A science report. C. A book review column. D. A travel guide. B A friendship spanning over 20 years has culminated (达到顶点) in an epic journey for two senior women. Ellie Hamby, 84, from Abilene, Texas, and Dr. Sandy Hazelip, 84, from Eastland, Texas, have proven that adventure knows no age limit. They shared their intention to travel the world together in a TikTok video—and, more importantly, how they made it happen. Hamby and Hazelip’s travels have taken them nearly everywhere. “We’ve been to all seven continents, most of the world’s wonders and to almost 50 countries,” Hamby said. “The best highlights aren’t just about the places. but it’s about the people we met along the journey.” And their journeys have not been without moments of excitement, including a trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway and a trip to the Middle East in 2011 where they “found ourselves in the Syrian desert when the war started.” Their most-recent senior travel adventure, the around-the-world-in-80-days trip, was done in 80 consecutive days. Hamby and Hazelip said they had no idea their travels would turn them into social-media sensations, but they now get recognized in airports after a TikTok video received over 6 million views. “Never in our wildest dreams did we think something like this would ever happen to us,” the friends said. Now that Hamby and Hazelip have realized the joy and inspiration they have provided to others, they are dedicated to sharing their message of friendship and adventure. For those who may feel it is too late to live out their dreams, Hamby and Hazelip made a good model. The friends even penned a new book, Here We Go—Lessons for Living Fearlessly From Two Traveling Nanas, serving as a road map to living fully, no matter what your age. “We realized the world needed to hear our message of friendship,” Hazelip said. “Living fearlessly and fully, loving those who cross our paths and opening our hearts to this big, wonderful world.” 4. What do Hamby and Hazelip think is the best part of their travels? A. Meeting people during the journey B. Seeing most of the world’s wonders C. Visiting all seven continents D. Traveling to nearly 50 countries 5. When did Hamby and Hazelip encounter the war during their travels? A. On the Trans-Siberian Railway trip B. During their around-the-world-in-80-days trip C. When they traveled to their 50th country D. In 2011 during their visit to the Middle East 6. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Their trip to the Syrian desert B. Becoming social-media sensations C. Writing a book about their travels D. Traveling around the world in 80 days 7. We can infer from the passage that Hamby and Hazelip’s book aims to ________. A. record their adventures in 50 countries B. introduce the best travel routes across continents C. encourage people to pursue dreams at any age D. share skills of making friends during travels C When did you last write a letter? Properly write one-by hand? In a digital world, where sending a text or email is far more convenient than using snail mail, is the writing on the wall for traditional pen and paper? Well, some people claim that writing still has many benefits, so maybe it’s not time to ditch your ballpoint or fountain pen yet. These days, when people request things in writing, a typed, electronic document will be accepted. Doing this on a computer means it could be saved, edited, duplicated and sent via email. But crafting a handwritten document is unique: It requires planning and thought, and, as well as practising your handwriting, it helps you to remember spelling and punctuation. Some experts believe your brain benefits from using old-fashioned pen and paper. This is particularly relevant for students, where typing notes into a laptop is thought to lack the ‘tactile (触觉的) feedback’ to the brain that contact between pen and paper does. BBC Worklife website quotes Hetty Roessingh from the University of Calgary, who says that “taking notes by hand involves cognitive engagement in summarising, paraphrasing, organising, concept and vocabulary mapping.” Others agree that handwriting may boost fine motor skills in your hands and fingers. There are everyday benefits to using pen and paper too. Scribbling notes shopping lists or messages on the back of an envelope can still be useful, quick and portable. But putting pen to paper in a letter to a friend or loved one can probably have the most impact. Pen pal writer Katherine Moller told the BBC: “In a world where it is so easy to hop online to email or to send a fast text, it is so personal and so precious to know someone chose to turn off the virtual world to spend some time with you.” So, while digital skills remain important, don’t write off your pens and pencils yet especially if your smart phone, tablet or laptop runs out of power! 8. How does the author introduce the topic of handwriting in the first paragraph? A. By predicting the eventual disappearance of traditional writing tools. B. By questioning its place in the digital world while hinting at its value. C. By comparing the costs of digital versus traditional communication. D. By stating clear evidence of its cognitive benefits for students. 9. According to the passage, how does handwriting potentially benefit students? A. It provides tactile feedback that enhances learning. B. It allows them to edit their work more conveniently. C. It helps them develop advanced programming skills. D. It makes their notes easier to distribute electronically. 10. What does the example of a handwritten letter to a friend illustrate? A. The high cost of postal services compared to emails. B. The declining popularity of personal communication. C. The superior speed of traditional mail over text messages. D. The unique and meaningful effort behind handwriting. 