How to Keep a Strong Friendship
Making friends is wonderful, but keeping a strong friendship takes work. Here are some tips to help your friendship grow:Be honest
True friends tell each other the truth, even when it’s hard. If your friend does something wrong, talk to them gently. For example: “I felt hurt when you forgot our plan. Can we try to remember next time?” Honesty builds trust. Listen carefully
When your friend talks, put down your phone and listen. Ask questions: “How did that make you feel?” This shows you care. Everyone wants to feel heard. Support each other
Celebrate your friend’s success: “I’m so proud of you for winning the prize!” When they’re sad, say: “I’m here if you want to talk.” Small words of support mean a lot. Spend quality time
It’s not about how much time you spend together, but how you spend it. Have a picnic, watch a movie, or just chat. Doing simple things together helps you stay close. Forgive mistakes
No one is perfect. If your friend makes a mistake, try to forgive them. Holding onto anger can hurt your friendship. Remember: friendship is more important than being “right”. Friendship is like a plant—it needs care to grow. Try these tips, and your friendship will stay strong for years.

Everyone has a name, and each one is like a tiny “storybook” page. It shows something about us: where we’re from, or what our parents hope for us. Let’s look at the names of two friends: Sophia and Zhang Wei.
Sophia is a 10-year-old girl from Australia. Her full name is Sophia Miller. In Australia, just like in many Western countries, people’s first name comes before their family name. Sophia is her first name. It comes from Greek and means “wisdom (智慧)”. It shows her parents’ wish for her. They want her to be a smart person when she grows up. Her family name, Miller, comes after her first name. Sophia says her classmates usually call her first name, and it makes her feel close to them.
Zhang Wei is an 11-year-old boy from China. His full name is Zhang Wei. In China, the family name always comes first, so “Zhang” is his family name, and “Wei” is his given name or first name. All people with the same family name are like one big family. Chinese people put their family name first because they think the family is very important, and it is a way to show respect (尊敬) for their family. His given name “Wei” has a special meaning too: it can mean “great” or “outstanding (杰出的)”. It shows his parents’ wish for him to become an outstanding person when he grows up.
We can see that names are like little books. We can learn a lot about different cultures (文化) and people’s hopes from these names.
29.What do we know about Sophia?
A.She is 11 years old from Australia. B.Her family name comes from Greek.
C.Her classmates usually call her “Miller”. D.Her first name comes before her family name.
30.According to (根据) Paragraph 3, what do Chinese names show?
A.The family is important for Chinese people.
B.The family thinks of names from their hobbies.
C.People with the same first name are like a big family.
D.People with the same family name are kind to each other.
31.What is the wish of Zhang Wei’s parents for him?
A.To be happy. B.To be smart. C.To be great. D.To be strong.
32.What’s the best title of the text?
A.What names tell us. B.Where names come from.
C.How people get good names. D.Why people have family names.

