例文
Ladies and gentlemen,
Traditional Chinese skills like fishing with cormorants, Shadow Play and Tea Ceremony are valuable heritage, but they are disappearing. It is important to protect them because they show our culture and history.
Here are two suggestions. Firstly, we can hold workshops to let people experience these skills. Secondly, schools should teach students about these traditions in classes.
Let’s work together to keep our traditions alive!
Thank you.

Discovering the Power of Placebos (安慰剂)
A little girl cries after falling and bumping her knee against the ground. Her father rushes over and looks closely at the leg. “I’ll kiss it and make it better,” he says. The kiss works. The girl sniffles (抽噎), then jumps up and gets back to playing. Her pain is 45 .
Things like this one happen on playgrounds and in homes around the world every day. When a child gets a bump or bruise (淤伤), says better Ulrike Bingel, “Someone will blow the pain away.” Bingel is a doctor at a Germany university.
A caring adult seems to have the ability to stop a child’s pain with a puff of air, a kiss or even just a few kind words. 46 , none of these things can repair injured skin. So what’s happening? Doctors call it the placebo effect. It describes what happens when something that should have no effect leads to a(n) 47 positive change in someone’s body.
Placebos are a very 48 part of medical research. To prove that a new medicine works, researchers must show that the people who are taking a new drug will be in much better health than those who are taking a placebo. This placebo is usually a pill and it 49 the same as the new medicine but contains no medicine. At times a person may feel better after taking a placebo pill though the pill did not act on any disease.
This placebo response isn’t an illusion (幻觉). It comes from the brain. A placebo effect can only influence body processes that the brain can change like a pain. “Placebos can’t fight cancer,” Bingel says. But they can change how 50 someone experiences pain or other illness.” Bingel and his team are working to better understand what brain processes make this happen.

C. Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words
Most of us spend our lives surrounded by screens, with which we manage our work, our recreation and our relationships. These devices offer us convenience as well as connection and a lot of information. H 51 , it’s also easy to feel pressured to keep up with every message. More and more people want to take a break from technology.
The phrase “digital detox” describes staying away from TV, phones, computers and other forms of technology that c 52 our lives for a period of time. These breaks can occur in a variety of ways. Some experts suggest completely avoiding u 53 screen time for 30 days. Others suggest using an app that will limit the amount of time one can spend on certain websites. A third option is logging out in evenings and/or on w 54 . Others simply turn their phones off. Some even pay high prices to take vacations in places where they can take time out from technology.
Why do you want to take a digital detox? Perhaps you find that you are spending longer than you plan on certain apps or that they distract you from more important things. Perhaps social media is depressing because you compare yourself to others or you f 55 missing out on things that other people are enjoying.
Technology can also have p 56 effects. Many people experience back or neck pain and the blue light coming from most screens can also affect people’s sleep.
On one research trip, a group of people agreed to spend four days w 57 their smartphones. By the time the phone-free period ended, many people in the group had made important decisions about their work or relationships. Others had decided to live a healthier lifestyle. Only when they took a break from technology could they think about really important things.
Giving up all screens may not be realistic, but strategic breaks from technology my be good for your body, mind, emotions and relationships.
D. Answer the questions
Taking Pictures or Taking Notes?
In a class last December, I wrote some directions on the blackboard for students about their final examination. One young girl quickly took a picture of the board using her smartphone. When I looked in her direction, she apologized, “Sorry. Was it wrong to take a picture?”
“I can’t read my own handwriting,” she explained. “It’s best if I take a picture of your writing so I can understand the notes.”
Those words started a heated discussion about taking a picture instead of taking notes. Some took pictures of notes because they knew their phones were a safe place to store material. They might lose paper, they thought, but they wouldn’t lose their phones. Some took photos because they wanted to record exactly what had been written on the blackboard. Others told me that during class, they would like to listen to the discussion attentively. Taking notes would distract them from important information.
It may be convenient to use cameras as note takers. Yet it does raise some questions about the classroom. Is a picture as effective a replacement for the process of note-taking?
Teachers encourage students to take notes because the act of doing so not only records necessary information but also helps prepare the way of understanding. Encouraging students to take notes seems to be an old-fashioned teaching method. But a method with a long history doesn’t mean it’s out of date. Writing things down makes a student’s brain take an active part in class, according to a study. The act of writing down information enables a person to begin keeping it in mind, and to process and combine it.
Taking a picture does record the information. However, taking a picture deletes some of the necessary brain activities like ________ and ________ that note-taking is rich in. So can the two be equally effective?
58.How did the young girl feel when the writer looked in her direction?
59.How many reasons did the students give for preferring to take pictures instead of notes in Para.3?
60.Why do the teachers encourage students to take notes?
61.What can prove taking notes isn’t out of date?
62.The writer isn’t in favour of taking notes in class, is she?
63.Complete the sentence:
However, taking a picture deletes some of the necessary brain activities like (≤ 5 words) and (≤ 5 words) that note-taking is rich in.