11. What does the author mean by “don’t write off your pens and pencils”? A. Pens and pencils are more reliable than all electronic devices. B. Handwriting skills are mandatory for all future careers. C. Digital tools will completely replace writing soon. D. Handwriting still holds relevant value in the digital age. D Repeated exposure to heatwaves, which are growing more frequent due to climate change, may accelerate ageing, particularly among manual workers, a new study warns. Although previous research showed heatwaves had negative effects on the health of older people, it primarily focused on short-term exposure to sustained heat. The new study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, assessed the potential long-term impact of heatwaves on health and ageing. Researchers analysed data from 24,922 adult people in Taiwan with an average biological age of 46 years to assess how heatwaves influenced ageing. They defined rapid ageing as the difference between biological and actual age and assessed its association with heatwave exposure. Biological age is a measure of how well the human body functions at the molecular and organ levels compared to its chronological (按时间计算的) age based on the birthdate. People with a greater biological age than their chronological age are at a higher risk for disease and mortality. By analysing patient data from 2008 to 2022, the researchers found an increase in cumulative heatwave exposure was associated with a rise in age acceleration. Though the participants appeared to adapt to heatwave conditions over the 15-year period, the harmful health effects did not disappear. Manual workers, rural residents and people in communities with fewer air conditioning units were more susceptible to the impacts of heatwaves on ageing, the study found. The findings suggest people living in places that experience more days of high heat show greater biological ageing on average than those in cooler regions. “Here we analysed data from 24.922 adults in a longitudinal cohort in Taiwan and used linear mixed models to show heatwaves accelerate ageing,” the researchers said. The new study calls for policies to reduce environmental inequalities and improve heatwave resilience, especially among vulnerable (脆弱的) groups. It also underscores the need for targeted protected protection and efficient healthcare resource allocation. The researchers call for more studies involving more diverse groups and assessing other important factors. They caution that a combination of hot conditions like during heatwaves and high humidity poses a particular risk for older adults as human beings gradually lose the ability to regulate their body temperature through sweating. 12. How did researchers define and measure rapid ageing? A. By comparing health before and after heatwave exposure B. By counting years in heatwave-prone areas C. By analyzing biological and chronological age difference D. By measuring molecular and organ-level bodily functions 13. What can be inferred about participants’ adaptation? A. Despite physical adaptation, heatwaves’ health damage persists B. Long-term heatwave exposure makes people heat-immune C. Heatwave frequency and intensity dropped sharply in 15 years D. Adaptability makes manual workers no more vulnerable 14. The call for targeted protection at the end of the text is most likely based on the inference that ________. A. heatwaves have the same ageing effect on every individual regardless of their circumstances B. a one-size-fits-all approach would be ineffective in addressing the disproportionate risks C. the ageing acceleration caused by heatwaves will inevitably lead to immediate diseases D. the healthcare resources are currently allocated in the most efficient way possible 15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. Climate Change: A Global Health Threat B. Heatwaves: Protect the Elderly C. Repeated Heatwave Exposure May Accelerate Ageing D. Biological vs. Chronological Age: Which Matters More? Tips for Living with People from Different Cultures While studying abroad, you may share an apartment with people from other cultures. ____16____ This is a situation which will take some time to adjust to. To teach them a lesson, one moonless night, he instructed his guard to place a huge, rough stone directly in the center of the main road leading to the bustling marketplace. At dawn, he hid himself behind a large oak tree nearby, waiting to witness the reactions of his people. The first to arrive was a wealthy merchant with a cart loaded with silk. “What incompetence! How can this be allowed?” he shouted, shaking his fist. Yet, after a quick glance, he unwillingly steered his cart around the obstacle, complaining under his breath. Next came a group of royal guards, returning from their patrol. “This is a public hazard!” their captain declared. But they, too, simply sidestepped the stone and continued marching. As the sun rose higher, a steady stream of people-farmers with produce, vendors with wares, and even high-ranking officials in their carriages — encountered the stone. A chorus of complaints filled the air, with everyone blaming the lazy townsfolk or the king’s administration, yet no one even considered moving it. King Thomas’s heart grew heavy with disappointment. He was about to abandon his experiment when he saw a humble farmer named Jack approaching. Jack, carrying a heavy basket of fresh vegetables to the market, paused when he saw the stone blocking his path. Jack set his basket down and examined the large stone. