Hello everyone! Meet my new friend Marco. He says Ciao! This means hello in his language. Marco travelled with me this month. When he showed me his country on the map, I was attracted by it. It looks like a high-heeled boot (高跟靴) in the Mediterranean Sea that’s kicking a strange-shaped ball. Can you find the name of this ball on the world map?
Marco told me that he loves cars and that his country is well-known for super-fast car brands. Isn’t it cool? The people also love soccer here. They call it “Calcio”. He told me that they have won many World Cups. As he explained it to me, his eyes lit up; you could hear the excitement and satisfaction in his voice.
We visited the country’s capital and I was amazed to find that it was more than 2,500 years old! We walked around and soon it was time for dinner. Marco told me that people there eat pasta (意式面食) at least once a day. Different sauces and toppings (酱汁和佐料) mean they never get bored of it. Also, they love including seasonal vegetables in their dinners. I couldn’t wait to enjoy the pizza and pasta with different toppings and sauces. The cappuccino and focaccia bread also made me happy. It’s no wonder that the world has adopted so much of their food! The people in this country celebrate many holidays and enjoy eating big meals with their family. The festive atmosphere makes everyone happy.
I was lucky to travel to this country in March and enjoy the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Held for four days every year, it is the world’s leading trade show for children’s publishing. We also visited the Colosseum, Pantheon, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was really wonderful! Before I said goodbye to Marco, I made a promise to visit again. Can you guess the name of this country?

B. Its unique shape.
C. Its location in the sea.
D. Its famous landmarks.
5 How did Marco feel when he mentioned Calcio?

C. Proud. D. Thankful.
6. What can we know about the food in Marco’s country?
A. It is very simple.
B. It makes Marco feel bored.
C. It is influenced by foreign food.
D. It has spread around the world.
7. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To show a friendship.
B. To celebrate a festival.

The global use of streaming media has provided fans of niche sports (小众体育) with easy access to international sports programs, and for followers of traditional major sports, a way to get to know niche sports. The increase of viewership platforms in the digital age has enabled many fans to explore their favorite niche sports deeper, while others actively discover new sports to follow and enjoy. Accordingly, fan clubs for niche sports have been growing.
Among the most noticeable developments in recent years that catch the fans’ attention is the rise of niche sports leagues (联盟). They attract thousands of fans to watch their games, and their television viewers reach millions. Given how quickly sports followers warm up to the leagues, everyone seems to know about them, which brings up some questions — who are watching these games and what makes a niche sports fan?
According to a recent Global Web Index report on niche sports followers, a niche sports fan is a person who follows or watches at least five niche sports leagues or events. More than half of niche sports fans fall within the 25-44 age range. They are excited about the sports content shown on streaming media, and are more likely to pay for such services compared to the general population. And they present a higher likelihood of using many kinds of second screens in sports seasons, including laptops, smartwatches, and smartphones.
Pickleball (匹克球) is a great example of a niche sport that has developed from a relatively unknown activity to a US national passion. So, what will the next pickleball be? Managing Director Peter Cosco from Isos Growth Advisory, a sports investment company, said, “Technological advancement helps fans get involved in sports, but it doesn’t make it certain. Developing fan love for a new sport, especially a niche one, takes careful management of resources, a well thought-out plan, good relationships with the right people, and the ‘play’ factor. That is, is it fun to play and fun to watch?”
8. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. More people are aware of sports’ benefits.
B. Technology contributes to niche sports’ popularity.
C. Fans have a positive effect on sports development.
D. Sports platforms have made huge economic gains in recent years.
9. Why is the rise of niche sports leagues mentioned?
A. To explain why streaming media is not needed.
B. To prove they have the largest number of live viewers.
C. To lead to questions about niche sports viewers and fans.
D. To show they are more popular than major sports leagues.
10. What is a characteristic of niche sports fans?
A. They are from a fixed age group.
B. They are socially disconnected in daily life.
C. They are highly dependent on digital services.
D. They are willing to watch sports on single devices.
11. What does Peter Cosco think is necessary for the success of next Pickleball?
A. Technological development.
B. A lot of advertising through social media.
C. Strict rules and professional training for leagues.
D. Careful management and wide enjoyment.
B 9. C 10. C 11. D

根据第一段“The global use of streaming media has provided fans of niche sports (小众体育) with easy access to international sports programs, and for followers of traditional major sports, a way to get to know niche sports. The increase of viewership platforms in the digital age has enabled many fans to explore their favorite niche sports deeper, while others actively discover new sports to follow and enjoy. 【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Given how quickly sports followers warm up to the leagues, everyone seems to know about them, which brings up some questions — who are watching these games and what makes a niche sports fan?(考虑到体育爱好者们对这些联盟的接受速度如此之快,似乎人人都对它们有所了解,这也引出了一些问题——谁在观看这些赛事?什么样的人算是小众体育粉丝?)”可推知,提及小众体育联盟的兴起是为了引出关于小众体育观众和粉丝的疑问。故选C。
【10题详解】

