioneering companies to label all products this way. This addresses Erin’s belief that visually disabled individuals should be able to shop independently.(公司对包容性的承诺体现在其独特的产品标签上:每个包装上都有为盲人设计的符号,使其成为以这种方式标记所有产品的先驱公司之一。 根据第三段“The company provides jobs at a livable wage, offering freedoms and enriching the lives of employees who are often unfairly treated. Erin’s team emphasizes that their mission goes beyond wages—it instills (注入) hope and demonstrates the value of every employee as part of a larger effort.(该公司提供工资可维持生活的工作,为经常受到不公平待遇的员工提供自由,丰富他们的生活。 根据第一段中“Erin Willman, who lost her sight at fifteen, faced many challenges as people often told her what she cannot do, but she wanted to show them what she can do.(艾琳·威尔曼在15岁时失明,她面临着许多挑战,因为人们经常告诉她她不能做什么,但她想向他们展示她能做什么)”可知,Erin虽然失明,但面对挑战不屈不挠,决心向人们展示自己的能力,说明她意志坚定;以及根据第三段中“The company provides jobs at a livable wage, offering freedoms and enriching the lives of employees who are often unfairly treated.(该公司提供工资可维持生活的工作,为经常受到不公平待遇的员工提供自由,丰富他们的生活)”和第四段“Erin prioritizes social impact over material wealth, aiming to use her position to improve lives. Erin and her team hope to continue to create additional jobs, which will help even more people become independent.(艾琳优先考虑社会影响,而不是物质财富,她的目标是利用自己的地位改善生活。 C It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage restorers at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The team is committed to protecting the 45,000 square meters of murals (壁画) and more than 2,400 painted sculptures of the 735 caves of the site. The cultural relics are the product of the cultural exchanges that took place over centuries on the ancient Silk Road. “Our work, repairing murals and painted sculptures, is to better preserve the caves, which promotes the great Dunhuang spirit of inclusiveness to the world and inspires modern people,” says Su Bomin, director of the Dunhuang Academy. Commonly seen “diseases” affecting the murals include cracking and chipping (裂痕), as well as erosion (侵蚀) that is caused by changes in temperature and moisture of the caves. To restore a mural requires a multi-talented individual, and restorers should know painting, master the skills of craft and have some knowledge of chemistry and physics, to be able to recognize the problems and their corresponding causes and deliver a solution. They must also select proper materials and tools, and conduct experiments, before formally carrying out the restoration and evaluating the effect afterward. The restoration should respect the original work and aim to maintain the current situation of the murals rather than repainting them. When the restorers find some parts of murals missing or fading away, they never repaint them to create a “perfect” appearance in restoration. “Cultural relics are witnesses of history,” explains Su. “When you pursue the so-called intact (完好的) look for artistic reasons, you will lose their key meaning.” Cave conservation is about continuously solving problems. “It needs a long-term research to better preserve the caves, over a much wider time span that goes beyond our lifetime,” Su says. But at least, they can keep the current look of the murals for as long as possible. 8. Why does the Dunhuang Academy restore the murals? A To promote cultural exchanges. B. To help study the ancient Silk Road. C. To spread the spirit of Dunhuang globally. D. To keep it on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. 9. How does the author feel the restoration work? A. Creative. B. Traditional. C. Risky. D. Demanding. 10. What does Su suggest about restoring mural? A. It is advised to keep its current state. B. It is supposed to pursue a perfect look. C. Its missing parts should be restored in time. D. It can be repainted to fix its appearance. 11. Which can be the best title for the text? A. The Significance of Mural Preservation. B. The Artistic Charm of Mural Paintings. C. The Mural Restoration in the Mogao Caves. D. The Experiments on Cave Conservation. C 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“The team is committed to protecting the 45,000 square meters of murals (壁画) and more than 2,400 painted sculptures of the 735 caves of the site. The cultural relics are the product of the cultural exchanges that took place over centuries on the ancient Silk Road. “Our work, repairing murals and painted sculptures, is to better preserve the caves, which promotes the great Dunhuang spirit of inclusiveness to the world and inspires modern people,” says Su Bomin, director of the Dunhuang Academy.(该团队致力于保护该遗址735个洞穴的45,000平方米壁画和2,400多个彩绘雕塑。 根据第三段中的“To restore a mural requires a multi-talented individual, and restorers should know painting, master the skills of craft and have some knowledge of chemistry and physics, to be able to recognize the problems and their corresponding causes and deliver a solution. They must also select proper materials and tools, and conduct experiments, before formally carrying out the restoration and evaluating the effect afterward.(修复壁画需要一个多面手,修复人员应该懂得绘画,掌握手工技能,并具备一定的化学和物理知识,能够识别问题及其相应的原因,并提供解决方案。 根据第四段中的“The restoration should respect the original work and aim to maintain the current situation of the murals rather than repainting them.(修复应尊重原作,以保持壁画的现状为目标,而不是重新粉刷)”和““Cultural relics are witnesses of history,” explains Su. “When you pursue the so-called intact (完好的) look for artistic reasons, you will lose their key meaning.”