Whether you’re preparing for an exam or trying to learn a new musical instrument or even trying to perfect a new sport, sleep may secretly help improve your memory.
Studies have actually told us that sleep is important for memory in at least three different ways. We know that you need sleep before learning to actually get your brain ready, almost like a dry sponge (海绵), ready to take in new information. And without sleep, the brain becomes “waterlogged” and can’t take in new information or create new memories properly. It’s not just important that you sleep before learning, you also need to sleep after learning to hit the save button on those new memories so that you don’t forget.
In fact, sleep helps protect and strengthen memories, cementing them into the brain’s neural networks (神经网络). Scientists are starting to understand how sleep helps with this process.
The first mechanism (机制) is a file-transfer (文件传输) process. And here, we can speak about two different structures within the brain. The first is called the hippocampus and it sits on the left and the right side of your brain. And you can think of the hippocampus almost like the informational inbox of your brain. It’s very good at receiving new memory files and holding onto them. The second structure that we can speak about is called the frontal cortex. It sits on top of your brain. And during deep sleep, there is this file-transfer mechanism. Think of the hippocampus like a USB stick and your cortex like the hard drive. And during the day, we’re going around and we’re collecting lots of files, but then during deep sleep at night, because of that limited storage ability, we have to transfer those files from the hippocampus over to the hard drive of the brain, the cortex. And that’s exactly one of the mechanisms that deep sleep seems to provide.
Scientists have discovered another mechanism that helps store those memories into the brain, called replay. In an experiment, they studied how rats learned to run around a maze (迷宫) by recording brain activity. As the rats ran through the maze, their brain cells reacted to different parts of the maze, creating a “memory signature” (记忆特征). Interestingly, when the rats fell asleep, their brains replayed this memory signature. However, during sleep, the replay happened almost 10 times faster than when the rats were awake. This process is thought to help strengthen and store the memory. This seems to be the second way in which sleep can actually strengthen memories.
The final way in which sleep is beneficial for memory is connection and organization. In fact, we’re now learning that sleep is much more powerful than we ever imagined. Sleep doesn’t just simply strengthen individual memories, sleep will actually cleverly interconnect new memories together. As a result, you wake up with a refreshed network of connections in your mind, allowing you to solve problems that seemed impossible before.
And this is probably the reason that you’ve never been told to stay awake on a problem. Instead, you’re told to sleep on a problem, and that’s exactly what the science teaches us.
33.How can we make the most of sleep to improve learning?
A.By emptying the brain right after learning.
B.By sleeping for at least eight hours every day.
C.By taking in more information before sleeping.
D.By getting enough sleep before and after learning.
34.What does the word “cementing” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A.Breaking. B.Storing. C.Changing. D.Shaping.
35.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The file-transfer mechanism works during the day.
B.The hippocampus interconnects memories together.
C.The cortex is where memories go during deep sleep.
D.The brain replays everything we notice when awake.
36.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The importance of enough sleep.
B.The science behind a sound sleep.
C.How sleep can strengthen our memories.
D.What we can do to improve our memories.

Knowing what makes us happy and what we’re good at can make us feel strong and confident (自信的). Doing things like playing outside and eating healthy food, if you really want to, helps a lot too. The key is to feel good about ourselves. If we love ourselves, we’re more likely (可能的) to make friends and be happy.
Sometimes, the pictures we see show (表明) only one idea of what’s beautiful. But there are also companies, like Dove, that want to show real people are beautiful too. They use real women of different body sizes, skin colours and ages in their advertisements to tell us that everyone is beautiful in their own way.

Some people say life is like crossing a river. 41
I think our life is much like climbing a mountain. Each year we have a new mountain to climb. To reach the goals (目标), we work hard to make progress day after day. 42 We can choose to complain about how unfair (不公平) it is to climb a new mountain every year. Or we can just make ourselves busy.
Sometimes, we fall over. Here we also have another choice. 43 Or, we can get back on our feet and begin climbing that mountain again.
If we reach the goal for this year, we start from zero to reach the goal for next year. We shouldn’t spend the rest of our lives looking back at where we used to be. 44
Many people will waste time worrying. “Can I reach my final goal?” or “Is it worth doing?” 45 The question is, “Can I take the next step in the right direction?”
Take one step at a time, and pay attention to tomorrow’s step today.

Scientists are now 51 (try) to make robots look like humans and do the same things 52 we do. Some robots in Japan can walk and dance. They are fun to watch. However, some scientists believe that although we can make robots move like people, it will be difficult to make 53 (they) really think like a human. For example, scientist James White 54 (think) that robots will never be able to wake up and know where they are. But many scientists disagree with Mr. White. They think that robots will even be able to talk like humans 55 25-50 years.

Sometimes, we see many pictures of young, tall, and very thin women on TV and in magazines. There are many articles telling people how to lose weight (减肥). It seems like becoming thinner can help people find true happiness.
But looking at those pictures can sometimes make us feel sad or want to eat in a way that’s not good for us. The good news is we don’t have to change how we look to be happy. What matters (要紧) is how we see ourselves and what we think about our own bodies.
So, remember, you don’t have to be like the people in the pictures to be happy. You’re already amazing just the way you are!
37.Why looking at pictures of thin women may make people feel sad?

38.What are the two things that can help people feel strong and better?

Sometimes, we fall over. Here we also have another choice. 43 Or, we can get back on our feet and begin climbing that mountain again.
If we reach the goal for this year, we start from zero to reach the goal for next year. We shouldn’t spend the rest of our lives looking back at where we used to be. 44
Many people will waste time worrying. “Can I reach my final goal?” or “Is it worth doing?” 45 The question is, “Can I take the next step in the right direction?”
