An encyclopedia is a set of books or a website that has information on many different topics. The words inside are usually put in ABC order. Because there is so much information, it is often divided into many books, called volumes. Using an encyclopedia is a good first step when you need to learn about something for school.
Here are some simple steps to use one:
Choose Your Topic

Look for Your Topic
If you are using a book, look at the words on the side of the book to find the right one. For example, if your topic is “The Giant Panda,” you should look for the book with words starting with “G”. On a website, you can type the word “panda” into a small search box.
Read and Learn
Once you find your topic, read the information carefully. The article will give you the most important facts. It can also give you new ideas for other things to learn about. For example, when reading about pandas, you might also learn about bamboo forests.

一、语言知识及运用(共四节,满分29分)
第一节 语音知识(共2小节,满分4分)
(一)句子重读(每个单词1分,满分2分)
1. 朗读以下对话,在第二个句子中需要重读的两个单词下划线(共划两个,所划单词超过两个不得分)。
Sue Mei: What do you think of the movable type?
Sue Wen: It is a great invention.
【答案】It is a great invention.
【解析】
【详解】句意:苏梅:你觉得活字印刷术怎么样? 苏文:它是一项伟大的发明。在英语对话中,重读通常用于强调关键信息或表达情感,苏文的回答“It is a great invention.”中,“great”是描述“invention”的核心形容词,突出活字印刷术的重要性;“invention”是句子的表语核心名词,点明讨论的对象;这两个词是传递语义重点的关键,需重读。故填It is a great invention.
(二)语调标注与意群划分(语调标注共两处,每处0.5分;意群划分共两处,每处0.5分,满分2分)
2. 朗读以下小段落,在第一句的句中及句尾处用“↗”标出升调或“↘”标出降调,共标注两处;在第二句中用斜线“/”划分意群,共划分两处。
Look at the numbers, and can you see any pattern? As we can see, the numbers in it grow quickly.
【答案】Look at the numbers,↗and can you see any pattern?↘ As we can see,/ the numbers in it/ grow quickly.
Look at the numbers,↗and can you see any pattern?↘。“As we can see,”为从句部分,表示观点引入或视觉/认知上的前提,在句中作状语,与主句内容相对独立,因此可划分为第一个意群;the numbers in it”是主句的主语部分(主语 + 后置修饰语),中心词“numbers”由介词短语“in it”修饰,共同构成一个完整的名词性意群; “grow quickly”是主句的谓语部分(动词 + 副词),表达主语的行为或状态,划分为一个意群。故第二句填As we can see,/ the numbers in it/ grow quickly. 故填Look at the numbers,↗and can you see any pattern?↘ As we can see,/ the numbers in it/ grow quickly.

First, decide what you want to learn about. It is okay to start with a big idea. For example, you might want to learn about “Chinese History.” Later, you can choose a smaller part of that topic, like “The Great Wall” or “The First Emperor.”
Remember, encyclopedias are great for getting basic facts quickly. They help you start your learning journey!
28 What should you do first when using an encyclopedia?
A. Find the smaller part of a topic. B. Choose a topic you want to know.
C. Ask a library worker for help. D. Look for words in ABC order.
29. What do the underlined words “that topic” refer to?
A. The Giant Panda. B. The Great Wall. C. Chinese History. D. The First Emperor.
30. If you want to find more information about “Yuan Longping”, in which volume of the encyclopedia should you look?
