Here are some of the best places I discovered when I was sent to the branch in Paris to cover an event. Groundstate Café Sitting in the heart of the city Groundstate Café is always recommended by news reporters. You can easily enjoy a care-free day with a book and a cup of coffee. Groundstate is a popular spot for artists because of the ancient paintings collected by the shop owner. The waiters are always ready to help you. Le Procope Located on a downtown street, Le Procope is famous for its enthusiastic service and delicious snacks. Office workers always chat with their friends and have fun with their colleagues. You can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine because they only have seats outdoors. As a result, the owner only runs the shop during the warm seasons. Coutume Café Situated in the city centre, Coutume Café is popular among businessmen to meet their clients. The cafe promotes a life of luxury with fantastic decoration and comfortable chairs. Waiters who are highly educated and elegant can help visitors choose the right type of coffee. Motors This recently-opened coffee shop is located in the countryside. They sell delicious local desserts. The waitresses there are helpful and friendly. Some of them are college students who take part-time jobs during weekends. It is also a perfect shopping market for people to buy some coffee products and taste some local delicacies. I am sure that I will bring some products to my colleagues when I return. 1. Which place attracts art lovers? A. Le Procope. B. Groundstate Café. C. Countume Café D. Motors. 2. What do Le Procope and Motors have in common? A. They have a long history. B. They both offer tasty food. C. They are located downtown. D. They are open all year round. 3. What does the writer probably do? A. A French artist. B. A famous cook. C. A waitress in Cafe. D. A news reporter. B It was February 24, 2017, and my husband, David, and I were both at work. It was a day like any other. Our 15-year-old son, Justin, his sister and his friend Mike were playing with a ball in our backyard. Completely a common day! What happened next was exactly a storm. Justin suddenly suffered cardiac arrest (心脏停搏) caused by a hit to the chest, and his heart just stopped. No pulse, no heartbeat. There are only about 10 to 20 cases a year. And it was almost always deadly until recently, when CPR (心肺复苏) has worked in up to one-third of cases. Thankfully, the other children acted immediately instead of freezing in fear. Mike called 911 while my daughter called my husband. That second call proved vitally important, as my husband was able to get in touch with a neighbor who ran over and started CPR. And later, the doctors arrived and quickly shocked Justin’s heartbeat rhythm (节奏) back to normal. Since then, I’ve found myself changed as a parent. There is more worry now. This unexpected incident has made me realize that anything can happen to my children. So, we’re doing what we can to be prepared. Earlier this year, Justin took part in a community education event with our fire department teaching Hands-Only CPR to the public. At least 100 participants showed up, and Justin shared his story to show why CPR is so important. At a local university where I work as a nurse lecturer, I’ve volunteered to join the CPR and AED first aid training for incoming freshmen. David and I feel very fortunate to still have our son with us. If the kids hadn’t known to call 911, he wouldn’t be here. If our neighbor hadn’t known CPR, Justin wouldn’t be here. I think everyone should take the time to learn CPR. You could save a life — maybe the life of someone you love. Cardiac arrest often comes without warning. Everything will be normal right up until the point it isn’t. You have to know what to do. 4. Why does the author say the incident was a storm? A. Her son played dangerous sports. B. Her son had a close encounter with death. C. Her children made a real mess when playing. D. Her neighbor complained of the children's noise. 5. How did the author feel about the other children’s responses? A. Curious. B. Grateful. C. Surprised. D. Puzzled. 6. What did the author and Justin do after the incident? A. They worked as medical workers. B. They shared their stories on speaking tours. C. They trained others in first aid skills. D. They introduced first aid courses to schools. 7. What does the last paragraph mainly highlight? A. The theory behind CPR. B. The ways of ensuring child safety. C. The causes of cardiac arrest. D. The importance of learning first aid. C Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources. Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test. The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short maths tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers employed younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B-for those who did not. “What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.” But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance. 8. What may the students start worrying about before an exam? A. Whether they can pass the exams. B. What other students do during the test. C. Whether they have remembered the materials. D. What kind of problems they will meet oa the test paper. 9. What is the solution developed by the researchers? A. Asking the students to ignore the test B. Asking the students to focus on the test. C. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test. D. Asking the students to write about their worries before the test. 10. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about? A. The negative effect of test anxiety. B. The solution to better school performance. C. The benefit of feeling-telling before tests. D. The way to get well prepared for tests. 11. What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. Students should use all chances to improve their performance. B. We can only write about our worries right before an exam. C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room. D. It is beneficial wherever we write about our worries before an exam. D New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the “mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us? Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re good at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet. The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parents it might be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting which helps the brand’s content rank higher in search results. And for the doctor, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ tries to quantify our ability to make wise use of present technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and make use of future creations. This adoption is of great importance from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the way AI and search interact and operate is changing for just about everyone. Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in predicting the potential for a child’s success. But what about technology? The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a key aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smartphones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to include technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it. While this shift brings challenges, it’s unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn — turning adaptability with tech into a measurable advantage. 12. What is TQ according to the text? A. Ability to use new technologies. B. Skill of repairing high-tech products. C. Talent to follow modern changes. D. Speed of learning new languages. 13. Which of the following people has a high TQ? A. A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance. B. A manager who often uses modern search engines. C. A grandparent who finds new tech devices challenging. D. A mom who watches videos of her child’s school life. 14. What does the underlined word “assimilate” in the fourth paragraph mean? A. Depend on. B. Take in. C. Lie in. D. Insist on. 15. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ? B. What Makes TQ the New Intelligence? C. How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era? D. Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Master body language in public speaking In public speaking, body language can make or break your presentation. With the drama festival approaching, the school’s drama club had released a notice for the dancer audition (试镜) for The Twelve Dancing Princesses. And of course I was the first one to sign up. As I left the stage after my audition at school, I could feel it. The power. The future. I knew that someday when dancers’ magazines wrote about me, they would say this moment was when my rise to a star began. My ballet slippers hurt my feet, but I figured that was helpful. In The Twelve Dancing Princesses, the princesses danced all night so they probably had foot pain, too. My performance was more genuine because of my pain. I needed to show my devotion even when I wasn’t on stage, so I approached Mr. Ellison, the drama club advisor. He told me that casting (角色分配) will be posted tomorrow.“ Thank you, sir,” I said, using the almost British pronunciation of Hollywood stars in the 1940s. I was so sure that Mr. Ellison would cast me as a princess. The next morning, I went to read the cast list. The twelve princesses were first, by number. I scanned from One to Twelve, but none by me. At the bottom of the casting list, my name finally appeared. My role was a really small one, an old woman who helped a soldier, not one of the princesses! I was desperately disappointed. Mr. Ellison must have made a mistake! No one else in the school had my skills or preparation!. I found him in his classroom, but he insisted there was no mistake and emphasized that every role in a play was important. Unable to accept the fact, I burst into tears. Mr. Ellison managed to calm me down and encouraged me to have a try in the rehearsal (排练). 注意:1. 续写词数应为 150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The next day, I dragged myself to the rehearsal. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, the great day arrived and “the old woman” couldn’t wait to get on stage. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 包九中外国语学校高二年级英语学科评估卷 2025年12月 第一部分 听力(共两节, 满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1. 5分, 满分7. 5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题, 从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后, 你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. B. 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting, which helps the brand’s content rank higher in search results. 【答案】12. A 13. A 14. B 15. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The next day, I dragged myself to the rehearsal, still feeling disheartened. As we began, I watched the princesses dance gracefully, a twinge of jealousy stirring within me. But then, as I started to act out my role, something shifted. Mr. Ellison’s words echoed in my mind, “Every role is important.” Gradually, I immersed myself in the character of the old woman. My lines flowed naturally, and I found a newfound respect for my role. To my surprise, my performance drew applause from my peers. This small role, I realized, could be a powerful one. Finally, the great day arrived, and “the old woman” couldn’t wait to get on stage. As the curtains opened, a rush of excitement filled me. I delivered my lines with conviction, feeling more alive on stage than I had ever been. The audience laughed at my humorous lines, and I felt a sense of accomplishment. When the final curtain fell, the applause was deafening. Mr. Ellison’s words had been right — every role was important. I had found my place in the spotlight, not as a princess, but as an old woman who helped a soldier. And it was enough. 词汇激活 行为类 ①改变:shift/change ②投入:immerse/engage in ③发现:find/discover 情绪类 ①失望:disheartened/disappointed ②嫉妒的:jealous/envious ③令我惊讶的是:to my surprise/to my amazement 【点睛】[高分句型1] As we began, I watched the princesses dance gracefully, a twinge of jealousy stirring within me.