Grammar and vocabulary
I. Choose the best answer
1.Be careful, you missed ______ “r” in the word “preferred”.
A.a B.an C.the D./
2.I found ________ very easy to learn English well if you put your heart into it.
A.that B.it’s C.it D.this
that那个;it’s它是;it它;this这个。根据“I found…very easy to learn English well”可知,这里需要一个形式宾语来替代真正的宾语to learn English well,it符合语境,说明学好英语这件事的难易程度。故选C。
3.This test is rather difficult, and it is ________ the abilities of most of the class.
A.over B.beyond C.above D.within
over在…… 之上;within在……
4.Tony doesn't speak ________, but his written work is excellent.
A.as well as B.as often as C.well enough D.good enough
as well as和……一样好,此外;as often as每次,每当,经常;well enough足够好,well是副词;good enough足够好,good是形容词,由所给空前面的speak可知,应该填副词,排除D,由语境可知,应该是说得不够好,排除A和B,故选C。
5.We can get lots of benefits from WeChat. It makes our life ________ than before.
A.much easier B.more easily C.easy D.the most easily
【答案】A
more easily更容易地,副词比较级,最高级是the most easily;easy容易的,形容词,比较级是easier。根据“It makes our life...than before.” 故选A。
6.As it gose cooler, you had better ________ a coat over your sweater.
A.wearing B.wear C.to wear D.wears

7.Mr. Page still plans to take up a new hobby ________ he is almost 70 years old.
A.though B.because C.if D.while
【答案】A
though虽然、尽管;because因为;if如果;while当……时候。根据“Mr. Page still plans to take up a new hobby”,以及“he is almost 70 years old.”,可知前后句之间是让步关系,因此用though引导让步状语从句,故选A。
8.A lot of fish are often ________up on the tree in the countryside when Chinese New Year is coming.
A.are hanged B.are hanging C.is hanged D.are hung
are hanged被绞死;are hanging正在悬挂;is hanged被绞死;are hung被悬挂。
9.My aunt isn't here. She ________ Shanghai on business. She will be back in three days.
A.went B.has gone to C.Has been to D.Will go to
考查have been to与have gone to区别。went去,go的过去式;has gone to刚去(去了没回来);have been to去过(去了回来了);will go to将要去;由所给空前面的句子My aunt isn't here以及后面的句子She will be back in three days可知,应该是她刚去了上海,还没有回来,故选B。
10.Very soon a nursing home ________ in our neighbourhood for the elderly living alone.
A.has set up B.will set up C.has been set up D.will be set up
very soon不久,表示的是将来的时间,可知是用将来时态,a nursing home和set up之间是被动关系,所以用被动语态;has set up现在完成时态的结构,will set up一般将来时态的结构,has been set up现在完成时态的被动语态,will be set up一般将来时态的被动语态;故选D。
I am asked to study hard by my mother. A new shop was built last year. 3) 现在完成时态的被动语态的结构是have/has been+done 例如:This book has been translated into Chiese. Many trees will be planted next year. 5)现在进行时态的被动语态的结构是am/is/are+being+done, 例如:My bike is being repaired by Tom now。
11.Tracy suggested ________ to the countryside to breathe fresh air at weekends.
A.to drive B.driving C.drive D.drives
12.A: Have you decided ________ the children in the poor area?
B: By sending them books and schoolbags.
A.how you will help B.how will you help C.how you would help D.how would you help
【答案】A
13.一Doctor, it is too hard for me to give up smoking.
一For your own health, I’m afraid you __________.
A.must B.can C.need D.may
【答案】A
A. must必须;B. can可以,可能;C. need需要;D. may可能,也许。 故选A。
【点睛】情态助动词包括will(would)shall(should)can(could)may(might)must, need, dare, ought to,used to,had better后接原形不定词。 (误)He will can finish it in time. (正)He will be able to finish it in time.
14.________ important advice you’ve given me! It helps me arrange the time better.
A.What B.What a C.What an D.How
【答案】A
根据“... important advice you’ve given me!” 故选A。
15.A: Would you like me to help you with the heavy box?
B: ________
A.Yes, I like it very much. B.I don’t think so. C.No, thanks. I’m OK. D.I’d love to do you a favor.
Yes, I like it very much我非常喜欢;I don’t think so我不这么认为;No, thanks. I’d love to do you a favor我愿意帮你一个忙。

51. 空前“These devices offer us convenience as well as connection and a lot of information. ”与空后“it’s also easy to feel pressured to keep up with every message.”
根据上文“it’s also easy to feel pressured to keep up with every message. More and more people want to take a break from technology.”

58.She felt sorry/apologetic. 59.Three. 60.Because the act of doing so not only records necessary information but also helps prepare the way of understanding. 61.A study shows that writing things down makes a student’s brain take an active part in class. 62.Yes, she is. 63. keeping information in mind (开放性试题,言之有理即可) processing information (开放性试题,言之有理即可)
58.根据第一段“When I looked in her direction, she apologized, ‘Sorry.’” She felt sorry/apologetic.
59.根据第三段“Some took pictures of notes because they knew their phones were a safe place to store material… Some took photos because they wanted to record exactly... Taking notes would distract them from important information.” 故填Three.
60.根据第五段“Teachers encourage students to take notes because the act of doing so not only records necessary information but also helps prepare the way of understanding.” Because the act of doing so not only records necessary information but also helps prepare the way of understanding.
61.根据第五段“But a method with a long history doesn’t mean it’s out of date. Writing things down makes a student’s brain take an active part in class, according to a study.” A study shows that writing things down makes a student’s brain take an active part in class.
Yes, she is.
63.第五段提到记笔记的大脑活动包括“begin keeping it in mind, and to process and combine it”,强调记笔记能激活大脑的“主动参与”。 参考答案为:keeping information in mind;processing information。
