Have you ever shouted in an empty valley and heard your voice come back to you? This is called an echo. Sound travels in waves, and when these waves hit a hard surface like a mountain, they bounce back to you.
But did you know there is a similar “echo” happening online? It’s called the echo chamber effect. In online worlds, especially on social media, an echo chamber is an environment where a person only meets information or opinions that reflect and reinforce their own. Imagine you are in a room where everyone agrees with you and only says things you like to hear. After a while, you might think that this is the only way to see the world.
How does this happen? Apps and websites use special algorithms. These algorithms watch what you like, share, and spend time on. Then, they keep showing you more of the same kind of content. If you often watch videos about basketball, your feed will be full of sports news and game highlights. This can be helpful. But if you only read news from one side, you might never see other important opinions or facts.
Echo chambers can make it difficult for people to understand others who have different ideas. This can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or arguments.
So, what can we do? To “break” the echo chamber, we can try to get information from different sources, listen to people with different opinions, and think critically about what we see online. Just like a smart detective, we should look for all clues before deciding what is true.
31. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To explain how sound waves work in detail.
B. To introduce the topic of echo as a natural phenomenon.
C. To encourage readers to go to a valley and shout.
D. To compare a valley with social media.
32. According to the passage, what is an “online echo chamber”?
A. A room where your voice echoes.
B. A place where you can watch echo-related videos.
C. An online environment where you only find ideas you agree with.
D. A chat room for people who love music.
33. The word “algorithms” in Paragraph 3 most probably means ________.
A. a set of rules used by computers to solve problems and make decisions
B. a kind of video game popular online
C. a special effect for making sounds
D. a group of people who manage social media
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Echo chambers help people understand different opinions.
B. Social media algorithms are designed to show you diverse views.
C. Echo chambers can sometimes make people less open to other ideas.
D. It is impossible to avoid echo chambers online.
35. What is the writer’s suggestion for dealing with echo chambers?
A. Stop using the internet and social media.
B. Only believe the information from the first source you find.
C. Act like a detective and get information from various places.
D. Ask the algorithms to show you more different content.
【答案】31. B 32. C 33. A 34. C 35. C

【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据“Echo chambers can make it difficult for people to understand others who have different ideas. This can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or arguments.”

Every afternoon after school, Grandma Li sits by the window in her small house in a village in Shandong. She takes out a piece of red paper and her special scissors. In just a few minutes, she can turn the paper into a beautiful flower, a lively fish, or the Chinese character “福” (meaning good fortune). This is the art of Chinese paper cutting, a tradition that has been passed down in her family for generations.
Paper cutting requires great patience and skill. The paper, usually bright red which symbolizes luck and happiness in Chinese culture, is folded several times. Then, with quick and precise cuts, Grandma Li creates amazing patterns. Some are simple, and some are very complex, telling stories from ancient times.
However, this traditional art is facing challenges. Fewer young people are willing to learn it because it takes a long time to master and doesn’t earn much money. Machines can now produce paper-cuts quickly and cheaply. But Grandma Li doesn’t mind. She still holds free classes every weekend for the children in the village. “I want them to know and feel the beauty made by hands,” she says with a warm smile. For her, keeping this art alive is more important than money.

Many teenagers have hobbies. But sometimes these can get in the way of their schoolwork, and parents might worry about their success at school. Teenagers often think they should be allowed to practice their hobbies as much as they want.
Do you agree? Liu Yu, a fifteen-year-old boy from Shandong, is a running star. He is on his school team and has always wanted to be a professional runner when he grows up. However, his parents won’t allow him to train so much. “Of course we want to see him achieve his dreams,” says Mr. Liu. “And we know how much he loves running. My wife and I have supported every one of his races. We have nothing against running! But we think our son needs to think about other possible jobs. He’s getting older now, so he needs to think about what will happen if he doesn’t end up as a professional runner.” Liu Yu doesn’t really agree. “Well, I think I should be allowed to decide for myself,” he says. “My parents have always taught me how important it is to work hard at school and enter university. I understand this, but I’m serious about running. It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.”
His parents believe that Liu Yu should study hard in the evenings so they don’t allow him to practice running at night. “Maybe he thinks it’s too strict or unfair,” says Mrs. Liu. “But we think we’re doing the right thing. He needs to spend more time on his homework because it is difficult to become a professional sports star.” But Liu Yu still disagrees. “I know my parents care about me. They always talk about what will happen if I don’t succeed. But I will! I’m a quick runner! I think I should be allowed to make this choice myself. Only then will I have a chance to achieve my dream.”

31 What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
B Only believe the information from the first source you find.
C. Act like a detective and get information from various places.
D. Ask the algorithms to show you more different content.
第二节 阅读表达(共5题,每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
