A. Mike sends and receives emails every day. B. Linda always sells clothes on the Internet. C. Many people love Mrs. Brown’s blogs. D. Mr. Green plays computer games every day. B For the past year, I’ve spent many hours and many Tuesdays volunteering at a wonderful zoo. I worked in the kitchen, helping to prepare food for the animals. This zoo is part of the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Many animals here are part of a special program. The goal of this program is to protect animal species (物种) that are at risk or in danger of disappearing. The zoo has breeding (繁殖) plans to help these animals survive. I quickly learned that it’s easy to love all the animals. I especially liked one animal right away—the zoo’s prehensile-tailed porcupine (卷尾豪猪) named Fin. You might have seen YouTube videos of these animals eating and making cute noises. I learned that Fin really loves bananas and likes to peel them himself. One of my favorite things about Fin is his little nose, which looks like a pig’s nose. I also learned that nothing gets done without teamwork from the animal keepers. Taking care of all the zoo animals requires a lot of work. The keepers know a lot about every animal in the zoo. They work very hard, day and night, to keep the animals safe and healthy. Even in winter, the keepers stay at the zoo to make sure all the animals are happy and fed. Zoos are important. They teach visitors why we need to protect these animals and their homes. Most zoos care deeply for their animals and work very hard to keep them happy and healthy. 24. What do we know about the AZA program? A. It feeds animals with natural foods. B. It searches for uncommon animals. C. It saves species from dying out. D. It provides wild areas for animals. 25. What is one of the author’s favorite things about Fin? A. Fin’s love for bananas. B. Fin’s nose similar to a pig’s. C. Fin’s appearance in YouTube videos. D. Fin’s cute eating noises. 26. What does the author imply about zookeepers? A. They have medical backgrounds. B. They train animals for exercises. C. They become animals’ friends. D. They value animals’ emotions. 27. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Zoos are not animal cages. B. Zoos should be free to all. C. Zoos are not as good as nature. D. Zoos should be under control. C Do you move at every opportunity, or are you more of a sofa potato? Many of us sit for long at work or enjoy a good Netflix film in our downtime (闲暇时光). But, this all means that we don’t move as much as we should for health. A new study published in Jama International Medicine confirms that the more you walk, the lower your risk of cancer and other conditions. Quality is important, too. The higher the intensity (强度) of steps, the better the overall benefits of the exercise. There is a warning, however. The advantages of walking seem to level out once you’ve done around 10,000 steps. So should we be aiming to walk this amount every day? The general view is that keeping your step count up is ultimately better for your body. The same study found that the people who take 10,000 steps have a lower risk of cancer than those who take 8,000. But our bodies are not perfect machines, and we have the complexities of genetics (遗传学) and other lifestyle factors to contend with (应对). Additionally, it’s not as simple as that your health drops with step less than 10,000, or over that number, your health keeps increasing. And step counts above 10,000 have a similar risk and health benefit as hitting it, so you don’t have to push yourself to do much more than that. A similar study found that our risk of dementia (痴呆) also decreases with the more steps we take every day. The people who took 3,800 steps had roughly half the reduced risk for dementia as people who took 9,800 steps. For those who are too comfortable on the couch, even the lower number would be an excellent step count to aim for as a start. So make sure you get up and take movement breaks during your day—even if it’s walking to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. It’s not just the routine 30 minutes of scheduled exercise that keeps us healthy. As science has shown, it’s every step that counts. 28. What can be inferred from the passage about people who are “sofa potatoes”? A. They are at a risk of health problems. B. They cannot benefit from walking. C. They are more likely to watch Netflix. D. They aim for at least 10,000 steps every day. 29. How do people usually find the relationship between step count and health benefits? A. The less you walk, the lower risk of cancer. B. The more steps taken, the better for health. C. A lot of factors play a role in step for health. D. Only scheduled steps count for health benefit. 30. What does the example of the risk of dementia in paragraph 4 show? A. Taking 9,800 steps can completely prevent dementia. B. Even a relatively small increase in step count can be beneficial. C. People who take 3,800 steps have no risk of dementia. D. The risk of dementia is only related to the number of steps. 31. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. The Magic Number: 10,000 Steps B. Steps: More Than Just a Form of Exercise C. couch Potatoes vs. Fitness Enthusiasts D. The Link Between Steps and Health: Inseparable D When you’re bored, what do you do? The answer is a no-brainer (不假思索的选择): you reach for your phone. Five minutes of doggy pictures can seem like the perfect break. But a new unpublished study has bad news. Reaching for your phone is likely to leave you feeling more bored. To figure out the relationship between phones and boredom, the research team set up an app on the phones of 83 volunteers to keep an eye on how often they used their devices. They also asked these volunteers to keep detailed diaries at work, recording their level of tiredness and boredom. The researchers’ first discovery was no shocker (不足为奇). We’re on our phones a lot. Phone breaks were very frequent: in the 20 minutes following each questionnaire volunteers picked up their phone 52 percent of the time, spending an average of around 90 seconds on it each time. Equally unsurprising was the second finding: the more tired we are, the more likely we are to reach for our phones. The real kicker was the final finding. While we look to our phones to relieve our tiredness and boredom, screen time actually seemed to increase feelings of boredom. The research team thought about the different reasons why this might be so. Shifting from work to your phone and back again may end up being more tiring in mind than it is stimulating (提神的). In other words, that baby goat video was nice, but not worth the cost to your brain in effort and concentration. Besides, picking up your phone might just serve as a reminder of all the fun and interesting things out there you could be doing if you didn’t have to fill out paperwork. This one small study can’t clearly say if either of these explanations is right, but the basic takeaway (要点) is pretty clear: A quick look at your phone is going to make your brain feel even more tried. If so, what to do instead? 32. Why did the research team set up an app on the volunteers’ phones? A. To ensure their rest time. B. To remove their boredom. C. To track (追踪) their phone usage. D. To record their tiredness. 33. What do the underlined words “the real kicker” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. The most unexpected. B. The most advanced. C. The most frequent. D. The most relieving. 34. The baby goat video is mentioned in paragraph 4 to show . A. phones can be tiring B. phones can be inspiring C. phones can function as a reminder D. phones can benefit our paperwork 35. What might the author continue talking about? A. Why screen time is harmful. B. How to take a better break. C. Recommended online activities. D. Studies on phone addiction. 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 With the approach of summer vacation, if you ever had a thought that biking might be for you, July might be the perfect month to try it out. Regular biking (定期骑自行车) is beneficial to your mental and physical health. 36 So here are some tips that can guide the new cyclists along. Prepare essential necessities (生活必需品). You don’t need a ton of equipment to get started. Once you’ve got your bike and helmet, consider how to carry all your belongings. That could be a simple backpack, but it could also be a basket on your bike. 37 In the summer, athletic shorts and a T-shirt are often good choices. 38 Don’t try biking somewhere for the first time when you’re in a hurry or have an important meeting. Bike somewhere closer and low-risk, like a quick run to the store or to a friend’s backyard. Work your way up to more farther destinations. Adopt a relaxed mindset (心态) and seek help. It’s admitted that mentality, of taking it easy, can be extended to the route itself. Try out different routes to find the one you’re most comfortable with. Visit a bike shop to get maps of your city’s bike paths. Ask friends who bikes for suggestions or to ride with you. 39 Use a bike lane (自行车道) if possible. The League of American Bicyclists says bikers should try to give cars 3 feet of space. But cyclists shouldn’t ride in the gutter (排水沟) to keep their distance. 40 Don’t make drivers try to squeeze (挤压) past you. It’s about maintaining a balance for safety, and that’s not always easy. A. Start with a short ride. B. Start with a familiar destination (熟悉的目的地). C. If the road is too narrow, ride in the middle of the lane. D. Drivers also play a huge role in keeping a safe distance. E. Beyond these main items, it’s also key to think about clothes. F. Believe it or not, people often are glad to share their knowledge. G. But like any new habit, starting to ride a bike regularly is easier said than done. A dragon boat race will be held in our city tomorrow. A. They are at a risk of health problems. 根据第一段Do you move at every opportunity, or are you more of a sofa potato? Many of us sit for long at work or enjoy a good Netflix film in our downtime. But, this all means that we don’t move as much as we should for health. A new study published in Jama International Medicine confirms that the more you walk, the lower your risk of cancer and other conditions. Quality is important, too. B. How to take a better break. 根据最后一段This one small study can’t clearly say if either of these explanations is right, but the basic takeaway is pretty clear: A quick look at your phone is going to make your brain feel even more tried.
