Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest, be generous (慷慨的), be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If a friend finds out that you aren’t honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always ask one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes to your friends. Instead, you have to learn how to share things you enjoy. And naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. They tell your friends what is important to you. By sharing, your friends can know you better.
Everyone needs understanding when something goes wrong. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. So to be a friend, you must learn to listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are exactly the same. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
41. Why don’t some friendships last very long?
A. Because most of people are honest and generous.
B. Because too many people don’t give friendship back.
C. Because people don’t want to make friends with others.
42. According to the passage, being honest is ________.
A. all of a good friendship
B. the beginning of a good friendship
C. not as important as the other two rules
43. What does the underlined word “They” refer to (指的是) in the third paragraph?
A. Ideas and feelings. B. Your things. C. Lunch money.
44. Why does the writer write this passage?
A. To explain why some friendships end quickly.
B. To tell how to be a good friend with three rules.
C. To describe differences between friendships.
45. What’s the structure (结构) of the passage?
A. B. C.
D
In many people’s eyes, plants are quiet. They can’t talk. They can’t walk. And they can’t think like us. A new TV show gives us a new look at plants. It tells us the secret of plants and the wonderful ways that plants work.
Plants compete (竞争) against each other to live. In the rainforests (热带雨林), different kinds of plants compete for sunlight. The forest floor is described as a “battlefield”. Only two percent of the sunlight gets through it. Some plants spread (伸展) their big leaves to reach light. But other plants may catch them up and get a lift. Finally, they are both overtaken (被超过) by a fast-growing tree. Similarly, some trees may give out something to protect themselves.
Plants also help each other and even communicate. In deserts, if a tree finds water, it will share it with others. Studies show that plants use fungus (真菌) in the soil as a way to “talk” to each other. It’s kind of like how Wi-Fi works. If a tomato plant gets sick, it can tell nearby plants about it.
The TV show not only makes us marvel at the plant world but makes us to understand that plants are important. “Plants are the needs of all life, including ourselves. We depend on them for every mouth of food that we eat and every lungful of air that we breathe,” David, the director of the show said. “It’s time to look after wild plants just as carefully as our houseplants (室内植物).”
46. What does the new TV show about plants want to do?
A. To show plants are quiet and can’t think.
B. To explore plants’ secrets and working ways.
C. To explain how plants live in the rainforests.
47. In the rainforests, why do plants compete with each other?
A. To get more water and food.
B. To protect themselves from animals.
C. To reach enough sunlight.
48. How do plants “talk” to each other according to the passage?
A. By producing special sounds.
B. By using fungus in the soil.
C. By using Wi-Fi directly.
49. What does the underlined word “marvel” mean in Chinese?
A. 失意 B. 迷失 C. 惊叹
50. What is the best title (标题) for the passage?
A. An Amazing Plant World
B. Make Better Shows on Plants
C. Plant More Trees
(二)阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。

Every year, millions of birds are killed or hurt when they fly into buildings. Why does this happen? 51 Birds are flying into windows and tall buildings. They are all covered by glass.
Many birds fly from one place to another. Most of the time, they live in the wild, such as forests and wetlands. 52 They might see small trees and flowers inside a window and want to rest on these plants. The birds do not know there is glass between them and the plants. 53
Some birds fly at night. They use the moon and stars to help guide them in the right direction. Tall buildings with lights on at night can confuse (迷惑) the birds. 54 The birds see the light, but they cannot tell that the light is coming from inside a building. They fly toward the light and crash (撞击) into a building. On many mornings, there might be several dead birds lying on the ground.
55 Many office buildings now turn off their lights at night. This helps reduce the number of birds that fly into buildings and it also helps save energy.
A. The answer is glass.
B. People are trying to solve the problem.
C. These birds have no idea what glass is.

My grandpa is a 55-year-old man, and he loves gardening. Last Sunday, I visited his garden. It is a small but lively place and full of plants and small animals. As soon as we arrived, Grandpa pointed to the green plants and said, “Look, these are pea shoots. They will grow into peas soon.”
While we were walking around, I saw a frog jumping near the pond (池塘). “Don’t scare it,” Grandpa said. “Frogs eat insects that are bad for the plants. They are our little garden helpers.” I nodded and watched the frog. It looked so small and cute.
Then, Grandpa showed me his favorite thing in the garden: a ginkgo tree. “This tree is almost as old as I am,” he said with a smile. “When I was little, it was just a small shoot. Now it’s tall and provides shade for us.” I touched its leaves — they were fan-shaped and felt very smooth.
Later, we sat on a bench (长凳) under the ginkgo tree. Grandpa took out a folding fan made of bamboo and waved it gently. “Years ago, people used fans like this to keep cool,” he told me. I felt peaceful and comfortable sitting there with him.
Before we left, we planted a few lotus seeds in the pond. “They will grow and bloom into beautiful flowers this summer,” Grandpa said. “You see, taking care of plants is a small way of taking care of our planet. Every little action counts.”
I felt really happy that day. I not only had a wonderful time but also learned how plants and animals live together and support each other.
