Passage 1[2025河北]
We may have an interview for our volunteer work. And the
following suggestions will help make the interview a success.
We should do some research on the volunteer work. We can call the
organization or visit its website to find out some information about it. It's
also important for us to think about what questions the interviewers may
ask. It will help us to keep the interview going smoothly.
16
When leaving for the interview, we must remember to take
everything we need. And we're supposed to be at the interview about 30
minutes early. It allows us to get ready for the interview.
Before we go into the interview room, we can take a deep breath to
relax ourselves. When we hear someone ask us to go inside, we can
enter the room. We should greet the interviewers with a smile and stand
until they ask us to sit down.
In answering questions, we had better be confident to show our
talent and skills. It's important to look into the interviewers' eyes even if
we are very nervous and shy. If we can't understand the interviewers'
questions, it's OK to ask the interviewers to explain them further.
Before the interview is over, the interviewers usually invite us to ask
some questions. We can ask a question about the work or the interview.
For example, “What kind of training do you offer to volunteers?” We are
supposed to thank the interviewers before we leave.

Passage 2[2025江苏扬州]
Fashion trends(趋势) are around us, and can be exciting. A trend
used to happen in a 20-year cycle, but the latest development of the
Internet and clothing business has increasingly cut the length of the cycle
short. Now, it seems there comes a new fashion trend every couple of
months, but it still follows the same stages:
●A trend is usually first brought in during a big fashion show.
Reporters, writers, and some other important people collect what they
have learned in the show and predict a trend in the near future.
23
●Then the trend is talked about online and finally worn by famous
people to make it better accepted, which leads to the rise of the trend.
●Once the trend becomes popular, it will go to the public soon.
Large clothing companies and shops begin following the trend so that
everyone can get their hands on it. This is when the trend gets to the
highest point.
●After that, the trend usually falls and becomes out of date.
However, this is not always the end, as trends happen in broader cycles
and most get popular again.
Trends can be a great way to try something new and test your style.
A survey says some people enjoy following trends because they keep
fashion exciting and provide fresh ideas. However, others may not think
so, especially when a trend doesn't agree with how they feel about
themselves. Trends can be fun, but sometimes prove a waste of money
because many simply see trends as brands(品牌). So, should we follow
fashion trends?
Clearly, there's no right answer—whether to follow trends or not
depends on how they go with your values, spending, and sense of self. It
does not hurt to watch trend reports but never choose to follow them
unless you really think they fit with your personal style.#2.1

Passage 3[2025广西]
Have you ever wondered whether bamboo is a tree or a kind of
grass? It is a kind of grass in the science of plant. Bamboo is really a
wonder of nature. This fast-growing plant can be seen everywhere and is
widely used.
Bamboo has got many advantages, leading to its common uses for
thousands of years. Bamboo is often used to produce daily products, such
as chairs, beds and tables. What's more, bamboo can be made into a
kind of material for clothes. Bamboo can even be used as an excellent
building material because it grows fast and it is strong.
30
Bamboo is easy to decay(腐烂), so people have to add chemicals to
make bamboo-based materials(竹基材料) stay for a long time. But these
chemicals are bad for the environment. Chinese scientists have kept
improving technologies to deal with this disadvantage. Here is a good
example. In 2016, a Chinese research team in Nanjing began to work on
new bamboo technologies. Later, the team succeeded in developing a new
bamboo technology.
The new technology is a heat treatment. This treatment moves decay-
causing matters out of bamboo without adding chemicals that are harmful
to the environment. At the same time, the structure(结构) of bamboo is
well kept. As a result, new bamboo-based materials were produced and
chosen as an excellent building material to build the scenic platforms
(观景平台) of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge—the world's largest
sea-cross bridge. Since the new bamboo-based materials were used on the
platforms, they have stood sunlight, seawater and even the natural
disasters. Now, the scenic platforms still remain as strong as ever.#1.2.1

Passage 4[2025辽宁]
The new school year is coming. Who will be your new classmates?
Will you sit alone or in pairs? In fact, there are many different
classroom seating arrangements(排列). Let's take a look at some of them.
Traditional Seating
Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps
students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient
for students to have discussions in class.
38
Paired Seating
Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting
in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate with their
deskmates(同桌). However, some students can't focus on their lessons
because they may chat with their deskmates.
Group Seating
Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is
great for either large classes or small classrooms. It is good for group
discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When
students are doing group work, some of them may sit back
and leave others to find a way out.
39
U-Shape Seating
Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating
creates an open space in the middle. The teacher has enough
space to move around. However, it takes up more classroom space.
Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own
advantages and disadvantages.

