The Smart Borrowing System (系统) (SBS) in our school library has been running for two months. It was introduced to solve the long waiting lines during lunch breaks and after school, and to help students find books more easily. Here’s how it works and what benefits it brings.
First, registering for SBS is simple. You just need to scan your student ID at the service desk and set a 4-digit password. Once registered, you can use either the SBS machines in the library or the school’s WeChat mini-program to borrow books. The mini-program is even more convenient: search for the book by title or writer, reserve it if it’s out, and borrow it directly when you pick it up.
Second, SBS helps manage books better. Each book has a tiny RFID chip inside. The system tracks where every book is, so librarians no longer need to check shelves one by one. If you forget to return a book, the system sends a reminder to your school email three days before the due date. Last month, the number of late returns dropped by 65%compared to last year.
Some students worried SBS would be hard to use, but feedback shows it’s popular. “I used to spend 20 minutes looking for history books. Now I reserve them on my phone and get them in 2 minutes.” said Li Hua, a Grade 9 student. The librarians also like it. “We can focus on helping students instead of checking out books repeatedly.” noted Ms. Wang.
However, SBS has rules too. You can borrow up to 4 books at a time, and keep them for 30 days. If you lose a book, you need to pay for it before borrowing more. Also, food and drinks are still not allowed near the SBS machines—they might damage the equipment.
11. Why was the Smart Borrowing System introduced?
A. To help the old library staff. B. To solve waiting line problems.
C. To sell more books to students. D. To teach students computer skills.
12. What does the underlined word “reserve” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. To repair something broken. B. To return something borrowed.
C. To buy something new. D. To keep something for later use.
13. How does the writer support the idea that SBS manages books better?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking a question.
C. By giving a number. D. By comparing two libraries.
14. What can we infer (推断) about Li Hua?
A. He works hard in the school library. B. He often forgets to return books to school.
C. He finds SBS convenient for studying. D. He helped improve the WeChat mini-program.
15. What is the passage mainly about?
A. A new system making library use easier.
B. Rules for borrowing books from the library.
C. The importance of reading in middle school.
D. The way of using the school library properly.

In today’s world, we spend a lot of time online—whether chatting with friends after school, sharing daily photos with family, watching short videos during breaks, or playing games on weekends. But have you ever thought about what happens to all the information we leave on the Internet? This is called our “digital footprint”.
Every time you visit a website, post on social media, sign up for a free online tool, or even just search for something, you are adding to your digital footprint. This information is often collected by companies. They study your interests and use it to show you advertisements (广告) for products you might be interested in. For example, if you often search for basketball shoes, you will probably see more advertisements about sports products like socks or water bottles too.
Your digital footprint can also make a difference to your future in important ways. More and more colleges and companies are looking at applicants’ (申请者) online activities before making decisions. A positive (有益的) digital footprint-such as great art projects, volunteer experience shares or well-written articles you’ve shared-can be helpful. However, a negative footprint, like unkind comments or improper photos, could cause you to lose a good chance. So, how can we manage our digital footprint wisely? First, think carefully before you post. Ask yourself, “Would I be okay if my teacher, parents or my future boss sees this?” If the answer is no, don’t post it. Second, check your personal information regularly. Make sure you know who can see it. Finally, create a positive footprint! Use the Internet to learn new skills, share your achievements, and be kind to others online.
The Internet is a powerful tool. By being careful about our digital footprint, we can make sure it helps us instead of hurting us in the future.
16. What is a “digital footprint”?
A. A new kind of social media. B. The information you leave online.
C. The shape of your foot on a computer. D. The number of steps you walk in a day.
17. How do companies use our digital footprints?
A. To help us make new friends. B. To teach us how to use the Internet safely.
C. To improve our reading skills. D. To show us advertisements we might like.
18 A good digital footprint might help you according to Paragraph 3.
A. play more online games. B. hide your personal information.
C. get into a good college. D. spend less time on homework.
19. What does the writer suggest we do before sharing something online?
A. Ask your friends to give advice. B. Make sure it is the most popular topic.
C Translate it into another language. D. Think about who might see it in the future.
20. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To introduce the latest Internet technology.
B. To explain the dangers of all digital activities.
C. To tell you to watch what you do online.
D. To encourage students to spend more time online.

18. A good digital footprint might help you according to Paragraph 3.
A. play more online games. B. hide your personal information.
C. get into a good college. D. spend less time on homework.
19. What does the writer suggest we do before sharing something online?
A. Ask your friends to give advice. B. Make sure it is the most popular topic.
C. Translate it into another language. D. Think about who might see it in the future.
20. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To introduce the latest Internet technology.
B. To explain the dangers of all digital activities.
C. To tell you to watch what you do online.
D. To encourage students to spend more time online.
【答案】16. B 17. D 18. C 19. D 20. C
