Have you heard of Bermuda Triangle (百慕大三角)? For years, people have believed that an area of the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Florida, the US was a dangerous place. They thought planes and boats passing through here were likely to disappear.
In 1945, five US Navy planes, called Flight 19, took off from Florida and never came back. After they disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle, different ideas had begun to circulate.
However, scientists believe that weather is part of the problem. Unusually shaped clouds above the area create strong winds that go down into the water, creating huge tsunami (海啸) waves that can take down boats or low-flying planes. And many researchers believe that there’s no mystery at all. Ships go down and plane accidents happen all over the world. It just seems to happen more in the Bermuda Triangle because there’s more traffic.
The Bermuda Triangle is also one of the deepest areas of the Atlantic, with some areas being 8 km deep. So, remains are hard to find, which makes the disappearances seem even more mysterious.
In 2011, the Flight 19 planes were found, showing that they didn’t completely disappear. But no matter how much evidence (证据) there is, the Bermuda Triangle is much more dangerous than any other part of the ocean.
29. The writer starts this passage by _______.
A. using a saying B. asking a question C. listing a fact D. telling a story
30. The underlined word “circulate” in Paragraph 2 means “_______”.

A. Because the remains completely disappeared. B. Because the Bermuda Triangle is too deep.
C. Because the water runs too quickly. D. Because there are dangerous animals.
32. What is the writer’s purpose of writing this passage?
A. To encourage readers to visit the Bermuda Triangle.
B. To tell readers the story of Flight 19 planes.
C. To introduce the mysterious Bermuda Triangle to readers.
D. To show readers how to pass the Bermuda Triangle safely.

Getting around in a strange place can be challenging, especially if you don’t speak the local language, so learning some common expressions for public transportation can make your travels much easier.
At train or bus stations, you’ll see two main areas: Departures and Arrivals. The departures board shows where trains and buses leave, while the arrivals board tells people where they arrive. So, if you want to go somewhere from a station, first find the departures board to know where your bus or train will leave. Or, you can simply ask, “Excuse me, where is the train leaving?” to find your train.
To buy a ticket, you can ask the station staff, “Could I have a ticket to...?” Many stations also have ticket machines, or you can just buy tickets online.
In English-speaking countries, the underground train has different names. In some cities including London, you’ll find it’s called the tube, while in others it can be the subway (in America), the underground, or the metro.
In English, buses mean the bus services, while coaches mean those buses traveling much longer distances (距离). If you want to travel from city to city, you should take coaches instead of buses.
When you need help, start with “Excuse me” to ask politely. A more formal (正式的) way to say the same thing is “Pardon me”, but it doesn’t get used as much as “Excuse me” in everyday life. These simple phrases will make using public transportation less stressful.
33. What does the departures board show?
A. It shows where trains and buses arrive.
B. It shows where trains and buses leave.
C. It shows the price of tickets.
D. It shows the seat number of each passenger.
34. If the ticket office isn’t open at a station, which expression can help you best?
A. “Excuse me, could you show me how to use the ticket machine?”
B. “Pardon me, where is the train leaving?”
C. “Hey, buy a ticket to Boston for me!”
D. “Could I have a ticket to Boston?”
35. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The underground train is called “subway” both in London and America.
B. In English-speaking countries, you can’t buy train tickets online.
C. Coaches are the buses traveling much longer distances.
D. “Excuse me” is more formal than “Pardon me”, so it is used more often.

Emma’s science notes
How I Understood Photosynthesis (光合作用)
Steps
Thinking
Step 1: Choose a point and break it down
I chose photosynthesis as the main point. Then I broke it into some smaller parts, such as why plants need sunlight and the role of water and CO2.
This step is really necessary because it helps me get a deeper understanding of the knowledge point.
Step 2: Explain like teaching a 6th Grader
I tried to teach in a kid-friendly way: Plants are like cooks! They use sunlight as heat, take in water from the soil, and get CO2 from the air. Then they mix all these things in their “green kitchens” (their leaves) to make food called glucose (葡萄糖). After that, they give off O2.
This is the heart of the Feynman Technique. It requires me to help kids understand by using the simplest and clearest language.
Step 3: Review the explanation
I realized I couldn’t explain why plants are green simply. So I asked my little brother—he said green is like plants’ special coat!
My brother’s young-kid view showed me a fun way to explain!
Step 4: ▲
Using my brother’s fun idea, I improved my explanation: Plants have a friend called chlorophyll (叶绿素). It drinks sunlight! Green color? It’s his special coat for turning sunlight into growing energy!
This worked like magic! My brother could repeat the main idea—he truly got it.
51. How many steps are there in Emma’s science notes?
There are ________ steps in Emma’s science notes.
52. Why does Emma think the first step is necessary?
Because it helps her ________ .
53. What does the underlined word “They” refer to?

The Feynman Technique (费曼学习法) is a way of learning by teaching someone else. A student named Emma used it to learn science—and it worked!

【答案】例文
My Family Rules
There are a lot of rules in my family. For example, I can only use phones after finishing homework, and I’m not allowed to stay out late on weekends.
The rule I dislike most is the phone restriction. I think phones can help me search for information and check unfamiliar words when I study. It’s a useful tool to learn knowledge points effectively.
I hope this rule can be changed: I can use the phone while doing homework, but I need to show my parents how I use it. This way, they’ll trust me, and I can study more efficiently.