Passage 5[2025黑龙江齐齐哈尔]
When I spent the summer with my grandmother, she sent me to the
store with a list. Behind the counter(柜台) was a lady, Miss White.
“Excuse me,” I said, she looked up. “I need to get these,” I
continued, holding my list.
“So? Go and get them,” Miss White pointed to a sign. “There is no
one here but you and me, and I'm not your servant, so get yourself a
basket over there.”
44
I went shopping twice a week that summer. Sometimes she
shortchanged(少找零) me. Other times she overcharged(多收钱). Going to
the store was like getting into a fight. But by the end of the summer, I
could finish the one-hour shopping trip in around 15 minutes. On the
morning when I was to return home, I stopped to buy some water.
“All right,” she said. “What did you learn this summer?” “That
you're mean(刻薄的)!” I replied.
Miss White just laughed. “I know what you think of me,” she said.
“Well, I don't care! I meet some children every day. My job is to teach
every child life lessons. When you get older, you'll be glad!” Glad I met
Miss White? Ha! Impossible!
Then one day my daughter came to me with homework trouble. “It's
too hard, Mum,” she said. “Could you finish my math problems for
me?”
“If I do it for you, how can you learn to do it yourself?” I said.

overcharged.#2.1

Passage 6[2025江苏苏州]
Every day, we hear sounds all around us—
some soft, some loud. But do you know that loud
sounds can harm your hearing?
Sounds are measured(测量) in decibels(分贝).
Look at the chart—some sounds are safe for our ears, but when a sound goes over 85 decibels, it can be harmful to our hearing. To reduce the risk of hearing loss, we shall pay attention to the loudness of the noise, the distance we are to it and how long we listen to it.
52
Noise levels can be measured by sound-level meters(噪声计), but
you probably don't always carry one with you. So how can you tell
whether noises are too loud or not? Ask yourself: Do you have to raise
your voice to be heard? Do you find it hard to hear someone about a
meter away from you? Do the noises make your ears hurt or ring for
some time? If your answer is YES to any of these, that probably means
the noises are too loud.
Headphones are especially tricky. Many people enjoy using them, but
they often listen to loud music for too long, or keep the volume(音量)
so high that even other people can hear the noise from their headphones.
These can lead to hearing loss.
Your hearing is a gift. You need it for learning, communicating, and
enjoying the world. Once your hearing is harmed, it may never come
back.#6

力。

When/If I have to raise my voice to be heard; When/If I find it
hard to hear someone about a meter away from me; When/If the
noises make my ears hurt or ring for some time.

Passage 7[2025安徽]
Deep in the woods lived a little squirrel(松鼠) called Nico.
One day, Nico saw some orange leaves falling off the trees.
“Fall is here!” Nico shouted excitedly. “It's time for Nut Hunt Day!”
All the little squirrels did exercises to get ready for the big day.
They practiced running, climbing, and jumping. Everyone wanted to win
the Nut Hunt(找坚果比赛).
When the game kicked off, the little squirrels in the starting circle
all ran in different directions.
58
Nico started the hunt well. He jumped around, looking for the nuts
under the orange leaves.
“Oh, I found one! My first nut!” Nico said happily and picked up
the nut. He continued the hunt, holding the nut in his little paw(爪子).
“Oh, another one!” Nico cheered. He picked up the nut with another
paw and moved on.
But when Nico tried to pick up the third nut, he faced a problem.
“How can I carry these three nuts with two paws to the starting
circle?” Nico thought. “Oh, I know!”
Nico put the nuts on top of one another and tried to carry them all
together. But the nut tower was too high, and he couldn't see the way!
Ouch! Nico fell and dropped all of the nuts!
“I might carry one nut in one paw and two nuts in another paw,”

Passage 8[2025重庆]
Dear friends,
Last month, we started the “Nature and Me” activity. What did you
see and do during your time with nature? And how did you feel? Please
share your stories.#1.1
8:15 p.m. 31 May
I disliked hiking in the past, but now I enjoy it. My father and I
had a hiking trip on MacLehose Trail in Hong Kong. The journey was harder than I expected. My legs started burning after just 30 minutes. But as we climbed higher, the amazing views—green hills, golden beaches, and endless ocean—seemed under my feet.

mountains seem small.” That's exactly how I felt. Every drop of sweat
counts!

