三.阅读理解(共20小题,每小题2分,共40分)

When my daughter Sara was in the fifth grade, she was caught in a rather difficult social problem. One day, she came to me with tears in her eyes, crying out, “My friend Marcy hates me!” She explained, “Kathy was also my friend, but Marcy wanted me to be her only friend.” However, Sara wanted to have other friends as well. Then she said to me, “You should talk to Marcy and tell her that!”
I was quite shocked when hearing my daughter’s problem. After thinking about her situation for a while, an idea suddenly hit me. I quickly got two baskets from the living room. I told her, “At birth, each person is given a small basket. This small one here is yours, and the larger one belongs to me. As you grow up, your basket will grow bigger, too. You can see that your little basket is inside mine. That’s because when you were just born, there were so many things you couldn’t deal with on your own. I had to do everything for you that you couldn’t manage.”
Sara nodded, showing that she understood what I meant.
I continued, “As you grew and started to complete tasks independently, I began to place a few more things in your basket. For example, when you learned to tie your shoes, that skill went into your basket.”
She said softly with a sense of pride, “I can tie my own shoes.”
“Exactly. As you grow older, you’ll have to take on more and more tasks all by yourself.” While saying this, I slowly separated her basket from mine and placed it in her hands. “Finally, you will carry your own basket filled with things that only you can do.”
She looked up at me, her eyes bright with realization. “I understand. There are some things that I have to do for myself because they are in my basket.”
21.What was Sara’s problem in the fifth grade?
A.Her friend didn’t want her to have another friend.
B.She wanted to do all the things by herself.
C.She didn’t know how to tie her shoes.
D.Her mother was very strict with her.
22.How did the writer feel when she heard her daughter’s problem?

23.What did Sara realize at the end of the story?
A.Following parents’ advice helps solve problems.
B.Doing some things for herself is a part of growth.
C.Communicating properly helps make more friends.
D.Telling the truth is necessary for understanding each other.

Welcoming four-legged friends into the classroom is becoming popular across the country. And research shows that therapy-dog (治疗犬) programs provide significant (重要的) benefits for students. According to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, “Therapy dogs have been called ‘miracle workers’ because of their calming effect on students and teachers.”
There is an obvious difference between service dogs and therapy dogs. Service dogs help those with specific disabilities, such as problems with eyesight. Therapy dogs are trained to provide health and social-emotional benefits.
Tarah Randazzo is a middle school counselor (顾问) at Greenfield Middle School in Wisconsin. She has a yellow labrador (拉布拉多), Archie, a certified (认证的) therapy dog that she brings with her to school a couple of days each week. She says students love Archie days, and he brings so many positive benefits, like increased attendance, better problem-solving, and just overall (全面的) calmness to middle school life. “I’ve noticed that when students are really upset, just being near Archie makes a big difference.” Randazzo says.
Dogs in the classroom provide both physical and emotional health benefits for students. According to one study published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), having a dog present in the classroom promotes (提升) a positive mood and provides significant anti-stress effects on the body. In fact, the simple act of petting a dog has the effect of lowering blood pressure and heart rate. Pet therapy also lowers stress hormones (荷尔蒙). In other words, just being in contact with a therapy dog calms kids down when they’re upset. And reducing feelings of anxiety and depression (沮丧) enables them to focus on learning.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of therapy dogs in the classroom is the effect on students’ social-emotional development. Loving and lovable, dogs are friendly companions and good listeners who make no judgements. Children bond (建立亲密关系) easily with these gentle creatures, helping them feel more connected and confident. This helps reduce bad behavior and anger.
The positive effect of therapy dogs begins in life and extends into schools, helping students become more caring and understanding. Let’s support their presence in schools to create a better educational experience for everyone.
24.Why does the writer mention Archie in Paragraph 3?
A.To explain why therapy dogs can calm kids down.
B.To prove therapy dogs are better than service dogs.
C.To show the benefits therapy dogs bring to students.

B.Students who feel anxious about the grades.
C.Students who have problems with their eyesight.
D.Teachers who want their students to do better in studies.
26.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Therapy Dogs: Classroom Companions B.Therapy Dogs: Classroom Managers
C.Therapy Dogs: Learning Coaches D.Therapy Dogs: Lesson Planners