【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中Peter Cosco所说的“Developing fan love for a new sport, especially a niche one, takes careful management of resources, a well thought-out plan, good relationships with the right people, and the ‘play’ factor. Many teachers believe doing quizzes (小测验) often helps students better understand classroom material. Crede, an associate professor of psychology, was doubtful that something as simple as a quiz could positively influence students’ learning performance. He decided to look deeper into the existing research to see if this idea was true. What he discovered truly surprised him.
Crede researched data from the studies before that examined 52 classes with almost 8,000 students, primarily college-level courses, to see if frequent (频繁的) quizzes improved the students’ study performance. Laboratory settings were kept out of the study because Crede wanted to observe whether similar studies from labs would apply to general classrooms.
Crede discovered that when students were quizzed over class materials at least once a week, they were likely to perform better on midterm and final exams compared to students who did not take quizzes. He also found that students who took frequent quizzes were less likely to fail the class, especially if they had difficulty in the course.
Students who are having the hardest time in a class seem to benefit (受益) the greatest from frequent quizzes. The other surprising thing was how much quizzes helped reduce failure in classes. The chances of passing a class went through the roof where teachers used this. In addition to quiz frequency, another thing that seemed to positively influence students’ performance was immediate response from teachers. Also, quizzes that required students to answer with written words were more beneficial to their understanding of class materials compared to questions with several choices.
Asking teachers to grade written quizzes daily or weekly may prevent some from carrying them out in their classes. Instead, it is recommended that teachers give online quizzes that can be graded by a course management system. Quizzes proved not big or valuable enough to be considered important in the study, including whether the tests were pop quizzes or planned, or if they were online or on paper.
12. Why did Crede start his research on quizzes?
A. He wanted to prove teachers’ idea about quizzes was right.
B. He doubted whether quizzes could help students learn better.
C. He was asked to study the influence of quizzes on teaching.
D. He found existing research on quizzes was not detailed.
13. What did Crede find about frequent quizzes?
A. They benefited only hard-working students.
B. They helped all students get higher scores.
C. They taught students to find suitable class material.
D. They helped students perform better on major exams.
14. What suggestion is made for teachers using quizzes?
A. Avoid written-answer questions.
B. Use online systems for quiz grading.
C. Give pop quizzes instead of planned ones.
D. Let students grade their own written quizzes.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Quizzes: The Secret to Better Grades
B. Final Exams: A Game Changer for Learning
C. Learning: Choose a Good Class Material
D. Grading Tools: A New Helper for Teachers
B 13. D 14. B 15. A

He decided to look deeper into the existing research to see if this idea was true.(心理学副教授Crede怀疑,像小测验这样简单的事情是否能对学生的学习表现产生积极影响。
根据第三段中的“Crede discovered that when students were quizzed over class materials at least once a week, they were likely to perform better on midterm and final exams compared to students who did not take quizzes.(Crede发现,当学生每周至少接受一次课堂内容小测验时,与不参加小测验的学生相比,他们在期中及期末考试中表现可能更好)”可知,频繁的小测验能帮助学生在主要考试中表现更出色。故选D项。

Paris is a perfect travel destination with its food, drinks, shop malls and sightseeing spots. But some people are worried about the high cost. ____16____
Forget the large international hotels in the centre. ____17____ There are many hotels just two blocks away from the main tourist attractions, which cost as little as US $35 a night each, including breakfast. The real surprise is living among French people and experiencing their life.
Seek out small, local cafes when you want a meal. They are at every street corner in the less fancy parts of town. ____18____ Many have prices as low as US $9 or US $10. Drinks with meals are more expensive but there are some reasonable alternatives (替代). House wine is good: perhaps a couple of dollars per glass. Coffee, thick and lovely, costs US $2.50 a cup. That totals less than $15 per person for dinner and drinks.
Getting around Paris is easy and inexpensive. ____19____ But when you start to tire, take the train. Subway tickets for anywhere across the city cost around a dollar a trip and even less if you buy a multiple-ticket book. The system is quick and efficient. All the maps and signposts are easy to understand.
The tickets to Paris’ attractions are not costly. Passes can be bought at major subway stations and elsewhere. The Louvre is a must to visit without doubt. ____20____ You can’t miss the street architecture, the surrounding atmosphere and the daily goings-on in Paris. More importantly, they cost nothing or little to explore and experience.
A. Instead, get off the main streets.
B. The breakfast features a local flavor.
C. Walking is the best way to feel the street-life.
D. Quality wine and tasty food are hard to buy at low prices.

根据空前“Paris is a perfect travel destination with its food, drinks, shop malls and sightseeing spots. But some people are worried about the high cost.(巴黎是一个完美的旅游目的地,有美食、美酒、购物中心和观光景点。但有些人担心费用高昂。)”可知,空前提出巴黎虽好,但花费高,下文给出具体省钱建议,E选项“Actually it is possible to have a good time without spending a lot. (实际上,不花很多钱也能玩得开心)”既回应了“高花费”的担忧,又引出下文的省钱方法,承上启下,符合语境。故选E项。
【17题详解】
根据空前“Forget the large international hotels in the centre.(忘记市中心的大型国际酒店吧。)” (相反,离开主干道)”与上文形成转折替代关系,并自然引出下文“There are many hotels just two blocks away from the main tourist attractions, which cost as little as US $35 a night each, including breakfast.(距离主要旅游景点仅两个街区的地方有很多酒店,每家每晚价格低至35美元,还包含早餐。)” 故选A项。