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As the farmer stood there, astonished, King Thomas emerged from his hiding spot. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 陇西一中2026届高三第三次月考试卷 英语 第一部 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段中的“When did you last write a letter? Properly write one-by hand? In a digital world, where sending a text or email is far more convenient than using snail mail, is the writing on the wall for traditional pen and paper? Well, some people claim that writing still has many benefits, so maybe it’s not time to ditch your ballpoint or fountain pen yet. (你上次写信是什么时候?真正亲手写一封?在数字世界里,发送短信或电子邮件远比平邮方便,传统的笔和纸是不是注定要被淘汰了?不过,有些人认为书写仍然有很多好处,所以也许现在还不是扔掉圆珠笔或钢笔的时候。)”可知,作者先质疑手写在数字时代的地位,又暗示其仍有价值,以此引入手写这一主题。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“This is particularly relevant for students, where typing notes into a laptop is thought to lack the ‘tactile (触觉的) feedback’ to the brain that contact between pen and paper does. (这对学生来说尤为重要,因为在笔记本电脑上打字做笔记被认为缺乏笔和纸接触时给大脑带来的‘触觉反馈’。)”可知,手写能为学生提供增强学习效果的触觉反馈。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“But putting pen to paper in a letter to a friend or loved one can probably have the most impact. Pen pal writer Katherine Moller told the BBC: “In a world where it is so easy to hop online to email or to send a fast text, it is so personal and so precious to know someone chose to turn off the virtual world to spend some time with you.” (但给朋友或爱人手写一封信可能带来最大的影响。笔友作家凯瑟琳・莫勒告诉英国广播公司:“在这个轻易就能上网发邮件或快速发短信的世界里,知道有人选择关掉虚拟世界,花时间为你手写一封信,是如此私人且珍贵的事。”)”可知,给朋友手写书信的例子体现了手写背后独特且富有意义的用心。故选D项。 【11题详解】 词句猜测题。根据全文内容(手写有认知、日常交流等多方面益处)及最后一段“So, while digital skills remain important, don’t write off your pens and pencils yet especially if your smart phone, tablet or laptop runs out of power! (因此,虽然数字技能仍然很重要,但暂时不要放弃你的钢笔和铅笔 —— 尤其是当你的智能手机、平板电脑或笔记本电脑没电的时候!)”可知,“don’t write off your pens and pencils”指手写在数字时代仍有相应的价值。故选D项。 D Repeated exposure to heatwaves, which are growing more frequent due to climate change, may accelerate ageing, particularly among manual workers, a new study warns. C 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段中的“They defined rapid ageing as the difference between biological and actual age and assessed its association with heatwave exposure. Biological age is a measure of how well the human body functions at the molecular and organ levels compared to its chronological age based on the birthdate.(他们将快速衰老定义为生物年龄与实际年龄之间的差异,并评估了这一差异与热浪暴露之间的关联。生物年龄是衡量人体在分子和器官层面的功能状况,对比基于出生日期的按时间计算的实际年龄的指标)”可知,研究人员通过分析生物年龄和实际年龄的差异来定义和衡量快速衰老。故选C项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Though the participants appeared to adapt to heatwave conditions over the 15-year period, the harmful health effects did not disappear.(尽管参与者在15年的时间里似乎适应了热浪环境,但对健康的有害影响并未消失)”可知,尽管参与者身体上适应了热浪环境,但热浪带来的健康损害依然存在。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“Manual workers, rural residents and people in communities with fewer air conditioning units were more susceptible to the impacts of heatwaves on ageing, the study found.(研究发现,体力劳动者、农村居民以及空调设备较少的社区居民更容易受到热浪对衰老的影响)”以及第四段“The new study calls for policies to reduce environmental inequalities and improve heatwave resilience, especially among vulnerable groups. It also underscores the need for targeted protected protection and efficient healthcare resource allocation.(这项新研究呼吁制定政策,减少环境不平等,提高应对热浪的适应能力,尤其是针对弱势群体。它还强调了有针对性的保护措施和高效医疗资源配置的必要性)”可知,不同人群受热浪影响程度不同,一刀切的方式无法解决这种不均衡的风险,因此需要针对性保护。故选B项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Repeated exposure to heatwaves, which are growing more frequent due to climate change, may accelerate ageing, particularly among manual workers, a new study warns.(一项新的研究警告称,由于气候变化,热浪出现得越来越频繁,反复暴露于热浪中可能会加速衰老,尤其是体力劳动者)”以及全文围绕该研究结论展开的分析可知,文章主要介绍研究发现反复暴露于热浪中会加速人体衰老,尤其对体力劳动者等弱势群体影响显著。 Tips for Living with People from Different Cultures While studying abroad, you may share an apartment with people from other cultures. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 Jack set his basket down and examined the large stone. Instead of complaining, he rolled up his sleeves, positioned his hands firmly against its rough surface, and pushed with all his might. Sweat beaded on his forehead, and his muscles strained. After several strenuous efforts, the stone finally budged, rolling heavily to the side of the road. As the dust settled, Jack noticed a small, worn leather pouch lying in the spot where the stone had been. Curious, he picked it up and opened it, finding it filled with gleaming gold coins and a small, neatly folded piece of paper. As the farmer stood there, astonished, King Thomas emerged from his hiding spot. A warm and approving smile spread across the king’s face. “My good man,” the king began, his voice filled with respect, “this reward is rightly yours. While everyone else merely voiced their displeasure, you alone took the initiative to solve the problem.” “Remember,” he continued, placing a hand on Jack’s shoulder, “a single act of responsibility outweighs a thousand words of complaint. You have truly learned the lesson I intended to teach all my people.” 3. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 放置:position/place/lay ② 挪动:budge/move ③ 表达:voice/express 情绪类 ① 不悦:displeasure/annoyance ② 赞许的:approving/praising 【点睛】【高分句型1】 As the dust settled, Jack noticed a small, worn leather pouch lying in the spot where the stone had been. 2】 Curious, he picked it up and opened it, finding it filled with gleaming gold coins and a small, neatly folded piece of paper.(运用了形容词作状语和现在分词作状语) 【高分句型3】 You have truly learned the lesson I intended to teach all my people.(运用了省略关系代词which/that的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