Passage 9[2025北京海淀区三模]
Cinema, but Not as We Know It
A friend recently asked me if I'd like to go to the cinema. Being a
huge fan of the big screen, I said yes. I usually go to the cinema once
or twice a week, so it's normal for me to spend a lot of money on the
latest film. But when she told me the ticket cost £105, I was surprised.
What's more, she said I'd receive my personalised character by email.
Character?
70
Was I going to act in the film? I prefer watching films to
performing in them. And since when did it cost more than a hundred
pounds to go to the cinema? Still, my friend was really interested in it,
so I handed the money over.
Then I carried out some online research into what I was spending
my money on, I realised that I'd signed up for an immersive(沉浸式的)
cinema experience. This is a type of cinema where both actors and the
audience(观众) take part in a remake of a classic film. Before the
performance, you receive information about your character, and you need
to spend time getting to know the character. You also need to buy a
costume(戏服). You need to dress and act like your character in the
performance.
When I arrived, I was greatly surprised at how professional(专业的)
everything looked. The set, music, and lighting were all wonderful. I felt
like I was actually in the film, which, of course, is the whole point of
this experience. It was a remake of an old film, so everyone was dressed
in old-style clothes. I'd thought mine was pretty good, but when I saw
how much effort others had made, I felt uneasy. If you don't enjoy
dressing up, you'd better think twice about going. There was a mix of
professional actors who played the main characters and members of the
public, like me, who were given unimportant roles to play. The
professional actors were fantastic and really supportive. They offered lots
of encouragement to all of us.
Was it worth the ticket price? I'd say so, yes. Would I go again? Of
course, yes! But I probably need to go to a few acting classes first.#1.5

Passage 13[2025江苏扬州三模]
When you wake up at night with worries going through your head,
it can be hard for you to fall back to sleep. Knowing what to do can
help you when worries stop you from sleeping.
It can feel like you're the only person lying awake with thoughts
going around your head in the middle of the night, but it's usual.
Worrying at night feels uncomfortable, so it's important that you're kind
to yourself. Think about what will help you. That could be waking up an
adult to tell him or her about your worries.
93
By paying attention to your body instead of your thoughts, your
brain can calm down. One way to do this is to get comfortable in bed,
then focusing your attention on your feet. Next, move your attention up
to your lower legs, then to your body until you get to the top of your
head.
If you get to the top of your head and you still can't sleep, change
positions to make yourself comfortable again, and then slowly do the
same exercise, from head to feet. This exercise takes time and you have

Passage 14[2025河北石家庄四十三中三模]
How to Take Better Notes in Class
Taking good notes is one of the most important skills for students
because it helps them understand and remember lessons better. There are
several easy ways to take notes that can work for different subjects. Let's
look at four simple methods you can try.
The List Method
This is the simplest way to take notes. You write down the main
ideas from the lesson, then add smaller details(细节) under each one. For
example, if your teacher is talking about animals, you might write
98
“Mammals(哺乳动物)” as a main idea. Then, list “dogs, cats, humans” as
details. This method helps you see which ideas are most important and
how they connect.
The Two-Column(列) Method
Divide your paper into two parts. During class, write all the notes
on the right side. After class, go back and write key words or questions
about your notes on the left side. This makes you think about the
information again, which helps you remember it better. It's also called the
Cornell Method(康奈尔笔记法). Many students find this method very
helpful for tests.
99
The Drawing Method
Some students learn better when they see pictures or mind maps.
With this method, you draw circles or boxes for main ideas, then connect
them with lines to show how they relate(关联). For history lessons, you
might draw a timeline. For science, you could draw how plants grow.
This works well for subjects where things are connected.
The Table Method
When you need to compare things, this method works best. Make a
chart(表格) with boxes to organize information. For example, if you're
100
learning about different countries, you could make columns for
“population”, “language”, and “capital city”. This makes it easy to see
differences and similarities.
Remember, different methods work for different subjects. Try them
all to see which one helps you learn best!

Passage 16[2025湖南长沙雨花区雅境中学三模]
As a middle school student, I never thought artificial
intelligence(AI) could be part of my daily life. But now,
it's like a helpful friend that supports me.
Every morning, my smart speaker wakes me up with gentle music.
“Good morning!” it says. “The weather today is sunny. Don't forget your
P.E. clothes.” At first, I found it strange to talk to a machine. But now,
I ask it questions like, “What's the capital of Australia?” or “How do
you spell ‘environment'?” It answers quickly and clearly.
111
In English class, our teacher uses an AI-powered app called “Speak
Easy”. When I practice speaking, the app listens and corrects my
pronunciation. Once, I said “library” with a heavy accent(口音). The app
played the correct sound three times until I got it right. “Great job!” it
praised. I felt so proud.
Al also helps me with homework. Last week, I was stuck on a math
problem. Instead of asking my parents, I took a photo of the question
and sent it to an AI tutor(导师). It showed me step-by-step solutions and
even explained the mistakes I made. “Math isn't so scary anymore,” I
told my friend. However, my favorite AI tool is the reading app on my
tablet because it reads stories aloud with different voices—happy, sad, or
excited. When I read The Little Prince, the AI made the prince's voice
sound curious and dreamy. It felt like the character was right there with
me.
Of course, AI isn't perfect. Once, my smart speaker misunderstood
“turn on the light” and played a song. We all laughed! But these small
mistakes remind me that AI is still learning, just like us.
Now, I realize AI isn't something far away. It's a tool that makes
my life easier and more fun. As long as I use it wisely, it can help me
become better at learning and exploring the world. Maybe one day, I'll
even create my own AI helper!#2.5

