三、阅读理解

If you want to watch and know something about birds, you can find a good place near the bird’s nest to watch. But remember to keep a safe distance and not to disturb (打扰) them.
Birds are usually busy sitting on eggs and taking care of their babies from April to June. Baby birds are too young to leave the nest, so their parents often fly out to look for food and come back quickly. This is a great time to watch birds. When we watch birds, we’d better hide ourselves quietly. And it’s better to use binoculars to help.
Sometimes, birds’ nests are broken for different reasons like natural disasters or the death of parent birds. Then people can help to make a bird’s nest. But how to do that? A good bird’s nest must be very strong, thick and comfortable. If you want to make one, please follow these tips:
1. Dig a small hole in the front of the nest as a “door”. The “door” should be big enough so the birds can fly in or out easily.
2. Choose the materials carefully. Make sure the rainwater can’t go into the nest.
3. Don’t forget to colour the nest. Choose colours like green and brown to help it hide in the natural environment.
( ) 26. In order to watch birds well, we’d better ______.
A. take good care of them B. take the binoculars
C. bring some food to feed them D. climb up the trees
( ) 27. What should we do if we want to make a bird’s nest?
A. Make the “door” as big as possible.
B. Use any materials we can find.
C. Make sure the nest can keep out the rain.
D. Paint the nest bright red to make it pretty.
( ) 28. What can we infer from the passage?
A. People should always build birds’ nests for birds.
B. Birds don’t need protection except from April to June.
C. Birdwatching requires respect for birds’ living habits.
D. Binoculars are necessary for every birdwatching activity.
B
As we all know, climate change has great influence on the birds’ living environment. Take Poyang Lake as an example. As an important habitat for many seriously endangered birds, the water level of Poyang Lake has experienced unusual rises and falls in recent years.
“In some years, the lake experienced floods, while in others it experienced a shortage of rain. Both of these situations led to less food in the birds’ habitat,” Qian Fawen, a leader of the National Bird Centre of China, said.
To solve such habitat problems, China has named 1,140 places these years as important living and wintering spots in wetlands. To protect the wetlands, a law was made in 2022 to control human activities. According to the law, people can’t overuse the wetlands. What’s more, they can’t pour waste water into the wetlands.
As these methods work well, more birds are seen wintering in wetlands in China. In February, Hunan Province reported that 72 kinds of waterbirds spent the past winter at Dongting Lake, and that the number of one endangered kind of bird increased from 300 in the 1980s to more than 5,000. All of these cases show a better future.
( ) 29. How does the writer begin the passage?
A. By asking and answering questions.
B. By listing numbers and giving ideas.
C. By comparing two different ideas.
D. By giving a fact and an example.
( ) 30. What does the underlined word “shortage” mean?
A. 缺少 B. 充足 C. 跌落 D. 获得
( ) 31. What does the writer think of the future of wetlands protection?
A. Interested. B. Worried. C. Surprised. D. Hopeful.
C
Rainforests provide much of the world’s oxygen. People have been trying to protect them for years. But few people know about another type of forest, the cloud forest. It is just as important to humans.
These wet wooded cloud forests are on top of mountains, mainly in the tropics (热带地区) of African and Central and South American countries. They are called cloud forests because their height leads to the formation (形成) of clouds among the trees. The water in the clouds gathers on the leaves and then falls into small rivers below, which flow into towns at the bottom of the mountains. Cloud forests can absorb (吸收) about sixty percent of the yearly rainfall in their areas. The water is important to the plants and people there.
Cloud forests are also home to plants that can’t be found anywhere else. In fact, there are so many plants that scientists haven’t made a complete list of them yet.
Cloud forests are being destroyed at an increasing speed. Trees are being cut down and roads are being built in their places. Some people try to plant new trees to save the forests but that’s difficult. Because the plants there are so special. There’s plenty of work to be done, but saving the cloud forests is still possible with creative solutions.
( ) 32. Where can you probably find cloud forests?
A. In Antarctica. B. Far from the equator (赤道).
C. In an African country. D. At the foot of mountains.
( ) 33. How much rainfall can be taken by the cloud forests in their areas every year?
A. About 40%. B. About 50%.
C. About 60%. D. About 70%.
( ) 34. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Cloud forests are short of plants.
B. Scientists are working on a list.
C. Cloud forests are getting smaller.
D. Cloud forests house many plants.
( ) 35. What will be talked about in the next part of the passage?
A. Ways to protect cloud forests.
B. Goals of cloud forests protectors.
C. Difficulties in planting new trees.
D. Success in getting wide support.

六、阅读与回答问题
Eight years ago, a one-week-old *milu* named Diandian was found near a lake, which looked too weak to survive. But now, she is the mother of three baby *milu*, thanks to the care at the East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve.
On March 18 this year, Diandian gave birth to her youngest baby, named Sansan, meaning “three-three”, as it is her third baby and was born in the third month of the year. Li, the president of a *milu* conservation association in Yueyang, took good care of Diandian and her baby. “As our country is paying more attention to environmental and wildlife protection, more people are aware that *milu* are state-protected animals,” Li said.
*Milu* habitats, which are usually centred around water, are now free of fishing tools that once threatened (威胁) them. On May 27, a team of experts watched *milu* near Dongting Lake. It takes time and luck to meet and count them, especially when they live in the thick reeds (芦苇) that are 4 to 5 metres tall. The team leader, Song, first saw a *milu* when he was a student in 2009. Since then, he has helped protect the habitats at Dongting Lake. As the flood season is coming, Song and his team will go around the lake area day and night to save *milu* in trouble and provide feeding when needed.
With the improving environment around Dongting Lake, China’s second-largest freshwater lake, the wetland has become the cover for wildlife again. “We will continue to protect these rare animals and their habitats,” Song said.

How to protect rainforests
Rainforests are very important to us. We should take action to protect them.
First, tell more people the importance of rainforests. We can do this online through social media or take part in local community activities.
Second, save resources taken from rainforests in daily life. We can use both sides of paper and send e-cards instead of paper cards. Also, we'd better not use single-use chopsticks.
Third, be careful when visiting rainforests. Remember not to pick flowers or fruits during the trip. Don't buy things like tiger's fur. They harm the rainforests and animals in it a lot.
