Do you notice wildflowers like dandelions (蒲公英) on the side of the road? A new study found that these flowers in cities can attract (吸引) just as many different kinds of insects as those in fields in the countryside.
Scientists from a university in Poland found that even a small land of grass with wildflowers can attract a lot of insects. Those insects, like bees, beetles and butterflies, move seeds (种子) from one flower to another. They watched 10 places with wildflowers in a city and a big field in the countryside. They also studied 162 kinds of insects from June to August. The study showed the kinds of insects in the city were the same as those in the countryside. Even though there were more butterflies in the countryside, the number of bees and other insects was the same in both places. The scientists said this showed that cities could be just as good for insects as country fields.
Wildflower fields give many different animals a place to eat, rest, and make homes. So now more and more city governments are planting wildflowers in cities by putting seeds on grassland, near parks, and in other green spaces.
More city governments are also joining gardeners in “No Mow May”, an activity to help many different plants and animals have a place to live. The study from Poland said, “By planting flower fields, we can quickly make pretty places that people in the city like to visit.”

On the afternoon of July 27th, Beijing time, in the 10-meter air rifle (气步枪) mixed team final at the Paris Olympics in France, Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao won the first place. This marked the first gold medal of the Paris Olympics and the first for the Chinese sports delegation (代表团) at the Paris Olympics in France.
What stands out is the “relaxed demeanor” (松弛感) showed by these two post-2000s athletes. Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao did their best performance during the competitions and kept an air of calmness after their victory. Different from most gold medal winners’ tears of joy and excitement, the two young athletes stayed very calm on the world’s most shining stage. Not affected by the great pressure of the Olympics, they focused on their competitions, meeting challenges with a calm mind.
The “relaxed demeanor”, or “sense of ease”, is a state of mind that is neither arrogant (骄傲的) nor anxious. It reflects a person’s ability to deal with stress, and it comes from emotional stability (稳定性) and strong self-control.
However, “relaxed demeanor” is not about being passive or against hard work. There is no doubt that those who want to get success need to work hard. The wisdom of “relaxed demeanor” calls for a calm way and a peaceful mind to face life’s challenges and changes. In today’s society, many may fall into stress and anxiety, and“relaxed demeanor” becomes a luxury (奢侈品). A. Because they won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics in France
B. Because they won gold medals although they were under much pressure.
C. Because they face challenges bravely and work hard to get success.
D Because they performed well and kept calm during and after the competition.
19. What might the author suggest people do in a stressful situation?
A. Give up the goal to avoid pressure.
B. Work harder without any rest.
C. Face challenges with a calm mind.
D. Ignore difficulties and do nothing.
20. Which of the following sentences is NOT a description of a person who has a sense of ease?
A. He or she faces the challenges bravely and keeps calm.
B. He or she can deal with the stress and pressure of life with a peaceful mind.
C. He or she doesn’t fall into stress easily and can control themselves well.
D. He or she thinks there is no need to work hard for a better life and future.
21. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A The ways to deal with anxiety and stress and have strong self-control.
B. The “relaxed demeanor” showed by two young athletes and its importance in life.
C. The importance of facing challenges and changes bravely in life.
D. The great pressure of the Olympics and the hard work it takes to win gold medals.

①As the Mid-Autumn Festival came on October 6th, 2025, Suzhou was full of special celebrations that mixed old traditions with new ideas.
②The city’s most eye-catching place was surely the 3-meter-tall moon display at the Lingering Garden. It was called “Poems Written to the Moon,” and visitors took photos under the poems hung from sweet-scented osmanthus trees (桂花树).
③At Suzhou Museum, the“Moon Over the River” festival brought old customs to life. Families made mooncakes with traditional tools, while children tried making bamboo lanterns and jade rabbit books. The museum’s courtyard was filled with folk music, including the famous Jiangnan folk song Moon Cake sung in the local Suzhou dialect.
④High-tech fun was waiting at Suzhou Amusement Park. There, visitors enjoyed “Shan Hai Jing” themed lantern shows. Students in Hanfu joined free lantern parades, and everyone felt surprised at the AR lanterns. These lanterns lit up the night sky. Near Jinji Lake, the “AR Starry Sky” activity let people “touch” virtual stars while walking along the lakeside. It created magical moments for both kids and adults.
⑤Eco-friendly celebrations were everywhere too. Following new national rules, local bakeries used mooncake boxes that are easy to break down naturally. These boxes had only three layers. This showed how traditions can help protect the environment.

With the theme “On Lion Mountain Infinite Visions”, 1,000 drones acted as “brushes in the sky”. First, they formed the words “I Love You China” and a national flag, making everyone feel proud. Then, dynamic (动态的) patterns (图案) like basketballs and runners appeared, showing the square’s lively sports spirit.
The most popular part was the Suzhou-style designs. The drones turned into garden windows and water town bridges, showing the beauty of southern Chinese culture. There was also a cute mascot (吉祥物) called “Hoo Lion” and a round moon with a jade rabbit, bringing warm feelings of reunion.
The crowd watched with great excitement. Each time the patterns changed into new ones, cheers filled the air. Many visitors took photos and videos to remember this wonderful night. The drone show mixed modern technology and traditional culture perfectly, helping everyone feel both national pride and local charm. It was not just a show—it was an unforgettable experience full of light, art, and emotion.

The person who has helped me grow
The person who has helped me grow is my English teacher, Ms. Li. With her warm smile and endless patience, she creates a supportive classroom where everyone feels valued.
Last term, I felt nervous about giving a speech in front of the class. Ms. Li noticed my worry and spent extra time practicing with me after class. She taught me to take deep breaths and speak slowly. Finally, I did well and gained confidence. Surprisingly, I won second prize!