and cream fills the air. Once it is made to perfection, the inside is soft
and the outside is crispy. A shiny and golden surface catches the eye.
This, as you may have guessed, is the delicious egg tart(蛋挞). It's

Few people know egg tarts better than Wong. After all, she created
this dessert together with her husband Stow. Some people say Margaret's
egg tarts are special, because they taste neither Western nor Chinese.

It all started when Wong and Stow opened their first cake house.
Someone asked Stow to make some cream cakes. The first plate of cakes
came out burnt and wrong, and Stow wanted to throw them away. But
Wong said, “Hold on a minute. They can still be eaten. Don't waste
food.” The couple let people try them for free. Unexpectedly, the
customers loved them. They have ordered more and more egg tarts from
then on. More than thirty years flies. The method of making Margaret's
egg tarts remains the same.
Whenever people talk about Macao, they mention egg tarts. Every
day, hundreds of tourists and locals line up at Wong's cafe. “Sometimes

Passage 5[2025广东东莞虎门外语学校三模]
Recently, dazi socializing has become a new favorite thing to do
among young people. It's a new way to connect with others. Unlike close
friends who need to keep in close contact, a dazi is a more temporary
(临时的) social partner.
The term “dazi” comes from the Shanghai dialect(方言). It referred
to “card-playing partners” at first. Later, the term developed a broader
meaning—partners who take part in certain activities together are
commonly called “dazi”. Nowadays, many young people on social media
152
platforms look for different types of partners, like travel dazi, study dazi
and fitness(健身) dazi.
Zhouzhou, a girl from Shenzhen, was born in the 2000s. For last
year's May Day holiday, she planned to travel but couldn't find an ideal
partner in her social circle. Finally, she chose a college student studying
in Changsha, Hunan Province, as a travel dazi for the trip.
Zhouzhou said she first told her travel dazi about a few scenic spots
that she wanted to visit, and then her travel dazi made a plan that met
her expectations. Although the conversation between the two was not very
deep, Zhouzhou said she felt that her travel dazi's personality was quite
similar to her own. The dazi planned the trip very carefully and they had
a great trip together. “Friends may be the people closest to you, but it's
better to find like-minded dazi to take part in some activities together,”
Zhouzhou said.
Dazi culture doesn't come without risks. Usually, a dazi may be
more suitable for activities in safe environments and for short periods of
time. Remember safety is always first when looking for a dazi.#1.3

In an old people's home in Shenzhen, an old lady shakes hands with
Xia Lan. It is a humanoid robot(仿人机器人) with bright eyes and a
warm voice. So what is a humanoid robot?
Humanoid robots are a kind of machine which looks like humans.
They have two arms, two legs, a body, and a head. They can not only
see, hear and interact(互动), but also walk, run and perform tasks like
humans. What's more, they are able to make decisions and learn. The

Passage 9[2025广东清远清城区三模]
In the past ten years, the use of social media has grown in a way
that no one could have guessed.
A main feature(特征) of social media is its volatility(易变).
Trends(潮流) come and go, disappearing almost as quickly as they appear.
So, what were the main social media trends of last year?
Short video apps, such as TikTok and Douyin, took the world by
storm. The Telegraph reported that TikTok was the 8th on Apple's App
Store in April. And Douyin had more than 300 million active users in
June in China, CNBC said.
177
The sense of community that users of short video apps get is
another main feature. Liza Koshy, a user of the US app Musically who
has over 2 million followers, said that she was very excited when anyone
said that her video had “encouraged” them. “It's really cool…because I
think as social creators that's what we all are,” she added.
Live streaming(直播) is a feature of our social media life that now
seems as natural as sunrise.
It's a pretty good idea—you can watch anyone, anywhere, live.
China has taken live streaming to a whole new level. More than 100
million Chinese people monthly watch a live streaming video. Forbes
thought that a number of reasons had led to the popularity of live stream.
One of the most important reasons is that people don't have to know
their real names.
Although we use social media all the time, that doesn't mean that
we understand the influence it is having on us. We should pay attention
to both the time we spend on it and its influence on our minds.#2