Almost every student has felt the pressure from a full schedule (日程表) and the need for meaningful moments. Emily is a hard-working student with a full schedule, and yet she often feels like something is missing. Similarly, Chris spends his evenings going to different sports clubs, but finds himself wondering if he’s truly enjoying his experience. These stories mirror a common paradox (悖论) among students today: although they are busier than ever, many feel unfulfilled.
This paradox can lead to various problems such as stress, worry, and even burnout. Studies show that having a continually full schedule can actually harm happiness. When students are focused only on completing tasks and meeting expectations, they may lose sight of the activities that truly bring them joy. This pressure can finally lead to tiredness and a loss of motivation.
One reason for this paradox is that students often feel pressure to stay busy to be “successful”. Parents, teachers, and even friends may highlight the importance of achievements at school and college preparation. As a result, students can feel like they need to fill every hour with productive activities to meet these expectations. However, this non-stop busyness can sometimes lead them away from what truly matters to them, such as hobbies or time with friends, which actually help to build a happy life.
To address this problem, students need to learn to balance their responsibilities with activities that bring enjoyment. Experts suggest that students discover the activities that match their own interests and values, rather than simply what looks good on a college application (申请). By managing their schedules to include both productive and relaxing activities, students can develop a healthier relationship with their time.
The key to solving this paradox lies in creating a school culture that values happiness as well as achievement. By encouraging students to pursue their passions and enjoy moments outside of schoolwork, parents, teachers, and peers can help reduce the pressure to continually be busy. Open conversations about managing stress and organizing meaningful activities can support students in developing a balanced, fulfilling school experience.
While balancing busy schedules and happiness is challenging, understanding this paradox can help students make mindful choices about how they spend their time. With deep thinking, planning, and support from their community, students can make room for both learning success and personal fulfillment, leading to a healthier, more rewarding school journey.
27.Why does the writer use the examples of Emily and Chris in Paragraph 1?
A.To start a debate. B.To lead in a topic.
C.To make a conclusion. D.To draw a comparison.
28.What do the words “pursue their passions” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A.Follow what they love. B.Solve their problems.
C.Fight for what they want. D.Study for a good future.
29.The writer probably agrees that ________.
A.a busy schedule is necessary for having success
B.addressing the paradox helps with college applications
C.enjoying meaningful moments supports students’ happiness
D.social activities are more important than learning achievement
30.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To encourage schools to design full schedules for students.
B.To highlight the need for students to be continually productive.
C.To show how after-school classes benefit students’ college applications.
D.To stress the importance of balancing busyness with personal fulfillment.
D
Artwork is lovely to look at, and it has the power to make people feel and think differently. But do you know that when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions (情绪)?
Scientists recently carried out a study at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, a city in the Netherlands. The museum is home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer. It was painted in 1665.
① The researchers used eye-tracking equipment and a brain scanner to watch how people reacted to several paintings. First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop.
② It was shown that their emotional reactions (反应) were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings. The most active part of the brain while looking at the artworks was the area that controls people’s personal identity (身份) and consciousness (意识).
③ How did that happen? By study, people may experience something called a “sustained attentional loop” when they watched a certain painting. The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a continuous loop. Each time they completed the cycle, their focus became stronger and their connection with Girl with a Pearl Earring was deeper, which meant that people stared at the painting for longer. Martin de Munnik, one of the researchers in this study, said, “That means you have to pay attention whether you want to or not.” It was as if the painting itself had a power to hold the viewers’ attention and guide their eye movement in a very involuntary (无意识的) way.
④ The director of the Mauritshuis, Martine Gosselink, said that the study shows how important it is to go and see art in real life, whether it’s paintings, photography or dancing. She added, “It really helps develop your brain.” The researchers are now eager to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do similar experiments on works like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.
31.What is the purpose of the study?
A.To explain different ways to study a painting.
B.To check people’s interest in museum paintings.
C.To find differences between a painting and its photo.
D.To watch people’s reactions to real art and its photos.
32.We can put the following sentence “The team also found that the group reacted even more strongly to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” in ______.
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
33.How does the writer introduce the “sustained attentional loop”?
A.By giving an example. B.By telling a story.
C.By listing numbers. D.By offering advice.
34.Why was Mona Lisa mentioned at the end of the passage?
A.To introduce a world-famous art work. B.To explain the plan for further research.
C.To show the researchers’love for it. D.To prove its influence on people’s brain.
35.What is the best title of the passage?
A.The Power of Real Works of Art B.Lessons from Real Works of Art
C.The Way to Enjoy Real Works of Art D.A Visit to Real Works of Art

Strength training, a type of exercise, is used to build strength, power, and endurance (耐力). Many adults do strength training, but is it safe and useful for children? People used to think that strength training was not useful and even dangerous for children, possibly causing injuries that could affect their growth. However, the latest study shows that strength training does improve children’s overall health.
When children do strength training, they get stronger as their muscles (肌肉) grow! The strength training can most likely make them better, faster and stronger. “It is so beneficial for their bodies, like their bones, joints and metabolic (新陈代谢的) health,” says Becca Rigg, a professional trainer at a fitness center. She knows all about the positive effects of strength training. She takes her kids to strength workouts two to three times per week.
“I also love the message teenagers receive when exercising this way: They may feel more confident when they finish such hard and tiring training. It is also rewarding for them to see results. They are, indeed, getting stronger while having a better image,” explains Rigg, “Sometimes they make strength training part of their life and it’s easier for them to get involved in the training later.”
How do kids get started? Just like other activities, it is very important to learn the correct way to do it. For strength training, it is a must to learn from an experienced coach because the coach can make sure children do movements safely and correctly. In the early stage, it is best for teens to simply use their body weight, such as doing push-ups and squats. Bodyweight movements can then be made more difficult by adding equipment or weights, for example, a barbell or dumbbells.
So, let’s cheer our kids on as they lift, pull, and push their way to a stronger future. With our support and care, they’ll grow up ready to take on whatever life throws at them.
51.What does the latest study show about strength training?
52.How often does Becca Rigg take her kids to strength workouts?
53.Why is it a must to learn from an experienced coach?
54.As a teenager, would you like to make strength training part of your life? Why? (Please give two reasons.)

D.To discuss if therapy dogs improve students’ learning.
25.According to the passage, who would benefit most from therapy dogs?

First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop.”
根据“The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a continuous loop.” 可知,作者以志愿者看《戴珍珠耳环的少女》时注意力移动顺序为例,介绍 “持续注意力循环”。故选A。
34.推理判断题。根据“The researchers are now eager to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do similar experiments on works like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.”可知,研究人员想拓宽研究,计划对《蒙娜丽莎》等作品做实验,提及它是为了解释进一步的研究计划。故选B。
35.最佳标题题。根据“when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions” ,后文围绕此论述人们对真迹和照片的不同反应,突出真实艺术品能带来更强烈情绪,强调了真实艺术品的力量,所以A选项“真实艺术品的力量”最能概括文章主旨。故选A。

A.Angry. B.Sad. C.Surprised. D.Disappointed.

D.To discuss if therapy dogs improve students’ learning.
25.According to the passage, who would benefit most from therapy dogs?
A.Counselors who train the therapy dogs.