(“文物是历史的见证者,”苏解释说,“当你出于艺术的原因而追求所谓的完整外观时,你就会失去它们的关键意义。”)” 故选A项。 根据第一段“It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage restorers at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.(这是一场与时间的赛跑,因为敦煌研究院的几代文化遗产修复人员都在努力保护莫高窟的艺术魅力,莫高窟被联合国教科文组织列为世界遗产)”以及后文对修复工作的目的、要求等的介绍可知,文章主要讲述的是莫高窟的文物修复工作,所以C项“莫高窟的壁画修复”最适合作本文标题。故选C项。 D Evolution (进化) can bring extraordinary makeovers. Today’s songbirds evolved from the wingless dinosaurs that wandered millions of years ago. But some creatures seem to be unchanged — in other words, escape natural selection. The coelacanth, a modern-day fish, looks almost the same as its 410-million-year-old fossils. Scientists have long wondered how these species do so. It has been assumed that natural selection keeps some species unchanged by selecting for average qualities (stabilizing selection) rather than selecting for more extreme qualities (directional selection) that would cause a species to change. But a study published in the National Academy of Sciences USA conflicts with this idea, showing that evolution constantly offers different qualities to those seemingly unchanging animals to improve short-term survival. In the long term, though, “all that evolution cancels out (相互抵消) and leads to no change,” says the study’s lead author, James Stroud. Stroud and his colleagues studied lizards (蜥蜴), all relatively unchanged for 20 million years. The researchers caught members of lizard groups every six months for three years. They measured each lizard’s head size, leg length, mass and height, as well as the size of its sticky toes, noting which individuals survived. He saw clearer evidence of directional selection: some lizards with unique characteristics, such as stickier toes, survived better. “The study offers a good explanation,” says Tadashi Fukami, an ecologist studying evolution at Stanford University. Many new qualities are evolving in the short term, but they don’t provide a crucial advantage over the long term. In other words, species staying unchanged may simply have found the best possible combination of qualities for lasting success in their environment. So what happens when the lizards’ environment changes more dramatically? To help answer this bigger question, Stroud is still making trips to visit the lizards. 12. Why does the underlined word “makeover” refer to in paragraph 1? A. Challenges. B. Benefits. C. Changes. D. Abilities. 13. What’s the focus of paragraph 2? A. A common belief. B. A new definition. C. Unsolved mysteries. D. Unique characteristics. 14. What can we learn from the study of James Stroud? A. Evolution causes long-term physical changes in lizard populations. B. Evolution helps lizards develop new species over millions of years. C. Evolution prevents lizards from changing their physical characteristics. D. Evolution brings lizards short-term survival qualities that cancel out over time. 15. What will Stroud probably do in the future? A. Make trips to visit lizard experts. B. Summarize average features of lizards. C. Reveal the best combinations of qualities. D. Examine lizards under extreme conditions. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据后文“Today’s songbirds evolved from the wingless dinosaurs that wandered millions of years ago. But some creatures seem to be unchanged — in other words, escape natural selection.(今天的鸣禽是从数百万年前漫游的无翼恐龙进化而来的。 根据第二段“Scientists have long wondered how these species do so. It has been assumed that natural selection keeps some species unchanged by selecting for average qualities (stabilizing selection) rather than selecting for more extreme qualities (directional selection) that would cause a species to change.(长期以来,科学家们一直想知道这些物种是如何做到的。 故选A项。 根据第三段“But a study published in the National Academy of Sciences USA conflicts with this idea, showing that evolution constantly offers different qualities to those seemingly unchanging animals to improve short-term survival. In the long term, though, “all that evolution cancels out (相互抵消) and leads to no change,” says the study’s lead author, James Stroud.(但美国国家科学院发表的一项研究与这一观点相冲突,该研究表明,进化不断为那些看似不变的动物提供不同的品质,以提高短期生存能力。 根据最后一段中的“So what happens when the lizards’ environment changes more dramatically? To help answer this bigger question, Stroud is still making trips to visit the lizards.(那么,当蜥蜴的环境发生更剧烈的变化时会发生什么呢? In early October, Travis Gienger transported a huge pumpkin from his home in Minnesota to the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in California. His pumpkin set the record for the biggest one ever grown in North America. How do competitive growers get their pumpkins to grow to massive sizes? ___16___ Gienger, who teaches horticulture (园艺学) at Anoka Technical College, begins growing his pumpkins in mid-April, starting with seeds that he grows indoors for the first few weeks, when Minnesota’s soil is too icy. ___17___ They can absorb sunlight, nutrients from the soil, and water there. “At their peak, you’re watering them with at least 600 liters a day,” he says. Depending on the variety, pumpkin plants can grow up to a dozen fruits on a single vine (藤蔓). But to maximize size, growers remove all but one or two of these pumpkins in order to decrease each individual fruit’s competition for resources. ___18___ But what exactly happens inside a