They are at every street corner in the less fancy parts of town.(当你想吃饭时,去找当地的小咖啡馆。 可知,空前说明可以去找当地小咖啡馆吃饭,空后“Many have prices as low as US $9 or US $10.(许多价格低至 9 或 10 美元)”提到许多价格低至9或10美元,故空处应具体说明如何在这些餐馆点餐消费,G选项“Choose from the fixed-price dinner menus posted outside these cafes.
根据空前“Getting around Paris is easy and inexpensive.(在巴黎出行既方便又便宜)”可知,空前说明在巴黎出行的情况,空后“But when you start to tire, take the train.(但当你开始累了,就坐火车。)”说明累了可以坐火车,故空处应说明另一种出行方式,C选项“Walking is the best way to feel the street-life. (步行是感受街头生活的最佳方式)”与空后形成转折关系,符合语境。故选C项。
【20题详解】
根据空前“The tickets to Paris’ attractions are not costly. Passes can be bought at major subway stations and elsewhere. The Louvre is a must to visit without doubts.(巴黎景点的门票并不贵。可以在主要地铁站和其他地方购买通票。卢浮宫无疑是一个必去之地。)”可知,空前说明巴黎景点门票不贵,且卢浮宫是必去之地,空处应举例说明其他景点,故F选项“The Eiffel Tower gives a great view of the city for less than US $10.
故填are attracted。
故填the。
be suitable for sb. 故填for。
故填is。
故填and。
故填to interest。

It was a Thursday, just like any other Thursday. But it has turned out to be one of the few special days since I entered high school.
It was the day of our school play. I had been chosen to act as a tree—a leafy tree in the background. It was not a magical tree that could dance or talk, but a usual tree whose only job was to move like the wind and, most importantly, not to get my foot caught on something and fall! Though it was only a small role, my parents still showed up to support me as audience (观众) members.
Everything was going smoothly ... until disaster hit! The girl who was supposed to play Princess Mirabella suddenly fell ill. Her nose turned as red as a tomato, and her voice disappeared. It seemed to be a worrying situation.
For a moment, everything stopped and we were wondering what was going to happen next. I was sitting quietly in a corner, when Ms Jasmine, our director, turned and looked straight at me. “Sophia, you’ll play the princess now. Since you’ve been to all the practices and know the lines (台词), you can do it,” she said.
My mouth fell open. I never expected the chance to play the leading role. I was so nervous that I wanted to change into a tiny insect and disappear into the stage floor. But then I saw the costume (戏装) —a bright pink dress and a sporty cardboard sword (纸板剑) that once attracted me. During the practices, I often imagined being the princess who could fight off the dragon and protect her homeland.
And somewhere deep inside, a small voice rose, “This will be my moment. This is my chance to step into the adventure I have pictured many times in my mind.” My courage began to grow, quieting the doubts inside me. Finally, I said yes. After an hour of practice, I learned my lines well. Taking a deep breath, I put on the dress and picked up the sword.
注意:(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
My heart was beating fast, but somehow my feet carried me onto the bright stage.

When the play ended, the cheers rolled over me like a warm wave.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
My heart was beating fast, but somehow my feet carried me onto the bright stage. The lights felt hot, and the audience seemed huge. However, when I spoke my first line, even though it sounded a little shaky, the audience cheered. Among them, I could see my parents’ surprised and proud faces. Filled with power, I took the sword and stepped forward, imagining I was truly Princess Mirabella. As I entered the story’s world, I forgot my fear. My voice grew stronger with each line, and my movements became more confident. And I could see Ms Jasmine nodding smilingly from the side.
When the play ended, the cheers rolled over me like a warm wave. It was a great success. For the first time, I felt like I belonged on that stage, not as a background character, but as an important role. Backstage, Ms Jasmine and the other actors gladly praised me for my amazing performance. My parents came to hug me proudly and congratulated me on my big moment. That day, I learned something important: being brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared; it means you step forward even when you are. From then on, I knew I could face any challenge in life determinedly.

4. What attracted the author when Marco showed his country on the map?
A. Its large size.
B. Its unique shape.
C. Its location in the sea.
D. Its famous landmarks.
5. How did Marco feel when he mentioned Calcio?
A Sad. B. Worried.
C. Proud. D. Thankful.
6. What can we know about the food in Marco’s country?
A. It is very simple.
B. It makes Marco feel bored.
C. It is influenced by foreign food.
D. It has spread around the world.
7. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To show a friendship.
B. To celebrate a festival.
C. To introduce a country.

So what will the next pickleball be?

B Use online systems for quiz grading.
C. Give pop quizzes instead of planned ones.
D. Let students grade their own written quizzes.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Quizzes: The Secret to Better Grades
B. Final Exams: A Game Changer for Learning
C. Learning: Choose a Good Class Material
D. Grading Tools: A New Helper for Teachers

注意:(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;

My heart was beating fast, but somehow my feet carried me onto the bright stage.