pumpkin as it grows? Two factors drive natural growth: cell division and cell expansion. Cell division accounts for most of the growth at the beginning of a fruit’s life. This period lasts for about 20 days in pumpkin plants. ___19___ Pumpkin cells will expand until around 50 or 60 days after pollination (授粉). ___20___ Some varieties of pumpkins have been bred specifically to maximize their size. Still, there is genetic variation even among pumpkins of the same variety. This has led to competition for the best seeds. Following each harvest, many growers auction off (拍卖掉) the seeds from their biggest pumpkins, which will then be used for the following year’s plantings. A. Biology has the answers. B. Genetics also influences pumpkin growth. C. The following tips will give you a head start. D. When it stops, cell expansion will then take effect. E. Once it warms up, the plants are transferred outside. F. Growers extend the growth period for as long as possible. G. Growers also remove the weeds in the area for the same reason. A 17. E 18. G 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 前文“His pumpkin set the record for the biggest one ever grown in North America. How do competitive growers get their pumpkins to grow to massive sizes? 故选A。 【17题详解】 前文“Gienger, who teaches horticulture (园艺学) at Anoka Technical College, begins growing his pumpkins in mid-April, starting with seeds that he grows indoors for the first few weeks, when Minnesota’s soil is too icy. 提到天气寒冷时Gienger先在室内培育种子,后文“They can absorb sunlight, nutrients from the soil, and water there. 描述植物在户外的生长细节,因此E项“Once it warms up, the plants are transferred outside. 【18题详解】 前文“Depending on the variety, pumpkin plants can grow up to a dozen fruits on a single vine (藤蔓). But to maximize size, growers remove all but one or two of these pumpkins in order to decrease each individual fruit’s competition for resources. 提到种植者只保留1到2个南瓜以减少资源竞争,因此G项“Growers also remove the weeds in the area for the same reason. 【19题详解】 前文“Cell division accounts for most of the growth at the beginning of a fruit’s life. Still, there is genetic variation even among pumpkins of the same variety. Throughout my childhood, I would finish any type of race in the bottom half. In my late teens, as a member of a baseball team, I was the slowest runner on the team. Therefore, twenty years later, when I entered my first official running race — a 3,000-meter challenge in my city at age thirty-eight, I felt very nervous. I was there because my college friend Sim Hosek was the director of the race, and he asked me to run. The race was aimed at raising money for the poor patients in a hospital and encouraging the patients and their families to be brave, determined, and confident with sportsmanship. It was a heartwarming program. I wanted to support it, so I wore the race number pinned (把……别上) on my back, and moved over to the starting line. There, I waited with about 300 other runners for the race to begin. I was nervous. Would I be the last one to finish again? Could I even finish the race? I wondered. Before long, someone spoke into a microphone, "Anyone weighing over 200 pounds comes down to the scale (秤), please.” Knowing I was over 200 pounds, I walked down to the scale. A man asked me to stand on it. “Two hundred and three pounds,” he said. Then he wrote down the race number that was on my back. Out of curiosity, I asked him why he did so, and then I was told there would be an award ceremony (仪式) after the race. One award was for the first finisher in the over 200-pound group, and this special award would be given (颁发) at the end of the race. Not expecting the award I ran towards the starting line, never realizing there were only two runners weighing over 200 pounds. Soon after, the race started. While I was running, I saw many runners pass me on the way. 注意: 续写词数应为100个左右; 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Minutes later, I already felt tired. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 Minutes later, I already felt tired. With a final push, I passed him and crossed the finish line. I got the award and realized: courage and persistence matter more than speed. C It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage restorers at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A. To promote cultural exchanges. D Evolution (进化) can bring extraordinary makeovers. A A common belief. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In early October, Travis Gienger transported a huge pumpkin from his home in Minnesota to the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in California. C The following tips will give you a head start. D. When it stops, cell expansion will then take effect. E. Once it warms up, the plants are transferred outside. F. Growers extend the growth period for as long as possible. G. Growers also remove the weeds in the area for the same reason. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 Even before I opened my eyes I could tell that things had gone wrong. Not expecting the award, I ran towards the starting line, never realizing there were only two runners weighing over 200 pounds. Soon after, the race started. While I was running, I saw many runners pass me on the way. Minutes later, I already felt tired. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
